00:00My walk home technique is like, ooooh.
00:04Everyone stays away.
00:06My go-to is pretend you're on your phone, turn the corner, and then run really fast.
00:12Oh, I like that.
00:13People think you're busy, and then they can't see you.
00:17See guys?
00:17See what we have to put up with?
00:22I'm your host, Phoebe Robinson.
00:23With me today is talented writer, actress, director, been nominated for Webby Awards,
00:29I'm talking about the one, the only, Anu Valiya!
00:35What up, girl?
00:36Hey!
00:38Thank you so much for being with me today.
00:40So, you guys know the deal.
00:42Each week, myself and a lovely co-host celebrate a famous guy for being super hot, smart AF,
00:48and affecting positive change in the world.
00:50Yeah.
00:50This guy is so dreamy and so wise, but when you talk to him, you're like, wait, are you
00:54sure you're not the after picture of the Yoda's before in extreme plastic surgery?
00:57He's that hot.
00:58He is that hot and that out.
01:00Why?
01:01Yeah.
01:01So who could this mystery man be?
01:04I mean, who is today's woke thing?
01:10It's Aziz Ansari!
01:13Treat yourself!
01:15You were super black on that.
01:16Good job!
01:18I was like a lady named Diane who works at Accounts Payable on that.
01:23Where's my rose?
01:24I'm going crazy.
01:25Don't talk to me until I have my coffee.
01:27He's a stand-up comedian who sells off Master Square Garden, like, all the time.
01:31He's co-creator of his hit Netflix show, Master of Men.
01:33He's a New York Times best-selling author.
01:36Self-playing foodie.
01:37And he's our woke bae of the week.
01:39Tell them what I knew.
01:40I'm glad you asked.
01:41What?
01:43I feel like you're auditioning for Kids Incorporated.
01:45You're like, talking about vegetables.
01:49You know, just like very, like, we love broccoli.
01:52Yeah!
01:52Tomatoes are fruit.
01:53Did you know that?
01:54It's like so...
01:57Moving on.
01:57Yeah.
01:58He wrote an amazing op-ed in the New York Times about acting race in Hollywood.
02:02In it, he talks about that movie Short Circuit 2.
02:04Remember that movie?
02:06Nobody does.
02:07But it has a white man in brown face playing an Indian character.
02:12White people!
02:13Stop with the brown and black face!
02:16Your white face gets you cabs!
02:18And jobs!
02:19And me!
02:20I mean, look at this girl!
02:22Head to toe!
02:24Number one stunner, yo!
02:25So quit making a mockery of our faces.
02:28And also, quit making it hard for people like Aziz, who have the resume to back it up to get
02:32good quality work.
02:33Aziz writes in the New York Times,
02:35Even though I've sold out Madison Square Garden as a stand-up comedian, and have appeared in several films and
02:40a TV series,
02:41when my phone rings, the roles I'm offered are often defined by ethnicity and often require accents.
02:47Oh, it's 2016. We have to do better.
02:50Not only is he talking about race, he's breaking down feminism for dum-dums who still don't get it.
02:57You're a feminist if you go to a Jay-Z and Beyoncé concert, and you're not like,
03:03I feel like Beyoncé should get 23% less money than Jay-Z.
03:07Also, I don't think Beyoncé should have the right to vote, and why is Beyoncé singing and dancing?
03:12Shouldn't she make Jay a stake?
03:14This man is covering all the bases, race and feminism.
03:18Okay, those are two bases, but those are big-ass bases.
03:21Yeah, so in honor of Aziz being our Woke Bey of the Week, Anu and I decide to pitch him
03:26like a cool spin-off show that he can make millions of dollars from, and it's called,
03:32Hey, we kind of know a lot about a bunch of things, so like, no bigs or whatever, but like,
03:38we're knowledgeable and stuff.
03:40It's a working title.
03:42Yeah, the title's not great, it needs to be workshopped, but the premise is stellar.
03:46Golden Globes, here we come.
03:47Emmys, EGOTs, Cody.
03:49Oh my God, I want to be an EGOT.
03:51Yeah, I would love to be an EGOT winner.
03:53Oh my God.
03:54This is Woke Bey starring two EGOT winners.
03:57Oh my God!
03:58And they're like, oh man, their careers fell off.
04:00They're doing like, YouTube now?
04:01You got an EGOT and then you're on YouTube.
04:05We love you, Aziz!
04:08That's Anu.
04:09I'm Phoebs.
04:10This has been Woke Bey.
04:11Thank you guys so much for tuning in.
04:13We'll see you next week where we talk about another hot dude.
04:16Bye!
