00:00:02What up, y'all? Welcome in. Yeah, okay. I'm going to get ahead of this. Oh, T-Bob, didn't he
00:00:07wear that exact outfit yesterday? Well, it's a different shirt. The point is, I'm not bailing on this USA team,
00:00:13okay? And we're going to break down what happened last night against Turkey A+. We're going to talk NBA offseason
00:00:18with Kevin O'Connor. We've got Smasher Pass. We're up at the club. The Friday crew's ready to roll. Let's
00:00:24go. Plenty to get to on today's Wake Up Bustoon.
00:00:45What's happening? Welcome in, guys. Friday, Wake Up Bustoon. We've got T-Bab out here. We've got Chief Dana Beers.
00:00:51Megan making money. We're also going to go to the money corner today. Megan's going to give you another play
00:00:56to play this weekend.
00:00:58Guys, how's everyone doing here on this Friday? The weekend's here. The holiday's here. The holiday. The holiday. Fourth of
00:01:04July. Fourth of July? We're done. We're off next week. We're done.
00:01:09Oh, y'all. Yeah, okay. Yeah, yeah. That's right. No. Y'all are off. Wake Up Barstool's not off. We
00:01:14will still be here. We will be the only person. Oh, yeah. So y'all are having, like, senioritis today.
00:01:18Yeah. Yeah, well, I'm, I'm, I'm, I got two feet out the door. Oh, my God. I didn't even consider
00:01:23this, dude. I'm leaving at 9-0-1 today. Oh, man. Uh, Dana, I'm sure you're going back to the
00:01:29northeast.
00:01:30Yep, going back to the homeland to, uh, have some, wow, I look tired. Oh, you know. You're going to
00:01:35go. Come on. I'm kind of tan, though, Dana. I do look tan. I got the, uh. Egypt looking strong.
00:01:40Yeah, heading back to the homeland. Excited to watch some, uh, football in Massachusetts.
00:01:45So, like, when you go home, is it going to be, like, is everybody just going to be talking about
00:01:49Jalen Brown?
00:01:50Pretty much. And whether or not, like, you're going to, like, go out for a beer.
00:01:52Yeah, I can't wait to, I can't wait to get back to the, uh, the, the local radio station airwaves
00:01:58and see what ridiculous takes they have because they're always, for a city of champions, the local radio in Boston,
00:02:05it's, like, non-stop complaining.
00:02:08Well, I mean, you guys love to complain up in Boston. I know. I mean, that's, like, you got to
00:02:12expect that.
00:02:12They got to have takes right now flying, so I'm excited to hear it. Also, that's the, that's the glory
00:02:17of local radio. Yeah, I know.
00:02:18I'm driving in my car here in the interstate the other day. I'm listening to, like, Caleb Williams' body language
00:02:24during OTAs. I'm like, that's the good stuff right there, dude.
00:02:27That's, that's what we love about sports. Megan, what's up? You went to a World Cup game. I did. Oh,
00:02:32my God. How was it?
00:02:33It was outside of an LSU night game. That's right. At home. Uh, it was the best sporting event I've
00:02:41ever been to. Wow.
00:02:42The crowd was electric. Uh, I was telling Chief, the Uzbekistan fans, there weren't that many of them. They had
00:02:49one solid section, but it was so funny because, you know, getting in the place was tough, you know, a
00:02:53lot, a lot of tight, tight elbow room.
00:02:55They brought, like, trombones in. They were out there, like, whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop.
00:02:59Wait, so was this the, uh, this was Portugal?
00:03:01Yes.
00:03:01It was like, so, wow, so you got to see CR7 live?
00:03:05Live.
00:03:05On U.S. soil scoring goals?
00:03:07Oh, yeah, and my, probably my favorite part, we all got chills, uh, whenever he was about to come out
00:03:12of the tunnel, the camera pans to him, uh, before the walkout, and he's looking dead straight, and all of
00:03:16a sudden he just,
00:03:17his eyes cut to the camera, and he's, like, looking right into everyone's souls, and he knew what he was
00:03:23doing. He knew, he was like, you know, if, if, if Messi's gonna go do it, if, if, you know,
00:03:27if all these, if Mbappe, I'm gonna go get some today, you guys just watch.
00:03:31It's, it's, it's amazing seeing these, uh, these, these, like, gods that walk among us, mere mortals, live and in
00:03:38person, and, uh, the U.S. is trying to ascend to that level, and last night's game is, uh, it's,
00:03:46it's,
00:03:47it's a mixed bag, right? The game starts, excellent, another early goal, you're feeling really positive, then just some pretty
00:03:55awful defensive gaffs, you manage to fight back, but in minute 98, you give up the goal for Turkey A
00:04:02to exit this with three points, and it's created a weird situation, Chief, where, not just through this game, but
00:04:10with the group stage as a whole, you should be ecstatic,
00:04:13but this has maybe been a bit of a cause for consternation, but Pochettino last night after the game was
00:04:19kind of like, hold up now, like, why is everybody so upset? We won the group, all that matters now
00:04:24is what we're gonna do next Wednesday against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
00:04:27Yeah, I don't care about the result last night at all, I thought it was great that they managed to
00:04:33fight back, I liked seeing Christian Pulisic get a little bit of time, shake the rust off, uh, looked pretty
00:04:38healthy and lively.
00:04:40All those guys, for the exception of, like, what, Weston McKinney, were backups.
00:04:45Yeah.
00:04:45So, like, that back line that looked horrible for us, and we're giving up goals and chances left and right,
00:04:50we're never gonna see them again, God willing.
00:04:52So, we'll have our full starters back, we had all the red card issues, we had Tim Reams old, so
00:04:57they, or yellow card issues, rather, Tim Reams old, so they gave him the night off, everybody will be ready
00:05:02to go for Bosnia, which I believe is, what, Wednesday?
00:05:06And, uh, yeah, so it, there's no worries about, uh, last night, it's the best, uh, group stage result we've
00:05:13ever had, six points in, uh, in the group, won the group, so I'm feeling, I'm feeling just as good
00:05:18as I was, uh, at kickoff last night, so.
00:05:21Yeah, this goal by trust, he was so sick.
00:05:23By the way, if you watch yesterday's Wake Up Barstool, PFT took you in the film room, and he showed
00:05:28how on these kickoffs, the, the, the U.S. team, Pacino, adopting a coffin corner punch strategy, worked to perfection
00:05:35last night.
00:05:35Ball hits the flag, sits down there, sets the tone, sets up the corner, and then I love when trusty
00:05:41scores that he immediately takes off and celebrates with the team.
00:05:45Great.
00:05:45Like sprints at a hundred miles an hour, back to the boys, the vibes remain high, uh, look, if they're,
00:05:53hmm, I, I, I think even the fact that some people are upset today is a sign of how well
00:06:00things are going.
00:06:01Because going into this tournament, you would have thought there was no way if you were going to play an
00:06:07entire team of backups that you would have even been competitive with a Turkey team that many thought could, like,
00:06:12potentially win this group about a month ago.
00:06:14I had, I had, I had Turkey winning the group. Shockingly horrible performance by them. Uh, maybe you could argue
00:06:22that their group stage performance was the worst and most disappointing in the entire World Cup.
00:06:29Yeah.
00:06:29So, I mean, they got guys from Real Madrid, like they had, Juventus, they have big, big stars on that
00:06:35team, and they just didn't show up until last night when it was already over.
00:06:40They were already eliminated. They played their, you know, their full starters and still just barely managed to scrape by.
00:06:46Policius hit the post. He had another great chance. So, it could have easily been the United States winning that
00:06:52game.
00:06:52But look at that. That is a beautiful, beautiful thing to see. So, I, I'm thrilled with, with the result
00:06:59in this team. I'm feeling very confident heading into the knockout round.
00:07:02So, uh, let's, let's, let's wrap this up like we're in a, like a, like a manager review, right? I've
00:07:08heard a managerial technique is the Posse burger, okay?
00:07:12You, you, you, you give a positive, then you maybe give some criticism, but then you end on a positive.
00:07:18So, you're going to sandwich it between some positives.
00:07:20Um, last night, what, what stood out to y'all as something that you like seeing out of that U
00:07:24.S. team?
00:07:25I thought the set pieces looked good. I thought having our best player who got hurt in the first half,
00:07:31uh, against Paraguay missed the Australia game.
00:07:34People were like, oh, they shouldn't play him. They shouldn't play him. They gave him 30 some odd minutes at
00:07:38the end of the game.
00:07:39Yeah.
00:07:39Came in and immediately made an impact. If they want to make a little run in this, uh, knockout phase,
00:07:45number 10, our star boy is going to, uh, be leading that.
00:07:49So, it was good to see him coming in and, you know, getting these chances. And, you know, they had
00:07:53Tim Weah, uh, in that spot to start the game. And he was horrible.
00:07:57He was, he was really bad. Every day, he was offside constantly. Every time the ball touched his foot, it
00:08:02was...
00:08:02Is he a consistent minutes guy?
00:08:04Weah?
00:08:04Yeah.
00:08:05So, in the last World Cup, he was a starter. And then he's just been kind of passed and they
00:08:10kind of changed the system a little bit where they're not playing with, uh, like true out-and-out wingers.
00:08:16So, he's just kind of, he's kind of left out. But he's historically been a pretty good player for us.
00:08:22Even I was like, dude, this guy stinks!
00:08:25Yeah, that was, that was, that was one where even the layman could watch last night and just clearly see,
00:08:30okay, the ball's like dying every time he gets to this guy's foot.
00:08:34Heavy touch. Didn't have enough, uh, you know, explosiveness to get by his defender outside. And then it was like,
00:08:41whew, once Christian came in, it was night and day.
00:08:44So, uh, yeah, I think, I think we're in, we're in a great spot. We just have to have, you
00:08:49know, our best 11 on the field and we can, seems like we can at least compete with anybody right
00:08:54now.
00:08:54Do you think, uh, there's any real credence to like, you know, that momentum factor where it's like, you'd like
00:09:02to go into this round of 32 with a win?
00:09:06I, I see if it was, if they lost 3-0 or they didn't, you know, and we played our
00:09:12full team and it's like, oh, we had two really strong games to start.
00:09:16And then you kind of like, oh, this looks how it used to look like, uh, last summer.
00:09:20Then it'd be a little bit worrying. But the fact that they were able to create and then it's all
00:09:25their problems were on the back line and, or with like the attack with Weah, that's going to be solved
00:09:32as soon as Chris Richards comes back in the lineup.
00:09:35Freeman came on as a sub, but he'll start again. Uh, Reem, Jedi Robinson, another one.
00:09:41And so as, as soon as we, if, if it was our starters, it'd be like, oh, that's not how
00:09:46you want to go to the knockout round.
00:09:48But the fact that they were still able to create some chances, especially late, uh, once Clusters came on, the
00:09:53set pieces look good.
00:09:54I really don't have any worries. They also, they even played the backup goalie, uh, Matt Turner, who was our
00:09:59starter last time.
00:10:00He's a guy who, who's like a good shot stopper, but you want your goalie to be able to like
00:10:07play out from the back and start the attack.
00:10:08And he really can't do that. So we had enough positives last night and enough good moments that you can
00:10:15kind of brush away some of these defensive lapses because those guys aren't going to play.
00:10:20Okay. I think one thing too, like a positive that I guess I didn't realize as a casual fan is
00:10:24that our team is a lot deeper than I anticipated.
00:10:27Yeah. Yeah. Like historically, if we had to play all of our backups against a team as good as Turkey,
00:10:35we're getting smoked.
00:10:36Yeah. We don't, we were, it's like, I remember it was 2014. It was like, who's going to make this
00:10:43team?
00:10:43They left Landon Donovan off and they called in this 18 year old German guy, German, um, who just, he
00:10:51had a goal.
00:10:52He had a big moment, Julian green, but it was like, no one had ever heard of this guy and
00:10:57he's done nothing since.
00:10:58So the fact that we have enough depth, like you're saying to go out and put a competitive team out
00:11:05there, that's a huge step for United States soccer too.
00:11:08I mean, look at Sebastian Berhalter, a guy who was probably your best player last night. Beautiful goal, wonderful assist.
00:11:13And he's a guy who's been a sub in the first two games. So yeah. And I, you know what?
00:11:18I'm going to go full delusional optimism. I'm going to say kind of a good loss. Everybody's talking about momentum,
00:11:26but this kind of this game last night, uh, reminds you kind of not to get too high on your
00:11:32horse.
00:11:33Right. Because like the second you get comfortable, everybody from here on out is going to be of such quality
00:11:38that they can make you pay.
00:11:39And it was blinding at the speed in which those goals happened early on. Like it really drove them. Like
00:11:45you can now go in the film room. And even though, as, as chief's alluded to the main point here
00:11:50is this is all easily explained by the fact that your best players didn't play. Right. And so that's why
00:11:53you shouldn't be concerned about this, but you can still use this film as very obvious proof for pots to
00:12:00show the guys, look, you cannot let up. You cannot lose focus even for a second, because if you open
00:12:06that door, even a little bit,
00:12:07every team from here on out, they will be able to take advantage. They will be able to make you
00:12:12pay. But again, this is a U S team that I just, I love the form of the attack. The
00:12:16fact that we're consistently scoring goals. And when the best players are back in and guys like Pulisic can win
00:12:21those one-on-one battles with their displays of skill, you're going to be just fine. Cause you couldn't do
00:12:26it. I mean, every time the ball touched away his foot last night, again, he, he could not win those
00:12:31one-on-one battles that that is not going to be the case when we have our best guys back.
