Wake Up Barstool
Transcript
00:00:01What's happening, guys? It is Wednesday's Wake Up Barstool.
00:00:04We've got to recap the All-Star Game 250 celebrating America last night in Philly as the AL dominates.
00:00:11Speaking of domination, Spain, a masterful performance to punch their ticket to the FIFA World Cup final.
00:00:19We'll preview another bitter semifinal today with England and Argentina.
00:00:24We've got the baseball bonanza. We've got to talk a little golf.
00:00:27We've got a lot to get to on today's Wake Up Barstool.
00:00:51Welcome in to today's Wake Up Barstool.
00:00:55And now it's time for your starting lineup on the panel.
00:00:59And we start with the Philadelphia native, the ginger thief who loves to steal tweets.
00:01:06It's the one and only Connor Griffin.
00:01:15Next up, it's the tiniest man with the baseball plan.
00:01:20You know him, you love him.
00:01:22Unless you're a Fox Sports executive who did not jack at him.
00:01:26It's Evan Bosenko.
00:01:32And look at this guy.
00:01:34He's jacked, blacked, and altogether not whack.
00:01:38It's Kyle Bauer.
00:01:44And here he is, guys, the star of the show.
00:01:48He's hornery, thornery, and altogether hornery.
00:01:52It's Brandon freaking Walker.
00:01:58Walker.
00:02:02Brandon would absolutely be the one to get booed.
00:02:06And every trivia live show he does.
00:02:10There he is, guys.
00:02:11He's the heel.
00:02:12Host of.
00:02:13The resale value on that.
00:02:14The Brandon Walker College football show.
00:02:16Very excited for that.
00:02:18Cannot wait.
00:02:18Guys, we look great today.
00:02:20Look at this panel.
00:02:21We really look good.
00:02:22Shout out to Fox for these All-Stars.
00:02:24Yep.
00:02:24Last night, America 250th birthday.
00:02:27What's it say on the back?
00:02:28Ring the bell, right?
00:02:29Ring the bell.
00:02:29With the Liberty Bell.
00:02:30So sick.
00:02:31Absolutely.
00:02:33Thank you to Fox for sending it to the whole Wednesday crew.
00:02:36Can't wait for your guys' baseball segment later.
00:02:38That's going to be a ton of fun.
00:02:38I'm gone in the second hour, by the way.
00:02:41Why?
00:02:41I got a thing.
00:02:42Are you upset that you didn't get a once-in-a-lifetime jacket
00:02:45to commemorate a once-in-a-lifetime moment?
00:02:46No, not even a little bit.
00:02:48Not even a little bit.
00:02:49Not even a little bit, Bobby.
00:02:51This is a sweet jacket.
00:02:52Also, you're not going to sign the thing?
00:02:53Yeah, yeah.
00:02:54I'm going to sign the thing.
00:02:54So then we can auction it off to no one.
00:02:56All right, cool.
00:02:57You think Darren Revelle was just sitting at home last night
00:02:59watching that intro, just thinking like,
00:03:00God, the resale value.
00:03:02Yeah.
00:03:02Did he tweet about it?
00:03:04No, but it seems like something he wasn't worried about.
00:03:07Yeah.
00:03:07I thought about it, so you know Revelle thought about it.
00:03:10What's going on, though, boys?
00:03:11How are we feeling today?
00:03:12Hey, friend.
00:03:13A little cold.
00:03:14I could use a jacket.
00:03:15Yeah, yeah.
00:03:16It is a little chilly in here.
00:03:17I thought, look, I thought that was great last night
00:03:20of the All-Star game.
00:03:21Yeah.
00:03:21And then after that, well, the guy Sanchez blows it.
00:03:26The extras were good.
00:03:27The extra, the Sandlot thing.
00:03:28Yes.
00:03:29The extra stuff was good.
00:03:31The big thing.
00:03:32Unfortunately, the game didn't really live up to it.
00:03:33The National League didn't show up.
00:03:35No.
00:03:35The pomp and circumstance was there.
00:03:37Yeah.
00:03:38And I'm a big pomp and circumstance guy.
00:03:40PNC.
00:03:40PNC.
00:03:41Felt like it was, you know, the 250th birthday of America.
00:03:44It was great to have it in Philly and all the extra stuff.
00:03:46It felt like that?
00:03:46It did.
00:03:47Listen, I felt more patriotic watching this
00:03:50than I did during my July 4th weekend here in Chicago
00:03:52just because you couldn't see the fireworks
00:03:54and they'd be pure at all.
00:03:55But I'm saying you watch this and it's like, yes,
00:03:57America, baseball, America's pastime,
00:03:59everything around it was great,
00:04:01but you're right, Brandon, the game itself really kind of.
00:04:03Well, I mean, the Phillies no-showed.
00:04:05Sanchez.
00:04:05That was a big thing.
00:04:06Terrible to start and then every Phillies hitter
00:04:08gets up there and it's terrible.
00:04:10And I'd rather Christopher Sanchez save his best stuff
00:04:12for when it actually matters in the regular season.
00:04:15Like when he's facing the Kansas City Royals.
00:04:16Well, okay, yeah.
00:04:17Yeah.
00:04:18He allows nine runs, but of course you had to bring that up.
00:04:21Are you prepared to deal with an angry Evo?
00:04:22No, he's really angry today.
00:04:24I know.
00:04:24I'm a short, angry man.
00:04:27Napoleon complex, they call that?
00:04:29Yep.
00:04:29Actually, that will not be our only reference.
00:04:31Dynamite!
00:04:32That will not be our only reference to Napoleon on today's show.
00:04:35Might come up in a little World Cup talk a bit later on.
00:04:38So, you know, you get on the other side of these events
00:04:40and you try to ask, like, questions like,
00:04:43okay, what's our takeaway here?
00:04:45Brandon, is the pitching just too good for the All-Star game?
00:04:48Well, I mean...
00:04:59No.
00:05:00No.
00:05:00Pitching has been elite since the dawn of time.
00:05:03It's just one of those nights where the pitching did, in fact,
00:05:06beat the hitting.
00:05:07But we've had elite pitching versus elite hitting forever.
00:05:09And sometimes it goes hitting, sometimes it goes pitching.
00:05:12It's just the National League seems to no-show this thing
00:05:16more often than they show it.
00:05:18It always seems like the team that comes out and gets shut out
00:05:22or scores one run or doesn't do anything,
00:05:24it's the National League.
00:05:25And I don't understand why.
00:05:26What was the run in the early 2000s?
00:05:29It was something like 13 or 14 straight All-Star games?
00:05:31Yeah.
00:05:32Right now it's 11 of 13 for the AL.
00:05:35I'm guessing one of the National League's only wins
00:05:37would have been last year with the swing-off, right?
00:05:40The Schwartz.
00:05:40Last year was electric.
00:05:41So that was going to be my point as well.
00:05:43Let's not be too prisoner of the moment.
00:05:45Yeah, last night's game was a bit tepid, a bit boring.
00:05:48But last year we had, like, one of the best ever.
00:05:50So to Brandon's point, it's just kind of the day at the ballpark, dude.
00:05:53Hey, you know what that is?
00:05:55It's baseball.
00:05:56Yeah.
00:05:56It's baseball.
00:05:57That's baseball.
00:05:57What are you going to do?
00:05:58And I don't know that the quality of an All-Star game really matters at all.
00:06:01It's an exhibition where you get together.
00:06:03And I do like that we're wearing the right uniforms
00:06:05and we look like we ought to look during an All-Star game.
00:06:09Fox was able to try out some things.
00:06:11You know, with Schwarber doing the interview during the at-bat.
00:06:14I love live mic-up players.
00:06:16It's not for me, but I will stand back as everybody else enjoys it.
00:06:19I don't like the hitter as much,
00:06:21but the pitcher-catcher relationship was pretty interesting.
00:06:23I like that one.
00:06:24They were just season-lang-lears were just doing the pitch-com,
00:06:27but, like, covered in their faces.
00:06:28And it was, like, kind of interesting to see their thought process.
00:06:31And I encourage Fox to do all the experimenting, you know,
00:06:34mic-up everybody.
00:06:35It's fine.
00:06:36It's just the hitter wasn't for me, but it's fine.
00:06:39Yeah, Bryce Harper being like, this guy's nasty.
00:06:42Yeah.
00:06:42And he strikes out, I told you guys.
00:06:44I mean, what do you want me to do?
00:06:46As a Phillies fan, I am going to blame it on the mic-ed-up that they got out.
00:06:50Because Schwarber also was mic-ed up later in the game,
00:06:52and he wound up grounding out to second base.
00:06:54So I will use that.
00:06:55But at the same time, if Schwarber had homered,
00:06:58then I would have also given credit to the mic-ed-up.
00:07:00That would have been sick.
00:07:00It would have been awesome, but unfortunately it didn't happen.
00:07:03Was the pressure in the moment too big for the Philadelphia Phillies this week?
00:07:06No.
00:07:06Looked like it.
00:07:07I mean, look at Schwarber.
00:07:08I mean, Schwarber out in the first round.
00:07:09Schwarber collapsed.
00:07:10I mean, Schwarber blows such a big lead in the home-run derby final.
00:07:13He blows a big lead as if he had any, any, like, control over that situation in the derby.
00:07:18He did. He could have hit more homers.
00:07:19That's the ultimate goal.
00:07:20True.
00:07:20Yeah.
00:07:21He could have hit more.
00:07:22What did the Phillies hitters go last night?
00:07:23I combined, like, 0 for 31 of them.
00:07:25Yeah, 0 for 31.
00:07:26Yes.
00:07:26Like, maybe the fans of Philadelphia should have done what they do best
00:07:30and booed their players last night to get more out of them.
00:07:33Because that was a weak performance from the Phillies.
00:07:34Jesus Lizardo, great on the mound.
00:07:37Johan Duran, great on the mound.
00:07:40As long as.
00:07:41Everybody else hitting, yeah, it was a little bit rough.
00:07:43As long as Junior Camonero emerges from this without injury,
00:07:46which the x-rays are negative, so that's good.
00:07:48Then tonight was a fun, or then last night was a fun night.
00:07:50You know, no harm, no foul.
00:07:52Not the best game.
00:07:53But like you said, the PNC was great.
00:07:56Uniforms, very cool.
00:07:58Underwhelming MVP.
00:07:59Shout out Bellinger.
00:08:00Was it the two-ribby single?
00:08:02Yeah.
00:08:02Ends up taking the day because you can't really point to any single pitcher to give it to.
00:08:07But still a good night of baseball.
00:08:09And look, maybe the last All-Star game that we have before a potential lockout.
00:08:15Yeah.
00:08:15Kind of the dirty undercurrent behind the setting.
00:08:19Like the 1994 All-Star game.
00:08:20Is Cody Bellinger putting together one of the best resumes for a guy who's pretty good?
00:08:27He's a solid player.
00:08:28MVP.
00:08:29All-Star game MVP.
00:08:31I don't know if he's won a World Series.
00:08:32I don't think he has.
00:08:34COVID maybe?
00:08:35COVID World Series.
00:08:36Is he on that team?
00:08:36Yeah, I believe so.
00:08:37Okay, World Series champion, MVP, All-Star game MVP.
00:08:41He's not a guy you think of as somebody who has all those accolades, but he all of a sudden
00:08:45has all those accolades.
00:08:46Yeah, also he had that one little downturn and everyone was like, oh, his career's over.
00:08:50He was like 26 when that happened.
00:08:52Yeah.
00:08:52So he's had like a long and successful tenure now with the Yankees, Cubs, and Dodgers.
00:08:59That is a shocking thing that I'm looking at right there.
00:09:02The fourth Yankee to win the All-Star MVP?
00:09:03Yeah, the first Yankee won it in 2000.
00:09:06Good point.
00:09:06The All-Star game started, I believe, in 1933 or 1934.
00:09:11One of those.
00:09:11It was in Chicago, the first one.
00:09:12It was in Comiskey Park.
00:09:13Everybody knows that.
00:09:14Anyway, it went 67 years or 57.
00:09:19It went 67 years without a Yankee winning the MVP?
00:09:22And the first MVP was, of course, we all know this.
00:09:25It was in Comiskey Park in Chicago in 1933.
00:09:26The MVP was, of course.
00:09:28They didn't give out.
