00:001,200 km of range, a hybrid drivetrain but still is here into all things Lotus.
00:05Let me tell you why.
00:08You can see that the car has a long wheelbase with the wheels pushed right out towards the corners.
00:13There are very short overhangs and overall a cab forward silhouette.
00:16This is the sports car approach that we give to all of our cars.
00:22So what is cab forward? Automotive designers will talk about this quite a lot.
00:25But what it actually means is that we take the windshield of the car and we push it forward.
00:28You can see here the touchdown is almost over the centre of the front wheel.
00:31Visually, this changes everything.
00:33The car looks planted, it looks purposeful, it looks dynamic.
00:37Physically there's also a great advantage.
00:39We start to move towards the perfect balance of 50-50 weight distribution
00:42which ultimately improves the dynamic and handling capability of the car.
00:48One of the things you'll notice about a Lotus is how sculptural our cars are.
00:52This is really informed by our unique approach to the integration of aerodynamics and design
00:56and it's born from our incredible legacy in racing.
01:01Most cars in this category are fighting the air.
01:03They simply push it out of the way.
01:04With Lotus we take a different approach.
01:06We allow the air to pass through the vehicle.
01:08This reduces the physical mass of the car.
01:11And this is a concept we call porosity.
01:14The Charlotte nose section physically divides the air.
01:17Part of it passing up over the top of the vehicle.
01:19The rest is channelled down into the cooling area here.
01:22We have an active grille shutter system that works with the intelligent systems on the car
01:26to close off with the effect of actually reducing drag.
01:30You'll also notice underneath the headlamp here a powerful air cone.
01:33Air is pushed through that hole and exited out into the wheel arch reducing the drag.
01:39The rotation of the wheel can actually build up high pressure inside the wheelhouse.
01:42So to deal with this problem we have an exit duct here that pulls the air out of the wheelhouse
01:46and off down the side of the car.
01:48And again following the same principles that we had at the front
01:50the pressure that builds up inside the wheelhouse is exited through this large duct underneath the tail light.
01:57The digital camera systems on the car provide fantastic visibility all around the vehicle.
02:02There's also an additional aero benefit.
02:04If you compare this module to a conventional mirror head it's simply much smaller.
02:07This helps us keep the air attached all the way down the side of the car
02:10allowing it to flow into this duct in the deep pillar.
02:14The floating winglets on the roof look like something for a modern day Formula 1 car
02:17but they actually do the job of keeping the air attached down the rear screen
02:20all channeled towards the rear wing.
02:22This is the most powerful active system we have on the car.
02:25It has the ability to optimise drag to increase the range
02:28or to deliver high downforce to improve control.
02:35Another subtle reference that we've taken from our legacy
02:38is to have one line that runs all the way through the car.
02:40It starts at the front with a very sharp nose section,
02:43runs all the way through the body
02:44and culminates at the rear with the tail lamp.
02:47This idea of hanging everything from one line
02:49is taken from our most iconic road car, the Series 1 Esprit.
02:57At the front of the car we separate out the light functions
02:59to be able to deliver this super slim and technical DRL.
03:03The signature inside is this sort of double L-shaped graphic
03:06which is actually inspired by the upturned wing tips from Jet Aircraft.
03:10This is something we did for the first time on the Envia hypercar
03:12but it now carries through the entire product line up for Lotus.
03:15The main beam and dip beam functions are hidden here, underneath.
03:23Pop-up LiDAR, it only deploys when it's needed.
03:25The mechanism here is referencing the pop-up headlamps
03:28which are a part of our iconic sports cars in the 1960s and 70s.
03:33Lotus is always about efficiency and clever solutions.
03:35Ideally we like to get components on the car to do more than one job.
03:38A great example of this is the tail lamp.
03:41This provides all the legal functions that we need
03:43but in addition it's able to tell you how much charge is in the battery.
03:47Shall we quickly talk about the tech specs?
03:49This car has a 900 volt architecture.
03:51What does that mean in the real world?
03:53Well firstly it means that we have fantastic charging capability.
03:55This car is able to go from 20% stay of charge
03:58to 80% in less than 9 minutes.
04:01It also delivers an amazing range.
04:03With this vehicle you could travel from London
04:05to the far north of Scotland, the Isle of Skye
04:07on a single charge and without refuelling.
04:10At the same time we've got fantastic performance
04:12with a dual motor setup, 952 PS
04:16and that enables a 0-100 time of 3.3 seconds.
04:20Perhaps more impressive though is the interior.
04:26So the core essence of Lotus is really that we make drivers cars
04:29and this is the latest expression of our driver focus cockpit.
04:33The entire architecture of this interior is based on
04:35putting you in the best place for driving and control of the vehicle.
04:38A super important point is that you also still have excellent forward visibility.
04:42Ahead of me I can see the fender muscles
04:43and this really allows you to place the car on the road with utter confidence.
04:48So we have a high console and an asymmetry design that wraps right around you.
04:52It's mirrored on the other side of the car with the door and the end of the IP.
04:54This creates the focus of a sports car.
04:57The design of the IP is super unique.
04:59We have these two extremely slim wing sections
05:01that optically float above the mid-roll of the IP.
05:05The priority for driving is focus.
05:07In front of me I have the technology line.
05:08This is a system of intelligent lighting and digital interfaces
05:12distributed across the IP.
05:14It's really about putting all the information in exactly the right place.
05:17Another way that we try and create focus is through the use of analog controls.
05:21Everything that I need to actually operate the vehicle is on a physical switch on the steering wheel in front
05:25of me.
05:29Yes, this has the spirit and the focus of a sports car, but it's also for long distance travel.
05:35Space, comfort and all the features you'd expect of a true luxury vehicle.
05:39Ultra responsive HMI powered by Unreal Engine.
05:42Super high-end audio system.
05:4423 speakers from KEF.
05:46Ventilated massage seats with multi-functionality.
05:50The materiality is exquisite.
05:52Switches are in real nettle and glass.
05:55There's an intelligent panoramic glass roof.
05:57This just allows you to adjust the light levels coming into the cabin.
06:01It's an extremely generous rear environment.
06:03There's a huge amount of leg room.
06:05We've got individually reclining rear seats, which provide super comfort.
06:09And then this rear bench is split folding.
06:11Of course, there's an entertainment screen in the rear,
06:14allowing the passengers to adjust the seating settings, the climate control in the rear and the audio.
06:19So you can see there's a generosity of space.
06:22There's all the storage that we need.
06:23But remember, it can still take you from 0 to 100 in 3.3 seconds.
06:27You know, most SUVs are sporty only by name,
06:29but this really is more like a sports car that learned to carry five people in all their luggage.
06:34Ah, before I forget, another nice...
06:43The simple message that we'd like you to take away from this is duality.
06:46You can have the engaging performance of a sports car combined with range and everyday music.
