00:00we damn sure don't want to be a socialist nation this ain't denmark this ain't finland
00:04this ain't sweden this is the united states of america you roll over to these borders
00:10with the vision and the fantasy and the passion that yo here i can achieve anything
00:17i ain't trying to be like everybody else i'm trying to be one-on-one
00:22that's what this is about in america we don't talk about that enough when it comes to the
00:28socialist because they're convincing folks that rather than individuals
00:38being a problem rather than lobbyists being a problem they're trying to convince you
00:44america's a problem while their asses are over here profiting from the american system
00:51and the democrats with their spineless weak feckled selves are allowing it to happen
00:59yeah they are but i don't think they have a choice at this point
01:03this is the monster that they made it's the bed they made and now they must lie in it
01:08they allowed this to fester in their party they coddled it they supported it and now it's come
01:16home to roost and i don't see a way out of it for them to be quite honest i want
01:23to talk about this
01:24video clip of dsa co-chair uh gustavo gordillo i'm probably butchering that uh because he goes
01:36on to fox and just says some of the most outrageous things and here's the most outrageous thing about
01:41this entire situation gustavo himself his family fled socialism yeah i'm not even kidding
01:51i'm not even kidding
01:56his family left their home country to come to america because socialism destroyed their country
02:04and now this guy is here in america as the democratic socialist of america socialist right
02:12forget about the democrat part this guy is here in america as the socialist co-chair
02:18trying to push the same exact thing that caused his family to leave their home country
02:23in the first place it's absolutely amazing but let's hop into this clip man because um
02:30it's ridiculous let's go democratic socialists starting to look ahead to the 2028 presidential
02:38race after victories in this year's congressional primaries their agenda includes getting rid of the
02:43united states senate letting congress choose an executive and judiciary to replace the president and
02:49the supreme court amnesty for all immigrants ending deportations defunding the department of war a
02:57wealth tax and passing a green new deal among others uh issues there that you see up on the board
03:03so with that we bring in gustavo cordillo co-chair of the new york city democratic socialists of america
03:10thank you for joining us obviously it's a really hot topic right thanks for inviting us thank you for
03:14being here we were just talking in the break we were saying hello to each other your family came here
03:18from peru um really in the middle of the heat of the shining path they were maoist communist guerrillas
03:26in peru so why did your family come to america the economic situation in south america and in peru
03:33was in a really bad place um but i think that much of uh what we could say is responsible
03:40for that
03:41actually was um the imposition of capitalism and um american imperialism in many cases is actually what
03:51brings uh immigrants um to the u.s outside uh coming out of latin america and so they come here
03:59because
03:59they don't like the imposition of american imperialism in the country that they're in
04:03yes in many in many countries so they come here in many countries uh you know there have been um
04:09undemocratic coups um that have destabilized countries that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever
04:16none he's just talking out of his his almost cursed his behind at this point okay just talking out of
04:23his
04:23butt this is just ridiculous these folks literally just make stuff up just make it up and like i said
04:32the irony of this entire conversation is the fact that his family had to flee
04:38the very thing that he's trying to bring to america his family had to leave their home country
04:45because of it and now he's in america trying to promote it crazy you you you literally can't make
04:52this up you can't make it up what in the world what is happening what and that's there we go
05:02to push people out oh well you would think they would want to go somewhere that wasn't imposing
05:05that on them if that was if that were the case but you know it's interesting because the shining
05:09path if you look at what they wanted they wanted to overthrow the democratic institutions
05:13in peru they wanted to abolish capitalism in peru and we see some of those same threads
05:19in the dsa in terms of what it stands for and one of the things is very basic you know
05:23we've
05:24just celebrated the 250th anniversary of the country and one of the most basic things um is is
05:29article one in our constitution are you in favor of abolishing article one of the constitution
05:34no you we support a democratic uh route to uh transformative change in the united states we
05:43think that we need to put the working class before the billionaire class so you don't want to abolish
05:48the senate the united states senate because that's what article one is the united states senate uh is
05:54a non-democratic institution it gives more representation to people in smaller states
