00:00Inside gates, good jump there from Ferez, Kunin as well trying to lean on him, but Julius Mikula on the
00:07privateer Osicca KTM, he's going to run a million miles wide and that's going to open up, that's why those
00:12inside gates are so important, but the Osicca KTM, he will emerge in second position as he drops downhill behind
00:19Ferez, Mikula going bar to bar, he celebrates the pit lane over to the side there to say I almost
00:29got a hole shot
00:30He did get a hole shot, good celebrations there for Julius Mikula, but he's now going to do the big
00:35thing now and go to work, go racing, no Matic Spelland, by the way, after that crash, he's a little
00:39bit secondhand, but Julius Mikula, great start, he's there in that outside line, he's got Kunin behind him and then
00:46Giannis Reisslis there in fourth place.
00:49Basically did exactly what Andre Adamo did, the MXGP qualifier just carried it around, as you see Ferez, try to
00:55get up the inside here, Mikula's putting up a fight, he wants to lead a lap, Julius Mikula, taking the
01:00challenge to the Spaniard, he's going bar to bar, elbow to elbow, oh, he drops it across on freshly watered
01:06track, and you know what Ferez says, okay, time to put your back in your box, Jack, get back.
01:10The track is really tricky right now, it's going to make for great racing later, but this opening lap is
01:15going to be, oh, goodness gracious.
01:20Championship leader on the opening lap, he needs to go straight on, he can't just cut across the track here,
01:27because that will be a, of course, cutting offense, so he will re-emerge here, look, hopefully he goes to
01:33the right, and he does.
01:34He's way short on that double, you have to wonder if the water was a big factor there, just spinning
01:38all the way up the face.
01:40And that's the thing, that's why you have your sides in that, but at the same time, you know, we
01:43saw how dry the track was yesterday, yeah, look at this, that was the thing, the combination there, because that's
01:49a takeoff point that he's cased, they're getting over that when it was dry, they can get over it when
01:54it was wet, but a massive mistake there for Sasha Kuhn.
01:59And a gift for Perez, who leads the race here, 40 points, the difference, of course, unless the bike is
02:06damaged and he can't finish the race, we expect Sasha Kuhn to pull his way through the field, but what
02:11position, how many points, that is going to be the big question.
02:14And Perez now, he'll get the pit board this time around, saying, Sasha, not out, but Sasha in 20th place.
02:20Yeah, yeah, and this, this is what we talked about yesterday, this is the mistake that Sasha has been able
02:25to avoid in 2026, we finally see it, rear its ugly head, now it's going to be, how damaging is
02:31it, how many points can these guys reel back in, but they, I think everybody in the MX2 field has
02:35been waiting for that type of crash from Sasha.
02:39Especially Perez, especially Kevin McClellan, who's in 8th place, especially Simon Langenfelder, who is in 4th position, all those guys
02:46fighting in around those top 3, 4 positions, but Mikola, what a great start for him.
02:53As he charges down, past pit lane, for the second time, he's got Giannis Racialis behind him, didn't have a
02:58great Grand Prix at home in Latvia, not kind of what he wanted anyway, where he was set overall.
03:03But in Italy, 10th there as well, but he has a chance to redeem himself here, but you have to
03:09go very wide to get that first of all, to be absolutely perfect on the landing, as these guys here,
03:14that's what Sasha Kuhn should have done, wasn't able to do that on that opening lap.
03:18Yeah, it's, uh, you wonder a little bit, you know, they had the siding lap, they knew how tricky and
03:24just sketchy these opening laps are going to be, so it's difficult though, you have so much adrenaline on the
03:29opening lap, oh, see, Racialis getting in the back of Mikola there, so much adrenaline, you know, it's a balancing
03:35act between trying to not push too much, but also you're at the very front, you want to take advantage
03:39of your position too.
03:41Giannis Racialis trying to put Mikola down to third, and Mikola not trying to sort of ride too defensive, he's
03:48just focused on going forward, he knows he's in a battle here, that's the only kind of defense he's put
03:52up there, could have taken him all the way to the outside, but he didn't, try and cut back here,
03:56no he won't, instead, Racialis moves him to the outside as he moves into second position.
04:02Good bright start for both Racialis and Mikola, Mikola, I tell you what, there's nothing wrong with the power and
04:06the pickup on that Osichka KTM.
04:08Yeah, and I think it's worth remembering, before the crash, Racialis was challenging Volan strongly for the lead yesterday, so
04:16he had some pace, not sure that that's going to bring him all the way up to Ferez, but he
04:20was looking really good, and then the restart really punished him.
04:22Almost folded the front there at the bottom of the hill, Mikola, he tried to cut to the inside, folded
04:26the front, managed to get it stood back up, but, and he sits there in that third position, he's three
04:31and a half seconds clear of Langenfelder, who is in fourth position, and when you think that in Trentino, Julius
04:37Mikola got fourth overall,
04:38in the Grand Prix, which was what, round five, got a 6-4 that weekend, so he's been used to
04:45running up at the sharp end, so far, anyway, Gros and Evertz, they're fifth and sixth place, Maxim Gros on
04:53that Honda Maddie racing AVF Italia machine in red, there's Evertz there in the white Husky, and there, well Husqvarna,
04:59and there is a number eight of Camden McClellan, he's in seventh place, Valerio Letta, Ben Musto, great ride for
05:05the Brit in ninth place, then we've got Carlos Racialis there behind,
05:08him, Sacha Kunin, up to 15th position, after his fall on the opening lap, on this part of the racetrack,
05:14where he failed to get over this double here, circuit drying out though,
05:20Ollie Colmer, yeah, Ollie Colmer then, going down on the four, five, six, the Chambers KTM rider, he was in
05:3115th place,
05:32just tried to get into Kunin, just to try and give him an elbow, but came off worse.