00:09:28So the first MVP started in 62, but still to your point, so that we're talking about 38 years.
00:09:34I mean, it's not unlike the fact that...
00:09:36So we went through Mantle.
00:09:37We went through Maris.
00:09:38We went through Reggie Jackson.
00:09:40We went through Dave Winfield.
00:09:41We went through Don Matley.
00:09:42And never a Yankee MVP.
00:09:43That's pretty shocking.
00:09:44I mean, look at Jordan Walker, right?
00:09:45We went through Albert Pujols, hitting over 700 career home runs, never taking home run derby.
00:09:50And then Walker, thanks to the magenta ball and clutch hitting, gets it done in that stadium.
00:09:55Look, again, the All-Star game, maybe a little bit desired, but the home run derby, in terms of quality,
00:10:01I thought was a smashing success.
00:10:04Home run derby was amazing.
00:10:05Yeah.
00:10:06Great format.
00:10:07A little tight on camera angles sometimes.
00:10:09Yeah.
00:10:09But outside of that...
00:10:10A little tight, yeah.
00:10:10I think you only need three camera angles for the home run derby.
00:10:14People talking about last night, Junior Kaminaro, I want to go back to that.
00:10:17But some people floated the idea of sitting out an All-Star game.
00:10:21Like the way the NFL players don't participate in the Pro Bowl.
00:10:25Ray Fossey almost died on the field.
00:10:27Yeah.
00:10:28And we kept playing...
00:10:29Do not sit out the All-Star game.
00:10:31Yeah, that's true.
00:10:32No, it's baseball, dude.
00:10:33The risk level, I mean, it can happen.
00:10:36Yeah.
00:10:36But the risk level is low enough.
00:10:38You have the opportunity to play in the All-Star game.
00:10:39You play in the All-Star game.
00:10:40You have to be like a hypochondriac at that point.
00:10:42Yeah.
00:10:42Don't go outside.
00:10:43Don't touch a blade of grass because, like, you're too scared to get hurt.
00:10:45That being said, it looks like he's going to be fine.
00:10:48But the idea of Junior Kaminaro missing six weeks of action because a reliever from the
00:10:54Cardinals went up and in during a meaningless exhibition would be hard to swallow if you're
00:10:58a race fan.
00:10:59Yeah, it's tough.
00:10:59If you're a race fan, you're terrified.
00:11:01Luckily, there are no race fans.
00:11:04There doesn't seem to be many.
00:11:06But before Ibo really just completely broke apart my segue to open up the Home Run Derby
00:11:15conversation, Connor, I really want to get to this.
00:11:19Guys, Ibo's hard to deal with today.
00:11:20I don't know what to say.
00:11:21I've been told that you have some Home Run Derby thoughts that you have to get off your
00:11:25chest.
00:11:26No, it's just I agreed with the camera angles.
00:11:28I thought it was a great spectacle.
00:11:30The Philly fans, I thought, made it an unbelievable event.
00:11:34I agree.
00:11:35Yes, it was such a great atmosphere and people talk about the booing and blah, blah, blah,
00:11:40blah, blah.
00:11:41Like it was a very passionate night of baseball and appreciation and Kyle Schwarber put on
00:11:47a hell of a show.
00:11:48I don't know exactly if that last pitch to Jordan Walker was a magenta ball, but that
00:11:54being said, he did hit like three or four magenta balls for Home Runs before that.
00:11:58So you really can't pick straws at it.
00:12:00You know, it was a great night.
00:12:01And as Ibo said, the format spectacular, it was an awesome, awesome event.
00:12:07And I really hope they stick with this moving forward because they tried tinkering with this
00:12:10too much in previous years, the format of the Derby and, oh, we're going to put a clock
00:12:15on it and everything.
00:12:17Just putting it untimed and being able to admire every single swing, seeing how far it
00:12:21goes.
00:12:21I think the balls might have been juiced this year.
00:12:23Balls were flying like 470 feet nonstop.
00:12:26They put a new, my tinfoil hat is on, I think they put a new baseball in about three weeks
00:12:30ago.
00:12:32Ball's been popping out of the park.
00:12:34Can I talk to Ibo real quick?
00:12:35Yeah, go ahead.
00:12:35It was me and Ibo.
00:12:36Did he, did Connor really cry about maybe the last ball not being a magenta ball?
00:12:41Like, ooh, I got lost, it wasn't a magenta ball.
00:12:43What did I say right afterwards?
00:12:45I said, in fairness, Jordan Walker did hit three or four magenta balls.
00:12:48This was me and Ibo's segment.
00:12:50Yeah.
00:12:50No, you pulled a classic, like, well, I'm not, I'm not going to talk about it.
00:12:53Right.
00:12:53But like, let me talk about it real quick.
00:12:55Hey, Kyle.
00:12:56Let me just show that we're displaced.
00:12:57What's up, fam?
00:12:58What's up?
00:12:59Did you guys like the comedic aspect of the broadcast?
00:13:03Hmm.
00:13:05Um.
00:13:06Of the Home Run Derby?
00:13:07Yes.
00:13:08I thought, I, it, it may be, I wasn't as incensed as some people appeared to be.
00:13:13Will Ferrell is finished.
00:13:14But I thought, I thought, I thought it landed a bit flat, I would say.
00:13:17Yeah.
00:13:17Ferrell, Ferrell being finished is a rough take.
00:13:20I mean, I, I don't agree with that.
00:13:22Sometimes you kind of have the, you have the material that you have to work with and maybe
00:13:27you're thrust into a position that isn't necessarily in your wheelhouse and, you know, you're, you're,
00:13:32you're, you're not at your peak.
00:13:33That was his wheelhouse.
00:13:35Was it not?
00:13:36What?
00:13:36Doing like a.
00:13:37What he's been doing for years.
00:13:38The player in throws.
00:13:39Yeah.
00:13:40What?
00:13:40He, he did player in throws as Ron Burgundy 20 years ago.
00:13:43Mm-hmm.
00:13:44Yeah.
00:13:44But is that like, is that what like stands out in your head as being like the best Will
00:13:48Ferrell?
00:13:48Well, no, but I, I, I think that's pretty comfortably in his wheelhouse.
00:13:50That's something he is, is historically, just get out there.
00:13:53So you're, you're declaring him done then?
00:13:55The emo declared him done.
00:13:56No, I, I just said I couldn't fathom, it was hard to fathom how, how great he was watching
00:14:01him in that moment.
00:14:01Mm-hmm.
00:14:02Another thing I saw, Brent, I was consuming a, a rival media company, I won't say the
00:14:05name, uh, content from them, that you, you like to enjoy this company.
00:14:09They were talking about, uh, another guy of a similar age and superstardom being done.
00:14:15They talked about The Rock.
00:14:16Oh.
00:14:17They were going through The Rock's catalog and they were saying that The Rock was done.
00:14:21Well, first of all.
00:14:21So is it possible that we've, we're just getting old where The Rock and Will Ferrell are past
00:14:28their primes?
00:14:29Is it over?
00:14:29Or, well, yeah, yeah, it, okay, yeah, all right, all right, all right, all right, all
00:14:35right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right.
00:14:37But.
00:14:37I like both those guys.
00:14:38Using The Rock, a 55-year-old man to sell, to sell a kid's movie to eight-year-olds is
00:14:44probably not the best idea.
00:14:46Probably not the best idea.
00:14:47Eight-year-olds don't care about The Rock.
00:14:48The entire conception of making a live action, Moana wasn't the best idea.
00:14:54It's a 10-year-old movie.
00:14:56It's not that old.
00:14:57And also, it's a movie that requires so much CGI that it's still basically animated.
00:15:04Yeah.
00:15:04It kind of drives me crazy a little bit.
00:15:06Yeah.
00:15:07That said.
00:15:08It couldn't be real action like Blind King.
00:15:10I'm probably going to end up in the theater watching it with my kids, meaning I'm probably
00:15:15going to have another year in which my Spotify rap is led by how far I'll go.
00:15:20What these are the primes.
00:15:21Say, accept, you're welcome.
00:15:24All right, guys.
00:15:24Let's talk some footy coming up next.
00:15:26Spain dominates France.
00:15:33The World Cup semifinals continue today on Fox.
00:15:37Jude Bellingham in England look to knock off the defending champs of Messi and Argentina.
00:15:42Pre-game begins at 1 p.m. Eastern, and it's all today on Fox.
00:15:48So that right there is a bitter rivalry that we'll get into.
00:15:54But yesterday, we were treated to two absolute heavyweights doing battle in Spain versus France.
00:16:02And my God, Brandon, a Spanish masterpiece was laid out in front of our eyes.
00:16:08You ever soft launch a take and then regret it afterwards?
00:16:11Yeah, absolutely.
00:16:12Sure.
00:16:12Because I really felt like Spain, who has been very underwhelming in the tournament so far,
00:16:18and France, who's been very overwhelming, it just felt like Spain was going to have something for them.
00:16:22Like Spain was about to play to the level that Spain was the favorite coming into this tournament,
00:16:27and it switched about halfway through, and France became the overwhelming favorite.
00:16:31And there we go.
00:16:32Spain comes out.
00:16:33France can do nothing.
00:16:34France gets nothing.
00:16:35France has nothing.
00:16:37Spain owns France.
00:16:38Spain legally owns France now.
00:16:40So it is interesting to me, this idea...
00:16:43They beat them every time they play them, right?
00:16:45Yeah, they beat them.
00:16:46I think they beat them...
00:16:47Five out of the last six?
00:16:48...the last 24 Euro.
00:16:50They're now unbeaten for 37 straight games.
00:16:53Wow.
00:16:53Which ties a men's international record.
00:16:56They've given up one goal in this tournament.
00:16:57Am I right about that?
00:16:58Yes.
00:16:59So that's what I was going to get at, is we've talked about a lot in this tournament
00:17:03about how offense has been the star.
00:17:06Yeah.
00:17:06Dominating.
00:17:07Well, it turns out, guys, defense stills win championship.
00:17:10And this is my deal.
00:17:11Was Spain underwhelming, or is it just a defensive team?
00:17:16And like yesterday, me and my dad were watching the game, and I'm kind of thinking, because
00:17:20my American brain, I'm like, the problem...
00:17:23Or not the problem.
00:17:24But the difference is, in American football, when a defense dominates, it's a bit more visceral,
00:17:29and you feel it because they're dictating the terms of engagement.
00:17:32A lot of this felt like watching a prime Floyd Mayweather, where he just can't be hit, almost
00:17:38to the point where it gets a bit boring.
00:17:40But if you really watched, it was beautiful.
00:17:43Cucurea was unbelievable.
00:17:45Like, you couldn't take them off possession.
00:17:47The connected passes were unbelievable, and how they could stream together just exhaust France.
00:17:53It was, again, a Spanish masterpiece yesterday.
00:17:56Well, I do think that, you know, not judging yesterday, I do think coming in, they were
00:18:01underwhelming through the first four or five games, because they did have the draw, and
00:18:05the Cape Verde story was awesome.
00:18:07So they shouldn't be drawing Cape Verde.
00:18:08They just shouldn't.
00:18:09And we knew it was going to be a star-driven World Cup, and Mbappe, Messi, they all lived
00:18:14up to it offensively, and Lamin-Yemal has it.
00:18:18But it didn't matter yesterday, because yesterday was a one-on-one, mano-a-mano, and they got
00:18:22them right in the middle of the field, and France could do nothing with them.
00:18:27So, again, Ibo, it's not just that Spain, again, it's like the context where, like
00:18:34you said, France, which is overwhelming offensively, what, they end up with two shots on goal yesterday?
00:18:38They couldn't breathe at times.
00:18:40Yeah, I'm just curious.
00:18:42You're more of a soccer head than I am, I would say.
00:18:44Sure.
00:18:45What do you...
00:18:47I was talking to Bobby.
00:18:49Yeah, right.
00:18:49That was between me and Bobby.
00:18:50I just said sure.
00:18:51Yeah.
00:18:52What do you make of the reward that Spain gets a PK for the France defender trying to
00:18:59clear the ball, line league?
00:19:01I think this was a heady play.
00:19:03I think it was a heady play by Lamin-Yemal.
00:19:06You think that's fair play?
00:19:07Yeah, absolutely.