06:00than to the 30 uh 30 million people in california that is literally the whole purpose but nothing
06:07this guy says makes makes any type of sense none none like listen to his rant on the senate right
06:14here
06:14to the 30 uh 30 million people in california you've got the house of representatives which is population
06:20driven and then you've got the senate so every state if you're a small state you still get two
06:24senators even though you only get maybe one congressman in order to make all of the states
06:29have fair representation so you say i'm just confused when you ask normal americans yeah if congress
06:37and the senate shifting shifting the focus our political system is working for them most people
06:43are very unhappy with the political system and they say it's not working for them when we think about
06:49the 250th anniversary of the united states and we think about our proudest moments in u.s history
06:54i think of times like when ordinary people rose up and they changed the constitution to abolish slavery
07:01to give women the right to vote everyone's proud of that and that's that that's a nationwide pride in
07:06the country but back in those moments those were considered radical movements because those people
07:11dared to say we need transformative change in the united states and we struggle to become a more perfect
07:17union but i just want to ask you again do you want to abolish the united states senate because you
07:21said you approve of article one but then you said you didn't think the senate works we think that the
07:27senate should be reformed that we should have a more democratic uh government system but that's a
07:33long-term change that we're seeking and in the short term we're focused on issues like affordability
07:39uh like freezing the rent which we've just done in new york like in creating a universal child care system
07:46which we're also taking steps toward doing uh like fixing our energy grid in 2023 here in new york we
07:52passed the build public renewables act which would create publicly owned renewable energy to have a
07:57more reliable cheaper cleaner energy grid these are our immediate term demands where we do have long
08:05term a long-term horizon where we do want to democratize our government but in the short term we're
08:10focused on affordability we're focused on a working class economic agenda how does the government become
08:15more democratized if the government takes over more of the power so for example here in new york if
08:22you have government owned grocery stores right and that that was what mom donnie promised i know you
08:29were supportive of his uh election and i um interviewed him here so they they're up like breaking ground on
08:36one grocery store so far it's going to cost 30 million dollars to build a grocery store in what world
08:41does it make sense to build a 30 million dollar grocery store and put competitive pressure on the
08:47bodegas that are in the neighborhood i think that what we saw in the mayoral campaign is uh the mayor
08:54was able to build a movement that inspired people to believe that we could have a government that works
09:00for ordinary people that is actually responsive to the working class inspiration is great but if you're
09:04the bodega owner how would you feel if the government opened a big grocery store right next to your
09:10bodega if one if one publicly owned grocery store that brings prices down in the neighborhood is enough
09:17to put someone out of business then maybe they shouldn't have been in that business in the first place
09:25interesting um let's let's play you know let's look at the big picture for a second here um and play
09:31this from marco rubio because his family came from cuba you were talking about your family coming from
09:36peru uh and and he wants nothing of of any socialist democratic socialist whatever you want to call it
09:42communist uh presence in the united states and he may be running against one of your candidates
09:46potentially in 2028 so let's take a look one of the criticisms you sometimes hear of communism for
09:55example is that it sounds good in theory but it never works in practice that's actually not true
10:02communism does not sound good in theory the world it envisions for all of us is small flat gray leveled
10:11of all exception drained of all that is good and noble in the human soul what's your response to
10:18that i would say that we are looking to when we look at to take inspiration for governments abroad
10:24we're looking at countries like norway sweden uh cities like vienna that have uh actually created
10:31affordable housing for all under socialist governments all of them have um very active
10:36capitalism happening bingo i was gonna say that that ain't socialism that ain't so
10:44that's the example that they all run to all the time as a matter of fact i think i made
10:48a video on
10:49this a couple of years ago actually where one of the government officials um like came out and said
10:57that yeah we don't have socialism i don't know why people call it so if y'all remember that let
11:03me let
11:03me know but i i i believe it was one of them countries like denmark or something he's like i