05:42I wonder if the track crew was a little nostalgic about the mud races we've had in the past, they've
05:47been aggressive with the water, which I do think will be a net positive, you see, Liam make a big
05:51mistake there, it's going to be great for the second motos, but right now, it is tricky.
05:55Yeah, well, yesterday, it was just starting to dry, and when it dries out, because the nature of the ground
05:59here is that red clay, it's very stony underneath, you get all those, what a massive marbles and boulders sitting
06:05on the top of the surface,
06:06makes it very, very difficult and unpredictable, of course, you get an element of dust there as well, when it
06:10becomes too dry, so then just lack of traction,
06:13So they've had to go to town, they've had to prepare the track, rip it, dose it, douse it with
06:17water, and this is, you've seen a massive color change of the racetrack here today, on Sunday, compared to what
06:22we had yesterday in the qualifying races.
06:24It will dry out, though, and then you'll get traction, that'll be the premium, MXGP should have it just about
06:30perfect, then they'll probably water again for race two.
06:33Yeah, I just wonder how much of a shock it was for these guys to see it, you know, even,
06:37you know, Simone said it's very similar to yesterday, but this is nothing like yesterday.
06:41Okay, so, right, how much of a surprise, you know, was, uh, was this track condition going out there?
06:47Rider in the rear of your shot, Kevin McClellan, chasing down these two riders here, Maxim Groh and Liam Evertz,
06:53Groh in another top five position, early on, just like he was in Trentino a few rounds ago, round five.
07:00Came to the team late, didn't he, because he, Mark Antoine Rossi, decided he didn't want to race anymore, so
07:06there was a space available, but it was literally in the week, leading up to that round,
07:10as McClellan takes the line away from Evertz, moves up into that sixth position, Evertz was thinking, yeah, we're all
07:17going wide and jumping in, well, tell you what, to make a pass there,
07:20you can either capitalize on a mistake down the end of the straight, or you have to be aggressive and
07:25park it up the inside, hope the guy to your right hits the brakes,
07:27that's exactly where the position that Liam Evertz was in at that moment there, as McClellan came through.
07:32Yeah, a lot of times, you know, to make a pass like that, all you need to do is understand
07:36where they want to go and beat them to that spot, right, and they have to pull out of doubling
07:41across there,
07:41I think you'll see that pass, it's what Jeffrey Hurwings had in mind yesterday during the qualifying race, he was
07:46way too late to get there, but that's what he was hoping to be able to do.
07:50Yeah, cost him a couple seconds, and that is the trade-off, isn't it, you either get it right, or
07:53you lose, maybe around two, two and a half seconds.
07:57Maxim Groh now, probably has no idea that it's Camden McClellan behind him, having had the pit board just a
08:02moment ago, saying Evertz was there lurking.
08:06McClellan, so cool getting out of that turn, nice and tight, running from right to left across the middle of
08:11the track, out of the obvious line,
08:12where those accelerating bumps are starting to appear, but look at the difference here now, those braking bumps, we never
08:17had them yesterday, into turn three, the final corner.
08:20Yeah, it's definitely going to be, and this dirt being so soft, it's going to get rougher, accordingly, it may
08:26not be as chattery, like the bumps might not be as hard, but it is going to get pretty rough.
08:32Jim Perez continues to lead, he's fastest on track as well, 154, 709, four and a half seconds clear of
08:39Yanis Raceless on that Monster Energy Yamaha,
08:41he's there in second position, Julius Mikula, another four seconds further back, Langenfelder on his own at the moment,
08:461.2 behind the rider from Czech Republic, and then we've got Groh, but Langenfelder all of a sudden coming
08:53alive,
08:53he's just set the fastest time in sector one, and here he is, battling, and goes around the outside of
08:58Mikula,
08:59so 1.2 reduced in the first sector, as Langenfelder comes alive.
09:04Yeah, he needs to capitalize, and just trying to track Sasha Kunin's progress here, he's already to 13, he's only
09:107,
09:11seconds out of 8th, so if he could climb back into the top 10, it wouldn't be as bad as,
09:16you know,
09:16necessarily that crash would have indicated.
09:18Well, fortunately for him, as he goes up the inside, Sasha Kunin on Ferrucho Zanke, and immediately goes after the
09:23next rider ahead of him,
09:24Ben Musto, on the Acer United Scaffolding Gas Gas Machine, he's a little bit loose,
09:31because he's trying to make up for that mistake, well, he already got bitten early on,
09:35so he knows it's kind of a little bit of a risk pushing this hard with these kind of slick
09:40conditions,
09:41but again, Control-Alt-Delete, he only knows one way, doesn't he?
09:45Remember, he's a goldfish sometimes, and he only knows one way, and from a racer's point of view,
09:50that's fantastic, because you know exactly what you're going to get with him.
09:54Yeah, it's great until it's not, you know, with Sasha.
09:58The upside is, I mean, he's 11th, right, so he could have just gotten a really poor start and be
10:0311th 10 minutes in.
10:05Like, that could be possible also, but yeah, to see him making big mistakes here,
10:09you know, and just wonder there for Musto, you're not going to pass the points later back and do anything
10:15with it.
10:15There's 20 minutes left in the race.
10:16I mean, I admire the aggression there, way to fight for position, but I think in this case,
10:21you're often better just locking in behind him, try to go with him.
