00:00That's right.
00:02That's where he hit it.
00:05Not the first deck.
00:07Yep.
00:07The double decker.
00:09Second deck.
00:10Uh-huh.
00:12It immediately popped in my head when he hit the home run.
00:16Of course it does.
00:17It's one of the great drops of all time.
00:20All-timer.
00:22And the inning could have been over.
00:25But Kerry Carpenter.
00:27Yeah, but it just would have started off in the second inning.
00:29Right, exactly.
00:30But you get back-to-back jacks three in the first inning for the Tigers.
00:33And they beat the Yankees.
00:34They've taken the series with the game still to go in the series.
00:37Yep.
00:38Anyway, A.J. Hinch is going to join us on the show today.
00:408.02.
00:40We'll check in with the Tiger manager and his bipolar baseball team.
00:43It's July 1st.
00:43It's a new month.
00:45And it's the final month until we get to the trade deadline.
00:50Much to discuss.
00:51Speaking of trades, we're still waiting to see what's going to happen.
00:55Yeah, I mean, it's...
00:56Trajan is showing...
00:58Extreme patience, which is great, until the dominoes start to fall.
01:07And we talked about plan A, plan B, plan C, all these things.
01:10And I'm sure that he's got all of those things mapped out in regards to, okay, Kawhi is off
01:14the table.
01:15He goes there.
01:15Now, all of a sudden, how does that shift?
01:17Or did it at all?
01:18Was he ever really a part of a possibility?
01:22Let me ask this.
01:22Are you getting impatient?
01:23I'm not getting impatient, no.
01:25Because I still like what I'm hearing from the Pistons.
01:30Like, we haven't heard from Trajan Langdon.
01:32But the reporting is, okay, yeah, they're going to match whatever Durin gets from another team.
01:39They're calling the bluff.
01:40Like, we don't think anybody is going to give Durin a max.
01:44Yes, he was third team All-NBA.
01:46That's great.
01:47Regular season.
01:48But I think everyone saw what happened in the postseason.
01:52And no one's going to pay him that much money.
01:54So the Pistons are sitting there going, hey, if you can get it, great.
01:58But we don't think you will.
01:59Yeah, between the two of us, I'm clearly the more impatient one.
02:02Mr. Millennial and his screen time.
02:04But I don't feel impatient at all right now.
02:08I continue to watch as the Durin camp spirals.
02:12We're going to go to Sacramento.
02:15The Lakers, we have a call with the Lakers.
02:17And a second meeting scheduled.
02:19How about that for some pressure?
02:21And then I see a report.
02:22Boston, he wants to play for Boston.
02:24He'd play for the Flint Tropics if they could come up with the cash.
02:26He is shaking a tin can for whatever money he can get right now.
02:31And I love that Trajan Langdon has called his bluff.
02:34And I think he's going to win this battle.
02:35I think he will ultimately as well.
02:37And if anybody's impatient, like they just, they want to know what, what the end game looks like.
02:42What's the team that we have?
02:44I can understand that.
02:45Yes.
02:45I can also understand the frustration of most people aren't just Pistons fans.
02:51Or they're not just Tigers fans or Lions fans or Wings fans.
02:55They're Detroit sports fans.
02:57And the amount of frustration that we have had for whether it's Brad Holmes, just go for it.
03:02Make that big move.
03:03Go get Max Crosby.
03:05Insert any name.
03:07We've talked about it with the Tigers.
03:09We've talked about it with Steve Iserman.
03:10It feels like ad nauseum.
03:12If there's any impatience about waiting on what Trajan Langdon's going to do,
03:16it's the cumulative effect that we have just, we're wanting one of our general managers to,
03:25they're not listening to us.
03:27They're not listening to the fans.
03:29But we want to feel like we're being heard.
03:32Just act like the professional, like the GM that we've always dreamed of having.
03:38Act like you feel this excitement and urgency as you get into title contention to win the whole effing thing.
03:48Right?
03:48That killer instinct is what we're waiting to see from one of our teams.
03:52Because they've all bubbled up above the, well, the Red Wings haven't.
03:56Everybody else has started to really progress and move towards a championship.
03:59And we want to see that level of killer instinct from one of our teams.
04:04And for Trajan, look, if he's trying to save on Durin, and he was willing to move on from Stu,
04:13there is an opportunity in front of them.
04:15And he acknowledged it.
04:17Once we pay Asar and Durin, that goes away.
04:19Well, this is the offseason where they're going to pay Asar and Durin.
04:23So this is the time to do it.
04:24So I continue to feel like they're up to something.
04:28There will be a payoff.
04:29And that he is different from the other guys.
04:32That's part of the frustration as well.
04:34And maybe it is playing out just the way that Trajan, he learned all the things he wanted to
04:41through the end of last season.
04:43Because I would assume that at the trade deadline, he knew that they needed another playmaker.