11:11don't know why people say we have we have a socialist i mean we we we pay a lot of
11:17taxes but it's not
11:18socialism you know geez i can't i can't remember but if you do let me know in the comments those
11:25countries though they have big technology investments very big companies that do well we are still
11:31operating in capitalism yeah we're trying to pass transformative reforms yeah to create an economy
11:39that will work for the working class and we've seen that happen already in history in sweden and in
11:45norway and yet in those countries um a very large portion of the economy is publicly owned uh that's
11:52what that's a system that we want to bring for example to the electricity system here in the united
11:57states we think it would be better if the government had a bigger role in operating the
12:02grid and actually most voters agree with that uh 25 of the energy generation here in new york
12:08is publicly owned yeah it's the most affordable energy well there's always been a new york power
12:13authority um in fact my grandfather served on the new york power authority many years ago um and so
12:18there is a public role i think for that but then you look at like these wind farm projects that
12:22were
12:23so uh you know blue completely uh unaffordable and they basically had to scrap all of these wind farms
12:30because they couldn't afford to build them and also because they didn't go through the environmental
12:33process to prove that they weren't going to damage the ocean those wind farms were being built by public
12:38private developers who need a profit and it's when we're giving private uh private large developers
12:46um an increasing large share for every project but don't you think that these builders have expertise
12:53and understanding of the business of it like what part of the government is really awesome at creating
13:00a very efficient well-run industry or business so tell me what can you point to anything the new
13:06power authority you named it is is such a um a well-run agency that manages uh large-scale generation
13:14in new
13:14york city our water is municipally run it's some of the best water in the country uh well those things
13:20i mean those things have been in place for decades as i just pointed out but you know the question
13:23of
13:23whether or not you want a larger role for the government is one of the big questions here let's
13:27take a look at the homeless encampment that has just sprung up um along west 45th street and this is
13:32after um mayor mom donnie is in office he doesn't want to remove any homeless people from the streets
13:37um and it's it's causing a lot of problems for the small business owners that try to have a company
13:44a
13:44business along that route um what do you think of this when you look at this squalor in new york
13:49city i think it's a huge crisis and it's been around uh since capitalists have been mayors
13:57for decades um yeah i've been here for a very long time and these things come and go mayor adams
14:04actually removed the homeless um encampments from the streets because they're not safe for the people
14:08who live there and they're not safe for the people who live around them the problem we're facing in our
14:13housing system is that we talk about tenants and we say they have to pull put uh pull themselves up
14:20by their bootstraps uh they have to be responsible financially but when we look at the landlords we
14:26don't uh we don't use those same standards uh landlords in new york have been making a 12 return
14:32on their investment for on average should they make what's fair for the landlord to make if you don't
14:38like 12 nothing absolutely nothing that's what he thinks and you're not going to get any more housing
14:46you'll have people like him trying to put it together and he ain't got a clue not a clue
14:55oh man you know it's it's like a crime to make any type of money to these folks when you're
15:01the one
15:01taking the risk right of course of course landlords deserve to make some money like they're the ones
15:08taking the risk they're the ones who put the initial investment up to to purchase the property
15:13in the first place they're the ones who have the loan in their name on the property they're the ones
15:18who have to fix up the property of something if something goes wrong
15:23so yeah they deserve to make a little bit of cash for that what's wrong with that
15:30they're complaining that 12 is not enough and we don't think that anyone should have a constitutional
15:36right to double digit returns on their investment that's why we've implemented no one should have a
15:41right to a double digit return on their investment no one has a right that's not no no one's in
15:46that
15:46that's not in the constitution but we what we see is that when we implement a rent freeze we have
15:51landlords who are crying uh that the government is going to put them out of business run a business
15:57and um they're trying to do it effectively no you know do are all landlords perfect are some
16:03landlords lousy of course they are um but i i just think that the idea that no one should make
16:09a
16:10double digit profit is the antithesis of the desire to like you can be anything you want to be in
16:16new