10:24Well, Kunin set that whole thing up there, didn't he?
10:26Came out of 16, jumped long, got down the inside, Musto looked like he was going to come back,
10:31not once, but twice.
10:33Eventually, Sasha Kunin did make the pass, and Kunin now up into that 10th place,
10:37minimizing the risk in terms of championship points, because he's now going to sit on 11 points to 25 of
10:43Perez.
10:43Another positive is, we've only got, what, the 21 riders lining up this weekend.
10:47We've lost a couple, and the ride through from last, not as sort of hectic as it would have been
10:53if it had been 30 or 40 riders.
10:54Yeah, and I've been, you know, in that spot a lot, where I'm sitting in 11th,
10:58and the leaders, you know, the championship leaders coming back through from a crash
11:01or a bad start or something.
11:02I don't know, maybe it's a unique perspective I have, but I never thought of,
11:06I'm going to try to pass Jeff Emig or Ricky Carmichael back here.
11:10I was always like, what lines are they using?
11:12How can I lower my lap time by seeing what they're, so interesting kind of, you know,
11:17perspective there from him to try to attack back.
11:20Maybe that's the right thing.
11:21Maybe it is, you know, maybe I was doing it wrong, but it's interesting to see.
11:24Maxim Groh under pressure from Camden McClellan, who doubles his way up the inside,
11:29tried to show a wheel, stays tight to the inside, drifts his way through that right-hand turn, turn 15.
11:37Right, going to go the long way around here, is he?
11:39Yes, he is, and actually, Maxim Groh, going to let him have it.
11:42I thought he would try and sneak across and defend on this inside, but look how wet and greasy it
11:45is.
11:45On that inside, good fight back this though from the Frenchman.
11:48And again, here, McClellan can't afford to switch off and relax here, feet off the pegs.
11:54He has to dump the clutch, and he still loses a position to the 83.
11:58Good hard riding that from Groh in that fifth place.
12:02McClellan back in sixth for now.
12:05Good contest between those two.
12:07Yeah, yeah, yeah, and I think if I'm McClellan, you know, I'm probably really frustrated
12:11because he certainly thinks he's going to be, at the end of the race, he's going to be ahead of
12:16Maxim Groh.
12:17Oh, Groh, his bike lets go, and McClellan goes through into fifth place.
12:23Groh out of the race, tough like that because he was pushing and working really hard,
12:27keeping the rider who started this weekend third overall in the championship behind him.
12:32So he was really pushing, really challenging.
12:35Comes to no avail, he can't believe it.
12:39And that disappointment there, that's all you need to know.
12:43A picture can tell a thousand words.
12:48Groh out of the race.
12:50Yeah, it's unfortunate.
12:51He looked really good there, and kind of, you know, for McClellan, it's a godsend.
12:56Now you just don't have to deal with that situation anymore.
12:59But, yeah, I mean, that's probably the best he's looked all season there for Maxim.
13:03See how much dry it is on the part of the racetrack here now, on those take-off zones.
13:07But, yeah, that, did you see Lucas Koenig yesterday?
13:10There was a video of his triple there.
13:11Tripling, so out, and then using that ramp to triple.
13:14It's high, it's long.
13:16The only one to do it, did it on, I think it was his final lap to go cold in
13:20time practice
13:21is to give himself first pick over Jeffrey for the qualifying race.
13:24But that's a long way.
13:26You're not going to be doing that in the race, I don't think,
13:27especially as chewed up as that track gets on that part of the circuit.
13:31Right.
13:32Sasha Koenig up the inside of Carlos Racialist here.
13:35Already up to eighth.
13:39Not a charge.
13:4031 seconds down on Perez.
13:41Yeah.
13:42Your race leader.
13:42Yeah, that damage is likely done, but every single point you make up here
13:47just makes it a little bit less damaging in that first one.
13:50Got a lot of support here, though.
13:52And that there, it's not a double, is it?
13:54It's just a single onto a second one that's slightly higher.
13:58That rear wheel looks like it's locked up.
14:00I'm just going to go that way.
14:02Well, just trying to get him off the track, I think, as soon as possible.
14:05Here's your race leader, Guillem-Ferres.
14:08Just set the fastest lap again on lap seven.
14:101.54.598 was rapid yesterday in the qualifying race.
14:14Led all 13 laps.
14:18And doing the same again here.
14:20So far, another seven in the books.
14:22He really hasn't had much of a mistake through, you know,
14:27a race and a half so far this weekend.
14:30Cameron McClellan, the other triumph,
14:32all over the back of Julius Meikleer at the moment,
14:34fighting over fourth place.
14:36Oh, he went to the outside there.
14:38McClellan read it well.
14:40Cut back to the inside.
14:41McClellan now up in the fourth himself.
14:44Evans right there as well behind.
14:45He is in sixth position on the 26th.
14:48Nostan Hosfana.
14:50Still a good effort, though, isn't it?
14:52How many times do we say to riders,
14:54you know, when you get a good start,
14:55you can go and literally empty the tank
14:58for as long as you can.
15:00Go as long as you can.
15:00He might get 30 minutes in fourth or fifth place.
15:03He's only got to do two more laps.
15:05He's going to put himself massively at an advantage.
15:07Look how deep that turn is there, though.
15:09Somebody's gone through the board.
15:11He loses the position to Everts.
15:13Meikleer now sixth.
15:14Everts up to fifth.
15:16Because some riders, they sit there,
15:17and they go, well, I'll just pace it,
15:18and then they get a good start
15:19and throw away the opportunity.
