00:00I'm worried that El Saeed can't beat Mike Rogers. That's my main concern.

00:04So for you, in a lot of ways, this is more about November than it is about August.

00:09Absolutely. I'm independent. I've got history with the Republican and the Democratic Party.

00:13But I tend to vote Democrat.

00:15But what do you say to Democrats who right now are still making up their mind about what matters most

00:20in the primary election here in Michigan?

00:23Choose the strongest candidate. And even though the Democrats have a lot of momentum, you still have to choose a

00:30person because Mike Rogers is no joke.

00:33He's a strong candidate.

00:35He sure is. And we got to talk about the Michigan primary because we have news, ladies and gentlemen.

00:45As promised yesterday, I'm going to be speaking about the Michigan primary where you had the establishment versus the communists.

00:56And who is going to come out on top was going to be big news because it's going to determine

01:03the direction of the Democrat Party, at least in the near future.

01:07And we have our answer. Take it away, CNN.

01:10CNN can now project that progressive Abdul El-Sayed has clinched, clinched Michigan's Democratic Senate primary, defeating Congresswoman Haley Stevens

01:21in what was a very bitter and contentious race.

01:24El-Sayed will advance to the midterm elections and take on Republican former congressman Mike Rogers.

01:31That's coming up in November.

01:33Voters in five states punched ballots yesterday in several key primary races across the country.

01:38We're also keeping a very close eye on races in Missouri, Kansas, Virginia, and Washington State.

01:45Let's begin this hour, though, with the major breaking news coming out of Michigan right now.

01:49CNN anchor John Berman is at the magic wall.

01:52John, walk us through the latest numbers because now CNN has made its projection.

01:58Yeah, CNN projects that Abdul El-Sayed, seen as the progressive candidate, will be the Democratic nominee for Senate in

02:04Michigan.

02:05But, man, it was close. Less than one percentage point separates him from Congresswoman Haley Stevens.

02:11The vote difference right now, less than 15,000 votes separate these two candidates.

02:17It was very close.

02:18And if we just look back over the course of the night until this moment, Abdul El-Sayed led when

02:24the polls first closed substantially.

02:25He's the light blue line.

02:27Haley Stevens is the dark blue line.

02:28But as the night went on into the morning, it got closer and closer until these lines were almost touching.

02:35But right now, we are projecting that they are wide enough apart that Abdul El-Sayed will be the winner

02:43there.

02:43As we look at this race and maybe look for signs about what it might mean in terms of strengths

02:48and weaknesses for El-Sayed as he heads to the general election against Mike Rogers in November, he did very,

02:56very well in the more educated counties.

02:59Washington County is where Ann Arbor is, University of Michigan, Wolverines.

03:03You can see he ran up the score there by more than 24 points.

03:08But right next door in Wayne County, which is the most populous county in the state, about 18 percent of

03:14the vote, it is where Detroit is, also where Dearborn is.

03:18Haley Stevens actually won.

03:20Wayne County, it has working class voters.

03:22It also has a large African-American population.

03:25If Abdul El-Sayed wants to do well, wants to win in November, he is going to have to make

03:32up ground in Wayne County with some of these voting groups where maybe he was not quite as strong in

03:38the primary.

03:39He'll need to heal some of those rifts.

03:42And one other thing I just want to point out here, again, you can see how close the margin is

03:46there, 48 percent to 47 percent roughly.

03:49There was a third candidate in this race, Mallory McMorrow, who dropped out.

03:54A number of people still voted for her, more than 60,000.

03:57You can see the share of the vote here.

03:59You can see El-Sayed, 48.5, Haley Stevens, 47.5.

04:03Others, and this is mostly Mallory McMorrow, she had 4 percent, well over the margin that separated these two candidates.

04:12Would it have made a difference if she had jumped out of the race earlier?

04:15We just don't know.

04:16One of the remaining questions.

04:17But now, of course, the issues are all surrounding what happens in the general election when Abdul El-Sayed, seen

04:24as a progressive, takes on Mike Rogers, who has secured, Wolf, the Republican nomination.

04:30Well, that leads to my point.

04:34So, as you guys heard there, the communists have won.

04:39Abdul El-Sayed has defeated the establishment candidate, Haley Stevens.

04:48I was going to say moderate, but Democrats are not moderate whatsoever.

04:52The establishment candidate by a narrow margin.

04:55Now, what's interesting about that is he was supposed to blow her out, okay?

05:01That's what a lot of these polls were showing, which also leads to another great point.

05:07These polls are terrible still, okay?

05:09Because the polls were showing that he had a comfortable lead against Haley Stevens.

05:13And as you guys saw, that's a really, really close race.

05:18Really, really close.

05:19One percent.

05:21Probably will finish closer than one percent, under one percent.

05:25Okay?

05:26But it is projected that he is going to take the win.

05:30But like I said, the communists have won.

05:35They've won.

