03:10scott pelly fired from cbs news just one day after a heated clash with 60 minutes leadership

03:18as one of america's landmark newscasts faces a very public crisis two days ago pelly had clashed with

03:24the show's controversial new leader technology journalist and documentary maker nick bilton

03:30in a staff meeting pelly attacked bilton's qualifications and blasted the news network's

03:34leadership according to a source in the room and an audio recording obtained by nbc news

03:39now bilton writing to pelly in a scathing termination letter obtained by nbc news quote you hijacked my first

03:46meeting with staff to disparage me saying it quote demonstrated that you have no interest in contributing

03:52to the future success of the show in a separate note to staffers bilton saying he made repeated

03:57attempts to speak with pelly to no avail it felt like scott pelly was tempting fate here he knew

04:03that he was becoming a sort of leader of a resistance pelly who spent nearly four decades at the network

04:10responded with a blistering statement of his own overnight writing new management has instructed me

04:15to inject falsehoods and bias into a politically sensitive story to date in every case i have managed to

04:21ignore these instructions or refuse them you mean they asked you to be unbiased and actually tell

06:46jobs pelly said yesterday that cbs news editor-in-chief barry weiss is quote murdering 60 minutes by firing

06:52veteran staffers and hire think about how self-centered you have to be to as an employee look at your

09:23has tonight been fired by the newly revamped cbs news yesterday mr pelly reportedly lambasted the

09:33new leadership at 60 minutes and at cbs for effectively killing the long-running news magazine

09:40after firing scores of staff members and its leadership and after accusations of

09:45meddling in the show's editorial process for that directly as a result of that confrontation at

09:51a staff meeting mr pelly appears to have been fired by the network um for cause emis now has obtained

09:58the letter sent to mr pelly this evening from the new newly appointed executive producer at 60 minutes

10:04he's just been installed there as part of the sort of

10:08bald-faced hungarian style oligarchic takeover of that news organization this newly

10:14appointed executive um wrote to scott pelly and the the imbalance in terms of uh journalistic

10:22experience there is remarkable um given what the contents of the letter is the contents of the

10:28letter are uh the letter says in part to scott pelly quote yesterday you hijacked my first meeting with

10:35staff to disparage me my qualifications and my intentions with remarkable incivility and contempt

10:45the letter from the newly appointed executive producer goes on to say that mr pelly was terminated

10:50for cause effective immediately on on the on the free press part of this um i made a crack there

10:59talking about the scott pelly news as being sort of hungarian oligarchic style takeover the media and

11:04i mean that um sort of as a joke but also sort of deadly serious i mean the there's nobody

11:11who is more

11:12so the only way you're able to tell news is if it's completely left twisted uh and you're caping for

11:19the democrat party that's the only way you can't shoot it straight you can't tell it right down the

11:25middle uh and if you do uh it's it's a hungarian takeover

13:28newsroom was one of censorship i take her at her word when she says that in her stories they were

13:40here it is very clear what they are doing um the mandate for barry weiss is not you know i

15:26veteran journalist scott pelly uh larry he was fired tonight from cbs after he had a number of

15:33disagreements clashes with the executive producer of 60 minutes nick bilton he wrote this long letter

15:40talking about why scott pelly was fired he said that he you know ambushed him he was disparaging him he

15:46was trying to take over the program he tried to work this out with him ahead of time that clearly

15:52didn't

15:52work uh scott pelly was publicly uh going after him and it made it clear that he was not interested

15:58and really working with him on the future of the show so i'm not surprised this happened what do you

16:02think i'm not surprised either i mean they had a meeting uh where it was kind of like a get

16:07to know

16:07me uh and scott pelly stands up there and blasts the guy uh in front of all the other staffers

16:13uh and

16:14i think the meeting lasted about 15 minutes the producer was so uh upset about it and when uh the

16:19producer walks out of the meeting the other staffers stand up and they applaud scott pelly scott pelly is

16:23an employee uh he does not own the candy store these are new owners new owners go in a different

16:28direction and i think it's a good thing i think uh 60 minutes has been biased we saw that interview

16:33that they tailored uh with kamala harris so uh uh barry weiss the new uh uh owner new the new

16:40uh boss

16:40uh is taking uh that that show and and that network into a different direction but again he's an

16:46employee you stand up there and you blast your boss my company by the way has just been purchased

16:50it's going private i can't imagine standing up uh to the new owner going oh you're going in the

16:55wrong direction how dare you we i think your resume is thin which is what he said are you kidding
