00:00Why are we paying taxes?
00:02For this, welcome to Delhi's open air waiting zones.
00:07No roof, just a front floor feed to a heat pane.
00:13What do you feel like?
00:14I'm going to take a 20km here.
00:19You also feel like I'm sitting here.
00:23Why are you sitting there?
00:26There's no roof here.
00:27It's a roof here.
00:28It's over 40 degrees right now,
00:31and people here are forced to stand under the open sun
00:33because the bus stop exists,
00:35but the shelter doesn't.
00:41A citizen-led audit of 231 bus stops across Delhi
00:44has revealed a troubling reality.
00:46One in every six bus stops has no shelter at all.
01:10And even when shelters exist, basic facilities are largely missing.
01:14According to the audit, less than 2% of bus stops have drinking water.
01:22CCTV coverage stands at just 3%, dustbins only 7%.
01:27Less than 4% of bus stops have panic buttons,
01:30and real-time bus information systems are almost non-existent.
01:33This directly impacts women, children, and elderly commuters who are left vulnerable while waiting.
01:51As Delhi faces repeated heatwave conditions, these gaps become even more dangerous.
02:00The Delhi heat action plan clearly states that bus stops must provide shade, water, and basic amenities.
02:07But the ground reality tells a very different story.
02:10Millions in Delhi depend on buses every single day.
02:13For them, this is not just a bus stop.
02:16It's the beginning of their journey of the day.
02:18Policies are in place, plans are approved.
02:21But implementation seems to have missed the bus.
