03:33symmetry here is startling michelle that that photo um is is probably pulitzer worthy it's a little early

03:41to start talking about that but that photo is one instance of a woman on a bus surrounded by people

03:46who are wearing masks who are about to march in washington carrying confederate flags but i see

03:50that photo and i see america's workplaces i see america's school systems and those men are wearing

03:55masks but they go and they surround women like her in their workplaces um they will go back to a

04:03place

04:03where they can take off their mask and then they will be working someplace where their noxious ideas

04:10you know will will be put in place in hiring decisions in decisions about who gets a mortgage and who

04:16doesn't um however when i look at them marching trying to project power i don't see power i see fear

04:23i i see the projection of fear i i see people who are afraid of a of a future that

04:28has already arrived

04:29they are afraid of an america that is multicultural they are worried about a multicultural democracy

04:37they are worried about losing power they want to create an america where white people and white men

04:44are dominant and you know america has to then decide do we want to hold on to our superpower

04:49status do we want to be prominent in the world or do we want to be a supremacist i see

09:35that was captured that has gone viral which we're putting on the screen now of the people who came

09:39to march uh surrounding a young african-american woman and the question i'll start with you since

09:47you're an elected republican sitting here um when you see that march what do you say what i say is

09:55that is not the soul of america look um you know we are all created equally that is what what

10:02whole emphasis is based on here in this country and and i i would just i would just not ignore

10:08it but i

10:08i don't pay that much credence to it because that does not represent the soul of america we we in

10:15believe in inequality and and that is simply not reflective certainly not of the republican party i can assure

10:22you of that you know i i watch this and i think about um all the sort of the struggle

10:29america has had great triumphs but it's also had trials i had to have a conversation with my kids

10:32the other day about the fourth of july because our family weren't free on the fourth of july our family

10:37our literally ancestors were enslaved on the fourth of july and so while america has had amazing things

10:43that's happened we also have these moments where we have this other darker part of our soul that exists

10:48inside of it but our kids are strong enough my kids got that they got it immediately our kids are

10:52strong enough to understand this they're big enough they can do it and we want our kids to be stronger

10:56and to be able to take care of what's coming that we can't even imagine the world they're going to

11:00inherit we've got to give them all the facts so that they're able to compete and right now the

11:05president's approach is to ignore the tough parts about america and that's going to make our kids

11:10not able to deal with the hard parts in their own life i mean i think that's a part of

11:13the

11:14exceptionalism though i would say jamal right you think about the history of our country

11:17where our ancestors began and where we are today now i agree with you there are certainly still

11:22trials that we must overcome but man you think about the past couple hundred years where we

11:27couldn't read couldn't do basic math we've had a black president we see black entrepreneurs inventors

11:34creators we're dominating in so many different sectors i'd like to see us do a bit more in the

11:39science and business realm but we're slowly getting there and so to me that speaks to the essence of who

11:44are we're imperfect we're flawed and yet the system enables us to continue to improve why won't

11:51the president why won't the president make that case though that's exactly would you vote for me

11:55then if i ran for president i mean i might vote for you i will also tell you is that

12:00aren't necessarily coming out and condemning this the reason why we have white supremacists marching on

12:07the streets of washington dc is because he pardoned everyone who stormed the capitol on january 6th he

12:14has emboldened the white supremacists so where is the republican party including the president

12:18in speaking out when it comes to these white supremacists on our streets you know you know

12:24the irony here i mean we look at this panel here and who is the grandson of the of a

12:29sharecropper who

12:30is the son of a shift worker in a paper mill who is the first one in his extended family

12:36to go to

12:36college and to graduate and now he's walking the halls of congress you want to talk about the american

12:41dream i've lived the american dream and as you guys heard there this chick you see right there on your

12:47screen is one of the big reasons why i played that clip at the beginning the republican party hasn't

12:51denounced this where is donald trump in denouncing this see what they always do the man has the hold on
