00:00Let's talk about the next team, Craig.
00:01Get the pencils out with no eraser and write down like on a golf scorecard.
00:06Yeah, Detroit's going to the playoffs.
00:08This team's going to be hell on wheels with their starting pitching staff
00:11and a one-two punch.
00:12School Bowl goes down.
00:13Looks like he's coming back.
00:14We'll get that in a few moments.
00:15But, Craig, I didn't see this.
00:1620-32 record on Memorial Day weekend.
00:188-14 against teams better than 500.
00:21Bad in one-run games and expected there at 23-29.
00:24So maybe a little bit against the eight ball.
00:27But this is one of the more surprising teams.
00:29Yes, Kansas City.
00:30The Tigers, I thought, would take that next step as this team,
00:34legitimate in the bullpen, legitimate one through nine,
00:36really good starting pitching, adding Fran Brevaldez.
00:39This is their season.
00:40What a disappointment.
00:43It is a little bit of a lesson here, I think, with this one.
00:46And it's not to say to be the Monday morning quarterback
00:49and look back on Fran Brevaldez's signing.
00:51I mean, there was nothing wrong with it, per se.
00:54But this is a team that is really, Donnie, not a small market.
00:58And this is a team that, in the past, gave Miguel Cabrera $300 million
01:02or $200, whatever it is.
01:04And they were spenders.
01:05And they pushed very hard.
01:08I was disappointed with their offseason.
01:11A couple of years ago, I picked them, I think,
01:13to get to the World Series.
01:14But I looked at the team this offseason and said,
01:16you know, where is that 30-home-run-hitting veteran, Donnie?
01:20You know, like, where are the pieces to help these young guys
01:23get through the season?
01:25Donnie, they didn't do it.
01:26And I know they have a great manager.
01:28I know A.J. Hinch is a really good manager.
01:30So it ain't that.
01:31I think just the roster construction this year was poor.
01:34And I think they owed it, instead of Framber,
01:38to get themselves, you know, Pete Alonzo.
01:40Like, that would have been the signing for me with that,
01:43just to make sure that the shoe didn't fall off
01:46on some of the offensive players.
01:47Their offense was always okay,
01:49but you knew it was going to be on the strength
01:50of the starting pitching.
01:51Why did they add Framber-Valdez to this mix?
01:54I have no idea.
01:56But, yeah, a very, very disappointing season.
01:59But to me on this one,
02:00I look at the offseason and say they failed.
02:02They needed to go out and get some bats.
02:05They had the pitching,
02:06and it seems like that park plays, Donnie,
02:07to pitching, too.
02:08It just didn't come through.
02:10Yeah, the shame of it, too,
02:11is because, you know,
02:12the visions of Grando that you have is,
02:14boy, if we can just make the playoffs
02:15and have two healthy pitchers with that one-two punch,
02:17we're going to do a lot of damage.
02:19And maybe you get both of those pitchers there.
02:21You don't even make the playoffs to this point.
02:23But Scooble seems like he's coming back really well,
02:25some of these rehab assignments
02:26that are possibly coming up back sooner than later,
02:28and they're going to need him.
02:29But if you look at that lineup,
02:31one through nine,
02:32Gleyber Torres, Trey Sweeney,
02:33Javi Baez, Kerry Carpenter,
02:35Parker Meadows,
02:36all in the ILs we head into the weekend here
02:38from Memorial Day,
02:39and you say,
02:40well, get some of those guys back, Craig.
02:41Let me ask you this,
02:42because I did like, you know,
02:43Rays and Yankees to win this division.
02:45Is there a chance that we see the Tigers
02:47starting to climb and gain in August and September
02:49with a legitimate chance to make the playoffs?
02:51I don't think so.
02:52I think they've buried themselves.
02:54I think the Royals have buried themselves.
02:55I think, you know, Cleveland,
02:56I don't think they're going to run away with it,
02:58but it may be a division where 84 wins wins it.
