00:00you got to make the trip to the Black Hills to experience the 86th annual Sturges motorcycle
00:04rally. You know, the reason I never got out there is because my kids were always too young and you
00:07gave me all kinds of excuses. I got to have a haircut on that Wednesday and I promised my wife
00:13that I would help her host a Tupperware party. All right, enough about that. Rock, metal, frog
00:20and everything in between. Welcome to this episode of Talkin' Rock with Meltdown. Don't
00:26forget to follow the audio only Talkin' Rock podcast on all podcast platforms. And now
00:31it's time for today's conversation. Here's Meltdown. Jesse James Dupree. Jesse, it's been a long
00:37time. You wanted me to come to Sturgis and now I'm finally on the way. We'll be there
00:42coming up in the second week of August. Looking forward to it. And, you know, I was just looking
00:47through the bands that are playing, of course, Sammy Hagar, Rob Zombie, whatever. But there
00:51is a little bit of Detroit flair, you know. Yeah, Detroit flair? Yeah. Insane clown posse.
00:58Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, they played with us, you know, times in the past
01:03and they, believe it or not, people scratch their head, but it goes over incredible out
01:08there. I mean, Sturgis is just, I mean, we've done Little John, we've done Insane Clown
01:12Posse, we've done Rob Zombie, we've done, and we got Rob again this year. Of course, we got
01:17Sammy Hagar this year, Miranda Lambert, of course, Jackal playing on the Thursday night,
01:22giving away the rolling Sturgis, Harley Davidson motorcycle. But it's so rewarding to finally,
01:29after all these years of begging and pleading and assuring you that you'll be okay and having
01:38to sweet talk your wife into letting you come out. And it's just a thought. I've had to
01:44damn sign notarized papers that will return you in one or two pieces. But we finally got
01:52meltdown coming to the Black Hills.
01:54Yes, that's right. I can hardly wait. You know, you sent me that video the other day
01:57of the layout of the full throttle saloon. And I mean, it is massive. How many people you
02:02put in at a concert there?
02:04I mean, we can hold probably 15,000, 20,000 people. And then some, I mean, actually, to
02:10the left side of where the stage is, I mean, it goes, I mean, we got it goes one more
02:15mile
02:15back. So, you know, I mean, they're, we're out on that prairie. So I mean, we've got the
02:20ability to throw the damnedest and we do throw the damnedest party you've ever seen. The full
02:25throttle saloon, Pappy Hoyle campground. And, you know, there's all kind of riding out there.
02:31So you can, if you do ride, you can go to Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Deadwood, Devil's
02:36Tower, the Badlands, Spearfish Canyon, Needles Highway. I mean, there's just, there's, there's
02:42more things than you will even remotely start to get to this year. You will have to come
02:47back five years straight before you can even touch on the, every single bit of the most
02:54incredible riding in God's United States of America. But if you don't ride, you don't
03:00have to leave the property. We have 600 acres. We have, you know, 1500 RV sites. We
03:06have, we have an all you can eat breakfast and dinner buffet and Olympic sized swimming
03:10pool. Harley put a big activation there. We can get free haircuts, Harley Davidson
03:14haircuts, free pinstriping, free demo rides, free tattoos. I mean, anything you want right
03:21there on the property. And then of course you, you know, stagger into the full throttle
03:26Saloon. It's the world's, you know, South Dakota's largest stage. I mean, it's a tribute
03:31to what made America great. When you walk into this place meltdown, your jaw is going to be
03:35on the floor. I'm telling you, you don't even know what you're about to witness. I mean,
03:39you saw some of that video, but it doesn't do it justice. When you walk into the full throttle,
03:44there's these huge industrial revolution, dinosaur factory machines, milling machines, and all
03:52just incredible turn of the century. What made America great. And, and the bars are built into
03:58these machines and the bars are all hand welded. Every little sprocket and gear is all hand welded
04:04and, and just unbelievable. And, uh, uh, just, uh, the walls are covered in over a million dollars
04:10worth of vintage motorcycle sticking out. And, and there's one wall has got a full blown
04:14vintage tractor trailer rig coming out of it. And there's, there's, you walk out into this huge
04:18canopy. That's a football field long. That's just kind of outdoors, but with this huge canopy over
04:23and there's bars with moonshine trucks up behind the bars in the middle of them. And, and there's
04:28one bar that's got this huge sphere. So you said they're having a drink and there's people riding
04:32motorcycles upside down in that sphere. I mean, it's beyond Thunderdome crazy. So whether you ride
04:38a motorcycle or not, you got to make the trip to the black Hills to experience the 86th annual
04:44Sturges motorcycle, right? Yeah. It's something for everybody for sure. You know, the reason I never got out
04:48there was because my kids were always too young and I was always taking them on vacation throughout
04:52the summertime, but now, uh, my son's just coming back from a cruise. My daughter's going on a cruise.