00:19:08Why would it not be?
00:19:09I'm curious.
00:19:10I'm not a soccer head.
00:19:11I don't know.
00:19:11Yeah, I'm just saying, like, I don't understand any frustration with this when, to me, this
00:19:16is a football, this is a skill play and a game awareness play.
00:19:22And if anything, we should be celebrating the awareness of a Cat and Lamin-Yemal that just
00:19:27turned 19.
00:19:28And, like, he knew his goal here wasn't to play this ball and try to score.
00:19:33He was like, oh, he doesn't see me.
00:19:35I can play this ball and create an opportunity.
00:19:37And he did that.
00:19:38Like, why should we crap on great game awareness?
00:19:41So, his goal was to be Shea Gilchrist-Alexander.
00:19:44Yeah.
00:19:44His goal was to flop.
00:19:47I see.
00:19:48No, I don't see it at all that way.
00:19:50Okay.
00:19:51He took a pretty good bump.
00:19:53I mean, he got kicked to the thigh hard.
00:19:55Did he make a football move?
00:19:57Yeah, absolutely.
00:19:58I think the fact that you could sit here and try to poo-poo, again, that sort of situational
00:20:03awareness from a player at that age is kind of the height of insanity to me.
00:20:07The American in me is saying play on.
00:20:10But it's not the rules.
00:20:13I don't understand.
00:20:15And, again, I preface, I'm not a footy fan, but the American in me says that's not a
00:20:19threatening position and doesn't appear to be a football move.
00:20:22He doesn't have two hands make a turn up field.
00:20:25And the guy didn't leave with his helmet at all.
00:20:26Yeah.
00:20:26So, there's no targeting.
00:20:28So, it didn't look, it looked like just a play on to me, to be honest.
00:20:31I would give him a 15-yard penalty, but don't throw him out again.
00:20:34Yeah.
00:20:35I guess the main thing, T-Bob, is that this game very much was a defensive game.
00:20:40On top of that, soccer is a low-scoring sport as is.
00:20:44And you just gift a free penalty kick off of something.
00:20:49It's not gifted when Jamal applied the pressure to make it happen.
00:20:53Like, what are we talking about here?
00:20:54If anyone...
00:20:55Might lose my...
00:20:56They held France's offensive attack to two shots on goal.
00:20:59That guy almost snapped his leg in half.
00:21:00You're going to act like this is right in the game?
00:21:01T-Bob, I'm on your side.
00:21:03This guy almost snapped his leg in half trying to clear the ball.
00:21:06Connor, I agree with you.
00:21:07Yes.
00:21:09This is why Wake Up Barstool didn't get the World Cup bump.
00:21:12That the other shows did.
00:21:14Because of crap like this.
00:21:15So, I hope y'all are happy.
00:21:17T-Bob, I'm on your side.
00:21:18I'm fine with that being a PK from the spot the foul is committed.
00:21:22KB really is.
00:21:24Okay, great.
00:21:24Hey, what?
00:21:25Football world.
00:21:26Just in case you were wondering, Evan Bosanko is fine with that being a PK.
00:21:30If for some reason you suddenly take a free kick from inside the box.
00:21:33So, just so everybody's on the same page.
00:21:35Thank you, Evo.
00:21:36KB, where are you at?
00:21:37I'm at this is a Cape Verde story.
00:21:39Is this potentially the greatest team performance on a world stage of all time?
00:21:45I was...
00:21:46Even...
00:21:46Spain or Cape Verde?
00:21:47Cape Verde.
00:21:48Okay.
00:21:49They have the population of Springfield, Missouri, and look at what they did.
00:21:53They were great.
00:21:54Spain didn't beat them.
00:21:55That's right.
00:21:56I was thinking about it yesterday, and Cape Verde really is too.
00:21:59Like, they could have played under a banner that says, like, Pirate Nation or something.
00:22:04Because when you look at the nationalities of everybody that's on that island, it is truly like rebels, ne'er
00:22:11-do-wells.
00:22:12Like, you know, families that over time found their way to this island.
00:22:15And they're all different countries and nationalities, and then they came together and put together that performance against Spain.
00:22:20But again, the story here is Spain.
00:22:22It's not France.
00:22:24And I thought Lamin-Yemal, even though he doesn't end up scoring...
00:22:27I mean, well, he had the incredible play where he's buried off sides.
00:22:29But I thought he acquitted himself very well on this stage.
00:22:32And coming into the game, I was impressed with him, where he's out there in the media talking about, I
00:22:36ain't nervous.
00:22:37There's way harder things in this world than playing football.
00:22:40Like, we're going to be fine.
00:22:41I'm ready to go.
00:22:42France should fear us.
00:22:44And then Spain backed up all of that talk in the run-up and knocked out Deshaun and the rest
00:22:49of the French.
00:22:50May I ask a question?
00:22:51Yes, Bram.
00:22:52Hey, we're all Americans.
00:22:54Yeah.
00:22:54We're all, you know, offense kind of sells tickets.
00:22:57It's been a delightful World Cup as far as that goes with Mbappe being great, with all these stars being
00:23:02great, scoring so many goals.
00:23:03Holland becomes a huge superstar here by virtue of scoring goals.
00:23:07Spain, let's say they go win at 1-0 on Sunday.
00:23:10Is it an underwhelming finish to this thing?
00:23:13Or do we all have the maturity to tip our cap and say, wow, what a great defensive effort?
00:23:19I must be sitting on an island here.
00:23:20No, I'm asking a question.
00:23:21Yeah, no, no, for sure.
00:23:22I'm saying, but I've seen this take Bandy about that yesterday's game was boring.
00:23:26I didn't feel that at all.
00:23:28I was, there would be times where you would be watching Spain, and we said it coming in.
00:23:33Their ability to possess the ball was maybe the best attack in a potential French weakness.
00:23:40And watching them possess it at times, it was, like, when people talk about it being the beautiful game, I
00:23:45felt like I really felt it.
00:23:47I'm asking you to consider Joe casual soccer player.
00:23:51Yeah, they're going to hate it.
00:23:51Yeah, yeah.
00:23:52Okay.
00:23:52Yeah, yeah.
00:23:52I think they were going to hate it.
00:23:53Like, Connor.
00:23:54I didn't hate it.
00:23:55Shout out, Laminya Mall.
00:23:56He's friends with Olivia Rodrigo.
00:23:58And his brother rocks.
00:23:59Yeah, we love Kinyamal.
00:24:00His brother is, like, the international Rizzer.
00:24:04Do you think we care he's friends with Olivia Rodrigo?
00:24:06I'm just saying, he seems like good people.
00:24:07The people at home might.
00:24:08Yeah, exactly.
00:24:09All right, coming up next, let's talk a little Open Championship with Kyle Porter.
00:24:15All right, guys.
00:24:16So, the Open at Royal Birkdale begins tomorrow, and who better?
00:24:21That's another one of my crutch words I'm trying not to do.
00:24:24Damn it!
00:24:24That was a phrase, not a word.
00:24:25Let's welcome in our guy, Kyle Porter, a man who's written millions of words on this sport.
00:24:32Millions?
00:24:32Well, it's CBS Sports.
00:24:33Millions of words.
00:24:34That is true.
00:24:35That is true.
00:24:36Now, founder of Normal Sports.
00:24:38You can go check out the Normal Sports Golf newsletter.
00:24:40Kyle, what's up, man?
00:24:41How are we doing today?
00:24:42I'm great.
00:24:43That was a very unique intro.
00:24:44I've never had somebody say, damn it, Kyle Porter's here to talk about the Open Championship.
00:24:50That's the barstool difference right there.
00:24:53I'm going to ask you about the playing conditions right here.
00:24:58When you see the words Royal Birkdale, then you pair them with firm and fast.
00:25:03What comes to mind in terms of the unique challenges that this course is going to present this weekend?
00:25:09Yeah, I think, I mean, when you talk about, I'm going to struggle through this, but when you talk about
00:25:15firm and fast,
00:25:15it's a very, it's so different than what we get on the PGA Tour in the United States.
00:25:22And what I mean by that is PGA Tour in the United States, it's usually soft and not fast, soft
00:25:29and slow.
00:25:30And so what that, again, struggling through this after being in the break with you guys,
00:25:35but what that creates is when you're on the PGA Tour, it's these really high shots and you're just trying
00:25:41to, you know,
00:25:43stick the ball and land and stick it where it lands.
00:25:45So it doesn't move a lot.
00:25:47It doesn't move around when it's firm and fast.
00:25:49The ball's bouncing around all over the place.
00:25:51It's very difficult to control your spin.
00:25:54It's very difficult to kind of keep the ball on a string.
00:25:56And so you get guys, usually the guys that play well or that win are the guys who are in
00:26:02the most control of their golf ball throughout the week.
00:26:04And maybe that means not hitting driver on every hole.
00:26:07Maybe it means, you know, I've heard guys talk this week.
00:26:10Maybe we're going to pull back and hit four iron off the tee or five iron off the tee.
00:26:14So you're going to see a lot of variety and a lot of different things that you don't usually get,
00:26:17you know,
00:26:19on the PGA Tour on a week to week basis.
00:26:21Is there a name that you think those conditions maybe bump up more than others?
00:26:27Yeah, I mean, this is a very obvious one, but Scotty Scheffler is like the best or has been the
00:26:33best over the last three or four years at controlling his golf ball.
00:26:38You know, he is just able to hit pretty much any shot you want him to hit at any time.
00:26:44Now, the flip side with him is he gets super frustrated when he gets kind of bad bounces or bad
00:26:49breaks,
00:26:50which is basically the definition of an open championship.
00:26:53So maybe those two things cancel out.
00:26:55But, you know, I was thinking about this last week when Tom Kim won the Scottish Open.
00:26:59Tom Kim is terrible at like your traditional brawny, big kind of PGA Tour setup.
00:27:06But he's really good when you get sort of these, hey, you can run it on the ground.
00:27:11You can, you know, John Rahm was saying six irons are running out 280 yards.
00:27:16Like, he's very good when you get kind of some different conditions.
00:27:21So I think you're going to see a leaderboard, guys, that on Thursday and Friday you're staring at and you're
00:27:25like, who are some of these names?
00:27:27I've literally never heard of half these guys on this leaderboard because the conditions are so much different than what
00:27:33you get on a week-to-week basis.
00:27:35I'm going to give you a name.
00:27:37Hi, I'm Brandon Walker, the number one college football media personality in the world.
00:27:41I'm going to give you a name.
00:27:43I want you to just take it however you want.
00:27:45But I look at this tournament.
00:27:46I look where it is.
00:27:47Tommy Fleetwood.
00:27:48Thoughts?
00:27:50Well, I mean, Tommy Fleetwood is, you know, the talk this week is, hey, can England beat Argentina and then
00:27:57beat Spain?
00:27:57And Tommy Fleetwood, the World Cup Finals on Sunday, and they're even talking about moving tee times around on Sunday
00:28:05because the Open is in England.
00:28:08You don't want to, like, have a playoff while the, you know, the World Cup Finals going on.
00:28:12So there's a lot of, Tommy's from Birkdale, you know, it's the course he played growing up.
00:28:17There's a lot, there's almost too much going on with Fleetwood here.
00:28:20And look, like, he's been probably the best major player over the last five or six years that hasn't actually
00:28:25won a major.
00:28:27So I'm a little bit in a believe it when I see it mode with Tommy in terms of actually
00:28:32winning a major.
00:28:33Is he a great player?
00:28:34Yes.
00:28:35Does his kind of low ball flight and control off the tee pretend, like, really well for this championship?
00:28:42Absolutely.
00:28:43But he just, he just hasn't done it.
00:28:45And it's very difficult.
00:28:47You know, he's won one time on the PGA Tour over 150, 200, however many starts.
00:28:54And you're like, God, at some point you got to get it done, and he just hasn't yet.
00:28:57So I'm, again, believe it when I see it with Tommy.
00:29:00Kyle, I want to go back to, you were talking in the last answer about Scotty Scheffler, obviously.
00:29:05He missed the cut last week.
00:29:08Seems like the first time in forever.
00:29:09So naturally the first question has to be, is he washed?
00:29:13And secondly.
00:29:14Good question.
00:29:15Yep, yep, yep.
00:29:16Secondly, what went wrong for him necessarily last week in your eyes?
