00:00But the job of a journalist doesn't stop there and just listening to the minister.
00:05The job of a journalist goes into finding the truth on the ground, which is what we've done in part
00:09two of today's show.
00:11We've done a reality check to try and understand how exactly will the charging infrastructure in the national capital work.
00:18Now there are two key figures to remember.
00:20If Delhi is to begun and move in its way to become fully EV in different phases, we need a
00:29massive functional and active charging ecosystem.
00:33Is that really the case?
00:35How exactly is it panning out as of now, before the policy at least?
00:40Here is a report by my colleagues Sushant Mehra and Ashutosh Mishra.
00:53Delhi wants to go electric.
00:58Backed by subsidies, tax exemptions and a promise of over 30,000 charging points.
01:04The state government's new EV policy aims to make electric vehicles the preferred choice of citizens.
01:13The goal is simple.
01:15Make owning an electric vehicle easier.
01:17And reduce pollution from transport.
01:21But in India today, ground reality check tells a very different story.
01:29Barely 50 meters from parliament, at the EV charging station near central secretariat,
01:35five of the six points are out of service.
02:05The problem isn't limited.
02:17The display is non-functional, which simply means it is non-functional, out of operation.
02:24And person who is responsible at around 12 in the noon is not here.
02:28Again, there is another one.
02:30This is for the four-wheelers.
02:32For electric charging system, you require certain setup.
02:35And this is open electric gearbox, which is very hazardous.
02:39And whether it is working?
02:41Well, I see this is one, but the cable, that's the cable.
02:46That's the cable for the electric charging, which is disconnected,
02:49which simply means this machine, the electric charging, EV charging setup, is out of function.
02:54It is not going, non-operational.
02:59At the Rajghat bus depot, just half a kilometer from the Delhi secretariat,
03:03every charger at the station was found non-functional.
03:10EV users say the chargers were installed nearly four years ago,
03:14but have remained out of service for almost a year.
03:21There are four or so people, sir, waiting for us.
03:22There are 24-4 people, sir, waiting for us.
03:23And we're pretty problems here.
03:24There's no security guard here.
03:25It's not a dealer in the car.
03:26There's a connector and a wire from the car.
03:28And the only thing is trying to get up.
03:30These are slow carriers.
03:30They are saying it has to have to go easy again.
03:32This is always a long time.
03:34This is always the one of the time.
03:35And then, you come to check, secretary of EV charging, sir.
03:38Yeah, there is the charger in the India getter,
03:40but then there is damage.
03:42There is damage in the metal and it is damage.
03:43Please notice there is damage in the aluminum and there.
03:45There is damage in the metal.
03:48The story repeats at Kashmiri Gate, where two of the three chargers were found non-functional.
04:18Experts say charging is the backbone of the EV revolution.
04:22Big promises need working infrastructure.
04:27Before building thousands of new chargers, Delhi must first fix the ones it already has.
