00:00all right a lot of red wing talk to open the show mixed in some lion stuff uh in the
00:0511 o'clock hour
00:06and uh here's the latest on the pistons update today by hunter patterson who covers the pistons
00:11uh for the athletic um had some interesting stuff in terms of the latest on the jayland
00:18negotiations established um website credible reporters i i thought i came into work today
00:27and i started searching around the uh the internet and i'm like okay do we probably by the time we
00:31get
00:31an update on durin what i found was a lot of panic farming from the fans and some bloggers
00:42and apparently although i couldn't find it anywhere at some point an established reporter is being
00:51cited as saying that durin is done with the pistons if he if he doesn't get a better offer
01:00that i guess he would take the qualifying offer which is 9.3 million way less than the pistons
01:08offered but if he played one year on that he can become an unrestricted free agent next year
01:16and this was this is it was going around social media and i couldn't find any verification that
01:23this has been really truly reported anywhere but panic farming does happen and it was going on in full
01:31force according to hunter patterson he writes since the athletic report on june 4th that durin was
01:38underwhelmed with the pistons initial offer durin's market is shrinking league source granted anonymity
01:45to discuss negotiations still in progress told the athletic that signing durin is detroit's number one
01:52offseason priority and the team is still confident it can come to an agreement with durin durin also has
02:00the option to accept the pistons qualifying offer of 9.6 million and becoming an unrestricted free agent
02:05next summer it would be a risky option considering durin can sign a longer more lucrative deal that
02:11would offer insurance if he were to suffer an injury at any point during the season all signs as of
02:16now
02:16point towards a stalemate ending with durin returning all signs he writes so that's different than some of
02:27the other stuff out there and i'm gonna i'm gonna believe choose to believe hunter patterson
02:33with that said does durin have any reason to really be upset with the pistons any real legitimate
02:40reason i don't think so from i mean obviously the pistons want him back they've spoken publicly about
02:49that the general manager's been on record saying yes he's part of he's part of their big three that
02:55they want to move forward with every reporting out there says the pistons want to resign him they expect
03:00to resign that they kept saying yeah we're going to resign him but i you know jaylen durin tried to
03:07bet on himself a little bit fly out of the nest for a little bit and see what was what
03:12was out there
03:13and the cruel harsh world told him nothing nothing was out there yeah you got some interviews but how'd
03:21those go i mean you came back without an offer so it's it's a little humbling i think for him
03:29to go
03:30through that um and it's it would be a major gamble for him to to really you know do the
03:36pull the max
03:37sure's or bet on himself and take the one-year qualifying offer at nine million to become a free
03:41agent next year i mean you basically entered free agency this year and the market said no so
03:49i mean if i were him i would sign a four-year extension with the pistons for whatever the four
03:54-year
03:54five-year we were talking about earlier um sign that and when that's done you're still 27 years
04:01old so it hopefully by that point you've proven to yourself in the league what kind of player you are
04:09or what you think you're going to be and then you get your money cannon free agent contract at that
04:14point or you prove yourself to be less than what you thought you were and at least you have the
04:21security of knowing that you secured yourself with a monster deal for the four-year extension
04:26that'll pay you 120 million plus i always try and figure out what's going on like okay what could
04:32have happened to lead us if he is disgruntled okay yeah i don't know if he's disgruntled if he's
04:37disgruntled and has legitimate reason to be disgruntled what would it be it would be that the pistons
04:42promised him something and then offered way less right does it was at some point did they say
04:49yeah you're gonna get you're gonna get 55 60 million and then their offer came in closer to 30
04:54did somebody in the organization tell them that that would be a reason i guess to be disgruntled
05:01i would think uh if you are
05:06if he is disgruntled is it possible that and again just in general this can happen that an agent promised
05:13a player something far more and created an expectation that was never met which again
05:20wouldn't be the pistons fault um but you know if the pistons promised him something they came in way
05:25under that that would be their fault if an agent set an expectation that wasn't realistic or met that's
05:33a whole nother thing too right i mean so look this is a um this is the kind of situation
05:40that
05:41i can see the players disappointment but from the outside looking in i think the market told you
05:50the pistons have the best offer other teams had their opportunities what you wanted nobody nobody gave
05:58it to you nobody did and i i hate to devalue durin because i think durin is an important part
06:05of this
06:05team moving forward and they seem to think so the pistons know better than anybody else what his
06:11work ethic is his commitment to success is they even know his game better i think other teams did
06:18a really good job of keeping him off his spots and taking away his angles to the basket but can
06:25he
06:25improve where that doesn't matter yeah he has to show obviously you know the message i think from
06:33the pistons sent to jalen durin is look we're paying you what you're worth right now and probably
06:37more so because the other teams didn't step up with any kind of offer for you we want you to
06:42be
06:42great for us we want you to get to have us over the barrel and we got to give him
06:47a max contract
06:47and so we can actually do it willingly to keep this intact i mean obviously there's this organization
06:55under tom gore is is one that has shown that they are not afraid to spend money they're not afraid
07:00to
07:00eat contracts if they have to they're not afraid to do the things um now what still hasn't happened
07:07yet is to see if they can go and swing a big trade at some point but we'll wait on
07:14that maybe of the
07:15trade deadline but to this point they they really do value jalen durin maybe not as much as he thinks
07:21they should but clearly more than any other team in the league does kang anything to add to this
07:27durin conversation yeah i can understand like logically if you're jalen durin you're like
07:31upset this isn't the you know the outcome that you wanted heading into you know a possible big payday
07:36but maybe you should be more upset at your representation and maybe they'd let you down
07:41on what your expectations should have been because they have to know the market what teams are available
07:45what teams have money available and what the interest is um i think the pistons and langdon have
07:52pretty much played this almost perfectly and i say almost because i i you do want durin to be happy
07:57you know i mean but publicly they've said all the right things they've said he we want you back he's
08:02part of our core even when the sign and trade was you know discussed like hey i guess he was
08:08able to
08:08go out and seek a sign and trade and talk to other teams at least they maintain the fact that
08:12they wanted
08:12durin back expected him back they will re-sign him now jalen durin's done all the work or his
08:18representation's done all the work and nothing has come of it the smart play you're right gator i
08:24completely agree take the extension now you're so young you can get another contract worst case
08:30scenario knocking wood you're not the player that you thought you were you have all this guaranteed
08:35money because the nba contracts are all guaranteed the the huge risk of just doing the qualifying offer
08:41and then heading free agency risk reward it's not worth it man if you ask me you know but player
08:47belief self-belief is something else if i was his representation i'd be like hey we went out there
08:52we tested the market this is the best deal with detroit sign the extension we'll get them next time
08:58he absolutely could could sign the uh the qualifying offer and bet on himself and then all of a sudden
09:04he
09:04he shows that he's the player in the playoffs that he is in the regular season and it's a win
09:08for him
09:08it's a huge win for him um the pistons would be willing to pay for that win as well but
09:16i'd take the money
09:17another edition how are you going to eat that at 12 35 it's carson anderson 97 one hey that