00:12:35Well, I'm kind of with you as far as like the full delusion, like this is a good loss, like
00:12:38USA going in knew that they just didn't have to be blown out and they, you know, they win the
00:12:42group. My thing is you go in and you play the backups and while it's not like the winning momentum,
00:12:49it's still the momentum you need to realize, Hey, like again, we set all of our best guys, we played
00:12:54our backups and we were still able to potentially almost come out with a win there.
00:12:59Yeah. And, and, and, and really should it should, I mean, you should have gotten a result, like should have
00:13:02gotten a result. You, you absolutely broke down that, that, that final possession there in the 98th minute.
00:13:07Uh, but here's what Potts had to say after the game. This is one of many quotes, kind of giving
00:13:12out the same Torton engine quote, making history is winning the world cup.
00:13:16It's not winning three matches only within the world cup. I don't really understand. It's a little petty. If you
00:13:22will, if you're thinking, uh, you're thinking a little too small, you're telling me you can make history.
00:13:27What does it mean to win three matches? If you lose the next one. And that last sentence is the
00:13:32thing to highlight.
00:13:33Bingo. And we've never won three games in a world cup in the history of the United States. So I
00:13:38think that this is, this is a real opportunity against Bosnia to get it, to get it done, to advance
00:13:44on home soil.
00:13:45And then once you win like one of these big knockout games, if you think people are on board now,
00:13:51like the whole country is going to be captivated by this.
00:13:54Cause if the way the bracket is shaping up, we have a genuine chance to make a deep run in
00:14:00the tournament. And, and we have, we actually have like the players that can do it.
00:14:05And even against Turkey last night, it's good to get, have a little bit of a different look where you
00:14:11have to be more defensive. Australia and Paraguay really are defensive teams.
00:14:15They sat in United States had to have the ball. We had to win a different way than we have
00:14:20done historically.
00:14:21Last night Turkey was a little bit more back and forth, a little bit more open. So even though it
00:14:25was our backups, it was nice to see us play a different style and, and be a little bit more
00:14:32defensive than we've had to the first two.
00:14:34Well, and that's gonna only increase from here on out, right? Like, like, like that is going to like that,
00:14:42that, that, that back and forth battle.
00:14:43Like, yes, you, you, you should be a, look, a pretty heavy favor. You see, and minus two or five
00:14:47there against Bosnia-Herzegovina, but like the next stage.
00:14:51And then eventually you're going to be getting outclassed. And, and eventually when you run up against the best in
00:14:56the tournament, if you, you get that far, it might feel even with your starters a bit like last night,
00:15:02but, but you can,
00:15:03but this is still a team that I believe can find a way to get it done. But again, everything
00:15:09now, look, you flush last night, nothing matters. All that matters is next Wednesday.
00:15:15You go and win that game and everything's all good. And if you lose that game, that's the flip side.
00:15:19I mean, that's why the World Cup is so great. The stakes are so high.
00:15:21Cause if you lose, then all that goodwill is kind of evaporated.
00:15:25But what a, what a better day to win your next game than the start of, you know, July 4th
00:15:30week.
00:15:31It's true. It's a good point, Meg.
00:15:33Why not? Why not us?
00:15:34As we celebrate our 250th birthday, you have the opportunity, not just to advance to the round of 16, but
00:15:40like Chief said, to win your third World Cup match for the first time in U.S. history.
00:15:44And I think the boys are going to get it done, dude. So let's go. We're not worried. We're not
00:15:48worried. We're going to continue to break down this match.
00:15:50It's going to be absolutely fantastic. Chief, how do you feel about them real quick on matching up with Bear?
00:15:57I think we got Bear in the bag. Like we're, we're a better team than them.
00:16:02Their best player, one of their best attacking players is from Wisconsin.
00:16:05Okay. So yeah, it is insane. So, but he looked at the United States roster.
00:16:11He was like, I'm not going to be able to play for them, but he goes to Bosnia.
00:16:14His parents are from there or whatever.
00:16:16And so it's like their, one of their better guys isn't good enough to make our team.
00:16:21So I, I think that this is a matchup that it's a good draw for us in the first round.
00:16:26It's a great draw, but you still got to win the game.
00:16:29Look at Ecuador, Germany yesterday, right?
00:16:31When your lesser team is desperate, you never know what's going to happen.
00:16:34But I believe in this U.S. team coming up next, Professor Dana Beers.
00:16:38Let's talk a little NBA. We got all seasons, winners and losers, crazy deals going down.
00:16:44And we'll break it all down next, here on FS1.
00:16:51What's happening, guys? Welcome back to Wake Up Bars.
00:16:53I hope everybody's having a great Friday, 4th of July weekend.
00:16:56The first of which coming up, it's going to be very exciting.
00:16:59But right now, no, I know next week is 4th of July.
00:17:02What I'm saying is, for many, this kind of kicks off the 4th of July festivities this weekend.
00:17:07Yeah, rolling into next week.
00:17:10Yeah, that's okay, because I'm going to be super excited next week to wake up every day here and talk
00:17:15sports.
00:17:16Solo show.
00:17:17I know.
00:17:18I think, actually, we'll see.
00:17:20We got some people still hanging around.
00:17:22All right, Dana.
00:17:23Yes.
00:17:24The NBA offseason.
00:17:26Look, the Knicks win the championship.
00:17:27It's massive news.
00:17:28We were all enraptured by it for a few weeks there.
00:17:32But now the NBA offseason has started to take center stage.
00:17:35We've had some massive deals go down, some expected, some deeply unexpected.
00:17:41And you've put together a list of early offseason winners and losers here.
00:17:44Just a couple.
00:17:45Not too many.
00:17:46But I want to start off with my winners, all right?
00:17:49Okay.
00:17:50My first winner is the Washington Wizards, okay?
00:17:55They had the number one overall pick.
00:17:56They were blessed to have number one overall pick and get Adrian DeBonta.
00:18:00But at the same time, they re-signed, or they signed Trae Young to a, I mean, kind of a
00:18:06crazy deal.
00:18:07I don't know if he deserves that much money.
00:18:08But he gets a lot of crap from the media.
00:18:12He gets a lot of crap in NBA circles.
00:18:15Because he's, he, I don't know if he's ever really made a lot of his teammates that much better.
00:18:20And he takes a lot of shots.
00:18:22But, I mean, he's better than anything the Wizards have had.
00:18:25I was going to say, context matters here, right?
00:18:29Trae Young may not be worth it to other teams.
00:18:31But in the context of who the Wizards have been and what they're trying to be next year,
00:18:36I'm okay with a little bit of an overpay as you just try to kickstart, like, any measure of success
00:18:42in Washington.
00:18:42That's right.
00:18:43And the Wizards have not had much to cheer about for a long time since pretty much John Wall and
00:18:48Bradley Beal.
00:18:48So, right now, they have a very, very solid rotation with DeBonta Young and, obviously, Anthony Davis.
00:18:56So, we'll see.
00:18:57They got some young guys that played well last year.
00:19:00So, just getting the number one overall pick and getting DeBonta, to me, is an overall massive win for the
00:19:06Wizards.
00:19:06So, I'm excited to see what they do with that core three that they have coming into the season.
00:19:11And we'll see.
00:19:12I mean, Trae Young and Anthony Davis, if Anthony Davis can just stay healthy, which is not a thing that
00:19:18ever happens.
00:19:20It's not a thing that happens.
00:19:22Oh, I have done this dance for years.
00:19:25But they could, listen.
00:19:26But when he plays, he's unbelievable.
00:19:27In the East, they have the chance to kind of, you know, creep up into that 8, 7, 6 seed,
00:19:33if all goes well.
00:19:35So, we'll see.
00:19:35It's just nice to see Wizards fans have something to root for for the first time in a long time.
00:19:40So, that's my first winner.
00:19:42Second winner.
00:19:43That's right, Chief.
00:19:44It's your Chicago Bulls.
00:19:46What?
00:19:46Love it.
00:19:47It is.
00:19:49I think they got a superstar with Caleb Wilson.
00:19:54I've watched this guy at UNC before he got hurt.
00:19:57And some of the tape, you go back and look.
00:19:59I'm willing to say he looks like KG.
00:20:01People are saying that.
00:20:02That's like the greatest compliment in the world.
00:20:04But, I mean, we'll see.
00:20:06Did you see his comment about that?
00:20:07He's like, don't compare me to Hall of Favors.
00:20:09That's disrespectful to them.
00:20:11He's like, I wanted to.
00:20:12Oh, Caleb said that.
00:20:12Caleb said that.
00:20:13I love that.
00:20:14I like that.
00:20:14That's the type of energy you need.
00:20:16He is.
00:20:16He's a high flyer.
00:20:18And if he can kind of develop more of a three-point shot, which I'm sure he will at some
00:20:23point,
00:20:23he's going to be an absolute star.
00:20:25So, I'm very happy for the Bulls to get, you know, somebody as athletic and as good of a playmaker
00:20:32as Caleb Wilson.
00:20:33Also, with the second pick they got in the first round, Swain, Dalen Swain,
00:20:37and he's a very underrated kind of like playmaker who, again, he needs to work on his three-point shot
00:20:43a little bit,
00:20:44but he still has like a nice shot.
00:20:46It's just, it kind of takes a while for him to get it up.
00:20:50It's more of a unconventional three-point shot.
00:20:53Three-point shot and add some weight.
00:20:55Yes.
00:20:55He's got to add a little bit of weight so he's not getting just shot.
00:20:58So, the Bulls, man, I'm excited.
00:21:00Matas, Giddy.
00:21:01Yeah, you guys have a very solid starting lineup, and I'm a little, like,
00:21:07I'm kind of excited, like, they could actually make some noise for once.
00:21:11Get out of that eight seed for once.
00:21:13They own the eight seed historically, and they've never had any lottery luck,
00:21:17so this year they go up, it feels like it was the right year to win the lottery or at
00:21:21least go up in the top four.
00:21:22I don't know, Bulls haven't been relevant since Rose.
00:21:25They haven't been fun since Derrick Rose, so that's, what, 12, 15 years now.
00:21:30I'm pumped.
00:21:31I might watch a Bulls game this year.
00:21:33And now you can actually, now that you live in Chicago, you can go watch these games in person.
00:21:36I've never been to the United Center.
00:21:37Exactly.
00:21:38What?
00:21:38Never, not once.
00:21:39Not to rain on y'all's parade here, but look at these odds.
00:21:45It's not about that.
00:21:46Second to worst.
00:21:46I was about the championship.
00:21:47Second to worst.
00:21:48It's about getting better over the years.
00:21:50That's okay.
00:21:51If they can just be fun, just be fun and interesting and give us a little bit of hope, I'm
00:21:56fine with that.
00:21:57They can have the second worst odds.
00:21:58I don't care.
00:21:58Do you expect them to make any splash moves from now until the season starts, or is it more just,
00:22:04let's just have this?
00:22:05Yeah.
00:22:06I mean, they're still a young team.
00:22:07Yeah.
00:22:08So, you know, now Caleb Wilson, Matas, it's like they feel like they have an interesting core.
00:22:14Yeah.
00:22:14And just be fun and interesting, and if you are in that playoff route.
00:22:18I don't like him smirking over there as if there's no faith in his own state.
00:22:22What, me?
00:22:23Yeah.
00:22:24What, what are you, what are you, what are you talking, Pelicans?
00:22:27No, no, no.
00:22:28He's just like, ah.
00:22:28You're laughing at my Bulls pick.
00:22:30No, no, no, no, no, no.
00:22:31No, I, no, I, look, I, I am pretty, it's funny because you, I was just actually during a commercial
00:22:36break complaining about how we have these bad teams that try to make decisions based on like a, can we
00:22:43win a championship with this guy?
00:22:45And that's something that I kind of vehemently reject.
00:22:48Like, to y'all's point that you were making, I don't think you can just build a space station on
00:22:52Mars.
00:22:52Like, first you have to make a space program.
00:22:55You've got to be able to build a rocket ship, then maybe the moon.
00:22:57Like, there's steps to this process, and yes, the Bulls may have second worst odds, but they're a franchise that
00:23:03feels like it's moving in the right direction.
00:23:05That's right.
00:23:05And that's a good feeling.
00:23:07That's kind of why I don't really understand exactly what the Hornets did here, but, but we can, we can
00:23:12maybe get there a bit later, because who's your, who's your losers thus far?
00:23:15My number one loser of the offseason so far is the Milwaukee Bucks.
00:23:19I mean, it was just, it's been, what, over a year now they've been talking about Giannis getting traded, and
00:23:26they send him, and they get this, just, this group of kind of, just.
00:23:33It's like spare parts.
00:23:34I almost just, I almost swore.
00:23:36I almost said the S-H word.
00:23:38Oh, shoot.
00:23:39Bunch of crap.
00:23:39They got a bunch of crap back.
00:23:41I mean, they got some decent players, but nothing that's going to, you know, take them to anywhere they want
00:23:47to go in the next five years.
00:23:49So, I mean, to, to have this Giannis conversation, and you would think you would be able to get some
00:23:54type of all-star.
00:23:56I mean, Tyler Harrow's made one all-star, but he's not like, he's not the guy that's going to take
00:24:01you to really any.
00:24:02No, I mean, they might, they might even, I mean, who knows if they even end up carrying him, or
00:24:07if they end up trying to turn him into more future resources.
00:24:11Yeah, so I think they kind of got a, I think they could have gotten a way bigger package in
00:24:15return than what they did get, so.
