00:00The 2026 Caribbean Premier League bowls off on August 7th, with this year's tournament
00:05seeing Jamaica Kingsmen as the newest addition to increase the teams to seven.
00:09Television coverage will be on cable, which means not everyone is going to have access
00:13to the matches.
00:14And that's where radio comes in.
00:16JEM radio station manager Raul D'Souza is pleased that Torch 92.3 FM is once again broadcasting
00:22the matches to bring smiles to many faces.
00:24Because of the time of the games, I mean, a lot of games are 7 PM.
00:28The roads are going to be still covered in traffic.
00:33JEM radio has always ensured that you could start your CPL game from the car.
00:38If when you get home, you choose to switch over.
00:40A lot of people, when they get home, they may put on the visual on TV, but the commentary
00:45that we do on JEM radio for CPL across the region is so incredible.
00:49And some of the top commentators across the region this year, I'm very excited as well,
00:55because what's going to happen this year is we're going to incorporate a lot of commentary
00:59teams from up the specific islands.
01:02So you're going to get a team out of Antigua, a team out of St Kitts, the team out of
01:06Barbados,
01:06the team out of Guyana, and obviously superstars in Trinidad here.
01:10Having signed another contract with the CPL in 2025 for three years, it means this is the
01:16second year for JEM radio, with 2027 being the last in terms of the current deal.
01:22But as far as D'Souza is concerned, that partnership can continue in years to follow,
01:27since he's delighted with what's been happening.
01:30I definitely don't see next year being the last year.
01:33If I have a say in it, I would want to continue the partnership.
01:38I think that the partnership has worked really well in terms of we have delivered an incredible
01:43product from 2019 to now in terms of radio commentary for live ball by ball for CPL.
01:50And the relationship that we've developed with CPL,
01:52GEM radio by extension one Caribbean media is excellent.
01:57These guys do assist me a lot with stuff throughout the tournament beyond.
02:02And I do the same, you know.
02:03Looking at the fun side, it's no secret that D'Souza is a big fan of the St. Lucia Kings,
02:08who won the title in 2024. Speaking of which, he welcomes the extra team in this year's CPL,
02:15plus Jamaica Empress in the women's CPL.
02:18Yeah, absolute excitement. And I tell everyone that my household becomes a war zone during CPL.
02:23So my son is a Jamaica fan. My daughter is a TKR fan. So Zane is all Jamaica. Isabel is
02:30all TKR.
02:31I am, as you know, St. Lucia Kings. So, I mean, it's super exciting. And when we look at it,
02:38I would say that it augurs well for Jamaica to be back in this tournament. And you know,
02:44looking towards next year, I would really hope that maybe we get one more team into the tournament.
02:48The CPL ends on September 20th, with the playoffs and final taking place in Barbados.
02:54Looking at the women's Caribbean Premier League, those matches bowl off on September 5th,
02:59with radio coverage also being provided by Taj 92.3 FM.
03:02Even though now I need to export.
03:04We try the different open combinations.
