00:00Police say the incident occurred around 9.30 p.m. along La Clave Street in Chaguanas.
00:06Investigators were told that Jelani Garcia-Williams had just exited a mini-mart and was about to
00:11enter the driver's seat of his parked black sports utility vehicle when another car pulled
00:16alongside him. A man dressed in dark clothing reportedly exited from the right rear passenger
00:22side of the car holding a firearm. Residents then reported hearing several loud explosions
00:28before the gunman returned to the vehicle which then sped off in a southerly direction leaving
00:34Williams on the roadway with apparent gunshot wounds. Around 9.50 p.m., officers of the Central
00:40Division Task Force who were on mobile patrol in the area received the report of the shooting.
00:46When officers arrived shortly after 10 p.m., they found Williams lying face down on the roadway with
00:52no signs of life. The district medical officer later visited the scene, pronounced Williams dead,
00:57and ordered the removal of the body pending a post-mortem examination at the Forensic Science
01:03Centre in St. James. Crime scene investigators processed the area and recovered a pistol from
01:09the waistband of the deceased along with a magazine containing 17 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
01:15Investigators also retrieved several spent shell casings, a projectile and a black fish's hat at the
01:22scene of the shooting. Williams' vehicle was later taken to the Special Evidence Recovery Unit for further
01:29examination. His body was later removed from the scene, pending an autopsy. Police investigations are
