00:00We talked about in the last hour, I tried not to steal your thunder this time.
00:03The temperature change, it's one of the more positive impacts from the storm.
00:09Yeah, and I would argue that for folks here, it's probably going to be the biggest impact
00:16because it has been so hot and so muggy. And this coming from the guy who literally
00:21left Colorado where it was 104 degrees, but it's a dry heat. And I'm reminded as I stand here on
00:28the beach in Galveston this morning, why we brag about dry heat, because it is a whole different
00:33beast when you add in humidity and you get AccuWeather real fuel values well into the 100
00:38degrees. No thanks. But yes, here this morning, kind of any other day here, folks, we're not really
00:45too overly concerned with major impacts from Bertha here as this continues to work its way in. As Anna
00:51mentioned, it's a little bit of a nudge on the track of that, but that's really not going to make
00:55a huge difference what folks are going to experience here. Yes, tropical storm warnings
00:59are in effect for the coastal areas here. You know, Houston, Galveston areas, we'll see
01:04some gusty winds later this afternoon. But I think the bulk of the impacts, particularly
01:08in the rain and the flooding department, are actually going to be displaced much further
01:12to the south. Here this morning, pretty much like I said, any other day, not really crowded
01:17here on a weekday in terms of people on the beach. And I'm sure that has more to do with
01:20the fact that it is a work day more than anything tropical related, but a few folks out. Even
01:25some folks in the water here, yes, the riptides are a little bit nasty and some of the circuits
01:29a little rough at times. But in all reality right now, it's a normal day for folks here
01:34in the Galveston area. Again, really the big break is coming into form of the temperatures
01:38here. Obviously starting off cool this morning, cool relatively speaking. All those temperatures
01:43were in the 80s when I left Houston this morning. So still going to be a warm muggy day,
01:47but we're going to trim a few degrees off of those temperatures. For me, in terms of what I'm going
01:52to be doing today as I'm covering this, it's going to be probably further to the south. I'm aiming
01:56for areas down near the Victoria area, maybe as far south as Corpus Christi. As we showed on
02:01satellite radar, most of the precipitation, more of the heavier stuff, is actually well to the south,
02:06displaced well to the south of the center of where Bertha is going to come on shore. So even
02:11though we're talking about landfall for Galveston, where the center of this storm is going to be,
02:16we're going to be tracking some of the bigger flooding impacts that are going to be displaced
02:19a couple hours further to the south and west. Again, Victoria to Corpus Christi will be the
02:24areas that I will be focused in on today. So pretty calm morning, all things considered.
02:28Really nice. The clouds coming in, kind of hampering the sun at times. We are seeing the squalls
02:33off in the distance, probably some of the darker clouds. I don't know necessarily how to call them
02:37squalls, but certainly we are seeing the precipitation well off to the south behind us here.
02:41Really for me, Anna, the biggest danger, and I've already been exposed to this here, I'm not lying,
02:46as I was setting this shot up here, a bunch of seagulls started getting into a fight over my head.
02:50One of them nearly dropped a roll on my head. I mean, that's dangerous. I didn't bring my
02:55hail helmet, and it was a stale roll too. That would have caused catastrophic damage to the hair
03:00that I spent so much time this morning getting ready for this breezy wind that I'm standing in here
03:04this morning. So it's been a rough morning for me here, all right guys? I'm really just trying to
03:08kind of regain my composure after that. You know, typically you guys tell me I'm on a roll. Well,
03:13it was almost the opposite moments ago. And Tony, I got to ask, given what a rough morning you just
03:20described, our goal with your coverage later is for you to be standing in the rain that we're
03:25expecting further south. Is that going to be worse than the potential roll dropped on your head by
03:30the seagull? You know, I got to tell you, the relief I have to be standing in rain later on
03:37this
03:37afternoon. I mean, I can't overstate just how close that could have been for me. I can't do it
03:44anymore, guys. I can't do this with a straight face. Yes, that is the goal for me today, is I
03:49want to stand in the rain of Bertha. We're going to make that happen.