04:50They needed a second score.
04:52And it wasn't going to be Uncle T.
04:54It ultimately wasn't going to be Jalen Durin.
04:57And they needed somebody, but he told us, well, we haven't even won a playoff series.
05:03There's a lot of things that they haven't done, and I need to learn more.
05:06And if they had gone out, let me throw this scenario at you.
05:10If they had gone out and got that legitimate second score creator, but it was somebody that was a rental,
05:19what would he have really learned about Jalen Durin?
05:21Could his deficiencies have been masked, and then all of a sudden, hey, they give him a max,
05:29and that player moves on.
05:31Now all of a sudden, we learned the hard lessons.
05:33We're holding the bag.
05:34Yeah.
05:36So we're always looking for the silver lining, the blessing in disguise.
05:39We all would have loved to have seen them face the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals.
05:44But, hey, it was confirmed what we thought.
05:49The warts were there.
05:50Yeah, you're not winning a title if Durin is the second highest paid player on the team.
05:55I think the one wart that we didn't see coming was Jalen Durin in the postseason.
06:01Right.
06:01No one anticipated that.
06:03No.
06:04Not to that degree.
06:05Certainly not.
06:06And now you can act on it.
06:08So let's, I don't know, let's entertain the Boston thing for a second.
06:13Allegedly, Boston's a team he'd want to play for.
06:14Well, yeah, they're the two seed in the East, and if they're willing to pay him, of course,
06:17he'd go play for him.
06:18What does that look like?
06:19Is that where we get Jalen Brown?
06:21Where they're still shopping him, and we get Jalen Brown in Detroit?
06:24Because if so, I'm at the edge of my seat ready to jump.
06:30I mean, yes, I am as well.
06:32So that deal is what?
06:33Durin and Picks?
06:35They wanted four ones for Jalen Brown.
06:37Do we cut it in half?
06:38Jalen in two ones, and we'll figure out what we got to do.
06:40You know, with contracts, I got to throw Levert in.
06:42I don't know what I got to do.
06:43Can't we just, can't we throw in the guy that everybody wants to throw in?
06:46Ron Holland?
06:46Ron Holland.
06:47He's a part of every trade.
06:48Ron Holland, Levert, Durin, and whatever picks I need to make it happen.
06:51And Jalen Brown's an expensive player, but Jalen Brown was an MVP candidate a year ago.
06:56Yeah.
06:56He was an all-star.
06:57He was second team all-NBA, and most importantly, he's a proven finals closer.
07:02He was the finals MVP in Boston when they actually did the thing we all want to do,
07:07which is win the NBA championship.
07:08So if whatever's going on there and they can't solve it, they can't get everybody to
07:13dinner and break bread.
07:14There's just some fractures within the...
07:16I don't get it.
07:17If I'm in Boston, I'm going, Tatum, Brown, you're the best duo in the East.
07:21Yeah.
07:21There's enough shots to go around.
07:23You can each score 25 a game.
07:25You're a proven championship.
07:26But if that can't continue for whatever reason, it's fractured.
07:31I'm jumping to make that move happen to give Cade what worked for Tatum.
07:35Okay.
07:36I don't read all the papers in Boston.
07:38I don't listen to Boston radio, but I don't know that it's necessarily Brown and Tatum where
07:44this friction is.
07:45And you correct me if I'm wrong.
07:47Yeah.
07:47It feels like the friction is between the franchise and Jalen Brown because they wanted to shop
07:53him for Giannis.
07:54And now all of a sudden, his feelings have been hurt because they thought he was expendable.
08:01They could win with Tatum and Giannis, but that they can't win it all again with Tatum
08:07and Brown.
08:08So it feels like that's where the fracture has happened.
08:11And if it can't be repaired, I'd love to be the beneficiary of it.
08:14Yes.
08:14I just don't see a world where it's where Durham is a part of that trade.
08:19I don't know why if we're talking about how Duren is so desperate that he is trying to
08:24create a market for himself.
08:25I don't know why Boston would fall victim to that.
08:28No, one of the most competent franchises.
08:31They're going to say, you know, we'll overpay Duren.
08:34I mean, this is like right out of my dream as a Pistons fan.
08:36It doesn't mean it's going to be reality.
08:39No.
08:39And so it does feel like there's more of a reality.
08:42Like he's a better fit for the Lakers.
08:44Duren.
08:45Yes.
08:46Yeah.
08:46Yeah.
08:46Yeah.
08:46Not Brown.
08:47I mean, Brown fits anywhere.
08:49Plug and play.
08:50But Duren to the Lakers.
08:51I was just going to.
08:52It's 177 that the outside teams can give, right?
08:55Four years.
08:56I think the Lakers are a threat to give the 177 and it'll put the ball in Trajan's corner
09:00to match.
09:02That's probably the worst case scenario.
09:05It's the worst case scenario because I think Trajan might match.