15:21If you can sit there and just go, you know,
15:23qualifying lap after qualifying lap after qualifying lap,
15:26latch on to riders like McClellan,
15:27like Perez, like Langenfelder,
15:29as they come through.
15:30Go with them.
15:31All of a sudden, you find yourself as Julius Meikle.
15:33He got eight seconds over Valerio Latta.
15:35Yeah, you're 25 minutes in,
15:36and there's no one behind you anymore.
15:38You know, the rest of the race kind of takes care of itself.
15:40It's honestly the exact opposite of what Latta did yesterday.
15:44Yeah.
15:44Like, he tried to settle in on the opening laps,
15:46and he just got pushed around pretty quickly.
15:50So, McClellan, top of the hill,
15:52now coming towards us on the number eight,
15:54Triumph.
15:56Everts, Nostal Hasvana,
15:58he was in good relaxed mood this morning
15:59when I went and saw him after the warm-up session.
16:02Smiling and joking,
16:03but he obviously knows, like all of them,
16:05serious business to come.
16:07But he's right there in that fifth position at the moment.
16:11Hoping for another podium this weekend.
16:13Is Everts only got two so far.
16:14They were back-to-back, round three and four,
16:16in Switzerland, on the hard pack,
16:18and then Sardinia in the deep sand.
16:21This is Mikola getting passed by McClellan.
16:25He already read that, didn't he,
16:26that he was going to run to the outside.
16:27That was McClellan a moment ago.
16:33He moved up into fourth,
16:35and then Everts interfered
16:37because all of a sudden not looking up far enough,
16:39reading the track.
16:40Mikola just getting pushed down to six there.
16:44Replay at the start.
16:47Perez over on the right-hand side,
16:49but Mikola here looks across.
16:52The Fox hole shot line is a little bit closer
16:54to the inside here,
16:55and I think maybe,
16:56I'll tell you what, it's very tight.
16:57We'll probably get the confirmation any moment now.
17:02Sasha Kunin couldn't out-drag the triumph.
17:04You know, if Perez isn't there,
17:06Mikola's able to cut more left
17:07and easily hole shots.
17:09And this was the opening lap.
17:11Oh, look at that.
17:12Came up short.
17:13Sasha Kunin, he was in that third position.
17:17I can't decide if he almost pulled that off
17:20or it almost could have been a lot worse.
17:23I got them torn between the two options there.
17:25That's typically how it goes with Sasha anyway.
17:28Anyway, starting to look around here,
17:29Julius Mikola.
17:31With 12 and a half minutes to go.
17:34I hate it jumps like that.
17:35There's really no good answer.
17:36No.
17:37You just bury yourself into the bigger one
17:39every single lap.
17:40You can't even seat bounce it from anywhere
17:42just to try and load extra,
17:44you know, on the rear end.
17:45Although, Lucas Kunin did get very, very close.
17:49He was able to sort of land
17:50and soak up on the back right on the top.
17:53Anyway, another fastest lap on lap nine.
17:55So the track drying out all the time.
17:57Gian Perez finding traction
17:58maybe where no one else is.
17:597 tenths quicker than Giannis Raceless
18:01who's now 5.3 seconds behind him.
18:04They're the only two riders in the 54s
18:05apart from Everts
18:06that time around
18:07who also ended up just
18:08under the 1.55 mark
18:10at Everts in that fifth place.
18:15Perez with a lot of family and friends
18:16here this weekend.
18:17They've made the trip across
18:20from Spain.
18:22And actually north of here
18:23the border's only about an hour on the road,
18:25isn't it?
18:25An hour and a half,
18:26something like that
18:27to northwestern Spain.
18:29Sasha Kunin
18:30three seconds down
18:31on Valerio Latta
18:32chasing the Honda HRC rider.
18:35What do we say?
18:36Can't win a race on the first lap.
18:37You can certainly lose it.
18:39And that mistake there
18:40was testament to that
18:41on the opening lap
18:42from Sasha Kunin.
18:43Just maybe not respecting
18:44the greasy nature of the track.
18:47Probably jumped it on the side lap.
18:49Yeah.
18:50Just got unlucky,
18:51I think,
18:51more than anything else.
18:55Yeah, I guess the only silver lining here
18:57is, you know,
18:58this mistake a year ago
18:59would have been a DNF.
19:00You know,
19:01if he's able to climb back
19:02to six, seven,
19:03something like that here.
19:04Not a great moto.
19:05You give up 10 points
19:06to the two Perez,
19:07but it's not as nearly
19:09as bad as it could have been.
19:10Yeah.
19:15The boss man
19:16looking on.
19:20Emotionless as always.
19:22Hard to get a read on Claudio.
19:24Very much so.
19:25You never know
19:25what's going through his mind
19:26even when
19:27he went 1-1-1
19:28in Latvia
19:30the other week.
19:31Yeah.
19:31I've had
19:32negotiations with Claudio.
19:33Couldn't tell if he was happy,
19:34mad, angry,
19:35excited
19:37just
19:38is what it is.
19:39But you got the deal done.
19:40It did.
19:40He must have been happy.
19:41In the end,
19:42it was all good,
19:42but yes,
19:43I had no idea
19:44what was happening,
19:45you know,
19:46just,
19:46but in the end,
19:47what a great family
19:49and
19:50watching,
19:50you know,
19:51Davide,
19:51his son,
19:52start to take over
19:52the reins a little bit.
19:54Yeah.
19:54I'd be proud of these kids.
19:55Been around a long time.
19:56A long time.
19:57Has a GP race himself
19:58and then set up his team
20:00sort of in the 90s.
