00:08The film is a biopic of Mark, a legend of mixed martial arts and the ultimate fighting championship.

00:22The film is a fairly classic biography and tells the story of Mark's rise to the ultimate fighting championship,

00:27despite, um, personal problems, a turbulent relationship with D, played by Emily Blant,

00:33and, um, a fragile emotionality, a very sensitive nature that clashes with the indestructible appearance of this mountain,

00:40precisely, this, Smashing Machine of the title.

00:50And Safdie's intention is precisely to represent, to tell the story of a person who embodies many contradictions.

00:57Paradoxically, The Smashing Machine is not a sports film in the classic sense of the term

01:08because it focuses mainly on Mark's difficulty in processing his emotions,

01:12his feelings and his way of being both in the world and in the ring.

01:20It must be said that perhaps we were expecting something more particular or more original from Safdie.

01:25The film is fairly standard in its structure, despite making use of very intense performances.

01:33First, of course, that of Day Johnson.

01:39Here she has a great dramatic role that has the scent of the season award

01:43and then obviously that of Emily Blant in the role of this somewhat kitsch woman