16:17york i i actually um and this goes to an issue of something that you mentioned you you called the
16:22police commissioner a scott of a sky and billionaire family the tish family um jessica tish and i just
16:29wanted you know she's serving the city obviously she doesn't need to work um she comes from a very
16:34successful family they were immigrants from ukraine and poland and they bought a rundown hotel in new
16:41jersey managed to turn it around managed to make a profit on it managed to make a business and they
16:45became
16:45very successful but she chooses to oversee the police code and i i did an interview the other day just
16:50in
16:50terms of defunding police um with two hero police officers who saved a woman who wanted to take her
16:56own life on the brooklyn bridge and it made me think about this issue of um well we need more
17:00mental
17:00health professionals than we do cops and we should have fewer cops um and i just want to play this
17:05quick
17:05sound bite for you and get your reaction to it yeah and they want to defund the police um you
17:12don't have
17:13the right to to make double digit profits so we're going to tax the crap out of you and there's
17:18a mass exodus out
17:19of new york because of it and i just talked about this uh the other day i don't know now
17:24all the days
17:25blend together i don't even know maybe last week it was it was recently somewhat recently where i talked
17:32about and showed you guys there's a mass exodus out of new york guess where they're going it ain't
17:38another blue state they're going to the red states and so what you have is a situation where uh new
17:45york city has lost i i want to i want to say it was like
17:51it was a high number i can't remember i can't remember the exact number but they they've lost
17:57a mass a massive amount of money right and so when you have someone like zoran mamdani and uh
18:05this dsa co-chair who want to push forward socialism and free this and free that when you're when you're
18:12losing the very people that are supposed to pay a bulk of the taxes because you're getting greedy
18:18how are you then going to pay for these programs somebody got to pay for it i know people like
18:25him
18:25tend to think that everything has got to be free and you can just create stuff out of thin air
18:29but it ain't happening i guarantee it guarantee it people aren't going to show up to work for free
18:35it's not happening good luck you know what i'm saying and that's that's your only bet is that you
18:43could get people to show up to work for free and that's not happening it ain't happening so you know
18:48honestly i i think i think um i think uh we we should we should give new york and camifornia
18:58to the leftists and tell them to leave us the f alone and then we'll we'll revisit this conversation
19:07in 10 years when new york is absolutely falling completely apart the subway system will be in
19:15shambles probably collapsing in on itself same thing with camifornia everything will be absolutely
19:22garbage you know you know what i mean poop all over the streets like it already is in san francisco
19:29i
19:29believe that is you know and then we can look back and say we told you it doesn't work it
19:35doesn't work
19:36we stepped aside us republicans the rest of the nation we stepped aside we we let all y'all have
19:44new york and camifornia and look what happened to them
19:50look what happened to them now of course you're probably gonna have some folks like uh this guy
19:56gustavo come out and say well it's republicans fault because that's all that's that's what they
20:03always do try to point the finger at somebody else instead of pointing the finger at themselves
20:07but what do y'all think about that man what do y'all think i mean the what i would
20:14really really love to
20:15do would be to send them over to europe somewhere because you know europe is is a lot further left
20:22than we are and so honestly i i've said this before but i feel like that would be the best
20:30option
20:31you know every it's it's a win-win right these leftists these socialists they get exactly what they
20:39want over in europe or at least they'll be a whole lot closer to it over in europe okay and
20:46we get what
20:47we want over here in america get the socialists the f out so we gotta deal with the nonsense we
20:53gotta
20:53worry about that stuff and we we go we're gonna flourish on our own here in america and we'll see
21:00who comes out on top you know in in 20 years i like that idea highly unlikely to ever happen
21:10or
21:10come to fruition but you know who knows so wishful thinking and if not we could we could do it
21:15on a
21:15smaller scale and do what i was talking about earlier which is give them new york and give them
21:20california leave the rest of us the f alone we won't mess with y'all and y'all don't mess
21:26with us simple
21:30i like that idea too you know because then because then
21:35you know they get to see exactly what it is that they you know claim to want and claim is
21:43so much
21:44better they get to see firsthand that it's actually horrible it's a hellhole but anyway y'all get in
21:50the comments let me know your thoughts and your opinions smack that like button and subscribe if you're
