00:00The production of food is one of the people who can consume this food supply.
00:08This is a food surplus business for them to be able to consume food.
00:16Let's go to Negosyo.
00:30But before we jump into that, let us talk more about your business.
00:34The Philippines' first food surplus marketplace.
00:37We partner with brands to sell good food that otherwise would go to waste.
00:41If you think of a bakery, they have X amount of pastries at the end of the day.
00:45We give a second life to that.
00:47So we help sell it through something called a surprise bag.
00:50Random items, discounted 50% to 70% off, sold 24 hours in advance.
00:55So a customer comes to our website, buys a bag, and then picks it up from their store.
01:01So Inigo, what made you decide to create this kind of business or concept?
01:07Actually, it started when it was in Kochi Kaminish Royce.
01:09We were talking about a lot of farmers,
01:11that when it reaches Manila, their food is happy.
01:15So why not build something that would be a bridge to the farmers and to the Filipino consumers?
01:22We are a sustainability company, meaning these products would normally go to a landfill.
01:28They'd be thrown away.
01:29And so when they're not thrown away, that prevents CO2 emissions from going into the atmosphere.
01:35So we've basically taken some benchmarks from the EU, from the US,
01:39where each bag is roughly the equivalent of two and a half kilograms of CO2 waste
01:44prevented from going into the environment.
01:46So we help alleviate that as well while giving great food a solid experience for people.
01:54At first, sa totoo lang, it was a struggle.
01:57Kasi siyempre, it's something, it's a new concept.
01:59And Filipino, sometimes, we adapt slowly.
02:02Kaba, naninigurado tayo bago natin subukan yung mga bagay.
02:06It was hard na kumuha ng mga brands.
02:08Na siyempre, i-re-risk din nila yung brand nila.
02:11Initially, yun yung tingin nila.
02:12Pero sa totoo lang, nakatulong sila.
02:14Kasi they're able to market it well and connect themselves to sustainability.
02:19What lessons that you have learned that you would like to share or kanegosyo out there?
02:24Like any other business, minsan talaga struggle, di ba?
02:28Like it's hard to market something, a new concept.
02:32Pero once you start something, parang tuloy-tuloy siya.
02:35Like now, we get sold out very fast.
02:38As in, after 13 minutes, minsan sold out naka.
02:41So yung dating ang hirap namin to get a new business.
02:45Ayun, parang sila na yung lumalapit.
02:47Dahil parang gusto rin nila advocacy na we sustain up.
02:50Our goal is to next secure an MOA with Quezon City government.
02:56So we're in the final stages of that.
02:58And what we're trying to show is not just a surplus marketplace,
03:02but what we call surplus infrastructure.
03:03And so really proving that framework within Quezon City
03:07and then copy-pasting that to other LGUs within the country
03:11is the next step for us
03:13because we've proven that it works well for brands.
03:15Consumers love it.
03:16And now we're just bringing on more brands and businesses
03:19and expanding that criteria.
03:21Why is it important for Filipino people or Filipino family household to do business?
03:26I think a lot of Filipinos, minsan takot tayo.
03:30We think that safety is safe,
03:32pero sa totoo lang hindi.
03:34With business, it's limitless.
03:35Kapag you work hard, you work smart,
03:37you get the benefits of that.