00:24:18Is this another way the Thunder ruined the NBA?
00:24:20How so?
00:24:21Where they just trade for a million futures, and then you hope it works out?
00:24:24Probably, yeah.
00:24:25Yeah.
00:24:25Yeah, I mean, Sam Presley's a genius, so I, I, I don't want to say no, but I don't know.
00:24:31It's just, it, the Bucs, they got their championship with Giannis, so they can't be too mad, but I, I
00:24:37just think he's, he's a top five player in the league.
00:24:40You can get a lot better return than what they did, so that's my number one loser.
00:24:43Do the Heat have enough around him to be good?
00:24:46No, they're going to be the sixth seed.
00:24:48I've really enjoyed all the memes of Giannis to the Heat, where they've, like, put, like, wicks and, like, golds
00:24:52in his mouth.
00:24:53Right.
00:24:53I'm like, yeah, I've been really enjoying those.
00:24:55If one person on the Heat, one important player on the Heat gets hurt, they're screwed.
00:25:00Who would you, who would you, if you were Miami, who would you look to add?
00:25:03Like, like, what is the Bam Giannis competition?
00:25:05They need a shooter.
00:25:06They need a shooter.
00:25:07They need a, they need somebody who can light it up from three, and I don't really know who's available
00:25:12right now.
00:25:12I mean, Malik Beasley was, was great on the Pistons a couple years ago, but he kind of ran into
00:25:18some issues with, with gambling and stuff, so we'll see.
00:25:21But, I mean, they need some shooting.
00:25:23They, they are strictly a paint team right now.
00:25:26You know who, you're talking about the biggest loser, and somebody on the Bucs that I keep thinking about, we
00:25:29haven't mentioned, um, Miles Turner.
00:25:33Yeah.
00:25:34Right, a couple years ago, playing in the NBA Finals on the edge of a championship, he gets the big
00:25:39deal.
00:25:39It's like, hey, I'm going to go play with Giannis.
00:25:41It's like, you know, man, okay, I'll still be competitive, and now he's just going to be.
00:25:45But he loves Legos.
00:25:46Oh, he's a big Legos guy.
00:25:48The Lego guy.
00:25:48Okay, there we go.
00:25:49Respect.
00:25:49We love to see that.
00:25:50Um, and my second loser, and it hurts me to say this, obviously, it's the Boston Celtics.
00:25:56Oh, no.
00:25:58This whole, it's just a charade at this point, and a lot of people can turn to, you know, I
00:26:05know a lot of the, the, the, the sports pundits are going to say,
00:26:07oh, he, he, Jalen Brown's just focused on, on his streams now, and that's, that's the reason they want to
00:26:14get, like, I don't care about his streams.
00:26:16I don't care about what he says on his streams.
00:26:17As long as he plays, like, the NBA Finals MVP he was two years ago, which he has elevated since
00:26:23then, that's all that matters to me.
00:26:25I don't think that's the reason that they've been trying to trade him.
00:26:28I just think that Brad Stevens is always trying to get better and always trying to gain an edge.
00:26:32But the reason that they are the loser is now because, I mean, if, think about it, if you're in
00:26:38the workplace,
00:26:39and there's all these rumors about you getting sent somewhere else.
00:26:42Yeah.
00:26:43It's an uncomfortable feeling, no matter what, and he's been in a lot of trade rumors, but this is obviously
00:26:49the most intense,
00:26:50and, like, you're hearing from Brian Windhorst that they need to trade him, and that, like, that is their goal,
00:26:56and that's their plan.
00:26:57If you're walking into work and that's what's going on, there's going to be an extremely uncomfortable feeling, no matter
00:27:02what.
00:27:03So, to me, we have chemistry.
00:27:06The team has had chemistry for 10-plus years now, and it feels like a lot of that is going
00:27:13out the window, and for what?
00:27:15Is it even going to get traded?
00:27:16It is kind of insane how sometimes stories can take on, like, an inertia of their own, and they almost
00:27:26can't be stopped.
00:27:27And you can even trace this back, like, if the Celtics were just flat-out bad this year, they would
00:27:34almost ironically maybe be in a better spot.
00:27:37Yeah.
00:27:37Because they'd be thinking, okay, no, look, we get Tatum back, we still got Brown, we'll be good again, we'll
00:27:41be, like, championship union.
00:27:41The fact that Brown was so good created this sort of awkwardness where then it's like, okay, well, maybe he
00:27:48wants to be the man.
00:27:49Then you try to extend for Giannis, so you put him out there, and now you're sitting there saying, oh,
00:27:54no, we're not actually trying to trade him, as they're still fielding a ton of calls.
00:27:58Definitely actively trying to trade him.
00:27:59So it was a series of unfortunate events and kind of almost paradoxical events in terms of success leading to
00:28:09this that now it just feels like this relationship's broken, and you have to move Brown.
00:28:13It's bizarre.
00:28:14Go ahead, Chief.
00:28:15I got a stupid question.
00:28:16How do you get better trading that guy?
00:28:17How does that make you better?
00:28:19I guess maybe if you could get, like, someone similar to him.
00:28:25That doesn't make any sense.
00:28:27Yeah.
00:28:27I don't know.
00:28:28Is it a big?
00:28:29Is it, like, a big, like, in space or, like?
00:28:31I try to, you know, compare it to the Celtics of the early 2010s when they sent.
00:28:38It's tough as a fan when your fan favorites get sent out the window.
00:28:42Like, Paul Pierce, KG were sent to the Nets.
00:28:45But what did we get in that trade?
00:28:46We got the picks that ended up being Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown.
00:28:49So maybe Brad Stevens is trying to do something like that where it's like, okay, we've had this guy for
00:28:5410 years.
00:28:55He has given us a lot.
00:28:56He's gotten us a championship, but let's set ourselves up for five years down the road.
00:29:01I don't know.
00:29:02I don't know what goes on in Brad Stevens' head, that he's a smart guy.
00:29:05But KG and Pierce were at the end anyway.
00:29:08I know.
00:29:09It feels like they have a runway with this group.
00:29:11They won a championship just a couple years ago.
00:29:14Well, no.
00:29:15I feel like this is a perfect opportunity to play that Hornets video, but I'm getting told that we have
00:29:20to go to break.
00:29:21So we'll be back.
00:29:21More Wake Up Bars to other time.
00:29:23It's time for Smash or Pass Soccer Kit World Cup Edition.
00:29:29Put some of the best kits up against one another.
00:29:31Which one we choose?
00:29:31And don't go anywhere.
00:29:32If you want to get involved, hashtag AskWub on Twitter.
00:29:35We'll get to it at the end of today's show.
00:29:42What up?
00:29:43Welcome back.
00:29:44Wake Up Bars still okay?
00:29:45It's time for Smash or Pass.
00:29:47It's Friday.
00:29:47We do it every Friday, but this is going to be a little bit different.
00:29:50World Cup Kit Edition.
00:29:52We're going to put some of our favorite soccer kits against one another.
00:29:55We've got to choose a winner.
00:29:56They're going to advance, and we're going to emerge with the overall best uniforms in the entire tournament.
00:30:03All right, guys.
00:30:04Which matchup are we squaring up with first?
00:30:06Should we start in Mexico, Paraguay?
00:30:07There we go.
00:30:08I'm going to start at the top.
00:30:09I'm going to go Mexico.
00:30:10I like the classic looking uniform.
00:30:13Yeah, I like those colors a lot.
00:30:15Yeah, they go well together.
00:30:16Mexico, and they always have a little Aztec design kind of snuck in there.
00:30:21Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:30:22Like the subtly different shading green underneath.
00:30:26See, the other uniforms to me look like a travel team, like a young kids team.
00:30:31I don't like that.
00:30:31Yeah, very Savannah Bananas coated, like they'd be in that league.
00:30:34Now, look, this is a clean sweep.
00:30:35This is a 16-1 seed.
00:30:37Mexico's greens win this one easily.
00:30:40El tree.
00:30:40Smash.
00:30:41Mexico advances.
00:30:42Yes.
00:30:43All right, what's our next matchup here?
00:30:47Okay, we got Brazil's home unis against the Korean away kits.
00:30:53This better be a clean sweep, too.
00:30:54I like Brazil.
00:30:56Brazil.
00:30:57I feel like the other ones remind me of like a TCU alternate jersey or something.
00:31:04I kind of love them.
00:31:05I kind of love them.
00:31:06I kind of love the Korean ones, too.
00:31:08I love them.
00:31:08I'm trying to separate myself, Chief, from like the history of Brazil.
00:31:12Like if I just saw these two uniforms in a vacuum, where would I go?
00:31:18Yellow and green are like they play so well off of each other, and also, you know, Brazilians
00:31:23tend to be tan, and those are great colors on tan skin.
00:31:26Yeah, true.
00:31:26This is one of the ones where you turn on the TV, you instantly know it's Brazil.
00:31:31Yeah.
00:31:31It's Samba soccer.
00:31:32It's the absolute best.
00:31:34I love the Brazil kit.
00:31:35It has to be Brazil, similar to Mexico.
00:31:38And it's also like, yeah, is Alabama's jersey great?
00:31:41Maybe not, but it's Alabama.
00:31:44Like it's like there is something to the history of it.
00:31:47You throw a ponytail on this dude, and you put him in like a youth league.
00:31:51I'm seeing like a girl playing soccer.
00:31:53I kind of.
00:31:54Okay, Dana, where are you voting?
00:31:55Where are you voting?
00:31:56I'm going strictly off aesthetics and getting rid of anything history related.
00:32:00I'm going with purple.
00:32:01Okay, okay.
00:32:03I'll go Brazil.
00:32:03I just didn't want it to be a clean sweep there.
00:32:05Like I think Brazil should win this, but I do want to credit Korea for having the courage
00:32:12to create this uniform.
00:32:14It's like a different color than you would normally see.
00:32:17It's pleasant.
00:32:18But yeah, Brazil's going to advance.
00:32:19I also, I wouldn't know that that was like Korea's uniform.
00:32:22No, no idea.
00:32:22I would have no idea whatsoever.
00:32:24And it's the World Cup.
00:32:25That's fair.
00:32:26That's all fair.
00:32:27But look, Brazil won, guys.
00:32:28Okay?
00:32:29Just give it credit.
00:32:30I thought they were kind of nice.
00:32:31All right, coming up next, this is the Senegal home.
00:32:35Like kind of all whites with some confetti cake mixed in, but I imagine, you know.
00:32:40You know the answer.
00:32:41Biases may come in here.
00:32:43Yeah, for sure.
00:32:43The U.S. home kits.
00:32:45Yeah.
00:32:45Those are sick.
00:32:46But again.
00:32:47I don't hate them.
00:32:48Like all the other ones I've seen so far, it's been like, I have to go the other one.
00:32:51I don't mind this one.
00:32:52However, I'm going to take U.S.
00:32:54The United States has not always had the best looking jerseys in the World Cup.
00:32:57They nailed it this year.
00:32:58I love that jersey.
00:32:59I will say the other day I saw PFT wearing one and it reminded me of like a Where's Waldo
00:33:04-esque.
00:33:05Yeah.
00:33:05Well, PFT's also got the worst one because he has the jersey where they left space for the number, but
00:33:12he doesn't have a number.
00:33:13Like they have the other ones where it's fully filled in.
00:33:16And he has the most knockoff.
00:33:18No, I mean, look.
00:33:19If this was like the U.S. Popsicle ones from the few World Cups ago, I would choose Cinegall here.
00:33:26But this one's actually great.
00:33:27U.S. Homes advances.
00:33:29All right.
00:33:30What do we got next?
00:33:32Oh, yeah.
00:33:34Oh, yeah.
00:33:35Here.
00:33:35Oh, man.
00:33:36This is a matchup of Titans here.
00:33:38The Netherlands Orange, another classic that you immediately know where you're looking at.
00:33:42But I cannot get enough.
00:33:44Now, I like Norway's home kits as well.
00:33:45But these away kits, all black, Nordic, runic riding as Erlen Holland's biking ass is running you down, hunched over
00:33:55and scoring goals.
00:33:56No, this is Norway.
00:33:57I'm going to have to go all blacks, too.
00:33:58I think like black uniforms, like whenever you're like in high school, whenever you play a team that, you know,
00:34:03has the all black uniforms, you're automatically more intimidated.
00:34:06There's something about black that just you feel like you're about to get your ass kicked.
00:34:10I'm going blacks.
00:34:11Chief.
00:34:13There's just something about that Netherlands Orange.
00:34:15I know.
00:34:15I agree.
00:34:16Brilliant Orange.
00:34:17I'm the Orange guy.
00:34:18What?
00:34:19Yeah.
00:34:20I'm a Netherlands guy.
00:34:21I'm going with Netherlands.
00:34:21Okay.
00:34:23Unfortunately, now, this means we have to involve the worst guy on our show, Carson.
00:34:29Carson, you get to break the tie here.
00:34:31Is it Netherlands or is it Norway advancing?
00:34:35There we go.
00:34:36Carson said Netherlands.
00:34:36Let's go.
00:34:37What?
00:34:38Let's go.
00:34:39No way, dude.
00:34:40I was on the edge of buying an Erlen Holland away kit the other day.
00:34:44Anyway.
00:34:45Again, I don't hate the-
00:34:48Look at the numbers, guys.
00:34:49And it says Brautalen on the back.
00:34:53All right.
00:34:53Here's the updated bracket.
00:34:55Final four here, guys.
00:34:57Mexico versus Brazil.