00:29:21And how does he kind of come back from that and really come back with a vengeance in this tournament
00:29:26this week?
00:29:26Yeah, for sure should retire after last week.
00:29:30It was really bad.
00:29:31It was the first cut he missed since, I looked this up.
00:29:34Taylor Swift is dating somebody named Joe Alwyn, like this British movie star, actor, I don't know, whatever.
00:29:41So it's been a very, very long time.
00:29:43I don't think Olivia Rodrigo's career had taken off yet.
00:29:45No.
00:29:46You guys were just talking about her the last time he missed a cut.
00:29:48You're a fan.
00:29:50Look at Kyle there.
00:29:51Kyle gets it.
00:29:51He did not say he was a fan.
00:29:52Kyle gets it.
00:29:54My daughter is a big fan, so I'm sort of a tangential fan.
00:29:58But Scotty's struggled more this year with his iron play than he has over the last couple years.
00:30:04And I think that was a lot of it at the Scottish Open was he just, he's not hitting his
00:30:09irons as well as he has been.
00:30:11And now the caveat there is he's still hitting his irons like a top five player in the world.
00:30:16He was just hitting them at kind of a tiger level over the last two or three years.
00:30:20And he's sort of retreated back to just being a star, you know, or just existing at kind of that
00:30:27statistical star level with a Rory, Rahm, Morikawa, those kinds of guys.
00:30:32Hovel and, you know, a lot of the names that are on this list.
00:30:35And so, yeah, like if he, he's still going to play very well, I think.
00:30:42I'm not super concerned about what happened last week affecting this week.
00:30:45It's just in my mind, he's gone from, hey, he's got like a 10 or 15% chance of winning
00:30:50this back down to where the other stars exist, which is like three or 4%.
00:30:55And so that's sort of, he's still, it's weird with him because it's all relative to where he was two
00:31:01or three years ago.
00:31:02He's still really, really good and playing at that Rory Zander, Hovland level.
00:31:07It's just, he's not having, like he's done, you know, the last two years, having one of the best seasons
00:31:13of the last 40 years.
00:31:14So I don't know if that all sort of makes sense, but I still am excited to see what happens
00:31:19with him on, you know, starting on Thursday at Burt Doe.
00:31:22Kyle, you mentioned the leaderboard could get a little wonky this weekend.
00:31:26Is there anyone in that second tier below the superstars that you could see on Sunday in the final group
00:31:33or making a push to win the Open?
00:31:36Well, the guy that's really interesting to me, and I don't know where he was, I didn't see the entire
00:31:40board there, but is Sam Burns.
00:31:42Sam Burns is not a major champion.
00:31:46He's not a huge name.
00:31:47I think he's one of the better players that doesn't get talked about a ton going into, you know, into
00:31:53these major championships.
00:31:54But he almost won the U.S. Open.
00:31:55I mean, he had a putt on 18 at Shinnecock to tie Wyndham Clark to get into a playoff.
00:32:01And I love the narrative of, hey, lost kind of a heartbreaking major, bounces back at the next one to
00:32:07win it.
00:32:09You know, it doesn't happen a ton.
00:32:11I think about Rory in 2011 when he lost the Masters, heartbreakingly came back and won the U.S. Open
00:32:16by seven or whatever that was.
00:32:19Sam Burns, between the U.S. Open and the Open, his wife had a baby, so he hasn't been playing.
00:32:23So there's a little bit of unknown there.
00:32:25But he has been an awesome, awesome major championship player this year.
00:32:29If you look at kind of aggregate score at the three majors that have been played, he's top five along
00:32:33with Scottie, Justin Rose, Rory.
00:32:37I can't remember the fifth one there.
00:32:38But those are for the top five in terms of just how well they've played across all three majors.
00:32:42So I really like the way he's playing, and I like him this week.
00:32:46Kyle, you mentioned how different this course plays.
00:32:50And so in your experience, when you're talking to these players, what about, like, the enjoyment level of that difference?
00:32:56Like, how does it compare when they get out here compared to some of these U.S. courses?
00:32:59Do they like it more or less?
00:33:01What do you think?
00:33:02I think most of them like it more.
00:33:04And the reason for that is there's just more creativity.
00:33:08You know, Scotty was talking about this on Tuesday.
00:33:11You get on the tee box, and you're like, most courses you play at, you're like, well, I'm hitting driver
00:33:16up the left side.
00:33:18Okay, so that's kind of my option.
00:33:20There's not a ton of optionality there.
00:33:22But you get in an open, especially a fast and firm one, you're like, well, I could cut a five
00:33:27iron down the right side and try to avoid that bunker.
00:33:29I could try to fly that bunker with a three wood going, you know, right to left.
00:33:32So there's a lot of different decisions that have to get made.
00:33:35And I think traditionally, or historically, in my experience in talking to these guys, the best players enjoy it more
00:33:43because they have the most variety of shots, right?
00:33:48Like, they can do the most things with the ball.
00:33:50And so they like getting over there and the creativity that it affords them.
00:33:56You know, you've seen a lot of open champions just play very creatively and very differently.
00:34:01And it's a ton of fun for us to watch, but I think it's also a ton of fun, especially
00:34:05for the top guys, to get to experience that and, you know, play a very different way than they traditionally
00:34:10play on tour.
00:34:11So I kind of love this.
00:34:12It's a great thing to watch out for this week.
00:34:14It is that creativity.
00:34:15Who's going to find avenues and stratagems that maybe others are overlooking?
00:34:20And it does pair well with a quote that Nick Faldo just gave about Bryson, about this man knows nothing
00:34:27about Lynx golf strategy.
00:34:29Your reaction to Faldo's quote and what we're going to see out of Bryson, who has struggled mightily.
00:34:35Yeah, I don't disagree with him.
00:34:39Bryson's record at the Open is so bad.
00:34:42I think he has one top ten in his career.
00:34:44I think it came at St. Andrews back in 2022.
00:34:47It is horrific.
00:34:49And I think a lot of that is because Bryson is somebody that, you know, throughout his career, I don't
00:34:57think he's necessarily a bad strategy player, but he's somebody that just is like, hey, I'm going to bang it
00:35:02as far as I can.
00:35:04Go find it.
00:35:05Hit it again.
00:35:06And that's really worked for him because, again, these PGA Tour courses and the live courses that he goes to,
00:35:13they tend to reward things like that.
00:35:15Now, the one caveat I would give is he did win the U.S. Open at Pinehurst back in 2024,
00:35:20and that was pretty fast and firm.
00:35:25I was out there.
00:35:26It was dusty.
00:35:27It was not.
00:35:27It was almost like an Open, and he ended up beating Rory there.
00:35:31And so you're like, man, what did you do there that you're not doing at some of these Open Championship
00:35:36courses?
00:35:36So, yes, I agree with Faldo, but with the caveat that he has won not an Open, but an Open
00:35:42-like tournament at Pinehurst back in 2024.
00:35:46Kyle, talk to me a bit about the Normal Sports Golf Newsletter.
00:35:49How did all of this come about when you were striking out after working for CBS for so long?
00:35:56Yeah, I was at CBS Sports for 12 years.
00:35:58Loved it.
00:35:59Great job.
00:36:00Yeah, really fun start to my career.
00:36:02But then, you know, I just, I started, I mean, the, I guess, humorous part of it is I started
00:36:08noticing all these weird things that happen in golf.
00:36:10You'll see them all week at the Open.
00:36:11You know, guys getting dumped on by birds and, you know, Bryson getting hit with a rope line.
00:36:17And, like, just a ton of just stuff that you're like, oh, that's, that does not happen at, you know,
00:36:23a baseball game or a basketball game.
00:36:25Those environments are so controlled.
00:36:27And then you see it at a golf tournament.
00:36:29You're like, there's giraffes running down the fairway at the Kenya Open.
00:36:32You're like, what are we doing?
00:36:33Like, this is crazy.
00:36:35And so I started noticing all these things and just turned it into a little bit on Twitter.
00:36:39It turned into a newsletter.
00:36:41And then it turned into a business.
00:36:42So that's what I'm running now, newsletter, podcast, social.
00:36:46And it's been a ton of fun.
00:36:47I love covering it.
00:36:48I've got a, our illustrator who kind of illustrates all the weird zany stuff that happens is actually over there
00:36:54at Birtdale right now.
00:36:55So he'll be illustrating from the course and I'll be writing from my house.
00:36:59And, yeah, we have a ton of fun doing it.
00:37:01Hell, yeah.
00:37:02See that, guys?
00:37:02No AI.
00:37:03Still human beings making drawings and everything.
00:37:06Kyle, how about this?
00:37:07I'm going to, I want to put a little quick prediction game here.
00:37:10And you can answer, like, top 10, top 20, top 40, nothing, missed cut.
00:37:14I'm going to give you four players' names.
00:37:16And I want your action.
00:37:17Let's start with Chris Goddorup.
00:37:18Where does he finish?
00:37:20Chris Goddorup is a top 10 for me.
00:37:22He is, I've gone 180 on him.
00:37:25You know, he started breaking out this time last year.
00:37:27I was like, eh, okay.
00:37:28Let's see it for a while.
00:37:30He's won four times in the last, you know, 12 and a half months.
00:37:33So, I'm all the way in on Chris Goddorup, top 10.
00:37:36Wyndham Clark.
00:37:39Wyndham Clark is going to be a, this is tough.
00:37:43He's playing really well.
00:37:45I'll say top 10 for him also.
00:37:47I mean, his, you know, the stat that I look at is strokes gained over the last 20 or 50
00:37:52rounds,
00:37:53something like that.
00:37:53Basically, how well are you playing compared to your peers going into a tournament?
00:37:57Wyndham Clark is number one over his last 20 rounds just ahead of Scotty Schuffler.
00:38:00Damn, what about Ludwig?
00:38:03Ludwig, I'll say top 20.
00:38:05He's not, he, I'm a big Ludwig believer, but he just hasn't quite been in that tier one
00:38:13of like how well he's playing over the last several months.
00:38:16I think he's going to win two or three majors in his career.
00:38:19I just don't think he's going to win this one.
00:38:21And finally, what about Justin Rose?
00:38:25Justin Rose, I want to say top twin, excuse me, top 10.
00:38:29That would be sort of the, the, the magical, you know, he made his debut here back in 1998
00:38:35when he was 17 years old, full circle to, you know, finally getting that second major.
00:38:40It's weird that he only has one.
00:38:41It's weird that Wyndham Clark has as many majors as Adam Scott and Justin Rose combined.
00:38:46That's a very strange thing because those are very elite players over the last 20 years.
00:38:53But I, I'm going to say top 20.
00:38:55I just, he's 46 years old.
00:38:57I mean, I, I don't, I don't, I don't know.
00:39:00It's just very tough to keep doing it at that level against the guys you're going up against.
00:39:05So I want to say top 10, but I'll, I'll say top 20 to kind of hedge a little bit.
00:39:09The 154th open championship getting underway at Royal Birkdale tomorrow.
00:39:14Kyle, thank you so much, man.
00:39:15Go check out thenormalsports.com.
00:39:17Thank you, Kyle.
00:39:19Anytime, guys.
00:39:20Thanks for having me.
00:39:20There he is, Kyle Porter.
00:39:22Firm and fast interview there.
00:39:25Getting you ready for the open.
00:39:26All right.
00:39:26Coming up next, Connor, time to talk some LeBron.
00:39:31Some Bronny.
00:39:31Let's close out the hour with Bron.
00:39:33No, Bron.
00:39:33LeBron.
00:39:34Not Bronny.
00:39:34Right, right, right, right.
00:39:35Not Bronny.
00:39:35LeBron.
00:39:41Welcome back to Wake Up Barstool.
00:39:43No brainer walker this week.
00:39:44To be clear, guys, we're, we're, we heard your feedback.
00:39:48You guys don't like Shannon.
00:39:49We cut him from the show.
00:39:51Yeah, exactly.
00:39:51We cut him from the show.
00:39:53Exactly.
00:39:53No, we're playing a little hurt today, right?
00:39:55Yeah.
00:39:56Brandon might have eaten some of the lettuce that's been going around.
00:39:59No.
00:40:00I've got a cold.
00:40:01I'm barely surviving coughing attacks off camera during interviews.
