00:00Tropical storm Bertha now moving into Texas after making its second landfall near the Texas-Louisiana border earlier this afternoon
00:08near the mouth of the Sabine River.
00:09The storm is expected to bring some localized flooding and coastal impacts to Texas through tonight.
00:18Thanks so much for being with us here on the ACU Weather Network. I'm Jeff Cornish.
00:21Some of the greatest impacts moving forward may be heavy rain in the mountains of extreme northern Mexico tomorrow where
00:28we may see a few inches of rain there with a little help from the topography in the mountains.
00:33But this is on its last legs as a tropical storm becoming probably a tropical depression most likely if not
00:41at 8 by 11 p.m. tonight.
00:43And then we'll see this rain out as a tropical rainstorm Friday over the mountains of northern Mexico.
00:48We do continue our coverage of Tropical Storm Bertha along the Gulf Coast right now.
00:53We want to check in with meteorologist and storm chaser Tony Lawback joining us now from Port Lavaca, Texas.
00:59Tony, I know you've been battling some of the elements, but most of the elements have really been seagull related
01:04more than fierce wind or rain.
01:07How's it going out there right now?
01:10Well, we are in some of that fierce rain.
01:13And I say that in air quotes right now.
01:14Actually, it was ironic because I was going to stand under this just for show.
01:17And then it turns out it was raining on me, some other nature.
01:20Did not want to make a liar out of it.
01:22So I am in a shelter.
01:24The camera guy, Connor, over there has to stand under the rain and hold his hands above the camera.
01:30So I guess he's earning his paycheck today.
01:32But, yes, we are here in Port Lavaca, Texas.
01:35We've been talking about the rain off and on all day.
01:38We're in one of those little splurts.
01:39This is going to be it for us here tonight.
01:41Off and on, if you get under one of these, it could come down pretty heavy.
01:44We've got a little bit of wind with this.
01:46Nothing.
01:47That is going to be much more than maybe minorly inconvenience.
01:52One of my favorite YouTubers there would probably be something along the lines of barely any inconvenience.
01:56That is what we're going to call this year.
01:58We are dealing with barely any inconvenience.
02:00The beachgoers here, you're seeing them kind of trailing off behind me.
02:03They've been out in the water.
02:04I mean, you probably do not have their AccuWeather app handy.
02:08This rain will be ending here within the next few minutes.
02:10So, by the time they come in from the water and get here to cover, this will probably be on
02:16its way out.
02:17In fact, by the time we end this in, it wouldn't surprise me if that's going to be the case.
02:21But, again, a little breezy at times.
02:23And we're talking 15, 20 miles an hour in some of the heavier squalls, if we recall them now.
02:28These are more convective-driven.
02:30Although, we haven't heard any thunder, haven't seen any lightnings in the earlier rounds that have come through.
02:35But, really, it has been mainly just an off-and-on type thing.
02:38The earlier cloud shield that came through here back in the morning hours, again, was kind of being concerned with
02:44the water spouts offshores that moved on as we were a little bit further back over to the coast.
02:49But once things got inland, it kind of started to break apart.
02:52We started to lose a lot of the stratoform, and it has really been off and on showers.
02:57Most of the steadier rain is actually off to the south.
03:00So, I'm going to be making my way down towards the Corpus Christi area, where they've been seeing some lighter,
03:04maybe hotter rain.
03:05It's in case of a little bit built in there as well.
03:08That's going to be my next destination here for the evening.
03:11We're going to continue to track whatever is left of Bertha here as it continues to work its way.
03:18Inlet, and as you mentioned, Jeff, will probably be more of an issue for the terrain-driven areas here further
03:23to the south, near the Rio Grande, and then parts of Mexico.
03:25So, we are lightening up a little bit, but like I said, Connor, my camera guy, sitting here dripping red,
03:32staring at me right now, going, wait a minute, this is supposed to be the other way around.
03:35But you know what?
03:36We had to make a murder today, so that is what I'm doing, as I am standing under this lovely
03:41hut here, Jeff, as we wrap things up here in the Vaca, and we'll continue to kind of turn it
03:46around here in the rest of the world.
03:49All right, Tony, you know, if you stand the right way without us able to see any of the pole,
03:54it looks like you're wearing the world's largest sombrero right now, and it's looking pretty good.
