00:00Meanwhile, the Tigers were fortunate enough to have the A's on the schedule.
00:04Talk about playing the worst baseball in the game.
00:06I know we'll get to that.
00:07The A's have been an absolute disaster lately.
00:10Wow.
00:10After that nice start to them, it feels like the wheels are falling off that team.
00:14So Detroit is now back in it again because they are playing in the American League.
00:19Even the Twins feel like they're in it.
00:21But anyway, they swept the A's just like the Marlins did.
00:24And they split their series thus far against the Philadelphia Phillies.
00:28So I guess, Tom, I would ask you this.
00:30Like the Tigers seem to be bona fide sellers a week ago.
00:34But now all of a sudden, you know, it feels like maybe they're back in.
00:39And now I'm convinced the Royals are out.
00:41Okay.
00:41No matter if they win five in a row, I'm still going to say they're out.
00:44But the Tigers do have a talented squad here.
00:48Should the Tigers hang around?
00:50I mean, this is the hardest part here, Tom.
00:52Again, with this deadline on, I think it's August 3rd or August 4th, whatever it is.
00:55We really are not going to.
00:56We're going to come back on the show next week or the week after.
00:58And still not know if these teams are in or out.
01:01They are two and a half games out of the wild card.
01:04They have a positive run differential.
01:06And yet they have the player that is most highly sought after in school for literally any team.
01:13And his name has obviously been there in terms of the trade rumors for a year or so at this
01:19point.
01:20Will they trade him?
01:22I believe they have to.
01:23Not trading him is a spot that you are not maximizing the return they could possibly get.
01:29It's ultimately the job of the GM or the president of baseball operations.
01:33You have to do what's best for the team.
01:34If you're not going to be able to resign him, you have to trade him.
01:36It doesn't matter if you're in a wild card spot or not.
01:39You don't have the flexibility to keep him and then not get anything back in return.
01:46Yeah, I still my sense is my gut tells me is that Detroit's going to still trade him, Tom.
01:53You know, I think that I think they're going to look at that Otani situation for a few years ago.
01:58And look, I can't guarantee it.
02:00But the price that someone's going to pay to get him down the stretch that could reset their franchise for
02:06two months of school.
02:08Well, I mean, the Tigers are not winning the World Series.
02:10They're probably not going to the American League Championship Series.
02:13Don't you think, Tom, they have to do that?
02:15Like, unless they're over 500 and they're in.
02:18Beyond that, they have they cannot be a 500 club chasing ghosts here.
02:23I think they got to move.
02:24They really can.
02:25And like to your point, we're not we have a couple more.
02:27It's not just like this is around the corner this Thursday.
02:30We've actually a couple more weeks.
02:31So if all of a sudden that they are firmly in a wild card spot come August 1st, 2nd, 3rd,
02:374th, whatever it is,
02:38that's going to be a different story.
02:39But that is going to be the determining factor, because if they're there, that's the hardest decision you have to
02:45make.
02:45You have to keep the player and not get anything back in return, knowing that you're still not good enough
02:49to win the World Series.
02:50Or you just have to move on from and give up on the season and lose the playoff spot that
02:53you presumably have.