00:40:04Yeah.
00:40:05What, what, what were you saying, Ebo?
00:40:07You think Brandon ate lettuce?
00:40:09That's a good point.
00:40:10Yeah.
00:40:10KB, do you think Brandon ate lettuce?
00:40:12You know him well.
00:40:13Is lettuce going, is that the, the cause of the, the epidemic that's going around?
00:40:17Yes, a lot of people are pointing to lettuce, which is a, like, I find, I find this out the
00:40:22day after I went two for one on the butter lettuce because it was a BOGO deal at the
00:40:27grocery store on Sunday.
00:40:28I had my own run-in with it earlier.
00:40:31But do you think Brandon ate lettuce?
00:40:32There's no way he ate.
00:40:33That would be an anomaly that's unprecedented.
00:40:39I don't think he ate lettuce.
00:40:41So like, that would be like Cape Verde drawing Spain.
00:40:43Exactly.
00:40:43Okay, yeah, yeah.
00:40:44Which should be, yeah, they should be the winners.
00:40:47Which should have never happened.
00:40:48Right.
00:40:48Who knows?
00:40:48Maybe he ran into some lettuce on like a BLT or something.
00:40:51I like the idea that it's like December, we're going into Christmas and KB's still hyping
00:40:56up Cape Verde.
00:40:58Yeah, I am.
00:40:59Never move without this.
00:41:0020 years from now.
00:41:00500,000 people.
00:41:02Spain's going to win the World Cup and they didn't even win against Cape Verde.
00:41:08Shout out to Zeno.
00:41:09All right, let's get into LeBron James then.
00:41:10The decision 4.0 is rolling along and we did our whiteboard exercise last week.
00:41:16Great job by Connor, breaking it down.
00:41:18Yesterday, there were reports coming out that the Warriors were now the favorite, that a
00:41:24decision was imminent, imminent.
00:41:26Wow.
00:41:27That has not come to pass, but the latest reporting does seem to be that we have a triumvirate here.
00:41:34And it's kind of the expected one.
00:41:35It's Warriors, Cavs, Heat.
00:41:38That's where the focus has shifted.
00:41:39Before we get into it, let's hear from Draymond Green as he was talking about his interactions
00:41:44with LeBron as he pitched the Warriors to him.
00:41:46The pitch was crazy.
00:41:49I think I'm pretty decent at it.
00:41:52Does it change anything?
00:41:54Does it make anything happen?
00:41:55I don't know.
00:41:56I hope so.
00:41:58With the things that I shared in it, I believe it definitely is going to make the brain work
00:42:07a little bit, you know, if I don't think there's a decision that's been made, but say if there
00:42:13was, it'll make you think.
00:42:16Was the pitch crazy?
00:42:18What is the pitch?
00:42:20You're Draymond Green, you're pitching LeBron.
00:42:21What's your pitch for me to come play for you?
00:42:25That's actually such a great question because I haven't fully understood the entire time
00:42:30where the Golden State energy is coming from.
00:42:33I mean, they're all old.
00:42:34They've been doing it together forever.
00:42:35It's just to play with Steph Curry.
00:42:37That's the only pitch.
00:42:38And your career with Steph Curry.
00:42:39Steph Curry can end his with LeBron James.
00:42:41That's it.
00:42:42I just get like two of the best of their era together for one more Expendables level run
00:42:47here.
00:42:47To find a generation.
00:42:49The main thing, like people...
00:42:50NorCal as opposed to SoCal.
00:42:51Yes, people are poo-pooing this.
00:42:54And I'm in the camp now where I'm like, yeah, I want this to be over because it has dragged
00:42:58on for a little bit too long for my taste.
00:43:00But they're like, oh, it's LeBron James.
00:43:02He's 40 years old.
00:43:03Why do we care so much about this?
00:43:05We didn't get all this stuff with the original decision where LeBron's agent is going on podcasts
00:43:11and breaking down whiteboards.
00:43:12You got player-led podcasts who are sharing the pitches and everything that they're doing.
00:43:17This is all very, very fun.
00:43:18Although I would push back, I think the Philadelphia 76ers based off of the porting that I've seen
00:43:23would still be in the mix.
00:43:24Really?
00:43:25You said it's a triumvirate.
00:43:27I'm going to say it's a...
00:43:28That seems to be the accepted group thing.
00:43:30And then people tack on and maybe the Sixers and Wolves are in there as well.
00:43:34I'm going to say it's a quadrumvirate.
00:43:36A quadrangle?
00:43:38Yes.
00:43:39Perhaps a quintuple.
00:43:41If you're indeed giving the Wolves any credit in this regard.
00:43:45I'm not.
00:43:45You looking into the Rich...
00:43:46You seen any of these Rich Paul, Gary Trent Jr. tea leaves, by the way?
00:43:50No.
00:43:50You should read into some of that.
00:43:52Okay.
00:43:52You should read into some of that.
00:43:53Is there any follow-up here?
00:43:54There's some Kawhi Leonard-like stuff, maybe.
00:43:57People...
00:43:58Go look into that.
00:43:59Okay.
00:44:00I'm going to ask questions.
00:44:01It's probably going to get me yelled at for being an idiot and ignorant.
00:44:03But who's Gary Trent Jr.?
00:44:05Played at Duke.
00:44:06He currently plays for the Milwaukee Bucks.
00:44:07He just had the worst year of his career and he got the biggest contract of his career.
00:44:10Okay.
00:44:11Yeah.
00:44:11Liam was talking about this the other day.
00:44:12You might want to look into that.
00:44:14Okay.
00:44:14We'll look into it.
00:44:15Which of these outcomes to you as a casual NBA viewer is the most fun?
00:44:20Him going home to Cleveland, him returning to Miami, or him playing with Steph Curry?
00:44:24Hmm.
00:44:27I mean, it's...
00:44:28I think Cleveland checks both boxes.
00:44:31It's kind of him finishing at his hometown.
00:44:33They just laid down and mulched at his house in Akron.
00:44:36And beyond that, Cleveland is a team that has been very close.
00:44:40Like, winning playoff series.
00:44:41I'm not saying that LeBron puts him over the edge.
00:44:43But he's joined an already very competitive team.
00:44:46And so he would have a chance for a championship there, potentially.
00:44:50Even though all of these teams don't really seem like they're that close compared to some
00:44:55of the things we just saw.
00:44:55Philadelphia, 76ers.
00:44:57Yeah.
00:44:57Yeah.
00:44:57Sixers, sure.
00:44:58Sure.
00:44:59Completely on fire.
00:45:02Welcome back to Wake Up Barstool.
00:45:04It's time for Griffin's announcement.
00:45:05Real quick, Connor, you may be it.
00:45:07So wait, I was just like, oh my God, I can see The Odyssey tomorrow.
00:45:10I'm so excited.
00:45:10This jacket's way too...
00:45:12This is crazy.
00:45:13You've already seen it?
00:45:14Yes, I saw The Odyssey.
00:45:15I don't know how much I could say.
00:45:18Very, very good.
00:45:19No, forget about the critiquing of the movie.
00:45:21You got to see an early screening of The Odyssey?
00:45:23Yes.
00:45:23Why?
00:45:25I'm...
00:45:26Everybody in the company, how did you get to the hottest movie on Monday?
00:45:29I saw an early screening of The Mandalorian and Grogu, too.
00:45:31That's completely different.
00:45:33I think I might just be an early screening guy now.
00:45:36I understand the Mando Grogu stuff, but it's not this how to take it.
00:45:39Like, how in the world did you get to see The Odyssey on Monday?
00:45:41Is it because of the 50,000 new followers?
00:45:43It's because you stole Evo's tweet.
00:45:44And now you're an influencer.
00:45:46It's not because of the concrete beach tweet that I stole from Evo.
00:45:48So Evo gets no jacket.
00:45:50He doesn't get to go to the early screening of The Odyssey.
00:45:52You just get everything.
00:45:54And yet you're nice to his face as you stab him in the back.
00:45:57Evo did tell me he didn't want to see it because it was going to be too woke.
00:46:00That's what Evo did.
00:46:00He did say that.
00:46:01Oh, yeah, that's true.
00:46:01I forgot.
00:46:02He's the most right guy we got.
00:46:03He was not happy about that.
00:46:05Are they giving you free popcorn at those?
00:46:07No.
00:46:08You have to still pay for the popcorn at the early screenings?
00:46:10I got a Bavarian pretzel.
00:46:12So good.
00:46:13Why are you so weird?
00:46:14I hate you.
00:46:15It was so good.
00:46:16You're at a movie theater.
00:46:17Get popcorn.
00:46:18No, no, I got a Bavarian pretzel.
00:46:19Get popcorn and an icy cottage.
00:46:20He said pretzel, too.
00:46:20He said Bavarian.
00:46:24I didn't have dinner that night.
00:46:25And I was like, well, I think a pretzel is more of a meal than popcorn.
00:46:28So I got a big pretzel.
00:46:29Anyway.
00:46:29Okay, wait.
00:46:30No, no.
00:46:30Real quick.
00:46:31I know NDAs and all that.
00:46:32Like, thumbs up.
00:46:33Oh, yeah.
00:46:34Two thumbs up?
00:46:34Two thumbs up.
00:46:35Okay.
00:46:36Very, very much.
00:46:36All right.
00:46:37More excitement.
00:46:38All right.
00:46:38Now, time for Conor's script ins and outs.
00:46:40Conor, what are we taking into next week with us?
00:46:42And what are we leaving behind?
00:46:44Well, I think it's not necessarily this first one something that we are bringing into this week.
00:46:50It's what we are very much in right now.
00:46:53We're into it.
00:46:54We're in it.
00:46:55And I love this time of year every single year.
00:46:57It's name season.
00:46:59Name season in college football where we're getting all brushed up on the players going into this upcoming college football
00:47:05season.
00:47:05We're introduced to some wild, wild names that are just the best.
00:47:10So, King Large being one of them.
00:47:11We got Mobility as another name in college football this year.
00:47:16What else do we have?
00:47:17Dude Person is a big one.
00:47:19No way Dude Person's real.
00:47:21Dude Person has been around.
00:47:22He's an Oxford Charger?
00:47:23Yes.
00:47:24He's been around for a couple years now.
00:47:25Senior.
00:47:26And then I think, do we have one more?
00:47:27This is my favorite.
00:47:28Prayer Young Black Goat.
00:47:30And I think he also has a...
00:47:32His brother's name is Noble Young Black Goat.
00:47:34Yes.
00:47:35So, I think this is the best time of year where we get to really get into the teeth of
00:47:40college football and we see these names.
00:47:42What do you got, KB?
00:47:43I think, unfortunately, names like this have jumped the shark.
00:47:47Oh.
00:47:47They're so good that they're bad now.
00:47:50You think so?
00:47:51These guys like this and Kobe Buffalo Meat and Steve Ho-You-Fat.
00:47:55Like, it's too ridiculous.
00:47:57Bring back, like, the Spud Webs and the Latrell Sprewells.
00:48:01The ones that are just phonetically fun.
00:48:03Asterisk Tally?
00:48:04Asterisk Tally?
00:48:05There was, um...
00:48:06How dare you?
00:48:07Why?
00:48:07How dare you?
00:48:08How dare you?
00:48:08Did something bad have an asterisk Tally?
00:48:10No, but how dare you?
00:48:10Choked at the U.S. amateur.
00:48:12How dare you?
00:48:12Oh, I'm sorry.
00:48:13There was the, uh...
00:48:14Was there a guy who committed to Toledo?
00:48:17Beans Factor?
00:48:18No.
00:48:18Yeah, you're thinking of Beans Factor.
00:48:20No, no, no.
00:48:20I thought there was a guy who committed to Toledo who was named Kent Staten or something like that.
00:48:24Yeah.
00:48:25You see that?
00:48:25Tough loss.
00:48:25You're thinking of a feline poot.
00:48:27Now you're just running through all the names that we talk about on Most of Sports, which
00:48:31goes live at 10 Central.
00:48:32Shout out name season.
00:48:33Anyway, name season.
00:48:34Very much in.
00:48:36My next out, my first out, last week I talked about how I was all the way in on the
00:48:42Holland
00:48:42hysteria.
00:48:43I am all the way out on the Holland hate.