20:01He's had a massive roster
20:03of riders through there
20:03as well,
20:04hasn't he?
20:05Most famous,
20:06of course,
20:06being Antonio Cairoli.
20:07Prado there
20:08with four titles.
20:10We haven't missed a beat.
20:11No.
20:12And they're leading
20:13MX2 and MXGP
20:14in 2026 as well.
20:18So,
20:18with nine,
20:19just under 10 minutes,
20:20plus two to go,
20:21Perez continues to lead,
20:226.4 seconds
20:23clear of Giannis Raceless.
20:25Haven't seen too much
20:25of Giannis Raceless,
20:26actually,
20:26in that second place.
20:28Langenfelder on his own
20:29in third.
20:30Mikula being told,
20:31you can,
20:31plus five seconds,
20:32and that's plus five.
20:35over Lata.
20:36It's actually 7.2,
20:38but trying to hang on
20:40for a sixth place finish
20:41if he can,
20:41the privateer.
20:42There's Everts.
20:44He's in fifth.
20:45McClellan just ahead of him.
20:46That's only about
20:46one and a half seconds,
20:47you know,
20:47that gap between those two.
20:49So,
20:49I don't think that one
20:50is done just yet,
20:51JT.
20:51Yeah,
20:52it seems like
20:53it can be building it.
20:54You know,
20:54McClellan's been so strong
20:56as of late.
20:57He got a race win recently.
20:59I would be surprised
21:00if Everts able to go up there
21:01and get the best of him,
21:02but also at the same time,
21:04Groh was giving him
21:05everything he wanted
21:06before his engine let go.
21:07Valerio Lata here,
21:08number 18,
21:09now under attack.
21:10Didn't take long,
21:11did it,
21:11for Sasha Kunin
21:12to whittle him down
21:13and Lata pretty much
21:14doing what he kind of
21:15did yesterday.
21:16Good start
21:16and just not maybe
21:18feeling at one
21:18with the conditions.
21:19Yeah,
21:20you see Sasha just
21:21jumping to the edge
21:22of the racetrack.
21:23I think most people
21:23would be very,
21:25very nervous.
21:26Runs it up the inside,
21:27picks him off,
21:28moves into that seventh.
21:28He just doesn't
21:30register risk
21:31the way other people do.
21:32He's getting away
21:33with it a lot this year,
21:34but man,
21:35he just,
21:36I think he makes
21:37most people nervous
21:38watching him
21:38and I've asked him
21:39about that.
21:40He doesn't really
21:40know what I'm talking
21:41about.
21:42You know,
21:42no,
21:42no,
21:42I'm not even pushing.
21:45Which,
21:45who am I to question?
21:46He's the red plate holder
21:48so clearly he's in the right.
21:49Imagine if he was pushing.
21:51Yeah.
21:51Well,
21:52I think that's the scary part
21:53is if he ever gets
21:54to a point where he feels
21:54like he needs to push.
21:55I'm not sure,
21:56maybe he travels back in time.
21:57I don't know
21:58what would happen there.
22:00Perez,
22:01here.
22:03very,
22:03very comfortable
22:04at the head of the field.
22:06And when he won in France
22:07for his first Grand Prix victory,
22:08he went 1-1 that weekend.
22:10He got a couple of wins
22:11earlier on in the season
22:11and Lucia race one
22:13before he had a technical issue
22:14in race two
22:15that forced him
22:15out of the race early
22:17and forced him
22:18out of a potential
22:19home win,
22:20maybe even a podium
22:21for sure.
22:22But he's certainly
22:24making up for it.
22:24He got a win a week ago,
22:25race one.
22:26His teammate picked up
22:27the second race win
22:27in Italy,
22:28Montevacchi.
22:30here's Yannis Raceless.
22:33Looking good,
22:34looking comfortable there
22:35in that second place,
22:36finish in the moment.
22:37And Yannis Raceless,
22:39European champion,
22:40250 last year,
22:41pretty much on the podium
22:42every week.
22:43It's been good all weekend,
22:45yeah.
22:46It's a decent start
22:47to the year as well,
22:47though,
22:47to be fair,
22:48hasn't he?
22:48You know,
22:49started 42 points behind
22:50Matisse Valan
22:51this weekend.
22:52Of course,
22:53Valan didn't finish
22:53the qualifying race.
22:54Yannis Raceless
22:55picking up five points
22:57for his sixth place finish.
23:00and here he is now
23:01looking to gain
23:02another 22
23:04if he can.
23:05And for the young Latvian,
23:07hasn't had a top three
23:08finish yet this year.
23:09Will this be the first time?
23:11You have to imagine
23:12he would remain
23:13in Yamaha's plans.
23:14I know they have
23:14some changes
23:15coming there,
23:16but I can't imagine
23:17they would let this one go.
23:19He's pretty talented.
23:20Yeah,
23:20it's been documented
23:21this week,
23:22hasn't it,
23:23that there might be
23:23changes there.
23:24but here he is
23:26just getting his head down
23:26just blocking
23:27all of that noise out
23:29as he hangs on
23:30to that second place.
23:31Langenfeld is
23:31six seconds further back
23:33and these kind of races,
23:34you know,
23:34when you do get
23:35that top three finish,
23:36you get that third,
23:37you know that second's capable
23:39and it's a possibility.
23:40You're in that second place.
23:41Perez is another
23:42six and a half seconds
23:43up the track.
23:44As a rider,
23:45he can only answer
23:45the question
23:46how much more
23:46he had in the tank
23:47to go,
23:48actually,
23:48I could have pushed
23:49for the win
23:49or does he sit there
23:50and is he sitting there
23:51saying,
23:52actually,
23:53you know what,
23:54I'm top three,
23:54take the second place
23:55and let's worry about race
23:57two when we get there.