04:56So they're taking their own vacation. So now it's dad's turn. Yeah. You gave me all kinds of excuses.
05:01I got to have a haircut on that Wednesday. And, uh, oh yeah. Uh, I promised my wife that I
05:07would
05:07help her host a Tupperware party. All right. Enough about that. I mean, I mean, that's, uh, that's,
05:14um, you know, that's the excuses I've been getting, but you ran out of excuses. So we finally, I called
05:19your wife, I called your barber, I called your proctologist. I did. I did have to make a deal
05:25with a proctologist that we would take care of your proctology on the property in Sturgis. So
05:30I've got my glove. If you don't mind, I'm going to use a welding glove and we're going to get
05:37you
05:37through that. But no, it's going to be, I'm telling you, man, we're so excited about having you.
05:41And, um, I mean, you've, you've never ever had the most incredible writing that you're going to
05:47have and people watching and just seriously. And I'll also redundantly share the warning that once
05:55you come out this first year, you'll never miss another one. All right. All right. Fair enough.
05:59Hey, what about, what about, what about big daddy? No, it all there real damn letting you the radio
06:04station telling you that you could come. I mean, that was a big deal. Yeah, no doubts. No,
06:10no. Hey, look, I'm, I'm, I'm looking forward to this. I can hardly wait, you know, you know,
06:13me, it's like, get me on an open road. And that's where I, that's where I love to be. Hey,
06:17so, um,
06:18uh, I I've talked to you about this before, kind of, uh, just, you know, with one-on-one,
06:21but tell everybody how you got hooked up with Harley Davidson and what exactly you do with the
06:25Harley Davidson brand. Well, yeah, I mean, well, first of all, I grew up, you know, my dad had a,
06:29uh, Harley in the carport. We couldn't afford a garage or a basement, you know,
06:33he had just an open carport, but, uh, he, his Harley was there my whole life. And it was always
06:38a big deal, you know, for him to take us for rides when we were kids and everything. And so
06:42I've
06:42always, you know, I've always measured, you know, like the day I bought my first Harley Davidson,
06:46I felt in a lot of ways, I, you know, became my own man. I mean, it's, you know, it's
06:49just a rite
06:50of, rite of passage. Right. And there's, there's something, I mean, you said it while you just said
06:55it two seconds ago, you know, you experienced that first taste of freedom in, you know, in getting on a
07:03and, uh, and hitting the open road. And there's something that, especially in this day and time
07:09with these cell phones being an appendage and your computer being an appendage. And there's
07:16something about that liberating moment when you throw your leg over that motorcycle, that Harley
07:21Davidson and you hit the road and everything, your whole perspective on the world changes. And, and
07:28so I live it. I love it. I'm passionate about it. I've always been an avid writer and, uh,
07:33and the Harley Davidson motor company just reached out and said, Hey, you know, you're all over the
07:38country. You're doing all these fun things. We, you know, let's, let's put it together. So we started
07:44doing these rolling campaigns. So we, uh, right now there's a campaign going on called rolling
07:48Sturgis and you can go into your local Harley Davidson dealership. And we have 412 dealerships,
07:55you know, just like motor city who you're riding out with, you know, to, to the black hill.
07:59Yeah. And Motown as well. And Motown, Motown in motor city. And, but, but, but there's dealerships
08:07all over the country. I mean, you find your, your, your dealership and you go in and you tell them
08:11you want to register for rolling Sturgis, you scan a QR code and you're on your way to being a
08:15winner
08:15and listen to all the things that the motor company has given away. You go in a motorcycle.
08:22Matter of fact, this, this campaign is twice as big because it's rolling Sturgis to Milwaukee because
08:26the big ride home event is Labor Day in Milwaukee. So we're combining the two campaigns. So you can
08:32win one of two motorcycles, beautiful top of the line motorcycles. You can win one of 11 trips that
08:40we're giving away to Sturgis or one of 11 trips we're giving away to Milwaukee. We're giving away
08:44a chance to win one of two $5,000 gift cards. Who doesn't need $5,000? We're giving away a
08:50chance
08:50to win a guitar, a custom Dean rolling USA guitar that I sent the dealers. I get a chance to
08:56win a
08:56Bertello pizza oven. You get a chance to win swag bags, wristbands to camp at Sturgis worth about
09:01800 bucks a pair to see all the concerts with Sammy Hagar, Rob Zombie, Miranda Lambert,
09:06Insane Clown Posse, Jackal, whatever you want to say, but it's a great event, but there's no other
09:13company, no other motorcycle manufacturer, no other car manufacturer giving away so many opportunities
09:19to win so much. And, you know, and right now you just go into your dealership and you can do
09:24that.