00:48:46I think he got a lot of hate and criticism after his match that he was knocked out in
00:48:51because he left the game early, unexplicably, or inexplicably, I should say.
00:48:55And people were starting to criticize and they're like, Holland, what the hell is going
00:48:58on?
00:48:58People started to turn on him a little bit.
00:49:00No, I am so in on him and I'm out on the Holland hate because he showed up back in
00:49:05Norway
00:49:05just with this stuffed raccoon.
00:49:07He got taxidermied in Texas.
00:49:08It's worth like $750.
00:49:10Well, he didn't get a taxidermied.
00:49:11But yeah, he was, was that at his hotel or a restaurant where there was a theme of taxidermied
00:49:17animals eating and drinking?
00:49:19Okay, just a store, yeah.
00:49:20Just a bottle of whiskey with a taxidermied raccoon.
00:49:23He got a bunch of stuff from Texas, these weird little knickknacks that he was obsessed
00:49:26with.
00:49:27I would have loved to have known the final price tag on all the stuff that he spent on
00:49:30in Texas.
00:49:31It must have been crazy.
00:49:32Great store name, Wild Bill's Western Store is where he picked up the raccoon for $750.
00:49:38How much does that bag cost?
00:49:40Thousands, I don't know.
00:49:41I don't know what kind of bag that is.
00:49:43Maybe you're a bag guy.
00:49:44Are you?
00:49:45A bag guy?
00:49:46You have a nice bag.
00:49:47Oh, yeah, I am.
00:49:49That was messed up.
00:49:50That was messed up for Brandon.
00:49:52Famously.
00:49:53I thought you were talking about knapsack.
00:49:54That's a bad callback.
00:49:55One of the biggest bag guys we got.
00:49:57That's a bad callback, Brandon.
00:49:58He has a bag.
00:49:59That's a bad callback.
00:50:00Yeah, that could be taken in multiple different ways, Brandon.
00:50:03Y'all have to fill me in during the break.
00:50:05In the break, yeah.
00:50:06We'll talk about it in a minute.
00:50:06Now, how about this, though?
00:50:08I love this.
00:50:10I said yesterday in Spring Bay that I believe Norway won the World Cup.
00:50:14Well, they didn't.
00:50:16But, like, did you see the parade when they got home?
00:50:18Yes.
00:50:20But it is still ridiculous and infuriating that Haaland was subbed out an extra time.
00:50:25Like, with everything on the line.
00:50:26That's crazy.
00:50:27Which.
00:50:27Especially when the man needs one touch to change everything.
00:50:30Originally, I was in your camp, T-Bob, and I was kind of turning on him a little bit.
00:50:34But then I saw that picture.
00:50:35I'm not turning on him.
00:50:36I still like Earl and Haaland, but why the hell did he come out of the game?
00:50:38You can't.
00:50:39I'll never.
00:50:39If we're going to crap all over Pulisic for going out with a microfracture and everything,
00:50:43you've got 15 minutes and extra time.
00:50:45And, again, all he needs is a moment.
00:50:47It's insane that he subbed out.
00:50:48If you caught Christian Pulisic walking around with a stuffed raccoon drinking a bottle of whiskey,
00:50:53then maybe I'd have different interpretations on the man.
00:50:56I disagree.
00:50:56I think that is, like, the scene that you referenced last week.
00:51:01The raccoon would seem a bit effed up at that point.
00:51:04If Pulisic was walking around, it would not have the charm that Haaland had with it.
00:51:10We'll see.
00:51:10A little great to disagree on that one.
00:51:12All right, what's the next end?
00:51:13My next end, it's the bubble NBA jerseys.
00:51:17They've made a comeback.
00:51:18There's a resurgence now where you've got people walking around at the NBA Summer League
00:51:22rocking Marcus.
00:51:24Is it Marcus or Markeith?
00:51:25I can't remember.
00:51:26But the education reform jerseys.
00:51:28There's another one, the vote for Millsap.
00:51:31The best one that is a holy grail jersey of mine is the Andre Iguodala Miami Heat group
00:51:37economics jersey.
00:51:38But people are trying to find these.
00:51:40They're making a comeback.
00:51:41They're very in.
00:51:42And I think we need to be seeing more of these pop up because it brings me back to times
00:51:47that just don't really make sense.
00:51:49You look back at those shirts.
00:51:50You're like, why did we do that?
00:51:51But they're fun.
00:51:52Well, why did we do that, Evo?
00:51:54There's a lot of reasons.
00:51:55What?
00:51:57You still mad about it, Evo?
00:51:58We won't get into it.
00:51:59Politics of it?
00:52:00You still mad about it, Evo?
00:52:01Am I mad about it?
00:52:03It'll be fine.
00:52:04The Odyssey's not going to be that woke.
00:52:05Yeah.
00:52:06It's not.
00:52:08Actually, I'm just glad that the NFL ended racism.
00:52:10Yes.
00:52:10Yes.
00:52:11Good for them.
00:52:12Absolutely.
00:52:12I thought David Guetta ended racism.
00:52:14They tag teamed.
00:52:15Okay.
00:52:15Yeah, tag team back again.
00:52:17There's a joint collaboration.
00:52:18Direct inlet again.
00:52:19Yeah.
00:52:21Next out.
00:52:21We'll move on to this.
00:52:22Yes, please.
00:52:24It's a mount on the fitness influencers.
00:52:27You like fitness, Brandon?
00:52:29Look at me, Connor.
00:52:30Okay.
00:52:32There's a fitness influencer who went to the World Cup.
00:52:36Oh, this guy stinks.
00:52:38Oh, this guy does stink.
00:52:39Oh, this guy.
00:52:41Yeah, I'm out on this.
00:52:42He's been doing a 5K in different ways every single day where, like, he'll run around his bed.
00:52:47He'll do whatever.
00:52:48He went to the World Cup, and he was intentionally bumping into other people in his section.
00:52:53People drop hundreds, if not thousands of dollars to go to these games.
00:52:57And you got this dude who's just running a 5K on his seat, which essentially is just twirling around and
00:53:03bumping into everybody.
00:53:04We got to bring back punching in this country.
00:53:05Yeah, I'm out on fitness influencers, and he's filming himself the entire time.
00:53:08Where's Joey Swole at?
00:53:10You can extend this to...
00:53:12Turn my mic off.
00:53:12Is this not the purpose of Joey Swole?
00:53:15Yeah, this guy...
00:53:16Yeah, he fights against this kind of stuff, right?
00:53:17If Joey Swole is going to step up to anybody, it's this guy.
00:53:21Well, it's also...
00:53:22Nuisance streamers in general.
00:53:24This isn't any...
00:53:25This isn't fitness.
00:53:25We're in an algorithmic era where anyone, regardless of their platform, can do something
00:53:31crazy like this, garner millions of views, literal money in their pockets, so why wouldn't
00:53:36they?
00:53:37Yeah.
00:53:37I guess.
00:53:38It's a symptom of a larger societal issue.
00:53:44Yeah.
00:53:44Not the cause, but he is symptomatic.
00:53:47It's infuriating.
00:53:49All nuisance streamers.
00:53:51Yes.
00:53:51These guys that go around and just try to be jerks to people, like, be overtly racist,
00:53:57all...
00:53:57Like, get the hell out of here.
00:53:58Like, burn kick.com to the ground.
00:54:01I don't even know if this guy's on kick, but burn it to the ground.
00:54:03If I were wearing a belt, I was about to do a 5K in my seat, but I don't want
00:54:08to show
00:54:09what I would show.
00:54:10That's a good call, Brandon.
00:54:11Yeah.
00:54:13Let's talk about our next in real fast, instead of, yeah, seeing Brandon...
00:54:16Oh, so they should have kicked that guy out of the game.
00:54:18Sorry.
00:54:18Yes.
00:54:19Agreed.
00:54:19I'm shocked he didn't.
00:54:20But yeah, instead of seeing Brandon's butt crack, we'll talk about the scuba.
00:54:25The scuba is very much in...
00:54:27There was a video that came out yesterday.
00:54:29I thought that this celebration was out.
00:54:31I was like, ah, we're kind of done with it.
00:54:33And then Monet Davis...
00:54:35You guys remember Monet Davis, the Little League World Series legend?
00:54:37Little League World Series legend.
00:54:38Oh, Rico Bosco.
00:54:40Started hitting the scuba.
00:54:40Wow, is that your Betsy Ross?
00:54:42With Betsy Ross.
00:54:42That's your Betsy Ross.
00:54:43That is your Betsy Ross.
00:54:45Yes, I met her.
00:54:45She's got Betsy Ross.
00:54:46Yes, we flirted.
00:54:48It was in the Rediscovering America video with KB.
00:54:51She hated Kate.
00:54:52Did not like Kate at all.
00:54:53Spiced Kate.
00:54:54Why was she so mean to Ben Franklin Kate?
00:54:56Is it a Betsy Ross summer?
00:54:57This woman's everywhere.
00:54:58She is incredible, though.
00:54:59Yes.
00:55:00And she's hitting the scuba, and she's bringing the celebration back.
00:55:02How accurate looks-wise is she?
00:55:04The scuba is the...
00:55:05I hate it.
00:55:06You hate it?
00:55:07Yeah, but Betsy Ross didn't hit it.
00:55:10Violent in me.
00:55:12Violent in you.
00:55:13I don't know.
00:55:13I just saw this video, and I was like, wait, that's the same Betsy Ross.
00:55:16I did the Leonardo DiCaprio pointing at the TV.
00:55:18Scuba is Sports Conglomerate United Baseball Association.
00:55:22Okay.
00:55:23Yeah, is that right?
00:55:23Yeah.
00:55:24Good job, Ian.
00:55:24It's also home of the East Mississippi Community College Lions.
00:55:27Scuba.
00:55:28Love it.
00:55:28Hey, everybody, you know what else gets two thumbs up content-wise?
00:55:33Ken Burns' new American Revolution documentary.
00:55:35Yeah.
00:55:35Oh, does he have one?
00:55:37Episode one, I believe you can watch for free, and then, you know, you've got to pay PBS if
00:55:41you don't want to rest, but A+.
00:55:43You should definitely check it out.
00:55:45You can even wear your 250th anniversary all-star jacket while you're watching to really double
00:55:51down on the patriotism, if you have one.
00:55:53If you have one.
00:55:53All right, let's go, Connor.
00:55:55We need to get through this a second.
00:55:55Okay.
00:55:57Well, sticking with the 250th birthday, the all-star game, everything like that, we are
00:56:01obviously just focused on Philly right there.
00:56:03Out on sugarcoating.
00:56:05Out on sugarcoating in sports anymore.
00:56:07Let's look at this clip.
00:56:09We don't have the audio, but it's a home run derby.
00:56:12There's this fan, or not fan, I shouldn't say.
00:56:14It was one of the people shagging fly balls.
00:56:16A child is what you mean to say a child.
00:56:18Who misplayed the ball, gets booed by the Philadelphia crowd, and I think that this is justified.
00:56:23So you're in on Philadelphia fans' ability to boo children.
00:56:26I'm out on sugarcoating things and, you know, participation trophies and saying, oh, you
00:56:31tried your best.
00:56:31Listen, it was a bad play on the ball, and you've got to be honest about it.
00:56:35How did it affect any of the fans sitting there?
00:56:38Why did it make them want to boo?
00:56:39And I think that guy, the kid in the outfield, is going to look back at the tape, and he's
00:56:44going to really evaluate and say, yeah, I could have played that a little bit better,
00:56:47and it won't happen again.
00:56:47Or it's going to need therapy the rest of his life.
00:56:49Yeah, it's going to traumatize him because he made a minor mistake, and it's going to...
00:56:52Got booed by 70,000 people.
00:56:54Yeah.
00:56:54For the rest of his life until the day he died.
00:56:5640,000 people.
00:56:5740,000 people.
00:56:58All that kid will think about for the rest of his life.
00:57:0046,000 people.
00:57:01I think the booing...
00:57:03Anything to make Philly fans feel better about how terrible they are to their fellow human
00:57:06beings.
00:57:07The booing, I thought, was the best part of the home run derby.
00:57:10I was going to say...
00:57:11I never seen that before in a home run derby, but it was awesome.
00:57:13This is a tough time to attack the Philly fans because that was the backdrop that was the
00:57:19secret sauce in the other night.
