00:00Message coming in, it's B-Ball Paul's team anyway.
00:04For those just joining us, The Athletic with a scoop on Jalen Duren,
00:08and this is interesting, his future with the Pistons in doubt as extension talks stall.
00:14The Athletic, the article by Sam Amick, goes on to detail that Duren's camp feels the gap is so large
00:22that he's considering different ways to land elsewhere, with sign and trade being his preferable outcome
00:27as opposed to having other teams offer deals on the offer sheet where the Pistons could and likely would match.
00:35Right, and there's a huge difference and a completely different feel for, hey, the Tigers and the gap between what
00:42they've offered
00:42or would be willing to pay for Scoobo and what Scoobo wants and can command, like, that's different.
00:48And we were talking about, hey, you know, the Tigers were taking some bullets on that.
00:53The Pistons on the flip side, we're ready to do high fives with Trajan Langdon for the fact that you
01:00can get,
01:01and we were just talking to Evan at the break, a 10-10 guy for half the cost of $40
01:08million a year,
01:10which then adds the opportunity to upgrade that second score or second and third score
01:15that you can go get with that added cap space.
01:19How about this text? This does not have Boston written all over it.
01:22Boston wants to upgrade at center. They're not looking to keep Jalen Brown.
01:28So it's Durin plus blank for Jalen Brown.
01:32Okay, what's the plus?
01:33I'm thrilled with that.
01:34As long as the plus isn't Cade or Asar.
01:37Okay, yeah. No.
01:40I mean, imagine that. You get Cade, Jalen Brown, Asar Thompson.
01:44I'll find a pogo stick who can rebound and catch alley-oops.
01:47Yeah.
01:48And I don't have to pay Jalen Duren.
01:50Right.
01:51This is the best Friday ever.
01:552-4-8-5-3-9-97-97.
01:58Guys, this tells me Langdon understands what it takes to get to a championship,
02:01and we're not going to just kiss the butts of all of our own players.
02:05Right.
02:07So we were excited yesterday because, hey, they had moved on from beef stew.
02:11They got a paper bag in return, but they cleared up cap space to go make a move.
02:19And now we're hearing that, hey, he's going to make a grown-up decision of, hey, the fans,
02:23there are some guys that love Jalen Duren, and Jalen Duren was all NBA,
02:27but we're not willing to sacrifice the development.
02:31And, you know, it's not draft, develop, and re-sign our own guys at the risk of not being as
02:37good
02:37as we possibly could be by going out in free agency or adding somebody in a trade.
02:43What number do you think Jalen Brown will wear in a Pistons jersey?
02:45Can I order it today?
02:482-4-8-5-3-9-97-97.
02:51Hey, guys, just thinking here, man, because this has kind of hit us a little bit out of nowhere,
02:56this one, we never get breaking news.
02:57I know.
02:58You know, is there, are they trying to work a situation to where they get some sort of big three?
03:05So the Duren sign-in trade is to get maybe the three, and then they go get a two in
03:12free agency,
03:13like the Kawhi or LeBron stuff that was talked about yesterday, or it could be the opposite,
03:18where is Duren part of a Jalen Brown package?
03:21So you're just, you're not paying Duren anymore, so then you have the room to get the three.
03:26You know what I'm saying?
03:28Yeah.
03:28Well, I think the space that they're able to generate puts all this on the table.
03:34Right now it's a matter of, okay, how do all of the pieces of the puzzle fit together
03:39with who you're going to pay and where they're going to be?
03:42Is it a number two?
03:43Is it a number three?
03:44Who's going to be your big?
03:45Yeah, there's a bunch of roles they'll have to sort out.
03:47Is there a world where you're getting, you know, a Jalen Brown, and then you're getting
03:53a Norm Powell, too?
03:55Something along, you know what I'm saying?
03:57He's opening up that door.
04:00He is.
04:02I did find one major hang-up here.
04:05Jalen Brown wears number seven, and B-Ball Paul wears number seven.
04:08Oh, no.
04:08I don't know how we would solve that conundrum, but assuming we could move past it.
04:14Yeah.
04:152-4-8-5-3-9-97-97.
04:17We do have open lines.
04:18This is kind of a stunning headline, and again, just so people understand the numbers,
04:23the NBA has a max contract, but they also have the mega max that incentivizes guys to
04:29stay with their team.
04:31The Pistons can offer Duren stupid money because he made all NBA.
04:37So my understanding, and Evan, you know hoops, too, the Pistons could offer a fifth year,
04:43and as many as $287 million, which is like $57 a year.
04:50Not going to happen.
04:51No, no, there's no world.
04:53The most other teams can offer is four years at $177, which is $44 a year.
04:59So Duren's camp is not satisfied with an offer sheet, which would be $44 million a year,
05:07and he wants the sign-and-trade so he can bridge the gap between $44 and $57 million a season.
05:13And if that's what he thinks he's worth, someone else can foot the bill.
05:18Right, now he's got to find somebody willing to do that.
05:23There's plenty of suckers and dopes in the NBA.
05:25Someone might do it.
05:27And so, like, okay, well, we're talking about Jalen Brown.
05:29Jalen Brown is right around, what, 50 a year, 52 a year?
05:33I can't remember what the exact number was.
05:35But if that's what he believes he can get in a sign-and-trade, now, okay, you're not trading Jalen
05:42Duren for Brown.
05:45No.
05:46It's not a one-for-one.
05:47No, you're adding to it.
05:48But on the flip side, they would be offering to pay Duren as much as they're paying Brown?
05:54Yeah, I don't know why Boston would do that.
05:55I just, that's where I'm confused as to who is this team that makes this work.
06:00Yeah.
06:01Evan is great at solving problems.
