00:59fans will be on their feet for Calvin Valanderen, coming into view now, just out of shot, on the number

01:16on for that third place, Jonas, and he's going to put it across the Frenchman there as well, through that
01:20right, top of the hill, before the long freeway down to turn 10,
01:26Koonan in his time practice, sort of mid-session interviews, saying if you get a good flow here, you're going
01:32to be fast, he anticipated a 156.45 and he got a 156.45, so he's feeling the flow, feeling
01:39the speed,
01:48So those two fighting over fourth, Vial's still there at the moment, right, this turn here, on, off, double, through
01:54the turn, nicely done on the 450, that was Vial, Herlings doing it as well, Lucas Koonan doing it,
01:59This is the final turn, Jonas to the inside in third, Vial, tried to get alongside him, so you see
02:07the difference in the splits there, Lucas Koonan here, 1.7 seconds clear he was, a moment ago, as he

02:32Lucas Koonan won the qualifying race, Geoffrey was second, Geoffrey traded the points, 1, 2, 2, 1, on Sunday, which
02:39meant overall, even though Geoffrey Hurling's won the Grand Prix, Lucas Koonan was still able to gain a point overall,
02:44so he went from 56 to 57,
02:46Normally, you'd say, 10 rounds, 56 points, 6 points around, gives you, which is what he got in Montemarque, 6
02:53points around, puts you in the boxing, in the hunt for the championship, come Australia, or even going in to
02:59China as well,
03:00but, you go the other way, 57, 58, 59, 60, by the time you've done through today, makes that battle
03:06even harder, it's like brushing water uphill.
03:09So, so strange, how he went for that gamble to the outside gate, Paul, really doesn't understand what he did
03:13there, because he had a nice pick, either side of Geisse or Koonan,
03:16I thought he would have just sat alongside them, but no, rolled the dice, and he didn't look out.
03:22Renault, Geisse, sorry, and, uh, Calvin Vellandren, it was River Fernandes just behind, so Vellandren hanging on to that fear,
03:29still,
03:30but Tim Geisse, challenging him, as we get out of that bottom turn, and up over that triple,
03:38some serious hang time there, isn't there, beautiful shot though, some great slow-mo's there earlier as well,
03:45come down with snow on them off that, it's absolutely unbelievable how high they get there.
03:49right into these waves, Vellandren, he doesn't double through the turn.
03:55They'll watch this back today, afterwards, and they'll be like, actually, there's a quick line if you can double your
04:01way through there,
04:01so, it won't be the, uh, the trick up the sleeve for the likes of the number five and the
04:05number one here, everyone will be on it tomorrow.
04:09Those two still separated by about two seconds, Lucas Koonen with the fastest lap of the race on that opening

04:14Good effort this from Calvin Vellandren, definitely riding with a little bit of adrenaline pumping through the veins this weekend.

04:56Now he gets that experience, even during the GoPro lap, they were giving him a cheer, incredible thing.

05:17Well, we've not seen a lot of Rick this year, so, uh, obviously, uh, didn't start the season, then he
05:22had his issues with his other team,
05:23and now here he is with, uh, Danbury KTM, and, uh, the number 4, who arrived here 25th in the
05:28championship, didn't join the championship till round 3, of course.
05:3115th in the qualifying race in Latvia, so, already here at elevation, it's gonna be a danger of getting a
05:36nosebleed, innit?
05:371,400 metres up, and, in ninth place, can he get his first points in the qualifying race in 2026?
05:46Double to the outside there, there's Renault, just behind level 9, 5, 9, Oliveira in 12.
05:52Line from earnings was using there, was working well in MX2, but, uh, debate about what it does here.
05:56Oh, forces his way through, but not able, didn't want to take the risk, because that's what we saw in
06:01MX2 in time practice, where Maxim Groh decided to double across there,
06:05but then, there was a rider to the outside, and he clipped, the rider went down, Groh went off track,
06:09so you've got to be careful in terms of reading that situation,
06:12where two lines may just come into one, and Hurlings does gain that ninth place from Elzingen.
06:17That is also the spot, Paul, where the sunlight is at its absolute worst, I was stood there at 4
06:21.30 yesterday, and you could not take that jump.