00:57:21Was them doing everything they could to try to break Jordan Walker.
00:57:24Also, they backed into the booing being a fun part of the night.
00:57:28They got lucky.
00:57:29They got lucky, but it still worked out.
00:57:31And then Jordan Walker shoved it in their face.
00:57:34I mean, he silenced that.
00:57:35He stared down 50K and silenced him.
00:57:38Got to give him credit.
00:57:39Shout out Jordan Walker's dad.
00:57:40That should have been an end.
00:57:42Family.
00:57:42Because they were there.
00:57:44Yes.
00:57:45So you get a family.
00:57:46And the Philly fans embraced him.
00:57:47Make sure you check out Elmo's Sports with Walker coming up at 10 a.m.
00:57:50Right now, Football and Football coming up next.
00:57:57Welcome back.
00:57:58This is Wake Up Barstool here on FS1.
00:58:01And then there were three.
00:58:03Yep.
00:58:05You want to send me?
00:58:05Yeah.
00:58:06Okay.
00:58:07Four people out here, but three on the panel.
00:58:10Colin wasn't happy with Brandon.
00:58:13Yeah.
00:58:13Uncle Colin called down.
00:58:15And, you know, Connor and I, we are two of the biggest Colin guys, maybe, at this company.
00:58:20We've been watching Colin since we were 12, 11 years old.
00:58:23I mean that legitimately.
00:58:24And what Uncle Colin says goes.
00:58:26So, Brandon, out.
00:58:28Ah!
00:58:29This is the herd.
00:58:31We love you, Uncle Colin.
00:58:32I say that to myself at least five times a day.
00:58:35So, shout out to Brandon.
00:58:36Thoughts and prayers.
00:58:37Also, everybody should go check out the new Unnecessary Roughness episode.
00:58:39Yes.
00:58:39That just dropped.
00:58:40Because if you are a fan of Brandon Walker, the Brandon Walker College Football Show is back.
00:58:46That's right.
00:58:47Brandon getting back to his roots.
00:58:49Talking CFB solo.
00:58:51So, go ahead and be on the lookout for that.
00:58:52It's going to be fantastic.
00:58:53Hell of a run for roughness as well.
00:58:56All right.
00:58:56Let's talk some football.
00:58:58And then we'll get into some football.
00:59:00Because today, you have one of the more odd and yet storyline-filled rivalries, probably in like all of sports,
00:59:10when you're talking about England and Argentina.
00:59:12They've had a ton of historically great games that have stood the test of time and have like their own
00:59:17names.
00:59:18They've had major geopolitical issues, like the invasion of Argentina during the Napoleonic Wars.
00:59:25You had the Falkland Wars in the early 80s.
00:59:28And yet, here again, these two are going to meet on the biggest stage with a chance to advance to
00:59:34the final.
00:59:36There's got to be a ton of pressure on England in this one, right?
00:59:39Or am I?
00:59:40No, always.
00:59:42I was going to say.
00:59:42In major tournaments, always.
00:59:43They never, especially this most recent generation, has gotten so close to winning a Euro, winning a World Cup, and
00:59:51they have always fallen just short.
00:59:53Is there any like, I don't know, like England underdog feel for any fans?
00:59:59Like if England wins, finally gets over the hump and wins a World Cup, are people going to feel good
01:00:04for them?
01:00:04Or is it people hate England so much around the world that they won't care?
01:00:09It does seem to be like probably England, there's not a lot of sympathy for them.
01:00:15This is, of course, the hand of God goal, where Maradona jumps up and straight up punches the ball into
01:00:23the net.
01:00:23The referee doesn't see it.
01:00:25This is before the tyranny of VAR.
01:00:28Maradona's goal stands.
01:00:29Now, what people don't always think about as much with this game is, so he scores this one,
01:00:35but then he comes back and he has a run that they call the goal of the century,
01:00:40where he touches it 11 times in 11 seconds.
01:00:44He beats like five defenders, including the goalie, and they end up winning 2-1.
01:00:49So, look, you got the hand of God game.
01:00:51You got the theft of the century in 66.
01:00:53That's the only time that England won the World Cup.
01:00:56So, you know, nearly 60 years ago at this point.
01:01:01Beckham got a red card.
01:01:02Argentina wins in PKs in 98.
01:01:042008, 2002, you had Beckham's PK goal for England to win, and here we sit in 2026.
01:01:10Again, a trip to the championship on the line.
01:01:14Another question I have here.
01:01:16Now that Mbappe is out of the field, does Leo Messi just try and maybe say go for 10 goals
01:01:23in these next two games in the tournament to try and further the distance between him
01:01:27and Mbappe in the World Cup goal?
01:01:29Yeah, no, that's a good point.
01:01:31It's a good point, Connor.
01:01:31I feel like he probably wasn't very motivated before Kylian Mbappe went out.
01:01:37Now that Mbappe's out, I think, oh, I'm going to score 10.
01:01:39And now it's not about winning the World Cup anymore.
01:01:42It's about let me get some more separation in these rankings.
01:01:46To your point, growing up and living in a country whose entire identity is defined by the sport
01:01:51that has defined you and everything.
01:01:53Yeah, now that, yes, yes.
01:01:55Now he's going to be ready to go.
01:01:57Argentina does, even though they are the defending champs, correct?
01:02:01Yeah.
01:02:01Feel like a fun underdog story whenever they're going through these tournaments,
01:02:05going up against, like, the European powers, and their superstar is just like this 5'6", 130-pound...
01:02:12The little magician.
01:02:13Yeah, little man who defies everything and is the greatest player maybe to ever touch a soccer ball.
01:02:20He's quirky.
01:02:20He walks stooped.
01:02:22He just sits there and he's like the Borg.
01:02:24He just kind of analyzes everything, takes everything in, and then he's just always in the perfect position to make
01:02:30the play.
01:02:30Also, Argentina, through this tournament, has been just surviving.
01:02:36I mean, getting into absolute dogfight battles but continuing to find ways to win.
01:02:42England's had those moments as well.
01:02:44I mean, going to Azteca and emerging 3-2 winners in a just brutal game with Mexico.
01:02:50Jude Bellingham saving the day that England come back 2-1 earlier in the tournament with the two Harry Kangals.
01:02:57Yeah, this is another just spectacular heavyweight matchup and one that should, for I think the casual viewer,
01:03:03hold more excitement than yesterday's 2-0 shutout did.
01:03:06Yeah, I would agree.
01:03:07Also, on the line here, wasn't the picture of Leo Messi and was it Laminia Mall in the bathtub?
01:03:13Yeah.
01:03:13Where Leo Messi bayed Laminia Mall?
01:03:14Yeah, he bayed Laminia Mall when he was a little baby.
01:03:17And now, if Argentina wins this one, we could get a final with those two meeting up together?
01:03:22The Bath Boys.
01:03:23The Bath Boys.
01:03:23It's a great photo.
01:03:25It's true.
01:03:25That would be cool.
01:03:27Yeah, no, it's a big-time stage where you have England who, as Ibo said, is this kind of an
01:03:34underdog.
01:03:34It's like the Knicks in a way where, I guess that would be probably their best.
01:03:37Yeah, that's not a bad analogy.
01:03:39The New York Knicks, a big-time brand who people hate, but they also haven't won in a whole lot.
01:03:44So, you know, they're kind of an underdog going up against the defending champs and Leo Messi and everything.
01:03:48And there are a bunch of storylines here to really seek your teeth into.
01:03:52That said, I am firmly anybody but England.
01:03:55My old man pointed this out to me, and he's absolutely right.
01:03:58It's the 250th birthday of America.
01:04:01Yeah.
01:04:01Celebrating independence from England.
01:04:04Yeah.
01:04:04The American Revolution.
01:04:06We cannot have them win on American soil and have it come home at this time.
01:04:13Just cannot happen.
01:04:14Absolutely cannot happen.
01:04:15I think a French-England final would have been a disaster, right?
01:04:18We couldn't have had it.
01:04:19Well, no, but see, I would disagree because the French, they were our allies in the American Revolution.
01:04:25They gave us money to the tune of, like, over a modern billion dollars in age, or in aid, excuse
01:04:30me.
01:04:31They gave us guns, troops, took advantage of their naval forces.
01:04:35This is all in the Ken Burns, doc?
01:04:37I haven't gotten there yet.
01:04:38I've only seen episode one.
01:04:39Okay.
01:04:39I've only seen episode one.
01:04:40By the way, sorry, I don't mean to step all over you.
01:04:42Brandon had, I know he's gone.
01:04:44He had, he filled out a bracket last week, right, where he said he knew everything that was going to
01:04:48happen.
01:04:48Yeah.
01:04:49I don't know if he got that right.
01:04:50I don't know if we have that.
01:04:51Yeah.
01:04:52Have his bracket.
01:04:53He may not be bad because I think he just chose the favorites, but I'm pretty sure he would have
01:04:57fans going through all the way.
01:04:58Pretty sure he would have fans going through.
01:05:00Yeah, he had France-Argentina final.
01:05:01Yeah.
01:05:02Already wrong.
01:05:02They seemed like the bad boys.
01:05:04I thought that they were going to easily win the whole thing, but.
01:05:06But, again, there is a geopolitical bent to this as well.
01:05:10England invading during the Napoleonic Wars, the Falkland Wars of the early 80s, in which Messi, like, excuse me, Maradona
01:05:18back, they specifically referenced in 86.
01:05:22KB, do you have anything on the Falklands that could add a little spice to today's game?
01:05:26Well, it's the longest running territorial dispute in the world, Argentina and the UK fighting to claim the Falkland Islands,
01:05:34and I'm not really seeing why.
01:05:37It seems like a miserable place.
01:05:40I believe there's a string of islands that are named the South Sandwich Islands, which I think, I mean, I
01:05:47have no follow-up.
01:05:48I have no funny wordplay.
01:05:50I just think that's funny.
01:05:51It's funny, yeah.
01:05:52A rich history with Ernest Shackleton, if you want to read that.
01:05:55But, yeah, if you like the Internet or physical comfort, it's not for you.
01:06:04It's for lovers of blubber and squid.
01:06:08It is cold year-round.
01:06:10It rains 250 days a year.
01:06:13This is not the place to be, but it has penguins.
01:06:17Okay.
01:06:17Oh, wow.
01:06:18So, it's, like you said, it's still ongoing to the point where they actually do not allow English referees to
01:06:27call Argentina games and vice versa.
01:06:30So, look, there's some real spice in this mix today.
01:06:34And, again, anybody but England here on the 250th birthday of America, right, because we're celebrating America.
01:06:40Also, Messi, he's American.
01:06:44Yeah.
01:06:44Yeah, he lives in Miami.
01:06:45Yeah.
01:06:46And before Ivo stepped all over my segue again, I was going to say, and what's more American than NFL
01:06:52football?
01:06:53Let's spin the NFL wheel, guys.
01:06:58The segues.
01:06:58He's going to rip the jacket off his body.
01:07:00It's even rough.
01:07:04Oh, yeah.
01:07:05Oh, yeah.
01:07:05Oh, no.
01:07:07Oh, dude.
01:07:07Okay.
01:07:08Expectations.
01:07:10I was going to say that color's got to be commanders.
01:07:12Expectations for Jaden Daniels in 2026.
01:07:16Hopefully stay healthy.
01:07:19Yeah, and compete for an NFC East title, I think.
01:07:22Every team in the NFC East feels like they have a shot.
01:07:25I think every team, except the Giants, probably have a shot.
01:07:29Yeah, I think winning an NFC East title is the goal, be in contention.
01:07:33So are you saying those are like in a perfect season, that's what you would see?
01:07:37Or is that what you expect Jaden Daniels to do?
01:07:39My expectations for Jaden Daniels is compete for an NFC title, stay healthy.
01:07:44NFC East title, sorry, stay healthy.
01:07:46Connor, rank the NFC East quarterbacks.
01:07:51Now this is tough.
01:07:52Okay, we went through the list yesterday, so you saw the ESPN article.
01:07:56Yeah, Jalen Hurts at 17.
01:07:57Jalen Hurts not in the top 10.
01:07:59Okay.
01:08:00We're in NFL coaches, executive scouts.
01:08:02There's two Jalen Hurts.
01:08:04Number one, Jalen Hurts.