09:07I know.
09:08Because you get nothing in return.
09:11Unless they start locked in.
09:12Unless you talk to the Lakers and say, look, we're matching unless you trade us something.
09:16The other thing to watch the Lakers, though, there are people who think they're going to
09:18go after Walker Kessler from Utah, who's also a restricted free agent.
09:23If they offer him, they can't offer Duren.
09:26Right.
09:26So that's part of Trajan's game, too, is put up.
09:29He's not the only, you know, game in town.
09:31You put out enough smoke that, oh, well, we like Duren.
09:35We'll keep him.
09:35We'll keep him going.
09:36Lakers, are you really sure this is the card you want to play?
09:38Because once you make that offer, your money's locked in until we decide.
09:41And then we can pull the chair out from under you.
09:43I wouldn't offer Duren if I were you.
09:45Go ahead and offer Kessler.
09:47And then as soon as they offer Kessler, you go to Duren and say, here's a ham sandwich.
09:50No one else can pay you.
09:51Come back.
09:52And I win.
09:53So why do the Lakers max him?
09:57Is it simply because they just, they want that guy to go with Luka Doncic?
10:02Yep.
10:03Lob threat.
10:05Help Luka.
10:05We're losing LeBron.
10:07We got to do something.
10:07We're in LA.
10:08We can't be an afterthought.
10:11I don't know.
10:12I just, I think what Trajan is doing is he's calling the bluff of every team.
10:16He's calling the bluff of Jalen Duren's camp saying, hey, everyone else watched what you
10:21did in the postseason.
10:22And I don't think anybody else is going to max you either.
10:25So if they offer you something, sure, we'll match it because it's not going to be a max.
10:30It's like Duren has seven, two off suit and Trajan knows it.
10:34Like he can see his cards and he's like, yeah, dude, like you go ahead and bluff and check
10:41raise, do whatever you're going to do with the poker table here.
10:43I know you got a losing hand.
10:45I watched you in the postseason, right?
10:46You're not everyone else.
10:47Yeah.
10:47There's no secrets.
10:48Everybody can see your seven, two off suit.
10:53It just would be interesting to see what that world looks like if they do offer them.
10:58And let's just say Trajan doesn't match it.
11:01Now you open up a host of possibilities, but the problem is it's a waiting game.
11:06And do you have enough then to go get Jayla Brown or Trey Murphy?
11:13Well, what you do in that world is while it would be unfortunate to like the asset is
11:19gone, right?
11:21Duren has some value in the league.
11:23Clearly he's gone.
11:24Now you probably are aggressively using your first round picks to go use that cap space.
11:29That would be the pivot, right?
11:30Yeah.
11:30So then the question is, who do you use that cap space on?
11:34I think the same guys were talking about Trey Murphy.
11:35I'm definitely calling about Jayla Brown.
11:36I'm making these phone calls.
11:39248-539-9797.
11:41Tech says if the Pistons trade Duren to the Flint Tropics, do we at least get a washing
11:45machine in return?
11:48You know what?
11:49We can dog on him all we want.
11:51He's still a good player.
11:52He's just not a max player.
11:55The consortium of general managers that we have in Detroit have Vaporlock.
11:58They're too afraid to make a decision, so they sit on their hands and watch others succeed.
12:02Ken in a car.
12:04It's one of my favorite bits in town is Rico's Coney's.
12:07These guys all hang out at the Coney.
12:09Don't you dare make me look bad.
12:11Don't you dare go do something bold.
12:13Yeah.
12:14I just, until we see what Trajan's going to do in this scenario, I'm not willing to put
12:20him in that category yet.
12:21Yeah.
12:21He's not at the table eating the Coney's.
12:24Yeah.
12:24He might be like out on the street.
12:25Right, yeah, so he sat on his hands.
12:28That's how we want to describe it at the trade deadline, and they were the number one seed.
12:33You could say whatever.
12:34If they had lost to Orlando, yes, they laid an egg.
12:37If injuries don't happen and they're out in the first round, sure, but this is that opportunity
12:44for Trajan to do something different.
12:47And it just feels like he is.
12:49I would argue second deck is the greatest drop of all time.
12:53A legend.
12:55Another unnamed text.
12:57The Durant stuff is there.
12:59Story continues to evolve as we wait.
13:01Finality.
13:03LeBron is a free agent.
13:04That news broke yesterday.
13:05He's not going back to the Lakers.
13:09Ultimate dad move.
13:10Getting his son paid.
13:12Yeah.
13:12Guaranteed.
13:13Waiting a day until that contract was locked in.
13:16Ultimate dad move.
13:17Ultimate dad move.
13:17Is he going to the Warriors?
13:19Going back to Cleveland?
13:20What about Detroit?
13:21And unironically, we can ask, how does this impact LeBron's legacy?
13:26It's 97-1.