06:24Fevre just getting cross-rutted into turn two, lost the front end, and he just had to go straight on
06:29over a couple of other routes,
06:30that's gonna give a bit of an advantage, then, to, uh, Coonan, and that is just after Roman Fevre set
06:35the fastest lap, 55-6, a whole second he gained back, 1.9 the gap was there at the line.
06:41He's managed to still keep it, hovering at 1.9, so the gap was even closer.
06:46So, uh, Roman Fevre fancies his chances here, I think, with, uh, 13 and a half plus two to go.
06:51Yeah, another one maybe almost like, uh, the owner of the other number one plate there, getting fed up with
06:55the half-time reports, hasn't won a race yet, et cetera, et cetera,
06:57but, uh, yeah, he's pushed a little bit too hard into that corner.

10:54So, a better, er, sort of report card from the high school headmaster,
10:59if you like, this weekend, sitting there in that fourth place.

11:14so that gap going out between guys from Herlings to 6.2.

15:35so yeah, he can win after a flyaway,
15:38and yeah, nicely hopping through there,
15:39but Vlander is actually closing Vial in slightly.
15:42It was down to a second and a half,
15:43but I think Vial's gone a little bit quicker
15:44since that split last came up.

15:47and Vial put his best lap in last time around,
15:50to a 57-something or other of Vial.
15:53Steadied itself this time around, though,
15:55so that gap's still 1.4 seconds between them,
15:58but Kelvin Vial will be absolutely pumped with that.

16:04Geis has had a rough lap there,
16:05Paul, he's got it up to 2.02 that last lap,
16:07and that Honings is just three seconds shy of him.

16:56and desire just to sort of want to push every single lap.

17:04Only sort of, you know, like a British summer,
17:07around about 18 degrees.
17:09We've loved how Kooner just railed the outside lap.
17:12Just nudged it out so the wheels aren't in the bottom
17:14of it, they're hitting the rough stuff.
17:15They're just at the edge slightly.
17:16It's a beautiful technique.

17:37as you rail that turn and just prepare to drop off,
17:40at some point that berm is going to hook back around
17:43if you're not careful.
17:44You can hit that high side pretty much into the base
17:46or to the dip of the finish line jump.
17:49So riders will be mindful of that, for sure.
17:52Right, there's Walandhren.

17:55Back market behind him, splitting him and Geiser.
18:02They need a good result, don't they?
18:03I mean, they're working in the right direction.
18:05Again, we had Calvin on the studio show last week
18:07and he was saying, yeah, it was a big project,
18:09something he's never done before.
18:10We know that.
18:11But he feels they're making good gains.
18:13Moving in the right direction.
18:14You know, whether, you know, it's engine stuff,
18:16but these things take time.
18:18And here we are at home, for him.
18:22How much of this is adrenaline?
18:23You know, sort of pump in.
18:24How much of that is the bike?
18:25How much of that conditions?
18:27And obviously used to be racing at altitude,
18:29which a lot of these riders aren't.
18:30so, yeah, a lot of positives here
18:32for him, for Red Bull, for Ducati.
18:34You know, the team, sorry.
18:36Yeah, working solo at the moment
18:37with the Red Bull Ducati squad.
18:39Of course, Jeremy C were leaving the team
18:40and Andrea Bonacorsi picking up
18:42that nasty foot peg to the guts in Latvia.
18:45And, yeah, speaking to the mechanic, actually,
18:47it seems like Andrea Bonacorsi
18:49might not return as quickly as Foxhills as we hoped.
18:51So that's a shame,
18:52but Calvin is making the best for that team right now.
18:56Just saw as he landed over that uphill step
19:00and then there's just a little plume of, you know, dry dirt.
19:04As soon as it, like, the wheel had landed,
19:07it disappeared off to the side, you know,
19:09so the wind is picking up as well.
19:11I don't know whether that's been an issue
19:14at some point
19:16because from that turn there,
19:19you're thinking, right,
19:20it disappears from rider's right to left,
19:22so it's blowing across, you know,
19:23from that side of the hill
19:24to this side of the hill here.
19:27Might not be a problem
19:28because you're jumping up into the wind
19:29at that point.
19:30The on-fronted jump,
19:31maybe not so much,
19:32maybe a little bit here,
19:33but the riders are quite short
19:35so they can pretty much turn into the wind