23:58Yeah,
23:58and you wonder how hard
24:00Guillaume is pushing
24:01at the front.
24:01You know,
24:02he's managing the lead.
24:02I'm sure he has
24:04Giannis marked
24:05on the racetrack
24:05as all these guys do
24:06and you manage
24:08your efforts from there
24:09but,
24:10you know,
24:11I know we're showing
24:12these other riders
24:12but I just wanted to mention
24:13the story that is
24:15Guillaume Perez.
24:15You know,
24:16there's a kid that
24:16he came over to America
24:18out of EMX.
24:18No one knew who he was.
24:20Bud's Creek gets a shot
24:21at Starry,
24:22runs in the top five
24:23most of the day
24:24and to see him
24:25from there to here,
24:27what a success story
24:29from virtually nowhere.
24:30I'm sure he's more
24:31well known over here
24:32but to be winning
24:33MX2 races
24:34is quite the career arc.
24:35I remember when he was
24:36riding 125
24:37for the RFP
24:37Spain national team
24:38on the Gas Gas
24:40or might have been KTM then
24:41but he ended up
24:43sort of winning
24:44a Grand Prix
24:44in Lommel
24:45on the 125.
24:47Then he went to 250
24:48and he was hit and miss,
24:49few injuries here and there
24:50and obviously
24:51it was kind of
24:52in that phase really.
24:53I think he'd had
24:53one eighth place finish
24:54in a race or an overall
24:56next minute
24:56he's on the plane
24:57to the U.S.
24:59Star Racing Yamaha
25:00and then Husqvarna,
25:01injuries there as well,
25:02came back to reinvent himself
25:03and he's doing a great job
25:04of doing that at the moment.
25:07Sasha just cleaning out track
25:10as they say in the U.S.,
25:11just suggestions
25:13at track markers
25:14and again,
25:15it's one of those things
25:15where I don't think
25:16he cares in the least
25:17about him just plowing
25:18through that track marker
25:19how close we would,
25:22you know,
25:22I think the average viewer
25:23would say close to disaster
25:24and he's just completely
25:25fine with it.
25:26And actually,
25:26you've been there,
25:27I've been there as well,
25:27where you get in a situation,
25:29you might have a little
25:31left-right kick
25:32or something like that,
25:33you know,
25:34and people watching,
25:35they see it
25:36and it's like,
25:36dude,
25:36that thing was past 90
25:38one way,
25:38past 90 the other way,
25:40how did you save it?
25:41And you think,
25:42I didn't even feel that,
25:43you know what I mean?
25:44Which lap are you talking about?
25:45Yeah.
25:45I had a moment.
25:47Especially when
25:49he's in fight or flight
25:50right now.
25:50This is all adrenaline
25:51going down on that first lap.
25:52It's every point
25:53that I can salvage here,
25:54so his risk ratio
25:56is way, way off the charts
25:57right now.
25:58If he was winning,
26:00had a six second lead
26:00the way Guillaume does,
26:01he probably would notice
26:02that more because,
26:03ah, maybe not push so much.
26:05Right now,
26:06it's all go.
26:07All gas,
26:07no brakes.
26:08Yeah,
26:08looking back to see
26:09what's going on over there,
26:10but here he is
26:10in seventh place.
26:11He's got Julius Meikle
26:12right there in orange
26:13ahead of him
26:13on the Osichka.
26:15KTM,
26:15very much a private team
26:17for KTM
26:18out of the Czech Republic.
26:19So you've got a Czech rider
26:20on a Czech-based team,
26:22family-like run business.
26:24And he obviously feels
26:25very much at home there,
26:26Julius Meikle.
26:26I'm sure if you said
26:27here's a factory contract
26:28for tomorrow,
26:29you'd take it.
26:29But at the moment,
26:30this is putting him
26:31on the mat,
26:32this team.
26:32Yeah, feels very JP 153 KTM
26:34to me.
26:36Both of them having
26:37similar results,
26:37both excelling.
26:39But yeah,
26:39I think it's,
26:40you know,
26:41he continues to progress
26:42the way he has.
26:43Podiums are in his future.
26:46noticed over the last few laps,
26:48Sasha Koenig has been going
26:49wide through there.
26:50So not opting for that inside,
26:53although it's still double
26:54of all.
26:55It was he,
26:55Perez and Raceless,
26:56Langenfelder,
26:56McClellan,
26:57Evertz all,
26:57you know,
26:58continuing to jump through there.
26:59But here he is,
27:01tripling downhill
27:01up into turn 14.
27:05Not scared,
27:06head down,
27:08Lata,
27:08actually Lata has latched
27:09onto him here,
27:10he's only 2.8 seconds
27:11behind him,
27:12haven't been passed
27:12maybe three or four laps
27:13ago.
27:17But Mikula,
27:19great ride for him.
27:19You can just see the pace
27:21just starting to fade now.
27:22Has emptied the tank,
27:23he's going to have to go back
27:24and regroup and sort of
27:26replenish those energy levels
27:28because race two is going
27:29to be even harder for him
27:30if he has the same sort of start
27:32and same kind of 10,
27:3415 minute push early on.
27:36Yeah.
27:36It's not hot,
27:37but you can feel it's warm.
27:38Well,
27:38he's been pushing the whole time too.
27:40You know,
27:41it's just the intensity
27:43probably a little bit higher
27:44than especially now.
27:46Like this would be the time
27:46where you'd hope to be settled in.