00:34:58Is it the green or the yellows advancing?
00:35:01Mexico.
00:35:01I'm going Mexico as well.
00:35:02I got Mexico here as well.
00:35:03I'm going Mexico as well, actually.
00:35:05The Mexico uniforms are just like, they're so good.
00:35:07I know.
00:35:08They nail it every time.
00:35:09We can already see exactly where this is going.
00:35:13So, Mexico, obviously advancing here.
00:35:16Shout out Brazil.
00:35:16But the greens just pop.
00:35:18And the kind of subtle coloring there.
00:35:21A little bit of like holographic look.
00:35:22Next up, we got the U.S. home kits going against the Dutch.
00:35:28The all-orange.
00:35:29What are you going to do, Chief?
00:35:30Ew.
00:35:32What are you going to do, Chief?
00:35:32There's something about that orange, right?
00:35:34Suddenly, that orange looks atrocious.
00:35:35It does.
00:35:36So, I'm going with the U.S. here again.
00:35:39Yeah, we got to go U.S. all the way.
00:35:41Okay.
00:35:41Yeah, exactly.
00:35:43I think I could have.
00:35:44Once the first round broke like it did, it became obvious how this was going to go.
00:35:48U.S.
00:35:49Clean sweep.
00:35:50Beats the Netherlands here.
00:35:53And then it means we have a final.
00:35:55A classic final.
00:35:57A dos a zero final.
00:35:59Mexico versus the USA.
00:36:01The home stripes against the home greens.
00:36:04Oh, no.
00:36:05How are we going to choose, guys?
00:36:08Where are we going to end up?
00:36:09Production is telling me to film.
00:36:10What do you want me to say?
00:36:12It's the uniforms, guys.
00:36:13I got something to say.
00:36:14I don't think that's the best orange uniform in the World Cup.
00:36:17I know how to fill.
00:36:18What we can do is if there are better jerseys out there, you can ask Wubb later and tell
00:36:22us what jersey you would rather see in this bracket.
00:36:26And if we've gotten it wrong.
00:36:27Way to be a professional, Meg.
00:36:29New host of the show.
00:36:30Megan, you can take over.
00:36:32This is such a beautiful jersey matchup.
00:36:34This really is.
00:36:35As much as I love the home team, there's just that Mexico jersey, it's just so standout
00:36:40to me.
00:36:42Again, I do love America.
00:36:44I want us to continue to play well and to win.
00:36:48But as far as just pure aesthetics, I'm going to go Mexico here.
00:36:53I like aesthetics.
00:36:54I'm with you, Megan.
00:36:55I'm with you.
00:36:56I think it's so clean.
00:36:59That green is just beautiful.
00:37:01The shoulder stripes and just the way that it's just a good uniform.
00:37:05Call me a traitor.
00:37:06I don't care.
00:37:07Give me the Mexico.
00:37:08What?
00:37:09What are we doing here, guys?
00:37:11Are you serious?
00:37:12It's just about the jersey, T-Bob.
00:37:14It's just about the jersey.
00:37:14It's not about the team and who we're rooting for.
00:37:16Yeah, it's just about the jersey.
00:37:18And you know what I like?
00:37:19Red, white, and blue.
00:37:21Give me the U.S.
00:37:23It pains me.
00:37:24Oh.
00:37:25But I'm going with Mexico.
00:37:27What in the?
00:37:28I'm not proud of myself.
00:37:30I'm not happy about it.
00:37:31But if we're just talking just jersey.
00:37:34Just go bias, bias, bias, T-Bob.
00:37:36We have to have some actual originality here.
00:37:40Me thinks.
00:37:41Some honesty.
00:37:42Some honesty.
00:37:42No, dude.
00:37:43See, this is the problem is sometime in an effort to be different,
00:37:47in an effort to subvert expectations, you do dumb things.
00:37:51That's what got Game of Thrones in problems at the end of their seasons.
00:37:54That's what got this bracket in problems.
00:37:56There's no way.
00:37:56Congratulations, guys.
00:37:58You just gave Mexico to win.
00:38:01Everybody screenshot this so y'all can all remember who the real patriot is.
00:38:04Oh, excuse me.
00:38:05Screenshot this and share it online.
00:38:06You just contradicted yourself.
00:38:10How?
00:38:10Because you're saying that people do stupid things in order to be loyal.
00:38:14That's what you just did.
00:38:15No, no, no, no, no.
00:38:16They do stupid things in order to subvert expectations and be different
00:38:19because everybody expected us to go USA.
00:38:21And then y'all are saying, oh, well, look.
00:38:23You're trying to be different.
00:38:24We're following our hearts and our eyes.
00:38:26Well, that's crazy because objectively.
00:38:28I'm not following my heart.
00:38:29Because objectively the US is better.
00:38:31I'm saying heart as far as you see the uniforms.
00:38:34We're taking the USA.
00:38:36We're taking the places these people are playing out of it.
00:38:39We're just looking at the uniforms.
00:38:41I, I, yeah, I mean, I, but yeah, just looking at the uniforms, guess what?
00:38:44I disagree.
00:38:46You asked the best.
00:38:47Look at Pulisic.
00:38:47Looks way more badass and intimidating.
00:38:50These colors don't run, guys.
00:38:51Not that y'all would know anything about that.
00:38:53Or hopefully they do run.
00:38:55Like really, really fast.
00:38:57Next Wednesday.
00:38:58Congrats to Danny Cardenas, one of the members of the WUB team here,
00:39:03as he's our biggest Mexico fan that we have.
00:39:06Oh, yeah, and Jordan.
00:39:07Congrats, guys.
00:39:07Way to go.
00:39:08There you go.
00:39:08Unbelievable.
00:39:14What's happening, guys?
00:39:14Welcome back.
00:39:15Wake up, Barcelona.
00:39:16It is Friday, okay, which means everybody's about to be hitting the club this week
00:39:20and a lot of people starting to get off of work.
00:39:22And we're going to let you know who from this week in sports is getting in the club
00:39:25and who's getting left out.
00:39:27Megan, you have the guest list.
00:39:28Where are we starting today?
00:39:29We're going to start with the national championship coach, and that's Dusty May.
00:39:35Dusty May leaving Michigan, going to the NBA.
00:39:40Guys, what are we doing with May?
00:39:41Is he getting in?
00:39:41I'm leaving him out.
00:39:43I think I might want to keep him out only because I don't like him just hopping away so soon.
00:39:50Look, I got no problem with what May did.
00:39:52I think it makes all the sense of the world.
00:39:54I mean, it makes sense.
00:39:54I just don't like it.
00:39:55What happened to guys being legends and getting their names painted on the court?
00:39:58He wants to be an NBA coach, dude.
00:40:00He coached his whole life.
00:40:01He finally gets his head coach.
00:40:03Well, we've all been working our whole lives.
00:40:05He kicks ass at FAU, does the job at Michigan.
00:40:07Do I get that?
00:40:09Well, he got it.
00:40:10Dana, are you letting me?
00:40:11I'm with you.
00:40:12We have a tie right now.
00:40:14So I'm 50-50 because I'm like, I don't like it, but I also understand it.
00:40:18So I guess we could let him in.
00:40:20However, he's on like strict, you know, if he messes up in this club, if he spills a drink, drops
00:40:25a glass, he's out.
00:40:27Dusty, tentatively being allowed in the club by Meg.
00:40:31Yeah, look, I think he did what like, again, I think what most of us would want to do if
00:40:35we were in his spot.
00:40:37All right, we're going to put Dusty May in the club.
00:40:39There we go, guys.
00:40:40All right, who's up next on the list?
00:40:43A little old to be here.
00:40:44Up next is, I would say it's Chef Donnie because I've never seen these two in a room, but it's
00:40:48Mac Jones.
00:40:50Oh, man.
00:40:51I want nobody else.
00:40:53Mac Jones.
00:40:53He's my number one guy I want in the club.
00:40:58That is Chef Donnie.
00:40:59Have you not seen this video?
00:41:00No.
00:41:01Can we put a little credit in the top right?
00:41:04Oh, yeah.
00:41:05Shout out Dana.
00:41:05Dana Beers.
00:41:06How many views?
00:41:07Can we not credit our sources anymore?
00:41:0912 million.
00:41:1012 million on Dana's head right now.
00:41:12Shout out Dana Beers.
00:41:12And also shout out Mac Jones.
00:41:14Well, crew, do we not have any type of, what's the, shame?
00:41:19You got 12 million views, Dana.
00:41:21I'm kidding.
00:41:21Hey, you know what?
00:41:22I'll shout you out.
00:41:23Shout out to Mac Jones.
00:41:24Great video.
00:41:24Honestly, the number one guy.
00:41:26He was the power rankings of Titan University to me.
00:41:29It was Mac Jones at the top.
00:41:31Great dude.
00:41:32He's giving Uncle Rico vibes in this video.
00:41:33I love him so much.
00:41:34I never, this is what I love about sports, okay?
00:41:37They constantly find ways to surprise you.
00:41:40The thing with this one, he was doing this.
00:41:42This was 45 second video.
00:41:44He was doing that for two hours.
00:41:45Yeah.
00:41:45No, no.
00:41:46I mean, like look, when it comes to who is fun to hang out with, there is maybe not a
00:41:51more expert panel of judges than Mike Kadick and Dana Beers.
00:41:55And so when they show up and they tell me that Mac Jones may be the coolest guy ever,
00:41:59I'm going to believe him.
00:42:00I never would have thought I'd do this.
00:42:01Mac Jones.
00:42:02The Mac Jones.
00:42:03Firmly in the club, dude.
00:42:04What's the word?
00:42:05What's somebody like goes from boom to boom?
00:42:07Up, down to up.
00:42:08What is that?
00:42:10Redemption arc?
00:42:11Yeah, redemption arc.
00:42:11The redemption arc of Mac Jones is something that is near and dear to my heart.
00:42:16Get him in the club.
00:42:18Here's the thing.
00:42:18Thank you for the video courtesy.
00:42:20Mac Jones going through the, he's going through the Sam Darnold path here.
00:42:25Go to Shanahan for a little bit, back up for a little bit.
00:42:28Like Mac Jones still potentially has a future left this year.
00:42:31And he's good.
00:42:31Locker room guy too.
00:42:32And he's good.
00:42:33Apparently.
00:42:34Yeah.
00:42:34Great locker room guy, dude.
00:42:35Also, like, it's nice to see him happy because the last time I thought about Mac Jones was
00:42:40him dying on the sideline, throwing up, being beat to hell on primetime last season.
00:42:45Shout out, Mac Jones.
00:42:45I love you, Mac.
00:42:46Get your ass in the club.
00:42:46I love you.
00:42:48Can't believe I let an Alabama guy in the club.
00:42:50What do we got next?
00:42:50It's tough.
00:42:51Up next, we got Jazz Chisholm with his lollipop.
00:42:54I like this move.
00:42:54I do too.
00:42:55Witchcraft.
00:42:56Oh, I love that too.
00:42:56I like, I like the double down.
00:42:59Everybody loves to hate on Jazz.
00:43:01Jazz dude.
00:43:02I like the double down of him in the dugout when he had a big thing of the lollipops.
00:43:06He just puts it right in the face.
00:43:07I love that.
00:43:08If you're going to get some crap for doing it on the field and you're going to double
00:43:10down, I love that.
00:43:11Get him in there.
00:43:12Get him in there.
00:43:13He just has this aura about him.
00:43:15Like, this, like, I don't care.
00:43:18I'm a New York Yankee and I'm going to do what I want.
00:43:20And I love it.
00:43:21T-Bob, like, all the angry people yelling in the clouds about a dude having a lollipop
00:43:26on the field.
00:43:27Who cares?
00:43:28Of all the things that get a rise out of me nowadays and that are online.
00:43:31He used to smoke cigarettes in the dugout.
00:43:33Why can't he have a lollipop?
00:43:34Yeah, that's a great point.
00:43:35Yeah, good point.
00:43:35Who cares?
00:43:36I just think, I just always mess up his name and I call him Chaz Jism all the time.
00:43:40Shout out Chaz.
00:43:41See, there it is again.
00:43:42Shout out Chaz.
00:43:43Chaz Jism.
00:43:44You and your lollipop.
00:43:45You know what?
00:43:45A lot of people might be sucking on lollipops past fires in the club.
00:43:49It's all welcoming.
00:43:50Get him in.
00:43:50Come on, Chaz.
00:43:51What do we got?
00:43:52Who's next?
00:43:52This next guy, I'm going to go ahead and I don't care what any of you say.
00:43:56Not only is he not getting in, he's banned.
00:43:58We're going to have this guy arrested.
00:43:59It's Brian Kelly.
00:44:01Yeah, get Brian Kelly out of here.
00:44:03Look, I said he yesterday.
00:44:04He's going to keep calling Mountain West games.
00:44:06I love watching Hawaii at night and making up for my day.
00:44:10Do I want to hear Brian Kelly?
00:44:12No.
00:44:12Dude, he might.
00:44:13Aloha.
00:44:13Is there any part of you thinks he might be good at this?
00:44:16He might be better at this than coaching football?
00:44:17He's going to be better at it than coaching football.
00:44:19I think he's going to be good.
00:44:21I think, look.
00:44:21I never want to hear his voice again.
00:44:24Free my boy.
00:44:25He was not good at LSU.
00:44:26I'm glad he's gone.
00:44:27Get him out.
00:44:28But in terms of just interpersonal.
00:44:31Club vibe?
00:44:31Not a club guy.
