00:44which adorns the Bruno Spengler car, the M4 DTM.
00:50So Bruno Spengler then the BMW driver that we look at there
00:55and fastest in free practice, Mike Rockenfella.
00:58And we can see that car now, the number 99.
01:01Former champion, of course, Mike Rockenfella,
01:03one of a big number of former champions in the grid.
01:06He was the man that was fastest in the final free practice session,
01:10one of the seven champions in the history of the DTM on the grid.
01:13It remains a hugely competitive championship
01:15and Mike Rockenfella, like a number of them,
01:17is going to be on duty in the Nürburgring 24 hours in a week's time.
01:20But in the second session this morning,
01:22the previous one was yesterday afternoon.
01:24It was Audi, Audi, Rockenfella from Scheider,
01:26then Max Gertz ahead of Tom Blomquist,
01:28who had been quickest in the practice session yesterday.
01:31Edo Mortara, then Jamie Green, Adrian Tombe,
01:33Danny Junkadela for eighth.
01:35And no lap time recorded at all by Gary Paffett,
01:37the car expiring on the circuit.
01:40A point I made to you whilst we were watching the free practice
01:43is that, you know, you and I wouldn't have had a euro
01:45on the fact that probably Maximilian Gertz and Junkadela
01:49would be the quickest of the two Mercedes,
01:51or the quickest two of the Mercedes brand.
01:53But free practice is always very hard to call
01:56because you never know quite what programme people are working through,
01:59trying different things.
02:00Now we're going to get a better indication of exactly who's hot,
02:03who's not.
02:04We are good to go.
02:05The session, remember, is only 20 minutes.
02:07It's everybody out at the same time.
02:09It's not like the old knockout system of a couple of years ago.
02:12So you've got to manage the traffic.
02:14You'll probably get two runs at it, granted,
02:15but we're good to go.
02:17And we've got about 30 seconds before the lights will blink to green.
02:21The other thing is, whatever everyone learns from qualifying,
02:24there's not an awful lot of time between qualifying
02:26and the race to come a little later today.
02:29No, because race one comes up towards the end of the afternoon.
02:32It's the shorter race, the 40-minute race.
02:33Plus a lap.
02:34There's Timo Scheider now getting ready to go
02:37as the new tyres go on.
02:39And Robert Wiggins,
02:42who's, of course, the other driver involved with Timo Scheider
02:45in the infamous push-em-out snooker move incident of 12 months ago.
02:49I love the way that press releases are written for manufacturers as well
02:52because Robert Wiggins is quoted as talking about that
02:54in which he talks about,
02:55my good friend, Timo Scheider.
02:57It wasn't my good friend when we were here last year, I promise you.

03:16Weather conditions are absolutely perfect here at the Red Bull Ring.
03:19As the cars make their way out of the pit lane onto the track here,
03:23this 4.3-kilometre circuit at the Red Bull Ring,
03:27which is very, very undulating, as you can see,
03:29as we look down from turn number two.
03:31The Remus turn then, as Mike Rockenfella goes through,
03:34then going through the number 22 car of Lucas Auer,
03:38Lucas Auer and Christian Pettoris,
03:40of course, wearing exactly the same paint scheme
03:42across the season of 2016.
03:46The rest of the cars are making their way out of the pit lane now
03:49to join in the fun, as it were.
03:52Martin Tomczyk, there's Nico Muller.
03:55So, at Hockenheim, you had two different pole position drivers,
03:57Nico Muller and Paul de Resta.

04:07Yes, I am a coward, but that's what's great about DTM,
04:10because, you know, if we were to take it out of free practice,
04:15you're right, you know, we don't know what loads of people were,
04:17how they were doing, what the strategy was during free practice.
04:20Very, very difficult to call.
04:21What I will say is, very, very impressive for me at Hockenheim,
04:26Paul de Resta and that Mercedes to take a P4 and a win.
04:29Yeah, and I was thinking Nico Muller had done a good job.
04:31He had a podium in race one after his pole position,
04:33because he was a little bit modest last year
04:36in his first season in the DTM,
04:38still finding his feet a little bit,
04:39but Muller got better and better as the year went on
04:41and was quick at the season opener.
04:45Tom Blomquist, of course, has won here in Formula 3 in the past.
04:47He was quick yesterday in free practice,
04:49so he's going to offer you up the benchmark tyre,
04:51assuming he stays out to the end of this lap.
04:53Others will, in some cases, go on to a flying lap.
04:57In other cases, they may well come in and cross tyres over,
05:02just do a swap.
05:03I was having a conversation with Robert Wiggins yesterday,
05:06he was saying that the track was quicker than last year for Robert,
05:11so we'll see what he can do and deliver.
05:14Robert Wiggins then.
05:17It's a different time of year.
05:18I mean, we are slightly earlier,
05:20so temperatures are a little bit cooler,
05:22but is that going to have much of an impact?
05:24It has been resurfaced,
05:25which would perhaps be part and parcel of that reason.

05:32making his way up towards the end of the lap then,
05:35so the son of world rally champion Steve Blomquist
05:39works his way out of the Red Bull mobile curve.
05:42He was a winner at Osschleben last year,

05:47Going back to Budapest over the timing line,