27:48You wouldn't have to be
27:48wasting much energy.
27:49He's got the points leader
27:51behind him.
27:51You know,
27:52he's trying to hold on to six
27:53there,
27:53which would be a big score.
27:54And you've got,
27:55you know,
27:56one of the fastest guys
27:56in the world right on your tail.
27:58And he is one of the fastest
27:59guys in the world right now,
28:00isn't he?
28:00Sasha Kunin,
28:01you know,
28:01to his credit.
28:02And you see why he's on the gas
28:04that split second earlier,
28:05breaking that little bit later,
28:07just attacking stuff
28:08with a bit more sort of energy
28:10and purpose.
28:12every step of the way.
28:14on the gas here.
28:15Takes another couple of bike lengths
28:16just in that 20,
28:1730 meter stretch.
28:19Opening up the racetrack here,
28:20he's going to push the issue here,
28:22he's going to commit to the inside.
28:23Mikula knows somebody's there,
28:25but look at this.
28:25By the time we get to turn nine,
28:26pass is already going to be executed.
28:28And that's it.
28:29Kunin in the space
28:29of about 200 meters
28:30has gone from that 7th
28:32to 6th place.
28:34And that's just work ethic
28:35all the way.
28:36And you see,
28:36just hanging off the motorcycle,
28:37there's nothing clean
28:38or efficient about that.
28:40It's just work ethic.
28:41Yeah,
28:42I think,
28:43I think Mikula thought
28:45he had a line on him there
28:46and he didn't realize
28:46that Kunin was going outside anyway.
28:48So this was the opening lap,
28:50came up short
28:50while he was behind Mikula,
28:51just spun up on takeoff,
28:53hit the takeoff point
28:54of the next rhythm.
28:56Just here,
28:57looks more severe there.
28:59Trip to the berry farm
29:00in the morning.
29:02Goes down,
29:02picked himself up
29:03in 20th,
29:03wondering what happened
29:04and then he's just
29:05bought his way
29:06through traffic.
29:07He's now in 6th,
29:08but 16 seconds behind
29:10Liam Everts
29:11with just over
29:11two laps to go.
29:14Leaders about
29:14to hit the line
29:16at the end of there.
29:17Yeah,
29:18in fact,
29:18Perez has just gone through now,
29:1915 laps complete.
29:20So it's going to be
29:20three laps from here.
29:23But talk about
29:24chalk and cheese,
29:25the styles of these two.
29:26And normally it's Perez
29:28who you see
29:28as the aggressor,
29:29attacking everything,
29:31you know,
29:31sitting down,
29:31seat mounting.
29:32But he has looked
29:33almost very
29:34Stephan Eversa's today
29:35by comparison.
29:36I don't think
29:36he has to push very hard.
29:38It's coming a bit easy
29:39for him.
29:39Yeah.
29:40So he's just able
29:41to maintain this pace.
29:42Could he drop down
29:43to a 154 right now?
29:45No problem,
29:45in my opinion.
29:46Maybe 153
29:47if you really needed to.
29:48155 is plenty
29:49and that's why
29:50it looks so easy
29:51because it truly is
29:52easy for him at the moment.
29:53And he could just
29:53continue pushing
29:54and doing another
29:5535-minute moto
29:56as it stands right now.
29:57Just like,
29:57yeah,
29:57just keep going
29:58until I run out of gas
29:59or, you know,
30:00fuel rather than
30:01physical energy.
30:03But making that
30:04look easy there,
30:05stepping on there as well.
30:06And then this final
30:07double.
30:09That drops away
30:10a lot more steeply
30:11as well,
30:11the other side.
30:12Nicely over that
30:13double,
30:13single,
30:14and then single,
30:14double,
30:15then triple.
30:16That's the rhythm
30:17through there.
30:18Up into turn 14 here.
30:20Sasha Kunin,
30:20fastest lap of the race
30:21right at the end then.
30:22Last time around
30:22on lap 15,
30:23153.668
30:25compared to a 54.199
30:28of the race leader here
30:29who hasn't really
30:30had to push.
30:31He put his fast laps in
30:32as the circuit was drying.
30:33He's opened up
30:34a six and a half second gap
30:35which is managed
30:36and managed perfectly well.
30:38Doesn't need to go set
30:39purple sectors
30:40on the timing screens now.
30:41This is Sunday cruise.
30:42I mean,
30:43you can't push much less
30:46than Firas is pushing
30:47right here.
30:48He needs,
30:49this is minimal effort
30:51and it's great.
30:52It's a great place to be.
30:53We've all been there
30:53whether it's this level
30:55or your local club race.
30:57We've all been there
30:57where you're just able
30:58to cruise the last few laps.
30:59It's a really nice feeling.
31:01And when you think
31:01of the situation with,
31:04you know,
31:04as the two lap board
31:05goes out,
31:06Italy,
31:07he won race one
31:08a week ago.
31:09Camden McClellan
31:09wins race two.
31:10Fares looking to win
31:12race one here in Portugal.
31:13That's three race wins
31:14in a row for Triumph.
31:15A team still very much
31:17in its infancy
31:18but, you know,
31:18a team that has been around
31:19for the last three,
31:20four years now.
31:22Great to see the evolution,
31:24the development
31:25with the British manufacturer
31:27new to MXGP
31:28as you said
31:29just a few years ago.
31:32And here they are.
31:33They've got podiums.
31:34They've got top steps
31:34of the podium.
31:35They're fighting
31:35for a world championship.
31:37Running second
31:39with Fares,
31:40fourth with McClellan,
31:41three points behind
31:41Langenfelder
31:42who sits third.