05:36They have taken control of the Democrat Party.

05:40And so, with that being said, I don't expect to hear anything crazy from Chuck Schumer.

05:47As a matter of fact, I saw a clip from Chuck Schumer the other day talking about,

05:50Oh, well, we're a big tent party, and that's a good thing, not a bad thing.

05:54Yeah, I expect to hear the same type of stuff from Hakeem Jeffries as well, even though we know that

06:01behind the scenes, that is not the case.

06:03We know that behind the scenes, Hakeem Jeffries was contacting Bernie Sanders and telling him, like, yo, stop with this

06:10communist stuff.

06:11Stop endorsing these folks.

06:13But, here we go.

06:15Here we go.

06:16And I want to get into this poll because I've been talking about this for quite some time now, where,

06:21you know, Democrats, they kind of had it.

06:27They kind of had the win, okay?

06:30I mean, yeah, in presidential elections, Michigan has kind of flipped back and forth.

06:37But in terms of, like, the Senate, they voted Democrat for quite some time now.

06:42This is a Democrat seat.

06:44But because they allowed the communists to take over their party, that is about to change.

06:50Let's jump into it.

06:51And also putting the Republican Party in a prime position to flip Michigan's Senate seat in November.

06:58As Democrats fight over their party's direction, polling does show Republican nominee Mike Rogers has a better chance against El

07:05Syed than he would have against Haley Stevens.

07:08A Michigan survey taken before the primary showed Rogers beating El Syed by 10 percentage points in a hypothetical general

07:16election matchup, whereas against Stevens, she...

07:22The biggest warning sign for Democrats, though, came from Independence, where Rogers led El Syed by more than 27 points.

07:31Well, look, you never take anything for granted.

07:33But obviously, he's much further to the left, much farther outside of the political mainstream.

07:38I mean, you talk about the world being in chaos.

07:41Last year, during the campaign, a leaked audio from his campaign came out, Abdul El Syed, in which he was

07:46worried about commenting on the death of the Ayatollah because he didn't want to offend his supporters.

07:50Yeah, the world is in chaos, and this guy can't figure out what side of the ball he's on.

07:55And so I think Republicans look forward to running against this because there won't be a brighter line than between

08:01Abdul El Syed and Mike Rogers.

08:02The numbers also show why Michigan does remain a true battleground.

08:06Back in 2024, President Trump flipped the state back red, beating Kamala Harris by more than 80,000 votes.

08:1244,000 residents voted for third-party candidate Jill Stein, though, in protest of Harris.

08:19Exit polling showed most of those were progressive Muslim and Arab voters in areas like Dearborn.

08:27So, therein lies the problem.

08:30As you guys saw, Mike Rogers, now I don't know, did it show where that poll was from specifically?

08:38No, it doesn't say who actually conducted that poll.

08:41But it lines up with all the polls that I had seen previously as well, and I've talked about it.

08:46Mike Rogers defeats Abdul Syed, whatever his name is, comfortably, defeats him.

08:59Against Haley Stevens, he loses by the slimmest of margins.

09:04By the slimmest of margins.

09:05It's razor thin.

09:07So, honestly, it could have gone either way, but according to the polls, he loses by the slimmest of margins.

09:12Against this Abdul Syed guy, he beats him comfortably.

09:17And so, even if you want to talk about the independents, which, you know, I showed you guys that poll

09:24as well, probably about a week ago.

09:28Independents and their support of the communists.

09:31Most of them don't.

09:3380% of independents will not vote for this type of individual.

09:37And so, there, I mean, you heard her say that there's a 21-point lead, I believe it was.

09:42Because, you know, as far as independents go, I would say that it's probably bigger than that.

09:48So, yeah, they're cooked.

09:49They're cooked.

09:52And it's by their own doing.

09:54This is the monster they made.

09:57Instead of putting the monster in its place, right?

10:00The communists in their place.

10:02They chose to coddle them.

10:04And now they're about to lose because of it.

10:06Now, of course, we still got to show up and vote, of course.

10:08We still have to show up and vote.

10:10All of this means a hill of beans if we don't show up to do our part in the equation.

10:15But if things go the way that they're supposed to go, if people show up in the numbers that we're

10:20supposed to show up, we got another win.

10:25Now, that's adding a seat because this is currently a Democrat seat.

10:30So, we're padding the stats now.

10:33As well as getting rid of some rhinos like Tom Tillis and John Cornyn.

10:40Right?

10:41So, listen, this is beautiful.

10:44And Mike Rogers has already said, hey, when I get in, we're going to pass the Save America Act.

10:51So, yeah, we may not have it for 2026 midterms.

10:55But for 2028, we will.

10:58And keep in mind, we won in 2024 without the Save America Act.

11:03So, we can do it again.

11:04We can 100% do it again.

11:07All right?

11:07It's going to take a massive effort, of course.

11:10But we can still do it again.