00:44:32No, not.
00:44:33Look, he's definitely not in the club.
00:44:34Okay?
00:44:34He's definitely not in the club.
00:44:35All I'm saying is he was like not the worst coach to cover.
00:44:39He's in the clubhouse.
00:44:40He was not the worst coach to cover.
00:44:41That's all I'm saying.
00:44:42Are you trying to like still like kiss his ass a little bit at this point?
00:44:46No.
00:44:46I mean, look, as the two LSU people up here, I sat there and I was like, no, no, no.
00:44:51And you're like, but like Brian Kelly, but like.
00:44:53No, I'm not putting him in.
00:44:56I'm just talking from like.
00:44:57When I interacted with him, he wasn't that bad.
00:44:59That's what I'm saying.
00:45:00I'm just going to be honest.
00:45:01Staying on business.
00:45:02I'm leaving out the club.
00:45:03He's not a club guy.
00:45:04He doesn't belong in the club.
00:45:05He wants to be golfing anyway.
00:45:07That much is obvious.
00:45:08I'm just saying he might be good at this.
00:45:10I think he's going to be good in the booth.
00:45:11We'll see.
00:45:11Maybe not.
00:45:12I'm going to be watching on mute.
00:45:15Up next, we have.
00:45:17Not family.
00:45:18What do we got next?
00:45:19Not family.
00:45:21$75 fancy AF tots at the Miami stadium.
00:45:25Yeah.
00:45:25No.
00:45:25Get the hell out of here.
00:45:27I'll see if I can.
00:45:28Oh, wait.
00:45:28Okay.
00:45:29I got to see.
00:45:29I got to see a picture of these tots.
00:45:31We have a picture of the tots.
00:45:32I feel like they have to have like gold flakes on the top or something.
00:45:34No picture of the tots.
00:45:35Okay.
00:45:36It's got like.
00:45:37Probably some truffles.
00:45:38Yeah, like truffles.
00:45:40Yeah, exactly.
00:45:41The gold flakes.
00:45:41Like all of that.
00:45:42All you need for tots is a little ketchup, maybe a little barbecue sauce.
00:45:46Or.
00:45:46Tots are great on their own.
00:45:47Or chili cheese.
00:45:48Out.
00:45:49I mean, obviously 75 tots are always out of the club.
00:45:53But like.
00:45:53I did.
00:45:54We'll do that.
00:45:54They're even taking.
00:45:56They're taking some bullets here for the rest of this menu.
00:45:59I mean.
00:45:59A 20 ounce Coke.
00:46:0115 bucks.
00:46:02Crazy.
00:46:03A chicken sandwich.
00:46:04These are $18.
00:46:05These are formula one prices.
00:46:07What has happened to this world?
00:46:08What in the world has happened to this world?
00:46:11Wait, what?
00:46:12We're looking at these.
00:46:13Yeah.
00:46:14Caviar.
00:46:15Out of the club.
00:46:16Out of the club.
00:46:16Out of the club.
00:46:24Oh, yeah.
00:46:25I'm going to put a dog in the club.
00:46:27Oh, yeah, dude.
00:46:28Good vibes.
00:46:28Yeah.
00:46:29Bring the lollipops and the dog.
00:46:30Bring the dog in.
00:46:31Kaden can't be the only person barking at people.
00:46:34Oh, how sad he is.
00:46:35I know.
00:46:35Can you come in?
00:46:36I know.
00:46:37Give that guy a treat.
00:46:38He can come in.
00:46:39Yeah.
00:46:39Good boy.
00:46:40Now, granted, shout out to the Marlins.
00:46:42We did talk about this yesterday.
00:46:44They have tracked down the dog.
00:46:45And they're going to treat him to a fantastic day at the park.
00:46:48I love that.
00:46:49Where he gets everything he wants.
00:46:49Let's go.
00:46:50So the good boy will win in the end.
00:46:52But before you get back to the park.
00:46:54Come on down to the club, dog.
00:46:55You're in here.
00:46:56You're in there, dude.
00:46:57How did those people not give that guy a treat?
00:46:59Poor guy.
00:47:00Get in there, Sparky.
00:47:01Yeah.
00:47:01Good dog.
00:47:02Didn't bark.
00:47:02Didn't act.
00:47:03Just sat there and watched.
00:47:04Up next, we have Ecuador manager Sebastian Beccasici.
00:47:09We think we're saying that right.
00:47:10We think we're saying it right.
00:47:11But you know what?
00:47:12Fabio.
00:47:13You can depend on anything.
00:47:14It's me pronouncing things wrong.
00:47:15So it's probably wrong.
00:47:17It's either Beccasici, Beccasici.
00:47:20It could be a million different things.
00:47:21The point is, he's got really long Fabio hair.
00:47:23Ecuador with an incredible win yesterday.
00:47:26Coming back down from 1-0 against Germany.
00:47:28Probably a German goal that shouldn't even count it.
00:47:31They keep their tournament hopes alive.
00:47:32This was still with plenty of game left.
00:47:35It's like 20 minutes left in the game.
00:47:3620 minutes left in the game.
00:47:38He runs over and hugs his wife's head.
00:47:40Oh, look at that move.
00:47:41I love that move.
00:47:43I love the hair.
00:47:44Wait, no, I missed the back tat.
00:47:45It looks like it's the size of a basketball.
00:47:48And I would love for him to be shirtless in the club with that hair and the tattoo.
00:47:51Like, he could be on stage, like, having the best time.
00:47:54Look, shout out to Sebastian.
00:47:57Bring his wife to the club, too.
00:47:58Just wait for this.
00:47:59She's also welcome.
00:47:59Unbelievable.
00:48:00Look at that.
00:48:00I got to see this.
00:48:01Because Dan Lanning is currently my favorite tattoo in sports.
00:48:04Let's see what Sebastian's working with here.
00:48:05Come on.
00:48:07Oh, I got to see the rest of it.
00:48:09Got to see the rest of it.
00:48:10Check it out.
00:48:10But again, we will see it once he gets in the club.
00:48:12Come on in.
00:48:13Shout out to Ecuador, though.
00:48:14One of the great stories from yesterday's results.
00:48:16Come on in, buddy.
00:48:17Keeping their hopes alive.
00:48:18Okay, who we got next?
00:48:19Up next, we have the Hornets fan that's driving by.
00:48:22And we got to listen to what he's saying.
00:48:23We have some audio on this one, guys.
00:48:25So we can decide after we hear the audio.
00:48:28The mellow ball, man.
00:48:29Trading the mellow ball from the Hornets.
00:48:31That's like y'all traded Michael Jordan out to Chicago Bulls.
00:48:34Y'all already didn't give us Kobe Bryant.
00:48:36Y'all keep messing up the team chemistry.
00:48:38He was the hottest on the team.
00:48:40He bought us all the ticket sales.
00:48:42He made the most points on the team.
00:48:43It was nobody else better than him.
00:48:45He made it beautiful to watch.
00:48:46I swear, he made it beautiful to watch.
00:48:48He made us want to come in.
00:48:51Man, look at my man who's on side of the building.
00:48:53Now they got to take them off, man.
00:48:56It's crazy.
00:48:57Why would y'all trade mellow?
00:48:58Bring back mellow.
00:48:59Reverse the trade.
00:49:00Reverse it.
00:49:02Reverse the trade.
00:49:03Reverse the trade.
00:49:04Reverse that trade.
00:49:05I'm going to go ahead and say I want not just him,
00:49:08but his friend in the club as well.
00:49:09Yeah, they need it.
00:49:10And the vibes that they're bringing would be just immaculate.
00:49:14I love them.
00:49:15I love them a lot.
00:49:16I don't know how that guy's getting his whole body outside the window like that.
00:49:19That's actually a good one.
00:49:21You've got to be so flexible.
00:49:22And so tall.
00:49:23Yeah.
00:49:24And look, I feel for him.
00:49:26I mean, that is one of the crazier parts about this trade.
00:49:29The Hornets were all good vibes last year.
00:49:32One of the most exciting finishes of anybody.
00:49:34You feel like everything's moving in the right direction,
00:49:36and then you get rid of the fan favorite.
00:49:37Like, I know he's crazy.
00:49:39He definitely shouldn't be driving.
00:49:41But he is fun.
00:49:43Yeah.
00:49:43And he was awesome in the court.
00:49:44And now you get, like, Nasreen, who's really good.
00:49:46Yeah.
00:49:46But still, I don't know.
00:49:48I feel bad for Hornets fans today.
00:49:49So come on in.
00:49:50Hornets fans, y'all are in the club.
00:49:51All right.
00:49:52We have one more guest.
00:49:53And I will say, he's been in the line a lot.
00:49:57We've let him in once.
00:49:58I think we all decided that he was a one-and-done type of guest.
00:50:02It's Mr. Russell Wilson.
00:50:03What did he do now?
00:50:05Nothing.
00:50:05Literally nothing.
00:50:06We just – he shows up every week.
00:50:09He tries to get in, and we just got to say no.
00:50:11Look, Russ, you're going to have a chance.
00:50:12We let you in once.
00:50:13Once.
00:50:14Maybe when – if you kick ass this fall on the broadcast, maybe you get in.
00:50:19Okay, Russ?
00:50:19Don't worry.
00:50:20There it is, those guys.
00:50:21That's everybody who's in and out this week.
00:50:24Coming up, we still got plenty more to get to.
00:50:27We got Kevin O'Connor to talk some NBA from Yahoo Sports.
00:50:31Kind of make sense of all of these deals.
00:50:33What are the Hornets doing?
00:50:34Who are the winners and losers?
00:50:35We'll look at today's World Cup matches.
00:50:37We got Ask Wub at the end of the hour.
00:50:39You get on Twitter, hashtag Ask Wub.
00:50:41We're going to tube in more Wake Up.
00:50:50What's happening, y'all?
00:50:51Welcome back to Wake Up Barstool here on FS1.
00:50:54And, look, it's time to talk some NBA.
00:50:56As we said, the NBA offseason is in full swing, dominating the headlines yesterday,
00:51:02breaking news during the show, that LaMelo ball trade, which is still wild to me.
00:51:08And who better talk to an NBA inside of reality sports, Kevin O'Connor.
00:51:11Kevin, what's up, man?
00:51:12Thank you so much for joining us.
00:51:14Welcome to the Barstool universe, dude.
00:51:17Thank you guys for having me on.
00:51:19How are you doing?
00:51:19We're doing well.
00:51:20We're doing well.
00:51:21It's Friday.
00:51:21You know, weekend's in the air.
00:51:23Good vibes are in the air.
00:51:24I wonder how it would be feeling if I was a Charlotte Hornet fan, though.
00:51:29And we just played a clip from a Hornet fan driving by the stadium, and he's all bummed.
00:51:33He's like, what the hell?
00:51:33We love LaMelo.
00:51:34Why'd they trade him?
00:51:35So here's my question.
00:51:40Did you have any idea that LaMelo was actively being shopped?
00:51:45Like, how out of left field was this for you?
00:51:48And did the Charlotte Hornets get better on the court?
00:51:52I mean, there was hints that Charlotte could be shopping LaMelo even last offseason, beginning of the season.
00:51:58And then they had their unbelievable year.
00:52:00I mean, his incredible year ended not so well in the play-in tournament, but there were little hints that
00:52:06maybe Charlotte would be open to it.
00:52:08And then on draft night with the 18th pick, they took a guy, Christian Anderson, who's a very perimeter-oriented
00:52:13player.
00:52:14And in the back of my mind, I'm like, huh, they trade for Kobe White at the deadline.
00:52:18They draft a guard with the 18th pick.
00:52:20Could this indicate that maybe LaMelo's on the move?
00:52:23And then, boom, suddenly things happen fast.
00:52:26Within 24 hours, him heading to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
00:52:28I think for Charlotte Hornets fans, how should they be feeling this morning?
00:52:32Obviously, you're disappointed to lose the face of your franchise.
00:52:35But you think one year ago at this time, how you were feeling about LaMelo, this was an outlier-level
00:52:41year.
00:52:41And so I think for Charlotte, this is an opportunity to just ultimately get a great return, maybe take a
00:52:47slight step back.
00:52:48But we'll see.
00:52:49We'll see because they're still having trade talks right now.
00:52:52There are teams trying to get a Nas Reed from them right now so they could flip some pieces into
00:52:57something else.
00:52:58And this team is still going to be really good, in my opinion.
00:53:00Yeah, Kevin, we've seen Nas Reed come off the bench for the Timberwolves and obviously be a frontrunner for Sixth
00:53:07Man of the Year for years now.
00:53:08And this is a guy that I think could elevate in Charlotte.
00:53:12And what do you think his ceiling is in Charlotte?
00:53:15Is he a second scorer, a third scorer?
00:53:18Where does he go from here, from being on the Timberwolves bench, basically?
00:53:22It's going to be interesting because I think with Nas Reed, I've loved that guy since he was entering the
00:53:26NBA,
00:53:27with his versatility on the perimeter.
00:53:28But sometimes you get put in a role, and the team just views you as just that,
00:53:34and then you get an opportunity to be something more.
00:53:36And I do wonder if that's going to be that here in Charlotte, with the spacing they play with,
00:53:40the flow on their offense, and with Nas Reed's ability to play from the perimeter,
00:53:44both as a catch-and-shoot guy but also somebody who can handle the ball.
00:53:48We saw him over the years in Minnesota, back with Carl Anthony Towns, with Julius Randall,
00:53:52and Rudy Gobert, all the bigs he's played with, as a guy who can run, pick, and roll sometimes.