31:43And it's been a real
31:44fairytale for them,
31:45hasn't it?
31:46Yeah.
31:46And, you know,
31:48Fares is doing exactly
31:49everything he can possibly do.
31:51Look at Langenfelder,
31:5260 points down
31:53coming in.
31:55He's going to go back.
31:56Like we saw that crash
31:58from Sasha
31:58on the opening lap.
31:59And he's going to look up
32:00and he's only going to
32:01make up a handful of points.
32:03You know,
32:03that's,
32:05there's so much racing left.
32:06It's not heartbreaking,
32:07but it's going to be
32:08discouraging
32:08because that's the type
32:09of mistake
32:10that you see
32:10in the same section.
32:11He's able,
32:12he has enough time
32:13where he can pull out
32:13of that.
32:14But it's,
32:15those are the type
32:16of opportunities
32:17where he's hoping
32:17to make up 10,
32:1815 points
32:19and it really changed
32:20the narrative.
32:21He's under pressure
32:22here from McClellan.
32:23All of a sudden,
32:24that one mistake
32:25has cost Simon Langenfelder
32:27with a lap and a half
32:28to go,
32:29puts himself under pressure
32:30now because McClellan
32:31is the one that's
32:31in the ascendancy.
32:32He's just had his
32:33go head on right
32:34from the very first lap
32:35after a four start,
32:36one or two issues.
32:37A circuit that was
32:38pretty wet early on,
32:39maybe catching out
32:40him and a few others.
32:40But he's dug in,
32:42dug in deep as well.
32:43Here he is challenging
32:44Langenfelder for third place
32:46and the way that
32:47the body language
32:47is here between
32:48the two riders
32:49you've got to say
32:50that it's Langenfelder
32:51that's going to lose out
32:52here and get pushed
32:53back to fourth place
32:54before the flag goes out.
32:56Unless he can pick
32:57his chin up off the ground
32:59and re-engage.
33:00Yeah,
33:00he really needs to think
33:01about his line choice
33:02here.
33:03If he gives McClellan
33:03even an angle
33:04and he's pulled
33:04three tear-offs
33:05in three corners,
33:06not sure what's going on
33:07there,
33:07if there's something
33:08underneath the tear-offs
33:09or he's just trying
33:10to regroup
33:10but noticeable.
33:13And Everett's just
33:14there as well
33:15at the bottom
33:15of the hill
33:16with them.
33:16So we've got
33:17a three-way battle
33:17here for third,
33:19certainly two anyway
33:20as we go into
33:21the final lap
33:22with Langenfelder
33:22there in third
33:23on the Red Bull KTM
33:24on the number one,
33:25the defending champion,
33:26number eight,
33:26Cameron McClellan
33:27all over the back
33:27of him on that triumph.
33:29Different line
33:29through that old
33:30finish line turn.
33:31That used to be
33:32the old finish line
33:32jump there
33:33with the Visit Portugal
33:34banner across the top.
33:36But this has been
33:37a pretty decent shift
33:38as well, hasn't it,
33:39for Cameron McClellan?
33:40Started around
33:41about 10.
33:42I really picked it up.
33:43I was kind of wondering
33:44what he was doing there
33:45when he was battling
33:45with Groh and then Groh's
33:47engine let go
33:48and he's really picked it up.
33:49Like he's found
33:49some intensity
33:50since then.
33:54Trying to cut back
33:55nice and early here.
33:56Stays nice and smooth.
33:57Barely a rut
33:58on the takeoff point
33:59of that step down.
34:01This has been
34:02a good response
34:02from Simon Langenfelder
34:04but can he?
34:05Oh, I tell you what,
34:06he almost repeated
34:07what he did to Evertz
34:08earlier on in the race.
34:09Didn't work with Langenfelder.
34:10Again, he was just
34:11a bit length shy,
34:12wasn't he,
34:12to make it happen.
34:14Back marker's coming
34:15into play now though.
34:16Andrea Rossi.
34:17Up to the inside.
34:20Langenfelder able
34:21to triple down.
34:22Evertz is not done yet
34:23either.
34:24As he closes in
34:25on the South African.
34:27Evertz in fifth,
34:29McClellan fourth.
34:29The lead rider in shot
34:31here, Langenfelder in third.
34:36A good response
34:37is from the German.
34:38Can he hold on to it though?
34:39That is the question.
34:43Looking for the inside again.
34:45We saw how wet
34:45that was through there
34:46earlier on
34:47but it is just starting
34:48to dry out.
34:48Looks a little bit tentative
34:50that time around.
34:51Did McClellan.
34:51That's how he's trying
34:52to feel off the traction there.
34:54Meanwhile,
34:55Perez
34:56going to make his way
34:57downhill
34:57for the final time.
35:01doesn't get much easier
35:02than that.
35:02Guillem Perez
35:03in cruise mode
35:04as he wins race one
35:05here in Portugal.
35:07So far the perfect
35:09weekend for the Spaniard.
35:10A qualifying race winner
35:11and now a winner
35:12in race one.
35:14Raceless second.
35:15Langenfelder hangs
35:15on to third
35:16with his best lap
35:16of the race.
35:17McClellan fourth.
35:18Evertz crosses the line
35:19in fifth.
35:21Not a lot in it
35:22between the third,
35:23fourth and fifth
35:24place riders.
35:25But Guillem Perez,
35:26what a performance
35:27from him, JT.
35:28Yeah, that was
35:30that was impressive.
35:31You know,
35:31he made a comment
35:32at the French GP.