06:03He points out that Jalen Brown wore zero at Cal, so he can literally swap jerseys with Jalen Duren here
06:09in Detroit.
06:11This is top-notch work.
06:15Wow.
06:16That is, again, we're just trying, I'm trying to figure out who in the NBA, outside of the Pistons, is
06:22his agent talking to, to where they can use the leverage against the Pistons.
06:30Right.
06:31To make this happen.
06:32Because right now, I just feel like Trajan Langdon has all the leverage in this negotiation.
06:37Yeah, I come away with this, with the understanding that if they can get Duren at the right price, they'll
06:43keep him, they like him, they've publicly praised him, but it has to be, quote, at the right price.
06:47That's what this story tells me, is that the Pistons like him, but they're not going to do something to
06:52compromise their future by signing him to a detrimental contract.
06:56And if Duren doesn't like it, and his agent doesn't like it, they're starting to crow.
07:01Well, you find someone willing to pay the price, and if we can work out a deal, we can better
07:06our situation, too.
07:07And so, hey, not only that, hey, go get yourself a contract, go construct a trade that we would accept.
07:15Trajan Langdon could sit back and do all the work for us.
07:19Yeah.
07:20That's literally what it would take.
07:24And obviously he'll be, you know, if this, if Jalen Duren has gone to him and said, well, I'm going
07:29to, I would like to be able to negotiate with other teams to see if I can get a sign
07:33in trade, then now that opens up all the options.
07:36And Trajan Langdon, just like we did yesterday, and we took it as the ability to dream a little bit,
07:43fantasize a little bit about what they could be adding, now Trajan Langdon has that ability as well.
07:51My head's just spinning.
07:53This is interesting.
07:53They've put themselves in a position to have a hell of an offseason here now.
07:58Right, and that's what we've heard.
08:01Now, this wasn't a part of the equation when people said, hey, Detroit could be the major story of this
08:06offseason.
08:07This adds to it.
08:08Just kind of thinking out loud, the fact that they moved on from Isaiah Stewart, would you wish they would
08:17have kept him if they were going to trade Duren?
08:21Not if they are concerned about his health.
08:24Right.
08:25And it was the time, could they, is this the time to move Isaiah Stewart?
08:30Because this is when we can get the most for him.
08:33Now, nobody's going to sit there and say, well, three.
08:34I'll say the most is three seconds?
08:36A bunch of napkins on the table here?
08:38But it's the time where we can clear up the most amount of money so that we can actually go
08:44get players that contribute more than eight minutes in the postseason.
08:48But it's wild stuff.
08:51Well, it'll be interesting to see what happens because free agency opens up on Tuesday for the NBA.
08:59And is this a deal that would need to be done because other teams are going to have to organize
09:07their cap before Tuesday?
09:10Yeah, keep saying it.
09:11It's imminent.
09:12Whatever's going to happen is going to have to happen pretty soon here.
09:18I'm trying to work out the time frame in my mind to make sure I couch my level of excitement
09:24over the weekend.
09:24You don't want me to be walking around like Rieger all weekend.
09:27Yes, yes.
09:28Because more than four hours is going to be a problem.
09:30Right.
09:31And so we're trying to figure out, okay, what does Eisenman do before 7 o'clock tonight?
09:35What does Trajan do by Tuesday?
09:36By Tuesday.
09:37I mean, it could be a very active weekend in the city of Detroit.
09:43A lot of movement.
09:44And maybe Scott Harris starts shopping Tarek Skubal too.
09:47Well, he should already be doing that.
09:48Yeah.
09:49And seeing what he can get in return.
09:52But that aside, the Jalen Duren news that he wants to shop around a side and trade because the gap
10:01is so large between what Trajan Langdon and the Pistons are offering him and what he actually believes his worth
10:10is.
10:12Tex says, I actually think the Pistons may be in on this Jalen Brown stuff that you guys are talking
10:16about.
10:16The sweepstakes.
10:17Give up Duren and a couple firsts and maybe we only have Brown for two years.
10:20We get our ring and everybody's happy.
10:25I mean, the level of excitement going into next season with Cade and Jalen Brown.
10:31But, I mean, it does then go to Jalen Brown has talked about wanting out of, or at least we've
10:37heard rumor that.
10:37Friction.
10:38Well, friction, but also he doesn't want to be the sideshow.
10:42He wants to be this show.
10:43He's not going to be the show when he comes here.
10:48I don't think Cade has much of an ego.
10:50No.
10:51And is willing to share the spotlight.
10:53The spotlight.
10:54Yeah, clearly willing to share the spotlight.
10:56You'd have to have an olive branch from your franchise player to Jalen Brown.
11:00There's only one basketball.
11:02But Cade's not someone who wants to shoot 30 times a game.
11:05But there's also only one NBA champion every year.
11:07And if Brown wants another championship, Cade looking for his first.
11:12And I don't even, like, Jalen Brown got the finals MVP in Boston on a team with Tatum.
11:18Right.
11:18I mean, he's a worthy co-star.
11:21It's not like.
11:22And would be the highest paid player on Detroit's roster.
11:24Yeah, he would be.
11:25But it's not one of these things where you'd go, this guy thinks he's better than he is.
11:30I mean.
11:31No, he's pretty damn good.
11:32He's doing a pretty damn good job.
11:33Pretty damn good.
11:34Yes, he is.
11:35Okay, we're going to get to the Tigers briefly coming up next.
11:38We've got to get to draft night tonight.
11:39And a big night for Steve Iserman.
11:42During phone calls, we can take them all show long.
11:44248-539-9797.
11:46It's 97.1.
11:47241.
11:47371.
11:47371.
11:47362.
11:47341.
11:47331.
11:48373.
11:48381.
