00:00on v-town yeah if you're from the bay you know exactly what i'm talking about and we are live
00:06out here at silverado match play kitchen and bar is the host the food's been incredible that was
00:12great to visit with shasky with his experience the golf has been incredible the accommodations
00:16have been incredible the people have been incredible we are just having a great time
00:21and we're going to ramp it up even more because we get to visit a little bit with one of
00:26the guys
00:26who's been contributing to a very interesting warriors summer league run and i say v-town
00:33because he's also a local from vallejo chance mcmillan of the warriors uh joins us now right
00:40here on the river islands guest line and we're thankful for him doing it hey chance what's going
00:44on i'm good how are you hey man we are awesome and it's good to make your acquaintance and have
00:50you
00:50on the show give us a little bit of what this experience has been like for you uh especially
00:56as a uh a local kid from v-town um man it's been crazy um it honestly is really a
01:05blessing uh to to
01:07put on the warriors uniform and play in front of the home crowd while we had the games up there
01:14at
01:14the california classic and i had a bunch of my family up there too so it's just been been crazy
01:20so oh yeah i love it i mean summer league is a stepping stone for so many and as you're
01:27playing
01:27and you're getting more comfortable and you're balling out like what do you think is the next
01:31step and what are you looking forward to coming up here in the fall um honestly i haven't looked too
01:38far ahead in terms of like basketball but i'm just staying where my feet are right now just taking it
01:46day by day one game at a time and then we'll just see where the cards fall 17 points a
01:53game for santa
01:54cruz last year so i i mean if somebody would kind of ask you to to describe your game and
02:01the experience
02:02that you had last year what would you say um shooting a ton of threes ball handling making the
02:11right reads throwing lobs just having fun and everyone involved in the game and that's obviously
02:18something that the warriors clearly need golden states and cruz and and whatever when you look at
02:24your game now versus where it was last year during your time in santa cruz how much better
02:29have you gotten and how much work have you been able to put in
02:36um in terms of my game i feel a lot more confident with the ball in my hand um if
02:42you look at my
02:43assists from my last year of college until uh my first year pro i was having like one assist a
02:51game
02:51my last year of college and i bumped that up to five assists this past season with santa cruz
02:57and um yeah like i just feel a lot extremely more confident with the ball and making like the
03:05right decisions chance mcmillan is with us here on withered and dibs 95 7 the game part of the
03:10warriors summer league roster and playing well i'd love to get into your background a little bit in
03:15your story um and you know dibs and i are sitting right here at silverado right now you've got some
03:20history in napa too don't you i went to uh ballistic preps uh post-grad um program was called golden
03:29state prep so yeah that was in napa okay so and then take us through your story and kind of
03:35how
03:35you've ended up where you are today like where did it go from there okay so um started off playing
03:44at a
03:44small aau team called lake show i'm pretty sure a lot of a lot of bay area kids that play
03:52a you know
03:53about lake show so i started playing there and then um my senior year of high school i played uh
04:02aau ball and then i ended up getting a call from the oakland soldiers and they wanted me to to
04:10come
04:10play with them because they didn't have a point guard at the time but they were like in order for
04:16you to play with us you would have to reclass so i was like let me let me let me
04:23take a step back
04:24talk to my family about it think about the pros and the cons to it and we we thought that
04:30having
04:30another year being able to be recruited while being on one of the best basketball circuits there is
04:37out there we was like yeah why not and the postgrad school that we chose was prolific prep
04:44and shoot that's like right down the street from vallejo so i made that decision to go to golden
04:50state prep and then from there um i had a good year um i got recruited under dan marley that
04:58was when
04:58he was at gcu at the time but later that year while i was at golden state prep he ended
05:05up getting
05:05fired and then that's when brian drew came along and he was the head coach at gcu kept me there
05:12and then i was at gcu for three years um my third year at gcu i shot 49 from the
05:21field 44 from three
05:22i put my name in the portal um i ended up getting a call from grant mccaslin at texas type
05:30and eight and coach ac and then i decided to take my my basketball journey to texas tech
05:38i had a a great two years at texas tech um my final year at at texas tech i shot
05:4652 from the field 44
05:48from three uh led the big 12 in um three point percentage and we went on to the lead eight
05:56and i ended up losing uh will richard in the lead eight which is funny because we played the
06:01elite eight we played the elite eight in the chase center too which makes it even more crazy
06:07and then made the uh we made the decision to go pro and then ended up in santa cruz and
06:14now
06:15had that year and then now i'm in a summer league with the warriors what an incredible story
06:21chance mcmillan here on 95 7 the game so when you reclassified you basically decided to take
06:27an extra year of high school is that what you did it's really a gap year between high school and
06:34college
06:34so i took a couple of college courses to put me ahead so when i ended up when i end
06:41up going to
06:42college i already have enough credits and more i don't have to worry about that chance uh we want
06:49to give the ultimate respect to every player on the roster that said i think you'll understand
06:53where this question is coming from because he was the first round draft pick this year tell everybody
06:58what it's like in limited experience you've had but what's it been like to play with yaxo lindeborg and
07:04and and how would you describe what you're seeing there um it's been honestly really fun um
07:13he's a goofy dude but he also knows how to take care of business too and um shoot he's an
07:21amazing
07:22basketball player i mean the whole world can see it right now um and i think the the one thing
07:28that
07:29really separates him is that he's able to connect with the players off the court and and him winning
07:36a national championship and me being able to go to elite eight i i really believe that the separator
07:43is having a connection with your teammates and i don't know if you guys can see it now um i
07:49feel
07:49like our group is extremely connected and and and yax is a big piece of this too chance i'd love
07:58to hear
07:58a little bit more about that specifically him the teammate in what way do you guys or have you
08:05connected off the court um we just crack a lot of jokes uh we just get to know each other
08:14when we're
08:15in our locker room and and stuff like that um and like we're we're always like around each other when
08:20we're not in practice too so i feel like that that definitely helps with us when it comes to being
08:28on
08:28the court too as well yeah it's it's that bonding and here you are two and oh in summer league
08:33and
08:34you've got a game tomorrow and then you've got one more i think it's on thursday is there any talk
08:39amongst the group about like wanting to go out there and maybe win this summer league or is that
08:44something that doesn't even really cross your mind no that definitely we definitely talked about it um
08:51the whole goal is to win this whole thing so we're just gonna have to take it day by day
08:57and see where it goes chance mcmillan of the warriors summer league roster has there been
09:04anything that you've you know people always talk about welcome to the to the nba type moments and i
09:11know that this is just summer league and you've already got a year under your belt with santa cruz
09:14but has there been anything in this experience that's kind of raised your eyebrows a little bit
09:19in terms of the level of play that you're now experiencing um i feel like the g league is
09:28somewhat inexperienced but my my welcome to the nba moments when i threw that lob to
09:35lejay because i threw it pretty high yeah i low-key did not think he was going to catch it
09:40and he
09:40caught it and dunked it that that really raised my eyebrows um love it well we're looking forward to
09:47watching the journey for each and every one of you that are on this roster we're looking forward to
09:52watching more games coming up this week so chance it's it's really nice to meet you at least over
09:57the phone here and we thank you so much for doing that yes thank you guys for having me absolutely
10:02we'll do it again that's chance mcmillan of the warriors summer league team