09:25And people don't realize, but these dealerships have riding academies. If you don't ride and you
09:29want to ride, you can take a riding course and learn how to ride. And, and even if you don't
09:35want
09:35to ride, it's still great to be part of the culture. Go win your $5,000 gift card, go win
09:41the guitars,
09:42go win the wristbands to camp in Sturgis, whether you ride or not, you can be part of the family
09:47and
09:48Harley Davidson. Right now we've got the let's ride challenge going on too, where
09:51we've challenged, we want every single motorcycle rider, whether they're riding a Harley or not,
09:57we want everybody to go to the dealership and we want them to enter the let's ride challenge.
10:01And we're looking to hit 100 cumulative miles. And when we have 100 million cumulative miles,
10:08we just are, you know, 100 million. We're just now about to hit, we're at like 46 million miles.
10:15Wow. And we've got 56, 57,000 people participating. We're looking for more.
10:20The oldest motorcycle in this let's ride challenge is a 1929 WL. I mean, how cool is that? But, but
10:27we,
10:27so you can do that. And, and what's going to happen is when we, when we hit a hundred million
10:31miles,
10:32there's going to be a million dollar donation to veterans, veterans organizations. And, and, and
10:37along the way, you can win one of five Harley Davidson motorcycles. So between those five
10:42motorcycles and then the rolling campaign where you can win one of two months, there's seven
10:46motorcycles that you've got a chance to win. Who does that? Yeah. Harley. So you want to ask me
10:52why I love Harley Davidson? I mean, they're the coolest and you know, and, and, and we're going to
10:57be out there. If you, if you're a hog member, a Harley Davidson owner group member, you get a
11:02discount to stay on our property. And, uh, you just go to Pappy Hoyle campground.com P-A-P-P
11:08-Y-H-O-E-L
11:09campground.com and make your reservations. Come and party with us. All right. So getting to, uh,
11:15to Jackal last time I saw you, you, you actually actually was on Valentine's day. Can't let the
11:19people forget about that. Uh, Jesse and I shared flowers and drinks, but you did give away a motorcycle
11:26that day, but you also played some, uh, some music for me. Are we going to see any new music
11:30coming out from you or Jackal anytime soon? Yeah. Well, I've, I've had some stuff I've been working
11:35on. I mean, with my schedule has been so crazy. I just got out. I actually went in the studio
11:39and
11:39was working on some stuff that me and Nigel and Romney, I'm enjoying playing with my son. Well,
11:44you know, I mean, that's just a moment in time where he's just at the right age and, and, and
11:49he's great
11:49at what he's doing. And I mean, there's not a lot of father sons in rock and roll that have
11:54been able to
11:54record and put music out together. So I've got, you know, you got, um, uh, Pete Townsend from the
12:00who's got his son playing in the who, and you got, uh, uh, Rick Nelson from cheap trick. He's got
12:05his
12:05son playing drums. And then you got, um, uh, uh, Eddie Van Halen had Wolfgang. Yeah. You know,
12:12and, uh, Nigel's out doing his thing too, uh, Nigel Dupree, and you can check his stuff. He's he,
12:17you can go find him on Spotify or any of the streaming platforms. And under Nigel Dupree,
12:22it's called Nigel, Nigel in the heat. Yeah. He's out there doing his thing, but, uh, he's, um,
12:26he's doing great, but I've been recording with him and, and yeah, I'll be putting some more stuff
12:30out soon. And, um, Oh, really soon after, after Sturgis perhaps. Yeah. Hopefully. Yeah. I mean,
12:38I'm getting close. And I see that, uh, Nigel's actually opening up the show for Sammy Hagar on August
12:438th. So that's pretty cool. How cool is that? Right. I mean, he's about to bust on that one. Cause
12:47he's a
12:47huge Sammy Hagar fan and Sammy was real cool. You know, reached out and we let Sammy know that,
12:51that, uh, Nigel was wanting to open up for him and Sammy was like, bring him on. It's cool.
12:57Yeah. That's awesome. Well, Jesse, anything else you have to add? I'm going to, uh, I'm going to go
13:01and get some people signed up here. I've been doing that at the dealerships at my bike nights at
13:05Stingers and Lake Point Yacht Club as well. And at Motor City, Harley Davidson and Motown Harley Davidson.
13:10Uh, but I'm super fired up, super excited. I'll be flying in that weekend to see Sammy. And then of
13:14course,
13:14uh, doing my show all week long, anything else the, uh, the people should know.
13:19Um, you know what, we just gotta be ready for August 7th through 14th, make your reservations

13:48were
13:48talking about. I think they get up to 31 entries, uh, to do that. So yeah, there's a lot going
13:52on,
13:53all this stuff on the website. I will put it in the details description of this episode here. Uh,
13:58but man, I'm really looking forward to it, but signing up a bunch of people and it looks like
14:02it's going to be, uh, some great riding out there in Sturges. I can hardly wait. I've never,
14:05I've never witnessed anything like that. I can't wait to shake the hand of the person that wins
14:10the trip to come to Sturges and camp right beside you. We've got everything set up for them. We got
14:14the camper, we got their wristbands, we got everything that they need. They're going to