00:53:56And so this Charlotte team is definitely building out something where they have creation from every single spot on the
00:54:03floor.
00:54:03And so for Nas Reed, I'd hope he stays in Charlotte.
00:54:06I would hope they don't flip him, and I don't think they will, to be clear.
00:54:09But with this Hornets offense, I think we could potentially see Nas Reed go from six-man-of-the-year
00:54:15candidate to,
00:54:16oh, wait a minute, maybe all-star-level numbers.
00:54:19I wouldn't rule that out, especially given how shallow the East is compared to the Western Conference.
00:54:25Now, probably the more relevant piece of all of this is what's going on with the Timberwolves here, right?
00:54:32That's a team that has been threatening for championships, knocking on the door.
00:54:36I thought it looked like they were going to elevate Nas into that starting lineup.
00:54:40Now they team up LaMelo Ball and Ant Edwards.
00:54:43Like, what's the vision there?
00:54:45How do they work together?
00:54:47And is this a move that you think could help them take the step forward against what they've been running
00:54:52up against?
00:54:53Yeah, T-Bob, you said, like, what's the vision?
00:54:55I think for Minnesota, look at what happened in their playoff series loss against San Antonio.
00:55:01They were so, so reliant on getting to the basket that when you face that Spurs defense,
00:55:07Victor Wemenyama, they're packing the paint.
00:55:09They're forcing the Wolves into becoming a shooting team.
00:55:12It all fell apart.
00:55:13And so this is, I think, a flip on how they're going to be viewing how to build this roster
00:55:18around Anthony Edwards.
00:55:20With LaMelo Ball and Anthony Edwards, you have two of the prime creators on the perimeter in the entire NBA.
00:55:25You have a counter to not being allowed to get to the rim.
00:55:30Now you have something where you can create on the perimeter, playmake on the perimeter,
00:55:33shoot off the catch, shoot off the dribble with LaMelo and Anthony Edwards.
00:55:36And I think for Ant, specifically, he has faced two in the ball so often in these playoff series losses.
00:55:44Now you cannot do that because you have LaMelo Ball as an outlet with his playmaking ability.
00:55:49And vice versa, LaMelo, as a creator for Anthony Edwards, who has become one of the best shooters in the
00:55:55entire NBA,
00:55:55hit nearly 50% of his shots from three off the catch this past season.
00:55:59And so Tim Conley, their general manager, said at their exit interview, he said,
00:56:04Ant's the best two-way guard in basketball, but how do we get him easier shots?
00:56:08Well, you add a point guard like LaMelo Ball to do just that.
00:56:12I want to switch gears real quick here.
00:56:14I'm a diehard Celtics fan, and I don't know what's going on right now.
00:56:19We talked about it earlier in the show.
00:56:21It feels like there is inevitably going to be some chemistry issues if Jalen Brown just ends up staying on
00:56:29the Celtics.
00:56:29And God knows what's actually happening right now.
00:56:32What do you think about what's going on with Jalen Brown and the future with him and the Celtics?
00:56:38And you heard Wendy say the other day that they have to trade him if they want to stay competitive.
00:56:44What's going on with the Celtics right now?
00:56:47I mean, look, I think Giannis was clearly plan A above all else.
00:56:51But ultimately, I think with the Tatum-Brown core, and you know this as a Celtics fan,
00:56:55that they do win a championship, but there was also just a lot of playoff heartbreaks
00:57:00with common reasons for failure with the offense becoming so stagnant at the end of games.
00:57:06And so I think with the Tatum-Brown core, perhaps it has reached at the end of the road.
00:57:10And with Jalen Brown, Twitch streamer, and massive ego, and had his own team,
00:57:15it might be hard to now get him to be the Robin to Tatum's Batman once again.
00:57:20And so I think for Boston, I think it's an opportunity to sell high on him
00:57:24after he finished sixth in MVP voting, led the team to a two-seed, and get a massive return back.
00:57:30Now, what is that massive return?
00:57:32There's Shams, who reported on this, saying how they want four first-round draft picks.
00:57:40Are they going to be able to get four?
00:57:42We'll see in this market, but I think you look at teams that have four firsts.
00:57:46The Pistons, the Rockets, the Sixers, the Blazers, those are some teams that are playoff teams,
00:57:52non-playoff teams, the Hornets, the Kings, the Pelicans, the Jazz.
00:57:56Maybe not a lot of incentive for some of those teams, but I'd say there's probably
00:58:00eight to ten teams that both have four first-round draft picks
00:58:04and would have some type of incentive to trade for Jalen Brown.
00:58:07So I do think it's going to be a robust market for him,
00:58:10but it's just about what do the Celtics look like afterwards?
00:58:13Are they going to be taking a step back, or are they still going to be contenders?
00:58:16So that's interesting.
00:58:17So you're saying that you believe that Jalen Brown could be moved solely?
00:58:21I mean, I'm not saying like a player won't be thrown in there,
00:58:24but almost solely moved for resources.
00:58:27It's very possible.
00:58:28Wow.
00:58:29Wow.
00:58:29Very possible.
00:58:30I don't like that.
00:58:31What about, yeah, I mean, that just feels kind of awful.
00:58:33I mean, Desmond Bain was what, three or four first-round picks?
00:58:38Mikael Bridges, same thing?
00:58:39Five, I think.
00:58:40Jalen Brown's a lot better than those two.
00:58:42So it's like, to me, I think that's undersold a little bit.
00:58:46I hope that's not the case.
00:58:47Well, we'll see where the Jalen Brown market ends up.
00:58:50The big trade that kicked all of this off and the chain effect that we're witnessing
00:58:54here is the Giannis trade.
00:58:55But before we dive into it, I want to talk about LeBron, because he's going to enter free
00:58:59agency next week, and there's some scintillating ideas out there that maybe LeBron should consider
00:59:05a return to South Beach.
00:59:08What are we hearing on the LeBron front?
00:59:09Is he going to stay put in LA, or does he have one more LeBron James big move left in
00:59:15him?
00:59:16My understanding is his preference is to stay with the Lakers.
00:59:19I'm not so sure that's mutual on the Lakers side of things.
00:59:23They are in a position right now where they can open up a lot of cap space, even after
00:59:27the Austin Reeves re-signing.
00:59:29And so I think for the Lakers, they're looking around right now at what their offers are,
00:59:33what their options are in the trade market.
00:59:35What could they absorb into their cap space?
00:59:37Who could they pursue in free agency?
00:59:39Who's actually a viable target for them?
00:59:43But then also with LeBron James, is he willing to take a discount?
00:59:47And if so, how much of a discount?
00:59:49Because as good as LeBron still is at this stage of his career in his early 40s,
00:59:53he's the third wheel, ultimately, behind Luka Doncic and Austin Reeves.
00:59:59And so paying him max money would be a foolish way to use your cap space.
01:00:05So ultimately for the Lakers, I think they want him back at a certain number,
01:00:08but LeBron James obviously still wants as much as he can get.
01:00:12And perhaps there's other teams out there, Miami included, I would imagine would think
01:00:16about it because the Heat, one thing they need after this Giannis trade is they need
01:00:20some perimeter creation.
01:00:21They gave it pretty much all up in that deal.
01:00:23And so I think the Heat have incentive to try to reunite with LeBron James.
01:00:27So I like, you know, from the Heat perspective, if you were to just in a vacuum, you'd tell
01:00:33them, OK, you're going to give up these plays, you're going to get Giannis DeCumpo.
01:00:36I think like, OK, that's a big win.
01:00:38But as you said, the makeup of the team still feels like it needs a lot of work.
01:00:44Pat Riley's been really good using Heat culture to develop players that we don't think a ton
01:00:47about or kind of come out of nowhere.
01:00:50What do you see Riley doing going forward to try to fill some of the holes that are kind
01:00:55of obvious outside looking in?
01:00:57I mean, they have to find some creation in the second round.
01:01:01It's not a big name.
01:01:02They drafted some guy, Ryan Conwell out of Louisville.
01:01:04It was a really good combo guard.
01:01:06And I think like that's a start, but you can't just have a rookie guard fill the shoes of
01:01:12what you lost with Tyler Hero, Jaime Hacquez, some of the creation you had in that rotation
01:01:17last year.
01:01:18So I'd say for Miami, finding more creation, LeBron is obviously the big name everybody would
01:01:24talk about.
01:01:24But I think trying to make moves around the edges, adding some depth because this team
01:01:29can't just be Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bam Adebayo, Davion Mitchell as your only real guard in
01:01:36the backcourt.
01:01:37They have a lot of holes to fill for this team to, I think, actually become a better
01:01:42contender than the New York Knicks or what the Pistons could look like after Detroit makes
01:01:47potential moves.
01:01:48They're trying to make some swings out there as well.
01:01:50Like where the league is right now today, even these teams that have already made moves,
01:01:54Miami, Charlotte, Minnesota, there's still a lot of moves to be made.
01:01:58So we're looking at an incomplete picture right now.
01:02:00And I think all of those teams, all those aforementioned teams we've talked about are
01:02:04still active, still trying to make moves.
01:02:07So let's look at the incomplete picture then.
01:02:09NBA draft just going down as well on top of all these deals.
01:02:13Are there any surprise winners or any team that maybe isn't garnering the headlines that
01:02:20you believe has really acquitted themselves well in this early offseason?
01:02:24Yeah, I mean, I think of the contenders, everybody's talking about OKC getting a dive
01:02:29out with the 12th pick, the guy they were attempting to trade up to get.
01:02:33And rightfully so.
01:02:34They had a great draft.
01:02:36I really like what they did.
01:02:37I think some of the younger teams did a really good job.
01:02:41Yes, exactly.
01:02:41And I'd say I love what I think Memphis is the winner of the draft.
01:02:46Personally, Cam Boozer was number one on my board.
01:02:48They get him third.
01:02:50They trade down twice, get five additional second round picks, flip three of those, get
01:02:54Isaiah Stewart.
01:02:55They draft a guy with that 21st pick and Kareem Lopez, who I think should have been a lottery
01:03:01pick.
01:03:02And then the early second round, Richie Saunders from BYU coming off a torn ACL, four year
01:03:06player, but just absolute maniac.
01:03:08I had him on my podcast and Richie Saunders, I asked him, what are you most looking forward
01:03:13to when you get back on the court?
01:03:14He's like, man, I can't wait to put on a swim move and crash the offensive glass.
01:03:19And that just sums up who that guy is.
01:03:22And he's a maniac.
01:03:23And so I feel like we're entering a potential grit and grind 2.0 era, especially once Memphis
01:03:28dumps John Morant somewhere else.
01:03:30And we'll see where he goes.
01:03:31Another big name that can move.
01:03:32But I love what the Grizzlies did, even though they're a non-playoff team, small market and
01:03:37not getting as much focus.
01:03:39Kevin, I have a question.
01:03:40You've mentioned the draft.
01:03:41This is more kind of maybe a girly question, but we had Coach Cal on.
01:03:45He was talking a lot about Acuff.
01:03:46Obviously, we saw his disappointment whenever he got drafted.
01:03:51Would you say that that is warranted and justified?
01:03:54And do you think that he's going to get that trade that he requested within seconds after
01:03:59being drafted?
01:04:01I mean, I think he's just stone cold, stoic.
01:04:04Look, it could have been any team with that look.
01:04:07I think he ultimately won in Sacramento.
01:04:10That's what every indication was involving Darius Acuff with his connection with the King's
01:04:16front office, his father and Scott Perry, their general manager.
01:04:19They're all Detroit guys.
01:04:20I mean, maybe he already celebrated weeks ago.
01:04:24Maybe the celebration happened behind closed doors with Darius Acuff.
01:04:29I think with him going to a good young team, I like what the Kings have done in the draft
01:04:34personally, even though their veterans don't make any sense at all.
01:04:37DeMar DeRozan, Zach Levine, DeMonta Sabonis.
01:04:40The vets make zero sense, but I like the youth there in Sacramento.
01:04:43That's a mad lib of a roster that you just named right there.
01:04:48So weird.
01:04:49Kevin, what about this?
01:04:50You mentioned John Morant.
01:04:52Do we live in a world where we are going to see Zion Williamson and John Morant on the
01:04:57same team come next season?
01:05:00What was that meme a few years ago?
01:05:04Guns and buns draft.
01:05:06Yes, yes.
01:05:07Team guns and buns.
01:05:08I forgot about guns and buns.
01:05:10Team it up at the credit.
01:05:11What do you think?
01:05:12I mean, I need something new for my Pelicans.
01:05:14I need anything.
01:05:15Give me, give me something to at least like cheer for.
01:05:18I mean, look, I think Ja, Ja's weird because like he, he got off to such a horrible start
01:05:24last season with Memphis.
01:05:27And I feel like everybody kind of anchored themselves to that when he was just taking
01:05:31threes and brick and threes and not getting into the basket at all.
01:05:34But he played eight games, only eight games in, in December and January, but numbers wise,
01:05:40he looked like John Morant in those eight games.
01:05:43He efficiency wise, it was identical to his two all-star seasons shot distribution wise
01:05:47was identical.
01:05:48And so I wonder in the back of my mind, even though I've always been a Ja skeptic, I have
01:05:53always not been the biggest John Morant fan.
01:05:55I wonder if in the back of my mind, he's being undervalued as an asset.
01:05:59When people say the Grizzlies would have to give up picks to get off him, even though
01:06:04he only has two years left on his contract, seems a little extreme to me for John Morant
01:06:09right now.
01:06:10But I wonder if maybe he ends up being one of the steals of the off season.
01:06:13And he's a target.
01:06:14I would imagine for Miami, it's just salary wise, that would be very hard to figure out
01:06:18at this point.
01:06:19So let's talk about all the, all the other contenders, right?
01:06:22That's been kind of one of the funny pieces of the fallout from the Miami trade is people
01:06:26have been like, well, they're probably like fifth in the East still.
01:06:29And it's like, wait, is, is, is East good now?
01:06:31I thought we just spent an entire year talking about how it was all West.
01:06:34So when, when, when you look East West major contenders, who do you think and what potential
01:06:40moves could be made for those teams to try to overcome the, the Knicks?
01:06:45I mean, look, we'll, we'll see with Detroit.
01:06:48They're, they're definitely active.
01:06:49We know about their interest in Kawhi Leonard.
01:06:52They have all of their future first round draft picks.
01:06:54They have draft flexibility as well.
01:06:57Asset flexibility.
01:06:58I mean, to say on top of those picks.
01:07:00So Jalen Duren could be a sign and trade possibility as well.
01:07:04They can make two moves, not just one move.
01:07:05And so I think for a 60 win team that was fundamentally flawed last year with their lack of shooting
01:07:11and their lack of creation next to Cade Cunningham, their position now to capitalize on that.
01:07:17What are they going to do?
01:07:17We'll see.
01:07:18Like they might end up doing nothing that makes a difference, but they have a lot of options
01:07:22out there.
01:07:23And I think other than that, Cleveland, I haven't heard a whole lot around them mixing up their
01:07:28core.
01:07:29I haven't heard about Jared Allen or Evan Mobley being on the move.
01:07:32I haven't heard anything about Mitchell, but I think they're a team.
01:07:35That maybe quietly could be trying to make some tweaks to improve their roster to to get over
01:07:41the Knicks.
01:07:41And other than that, in the Eastern Conference, I think, you know, Charlotte's probably going
01:07:45to take a slight step back.
01:07:46Orlando, we'll see with their new coach.
01:07:48Philly, it's all due to Joel Embiid.
01:07:50I think a lot of these other teams in the East are a little too young, maybe a year or
01:07:54two away.
01:07:54And so it's more about those teams at the top.
01:07:57I still can't believe we live in a world where the Knicks are like the boogeyman.
01:08:02I just can't believe it.
01:08:04And now Jalen Brown's not going to be a Celtic anymore.
01:08:06It's been a weird couple of years for you, Dana.
01:08:08What happened, man?
01:08:09It's been a quick couple of years.
01:08:10I feel like the majority of Knicks fans are also like Jets and Mets fans.
01:08:14So like they needed something.
01:08:15I know.
01:08:15Yeah, but I'm done with them now.
01:08:16It was cute, but I'm done with them now.
01:08:18They can go back to being the bad guys now.
01:08:20It's just so bizarre.
01:08:21Dana had the Chicago Bulls as one of the draft winners.
01:08:26You mentioned teams that are a year or two away.
01:08:27Does it feel like the Bulls are finally starting to head in the right direction?
01:08:30And with this week, Eastern Conference, is there a way that they could sneak into like
01:08:35a play in situation, a place they're very comfortable?
01:08:39I think, yeah, I mean, they're definitely comfortable in the plan.
01:08:43It was kind of surprising.
01:08:44They weren't even there this year.
01:08:45I know.
01:08:45They had what?
01:08:46Eight guards in their roster at one point.
01:08:48I mean, talk about a team that made no sense.
01:08:50But yeah, I think their roster this incoming season, if Manos Buzela is going to take another
01:08:55leap like he did last year, I thought he was an underrated, most improved candidate.
01:08:59It's just he was in his second year.
01:09:01If Josh Giddey continues improving, if Noah Senge becomes something on top of getting Caleb
01:09:08Wilson, who I think is going to be an instant impact player as a rookie with his lob ability
01:09:12that flashes of creation potential, but also the defense that's going to help their front
01:09:17court, which had basically nobody last year.
01:09:20And then I think Daylon Swain, I'm going to be really intrigued to see if Swain ends
01:09:25up becoming one of the steals of this draft class.
01:09:28Swain does literally everything.
01:09:29Six, seven versatile defensive player, downhill attacker, elite isolation score last year
01:09:35at Texas without a jumper.
01:09:37But he's got good free throw touch, good floater touch.
01:09:41He told me on my podcast that he was a shooter when he was younger and his shots improved this
01:09:47offseason.
01:09:47We'll see it to believe it.
01:09:49We'll find out in Summer League next month.
01:09:51But I think Swain has a chance with his creation ability to be a jumbo guard, a jumbo creator
01:09:56for that team that not a lot of people are talking about right now.
01:09:59There you go, guys.
01:10:00He's been dominating the NBA beat for years.
01:10:02Kevin O'Connor, Fighters, work at Yahoo Sports.com.
01:10:04Kevin, thank you so much for joining us today and letting us pepper you with questions from
01:10:08all out the league.
01:10:09And I hope you have an excellent weekend, my friend.
01:10:11You guys as well.
01:10:12Keep up the great work.
01:10:13All right.
01:10:14Kevin O'Connor, coming up next, guys, it's time to talk some NFL.
01:10:17That's right.
01:10:18Where's K-Dick?
01:10:19It's that time of year.
01:10:20I know.
01:10:20We're finally talking football.
01:10:22He's in Bloomington.
01:10:23Probably going to Kilroy's and whatnot.
01:10:26For sure.
01:10:26But yeah, look, we got to talk a little bit about Aaron Rodgers.
01:10:29We'll spin the NFL wheel.
01:10:30And it's all coming up next here on Wake Up Barstool.
01:10:32Woo!
01:10:37All right, guys.
01:10:38Welcome back to Wake Up Barstool.
01:10:39So I know I teased NFL, but thank you.
01:10:41That's a breaking news sounder that Megan was just doing, though you could have confused
01:10:46her for a tiny little chick between the dress and the noise.
01:10:50Mets fire manager Carlos Mendoza.
01:10:54It finally happens.
01:10:55And who better to talk to than our number one Mets fan here at Barstool Sports?
01:11:00That's Frank the Tank.
01:11:01It looks like he may be frozen right now.
01:11:02Frank, can you hear us?
01:11:05We're just talking during the break.
01:11:08Come on, Frankie.
01:11:10We need you, buddy.
01:11:12I don't have the Mets insider knowledge here to talk about Mendoza.
01:11:18I mean, is that not the perfect segue for Frank?
01:11:20He comes on and you know what he's doing now.
01:11:22He might have just smashed his computer.
01:11:24He might have just punched his computer.
01:11:25Yeah, he's going to blame Mikey Betts or Jenks or something.
01:11:29I'm going to go ahead and say this is Mikey Betts' fault.
01:11:31This is absolutely Mikey Betts' fault.
01:11:33It is funny because I thought he was going to be in a great mood.
01:11:36I'm like, oh, Frank, they're finally firing Mendoza.
01:11:37How do you feel?
01:11:38Absolutely horrible.
01:11:40So we'll get to Frank in a second.
01:11:41Why don't we do this?
01:11:43Because Frank's going to give us the best insight on this Mendoza firing.
01:11:47But look, we've seen other teams this year that have been struggling
01:11:50fire their managers.
01:11:51It's worked out very well.
01:11:52I mean, look at the Phillies.
01:11:53The Mets finally pulling the trigger.
01:11:55So we'll get to Frank in a second.
01:11:57Let's talk.
01:11:58Do we want to spin the NFL wheel?
01:12:00Or do we want to do the Aaron Rodgers conversation?
01:12:03Wheel.
01:12:04Wheel.
01:12:06Wheel.
01:12:07Wheel.
01:12:07Looks like he's got to wait for the wheel.
01:12:09There's a lot.
01:12:09We can't do it right now.
01:12:10We can't do it.
01:12:11We can't do it.
01:12:11We've got to wait on the wheel.
01:12:12We can't do the wheel right now and break.
01:12:13Let's do this.
01:12:15Tom Brady yesterday says Aaron Rodgers is, quote,
01:12:18the best passer of the football ever.
01:12:22And, you know, some people kind of pushing back against that.
01:12:24But my question would be this.
01:12:26Is the list of best passers of the football and best quarterbacks ever,
01:12:30is that a different list?
01:12:32Yes.
01:12:33So do we feel like Tom Brady is right here in giving Aaron Rodgers that title?
01:12:38Unfortunately, I have to say he's right.
01:12:41He's tormented us for, like, 15, 20 years.
01:12:43When he hits that back foot and he just floats it, it's just accurate every time.
01:12:48It's gorgeous coming out of his hand.
01:12:50And, like, the Hail Mary passes, just the points coming down, it's gorgeous.
01:12:55Yeah, it's true.
01:12:56I mean, it's a good point in the Hail Marys.
01:12:58Like, with that alone, that could potentially win in this competition.
01:13:01His ability to throw on the run, sure, whatever.
01:13:03All right.
01:13:04We got Frank back now.
01:13:06It looks like we're good to go.
01:13:07We have switched over to the phone.
01:13:10All right, Frank, the Mets fire Carlos Mendoza.
01:13:13Great day, right?
01:13:15No, it's not.
01:13:16It's a disaster.
01:13:18This team is a disaster.
01:13:20The fact that this didn't happen two months ago is a disaster.
01:13:26The fact that they're actually finally putting him out there, ending this misery, is just incredible.
01:13:35I mean, they're committing errors.
01:13:38It's mental plays.
01:13:39They're unprepared to play.
01:13:42And there's been no accountability.
01:13:45It's just been an abject, absolute disaster.
01:13:49I mean, yes, they're the first team ever in baseball to strike out more than 10 batters, not allow an
01:13:56earned run, hit two home runs, and lose.
01:14:02I mean, last week against the Phillies, they're down 11-0.
01:14:08Mark Fientel hits a meaningless home run, and he puts on a Spider-Man mask.
01:14:15The team has no awareness.
01:14:18That's crazy.
01:14:19And everything's okay with him.
01:14:21He is just like...
01:14:23And the team's not motivated.
01:14:25The team's not doing anything.
01:14:27It's just a joke.
01:14:31And David Stern, he's made a ton of mistakes.
01:14:36The owner who spoke a big game...
01:14:39First off, Steve Cohen needs to come out and address the fans.
01:14:42He needs to come out and address the fans.
01:14:45And Stern, with the smug smile, everything's going to be okay.
01:14:49That's got to end.
01:14:50These guys need to really take account of what they've done.
01:14:54And their poor roster management.
01:14:56And how poorly coached this team is.
01:14:59So, okay.
01:14:59He's pretty calm about this whole thing, though.
01:15:02Frank, is there no element of better late than never here?
01:15:05Because everything you just said, I mean, outside of maybe the roster construction...
01:15:09Well, he had to go.
01:15:09Everything you just said just feels like bad coaching.
01:15:11He had to go.
01:15:13This year's a disaster.
01:15:14But it's way too late.
01:15:17And more has to be done.
01:15:19Do you think that Andy Green has any hope here?
01:15:21Does he give you any hope that maybe he can get the most out of this team?
01:15:26No!
01:15:27Okay.
01:15:28Yeah.
01:15:28Frank, as our biggest Mets fan and someone that knows the team well,
01:15:33what would you do as...
01:15:35Say you're the manager.
01:15:36What is your first couple of steps to refocus this group and get them back on a winning track?
01:15:42Well, first off, there are no more home run celebrations.
01:15:46Mm-hmm.
01:15:47Yeah.
01:15:48Yeah.
01:15:48There are no more home run celebrations.
01:15:51All business.
01:15:52Yeah.
01:15:53Yeah.
01:15:53Yeah.
01:15:56And then we're moving the lockers around in the Mets lock clubhouse.
01:16:02Before this year, they had him, they separated Lindor and Soto.
01:16:07I am sitting down Lindor and Soto together.
01:16:12And whatever beef they have has to be squashed.
01:16:15Mm-hmm.
01:16:16Then I'm taking Francisco Lindor aside and say,
01:16:20I don't want you smiling at the other team.
01:16:22I want you focused.
01:16:25I mean, he has been so just like...
01:16:28It's like he wasn't...
01:16:30The Mets announced that he's not going to be named team captain.
01:16:32And this whole year, he's just been aloof.
01:16:35He's been pouting.
01:16:36Yeah.
01:16:37He's been pouting.
01:16:38And then he missed six weeks.
01:16:41He comes back, plays one game, and then he's out again.
01:16:44Now, if he was not healthy enough to play, then why is he activated?
01:16:50I mean, he didn't even pinch hit in the ninth inning yesterday.
01:16:55He didn't even pinch hit.
01:16:56They put Ronnie Mauricio, who is an awful player, up in the ninth inning.
01:17:02With two outs and a runner on second.
01:17:08They didn't pinch hit Lindor.
01:17:10I understand that he maybe wasn't healthy enough to start.
01:17:14You don't want to rush him back.
01:17:16But how is he not pinch hitting in the ninth inning with the winning run on second base?
01:17:21How is he not pinch hitting?
01:17:24He's setting up Ronnie Mauricio, whose OPS is under 500.
01:17:28His OPS is under 500.
01:17:30Frank, so give me one more answer here, and then I want to end on a positive note.
01:17:35Likely alluded to, the Phillies fire their coach.
01:17:38It's gone great for them.
01:17:40They figured out.
01:17:41Any hope that happens to the Mets?
01:17:44I don't think so.
01:17:45I think if they did this maybe six weeks ago, maybe.
01:17:52But the ship has sailed.
01:17:54The ship has sunk.
01:17:56So they're dead.
01:17:57They're dead.
01:17:58They're dead.
01:17:58Okay.
01:17:59The Mets are dead.
01:18:00What's not dead is your walk street.
01:18:02And we've got to give a massive congratulations to Frank.
01:18:04If you don't know, guys, a few years ago, decided he wanted to change his life.
01:18:09He's now down nearly 300 pounds.
01:18:12Maybe it is 300.
01:18:13I'm not even entirely sure.
01:18:15But importantly, hit a milestone, 1,000 walks in a row last Sunday on Father's Day.
01:18:22Not a single day off, Frank.
01:18:24I believe you all walked across the Brooklyn Bridge.
01:18:26Had a lot of people out there.
01:18:27How was it?
01:18:28How are we feeling?
01:18:29Congratulations, man.
01:18:30Well, that was great.
01:18:31I want to thank all the fans who came out there.
01:18:33And I'll do more public walks.
01:18:35So stay tuned.
01:18:36But yeah, that was a great day.
01:18:38Of course, walking over the Brooklyn Bridge.
01:18:40You know, the first time I did it, I did it in the rain.
01:18:45And it was tough.
01:18:46But you know, now I walk over it.
01:18:48Now I need a bigger challenge.
01:18:49I need a bigger bridge.
01:18:50Hell yeah.
01:18:50Maybe it's worth the Washington Bridge.
01:18:52Maybe the Golden Gate Bridge.
01:18:54I need a bigger bridge to walk.
01:18:56Yep.
01:18:56What about this, Frank?
01:18:57When, because again, like we said, no days off, always getting done, no excuses.
01:19:01For anybody out there struggling for motivation, they don't, you know, they're not feeling it
01:19:05the other day.
01:19:06What's kind of your process?
01:19:07Where do you put your mind to get yourself to get up and do the work every day?
01:19:12I just kind of keep going because if I stop, I'm afraid I'll just, I'll lapse back into
01:19:19my bad habits.
01:19:20Speak in progress.
01:19:21So just keep going.
01:19:23If you're out there, Frank's story is inspiring.
01:19:25Go check it out.
01:19:26Frank, hey, who knows, man?
01:19:28Maybe the Mets get good.
01:19:29Andy Green, Andy Green, they're officially underway, dude.
01:19:33Yeah, I don't know if he's a stopgap or not.
01:19:35I mean, he has 81 games to show if he deserves a shot permanently.
01:19:41All right.
01:19:42We'll see.
01:19:42Thank you, Frank.
01:19:43Thank you, Frank.
01:19:44All right.
01:19:45Thanks, Frank.
01:19:45All your dreams, Frank.
01:19:46Carlos Mendoza fired as a Mets manager.
01:19:49All right.
01:19:50Coming up next, let's close out the show.
01:19:51If you want to get involved, hashtag AskWub on Twitter.
01:19:54Plus, we got our NFL wheel coming up.
01:19:58More.
01:19:59Wake Up Barstool here on FS1.
01:20:01Send you off into the weekend.
01:20:06What's happening, y'all?
01:20:07Welcome back to Wake Up Barstool.
01:20:08You know what that is.
01:20:09That's the NFL topic wheel where we put together a bunch of, you know, evergreen NFL conversations
01:20:17for this offseason.
01:20:17Let's spin the wheel and see what fate wishes us to discuss.
01:20:23Oh, Fortuna, what dost thou have for us today?
01:20:27Will?
01:20:27Will.
01:20:28Broncos.
01:20:29Will the Broncos?
01:20:30Will the Broncos be that good again?
01:20:33Okay.
01:20:33It's a great question.
01:20:34The Broncos maybe would have played for a Super Bowl if not for Bo Nix snapping his leg.
01:20:42They seemingly got better.
01:20:44Got a receiver.
01:20:45Yeah.
01:20:46As the season went on, they've added guys.
01:20:49I'm going to say yes.
01:20:50I'm going to say yes as well.
01:20:52I agree.
01:20:52I'm going to say at least AFC Championship.
01:20:55I agree.
01:20:56Really?
01:20:56Nice and early for you.
01:20:57I have still, I shouldn't, but I still have this little small bit of reservation.
01:21:03On Bo Nix?
01:21:04Only because it's like, is there a regression coming?
01:21:07Obviously, we've seen him really screw up in the past.
01:21:11We've seen it.
01:21:12So, it's like we saw this immaculate season until the injury.
01:21:16I would love to see him continue to play as well, if not better.
01:21:20But there's like a tiny little part of me that's like, man, can he redo what he did?
01:21:26I actually see.
01:21:27So, it's funny.
01:21:28Bo Nix is not reason number one why I think the Broncos would be good again.
01:21:31Reason number one is the defense.
01:21:32Yeah.
01:21:32Defense was unbelievable last year.
01:21:34I see no reason why that's going to change.
01:21:35It'll probably only get better.
01:21:37But it is kind of the same logic with Bo Nix.
01:21:39He, and I was Bo Nix hater number one.
01:21:42Yeah.
01:21:42I was right there with you.
01:21:43It started in college.
01:21:44I was advocating for Jay Daniels.
01:21:46I was shocked when they drafted him there.
01:21:48Won't push the ball downfield.
01:21:50Only last year, he started to push the ball downfield.
01:21:53And he was making massive plays.
01:21:54And he got better in the fourth quarters of games.
01:21:57Yeah.
01:21:57Like, his ability to show up when it mattered most.
01:21:59And I don't see, with Sean Payton, by his side, adding offensive weapons,
01:22:05I don't see what the path to regression is.
01:22:08No, I would agree with that.
01:22:09I think it's just, again, the college aspect.
01:22:12I'm just.
01:22:13You're holding on to the Auburn year.
01:22:14Yeah.
01:22:14Yeah.
01:22:15But, again, that's just a personal bias, I think,
01:22:18that I'm keeping really, really deep down.
01:22:21Well, yeah.
01:22:21I mean, he beat LSU in Death Valley.
01:22:24It was brutal.
01:22:24I'll never forget it.
01:22:25Fourth and three, Bo Nix.
01:22:26It was unbelievable that night.
01:22:27All right.
01:22:27Let's spin it again.
01:22:28So, wait, are we consensus?
01:22:29Broncos?
01:22:30Yeah, they'll be in the mids.
01:22:31Yeah, I think so.
01:22:32It's going to be a tough schedule.
01:22:35Playing the NFC West is tough.
01:22:38That is, that is.
01:22:39But, again, that defense, that defense combined with Bo Nix's fourth quarter success.
01:22:45And Sean Payton.
01:22:46Will set them up, yes.
01:22:47And one of the most competent coaches in the entire league.
01:22:49Maybe.
01:22:49Should set them up.
01:22:50Maybe he's just good.
01:22:51Who, Bo Nix?
01:22:51Maybe.
01:22:52No, he is.
01:22:52I finally accepted it.
01:22:53Like, I was wrong.
01:22:54Yeah.
01:22:54Hand up.
01:22:55We got to eat crow.
01:22:56Maybe Bo Nix is just good.
01:22:57Dude, old quarterbacks.
01:22:59Old quarterbacks are in, dude.
01:23:01Bo Nix.
01:23:02Tyler.
01:23:02Tyler Shuck.
01:23:03Right?
01:23:04That's why I'm not worried if a guy's.
01:23:06They're like 25.
01:23:07Yeah, but I mean, you know.
01:23:08But if I'm in or they need, dude.
01:23:10Yeah, I know.
01:23:11So much gets made of like, oh, well, you know, he's going to be like 29 by the time
01:23:15to type for a second contract.
01:23:16But that experience also gives them a leg up in terms of finding immediate success.
01:23:21I like this wheel.
01:23:22I like this.
01:23:23This is nice.
01:23:25All right.
01:23:25What do we got here today?
01:23:30Sticking in the AFC.
01:23:32Can CJ Stroud quiet the downers?
01:23:35No.
01:23:35No, he stinks.
01:23:37He's terrible.
01:23:38He cannot.
01:23:39Yeah.
01:23:39He's bad.
01:23:40Yeah, he's kind of like the inverse Knicks.
01:23:42Yeah, honestly.
01:23:43That first year was like, oh, they found something.
01:23:46And then he, it was really ever since he little broed Caleb.
01:23:49I was going to say, are you just speaking out of bias here because he tried to sun Caleb?
01:23:53I mean, did anybody watch the game against the Patriots?
01:23:56That was like one of the worst quarterback performances I've ever seen.
01:23:59He legitimately should have been.
01:24:01It's like, why not at least try and see what Davis wants to do?
01:24:05What is that?
01:24:06What is that?
01:24:07I will say.
01:24:08Aaron it out and crossing his fingers.
01:24:10Whatever he does, though.
01:24:13What a pass.
01:24:13I miss football.
01:24:14Whatever he does from like a leadership standpoint and a day-to-day basis, obviously the Texans
01:24:21organization believes in him.
01:24:23Yeah.
01:24:24Maybe to a fault.
01:24:25But make no mistake, this is CJ Stroud's referendum year.
01:24:30Like, this is going to be the year that officially decides whether or not he is that guy we saw
01:24:36year one.
01:24:36Unfortunately, I'm not going to give him the benefit of the doubt.
01:24:41He's going to have to prove me wrong.
01:24:42I say no.
01:24:43CJ Stroud, not going to quiet the doubters.
01:24:45He's not good.
01:24:46He's unfortunately not good.
01:24:47I think we'll see a couple like, you know, superstar like games, but I don't think it's going to be
01:24:51enough.
01:24:52Well, and he's going to be in the hyper spotlight too because their defense is super good.
01:24:57They're insane.
01:24:58And so, like, he is the element that decides whether or not they get there.
01:25:01Right.
01:25:01Does he finish the year as their starter?
01:25:06He doesn't have a very long leash.
01:25:07That's what I mean.
01:25:08I don't think he has a long leash here.
01:25:11I'm going to say yes, but he's still not going to play well enough for everybody to fully believe in
01:25:19him.
01:25:19But I don't think he's going to get benched.
01:25:21We'll see.
01:25:22All right.
01:25:23Let's look at today's World Cup games, guys.
01:25:25The group stage is today or tomorrow last day?
01:25:28Tomorrow.
01:25:29Tomorrow's the last day.
01:25:30So, we've got six more today.
01:25:31Six more tomorrow.
01:25:32Then we'll be all done today, 2 p.m.
01:25:35The big one, Chief.
01:25:37Yeah, I'm excited for this.
01:25:38Central, I should say.
01:25:39Sorry.
01:25:393 p.m. Eastern on Fox.
01:25:40Norway, France, dude.
01:25:42Holland and Boppen.
01:25:43Oh, my God.
01:25:43That's star power for days.
01:25:45That's going to be a fun game.
01:25:46I like both teams to score in that.
01:25:48Oh, my goodness.
01:25:48France really hasn't been challenged at all.
01:25:50So many games.
01:25:51So many games.
01:25:53Because they have to, like, there's been corruption in the past where teams don't try in the last leg because
01:25:57they know the results.
01:25:58So, they make everybody play simultaneously.
01:26:01Simultaneously.
01:26:01This is fun.
01:26:02Yeah.
01:26:03It's nonstop until late into the night.
01:26:06The only thing that sucks about this is I can already feel the withdrawals kicking in.
01:26:09Yeah.
01:26:10Where it's been so nice to know that at any time during the day, especially since it's in North America,
01:26:14the time's been great.
01:26:15I can just sit there and turn it up.
01:26:16What is this?
01:26:18We said no, ask Wubb, dude.
01:26:20What is this?
01:26:21Okay.
01:26:21Scooty Scoo.
01:26:22Is T-Bob overcompensated with the outfit?
01:26:24I thought he was Team Australia.
01:26:25Pick a side, dude.
01:26:25No, guys.
01:26:26I was never Team Australia.
01:26:28I was just trying to establish.
01:26:30You're a socceroo.
01:26:31You love Australia.
01:26:31No, I was just trying to establish the stakes of play and that it was a good Aussie team that
01:26:36we were going to have to bring in.
01:26:36And we did.
01:26:37Okay?
01:26:38And I'm not worried about last night.
01:26:40We're on to bid.
01:26:42Bosnia.
01:26:43Boo.
01:26:43You're next.
01:26:44Okay?
01:26:44Did Australia go through?
01:26:45Are you happy about that?
01:26:47Did they end up getting through?
01:26:48I think they're right.
01:26:49They did end up getting through.
01:26:50Frikey.
01:26:50I don't think it's true.
01:26:51Shout out my guy, Patrick Beach.
01:26:53Super pumped for Beach.
01:26:55All right, guys.
01:26:56This is going to be my last time.
01:26:57Oh, I don't see my name down there.
01:26:59Guys, in the courtesy.
01:27:00Oh, interesting.
01:27:02Oh, yeah.
01:27:04Okay.
01:27:04Well, once again, BZ, the credit.
01:27:06Whatever, dude.
01:27:0712 million views.
01:27:07I don't care.
01:27:08Shout out to Adrian Brzezinski.
01:27:09We didn't even talk about that.
01:27:10He got to meet the Pope.
01:27:11There you go.
01:27:12Good for him.
01:27:14Good job, Connor.
01:27:15All right, we love you guys.
01:27:16We'll see you Monday.
01:27:16More Wake Up Postal.
01:27:18After show next.
01:27:19You too.
01:27:28You too.