01:08:08Number two, I'd probably go to Dak Prescott.
01:08:13Yeah, why are you acting like that?
01:08:15Number three.
01:08:16Why would Dak Prescott not be number one?
01:08:17I think most people would say number one.
01:08:18Yeah.
01:08:20Number three, Jaden McDaniels.
01:08:22Number four, Jackson Dart.
01:08:25Jaden McDaniels.
01:08:25Jaden Daniels?
01:08:26Sorry, Jaden Daniels.
01:08:28Sorry.
01:08:28I'm still in basketball mode a little.
01:08:31Yeah, I mean, I think I agree with you.
01:08:33Just, it's, except for I don't think, and you know me.
01:08:38I've been a huge Jalen Hurts defender because the intangibles and because all he does is win.
01:08:44Yes.
01:08:44And so I'm pointing to that, you know, you can, stats don't matter when you get it done like he
01:08:49does.
01:08:49And then he shows up in both Super Bowls.
01:08:50But last year, last year, not even I could defend what we were seeing by the end.
01:08:57He didn't want to attack the middle of the field.
01:08:59He just, like, I'll still put him number two in that division, but Dak Prescott's number two.
01:09:05Don't do it.
01:09:06Don't do it.
01:09:06You don't want me, you don't want me to go the Petulo route?
01:09:08Don't, don't, don't.
01:09:08I'm going to say Petulo.
01:09:09I knew he was going to say Petulo.
01:09:10You don't want me to go the Petulo route?
01:09:11All right, here's what, here's, how long, okay, how many games do we have to give Jalen Hurts this year
01:09:16with a new offensive coordinator before we make a decision whether we blame it on Kevin Petulo?
01:09:22You think you're already ready to blame it on Kevin Petulo?
01:09:24Half the, you got to give him half the season.
01:09:26Oh my God, crazy long leash.
01:09:28Crazy.
01:09:28How is that a crazy long leash?
01:09:30It's too long.
01:09:31People say that Philadelphia fans are irrational and we rush to judgment so quickly.
01:09:34Like, I'll give him half a season.
01:09:37I'll give him eight games.
01:09:38Quarter of a season.
01:09:38All right, we'll check in.
01:09:39I'll give him eight games.
01:09:40We'll check in week nine and we'll, and I need you week nine on this show to definitively say if
01:09:47it was Kevin Petulo's fault or not.
01:09:48Jalen Hurts has arguably been the best player on the field in two Super Bowls.
01:09:54Yeah.
01:09:54Has out-doiled Patrick Mahomes in two Super Bowls.
01:09:57Has won a Super Bowl.
01:09:58Has been a Super Bowl MVP.
01:10:00Has an insane win-loss record just as a starter in this league for 560 or whatever, five years.
01:10:06I don't know how you can look at the resume and say, but yeah, he's not even the best quarterback
01:10:13in the division.
01:10:13I just, I don't, I don't grasp that at all.
01:10:16Because he's also been in, I mean, if you put Dak on the Eagles, I think he has a lot
01:10:20of success as well.
01:10:21He's been, Howard Roseman's done a hell of a job of crafting that team.
01:10:24Now, this was a Jaden Daniels segment though, so I don't want to get too lost on Jalen Hurtsweet.
01:10:29In terms of what I expect out of him, I guess the honest truth is it's kind of impossible to
01:10:35know what to expect.
01:10:36Because he was such a revelation in that year, number one, and obviously I'm a bit biased, LSU guy, won
01:10:42the Heisman.
01:10:42I would love to see him return to that form, but he's a little slight, right?
01:10:48You got Jack Prescott over there and he likes to run.
01:10:51And to be completely honest, I don't know what to make of their new OC situation.
01:10:55Well.
01:10:56Where, I mean, what, they're telling me it's going to get better when they're going to put him under center?
01:10:59Like, okay, I mean, I understand you want to take pressure off of him, but yeah, I don't have expectations
01:11:06for Jaden Daniels.
01:11:07I don't know that I think he's going to be super relevant to, like, top 10 quarterback or in the
01:11:15NFC East.
01:11:15All the turmoil that they have in their receiver room too.
01:11:18If we're going to focus on Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, talk about the whole Jaden Daniels and Brandon Ayuk.
01:11:23You don't know.
01:11:23Just teasing me with Tyler Shuck.
01:11:27Biggest threats of the Seahawks and Rams in the NFC?
01:11:30No one.
01:11:32Next question.
01:11:33You guys are putting me in these spots where, like.
01:11:37Let me guess.
01:11:39You got to say.
01:11:40Who are you going to answer?
01:11:41The team that we're not even sure is going to win the NFC East is going to challenge the Rams
01:11:45and the Seahawks.
01:11:46We don't even need to leave the division.
01:11:48I mean, the 49ers are.
01:11:50We own the Rams.
01:11:51Yeah, Niners.
01:11:52We beat the Rams all the time.
01:11:55Is there anybody.
01:11:55Even last year with all the turmoil, we came back to beat the Rams.
01:11:59I think.
01:12:00Can I say something crazy?
01:12:01I know.
01:12:02They've been teasing you with the Tyler Shuck stuff.
01:12:03We don't have to do the Philly East Coast sports thing anymore.
01:12:05Yeah.
01:12:05We don't have to do the NFC South guys.
01:12:07We're talking right now.
01:12:07Yeah, NFC South guys.
01:12:09I'm terrified of the Saints.
01:12:11I think Tyler Shuck is so good at football.
01:12:13I know they don't have, like, maybe a legitimate shot to win the Super Bowl, but I think they could
01:12:18be very, very good.
01:12:19I mean, I've also kind of given myself over to ridiculous optimism when it comes to my expectation for them.
01:12:30But, yeah, we're like, I don't know.
01:12:32Maybe Shuck turns back into a pumpkin.
01:12:34I don't think so.
01:12:36Because the quality of throws he was making last year.
01:12:38But, okay.
01:12:40I just don't know.
01:12:41I'm with Evo.
01:12:42Is it just the Niners?
01:12:43Do we just stick in the NFC West, though, to answer this question?
01:12:46I mean, because McDonald and the Seahawks defense, they're going to be incredible.
01:12:49But, again, Tim Darnold's back.
01:12:51The Rams look like a Dodgers level of favorite right now.
01:12:55And I'm still of the opinion that maybe Aaron Donald ends up throwing his lot in right before the season
01:13:01starts here.
01:13:02So, I mean, he was working out at the facility, what, a week ago?
01:13:06Yeah.
01:13:07Wait, was he in the facility?
01:13:08I saw, maybe it was like TMZ reported that.
01:13:12I might have been bamboozled, but I did see something along those lines as well.
01:13:15I could have been got.
01:13:17I mean, if you wanted to go outside of the West, would it be somebody in the North, the Packers?
01:13:22Would it be the Lions?
01:13:23No, I mean, I guess the thought exercise here is that there, like, doesn't seem to be a very obvious
01:13:28threat to them.
01:13:29Because I'm with you.
01:13:30Because, like, it would be the Eagles, Connor, but there's a lot of holes you can poke.
01:13:33I don't think I'm crazy or biased for saying that the Philadelphia Eagles would be in the mix in the
01:13:38NFC.
01:13:38Yeah, no, no, no.
01:13:39You're not.
01:13:39You're not.
01:13:39Okay, I'd say.
01:13:41And in terms of the North, like, who knows what to make of that division.
01:13:44But you could see a Packers.
01:13:46You could see a Bears.
01:13:48Like, I could understand how they could get there potentially.
01:13:50Yeah, whoever comes out of the NFC North will be a worthy champion of that division.
01:13:56Minnesota Vikings.
01:13:58Look at Saints, Panthers, and Falcons.
01:14:03NFC winner odds.
01:14:05That's tough.
01:14:05Hell yeah, dude.
01:14:06That's so bad.
01:14:07No way.
01:14:08That's so bad.
01:14:09We have them right where they want.
01:14:10Right where we run them.
01:14:12Right where we want them, even though.
01:14:13Everybody should check out the subreddit.
01:14:15I can't believe Bryce.
01:14:16Listen, I love Bryce Young.
01:14:17Great guy.
01:14:18Seems like a wonderful dude.
01:14:20Puts up for the short guys.
01:14:22Spin it.
01:14:23Can't believe he was a top runner player in the NFL.
01:14:25Why?
01:14:26He was good.
01:14:27I don't know.
01:14:28That was something.
01:14:29I love him to death, though.
01:14:32Speaking of San Francisco, is the 49ers' windows closed?
01:14:38I think as long as you have Kyle Shanahan, you're very much a contender.
01:14:43Yeah, I was going to say, it feels like if the 49ers could survive the injuries they did last year,
01:14:48still be as good as they were, I can't count them out ever.
01:14:54Well, also, what players are we using to define the window?
01:14:58Hold on.
01:14:58Hold on.
01:14:59Hold on.
01:14:59Now, Productions and Mayor's Santa just said they're not a contender to teams of the division.
01:15:03No, we literally said they were maybe the biggest threat to the two teams in their division.
01:15:10So, like, no, Ibo's right.
01:15:12It's going to Shanahan's there.
01:15:13Their window's open.
01:15:13Sorry, Kyle.
01:15:14Yeah, the window, usually, I look at as, okay, let's look at the core here and let's look at the
01:15:20players that we have.
01:15:21Are they getting too old?
01:15:23Are they getting whatever?
01:15:23Like, obviously, Kittle, I would imagine, yeah, maybe he's entering towards that back part.
01:15:29Would you put Christian McCaffrey in there as well as somebody who might be fading out?
01:15:34Well, I don't know, though.
01:15:35I mean, he bounced back.
01:15:37Yeah, exactly.
01:15:37Their entire receiving core of this window is gone, essentially, with Ayuk walking out the door.
01:15:44But who props open the window?
01:15:46And to your point, Shanahan, you got Purdy.
01:15:49Yeah.
01:15:49Purdy's still super young.
01:15:50They just paid him and everything.
01:15:53Yeah, I don't think that the window is close at all.
01:15:56Now, but they may have a little bit of Federer, Jokovic, Nadal in him, right, where, like, they would be
01:16:06great.
01:16:06And on any given year, this team would be good enough to win the NFC West and maybe be a
01:16:10Super Bowl threat.
01:16:11But they just exist at a time where they have two other monsters in their division.
01:16:16Yes.
01:16:17Hey, do they have a good quarterback?
01:16:19Yes.
01:16:20Do they have a good coach?
01:16:21Yeah.
01:16:21Then they're a contender, in my opinion.
01:16:23Actually, yeah, KB's right.
01:16:24Like, that is as simple as it gets in the NFL a lot of times.
01:16:28Yeah.
01:16:29All right, guys, coming up next, let's go ahead and close out today's show.
01:16:32Thank you to everybody for hanging out with us.
01:16:33We've got one more segment here on Wake Up Barstool.
01:16:35If you want to get your questions in, hashtag AskWub.
01:16:38Coming up next.
01:16:45All right, welcome back to Wake Up Barstool.
01:16:47Closing out this Wednesday's show, let's talk a little Congress, speaking of America, because the House just passed legislation to
01:16:57make daylight saving time permanent nationwide.
01:17:01The bill will now head to the Senate, and I just got to be honest here, hand up, I don't
01:17:09fully understand any of this.
01:17:11No.
01:17:11I don't know, like, if we're going to stick without changing our clocks, do we change it one more time
01:17:20and then stick there?
01:17:21Do we just exist in the time that we are at, like, right now?
01:17:25Is there advantage to one or the other?
01:17:28I don't really understand how springing forward or falling back affects the sun either.
01:17:33I know that people are real angry, like, about daylight saving time every time it happens, but I just, it
01:17:39all confuses me.
01:17:41I get kerfuffled and bamboozled in my head.
01:17:44Can anybody help me out here?
01:17:46My understanding is that the closer you are to the equator, the less it, like, the moving the clock affects
01:17:52you.
01:17:52Like, a lot of, like, we were in St. Martin over break, they don't do daylight savings time.
01:17:56They don't flip the clocks.
01:17:57Good flex by you, Bo, right there.
01:17:58I don't think Arizona does daylight savings time.
01:18:01How close are they to the equator?
01:18:02It's a great question.
01:18:04Pretty far.
01:18:07Yeah, pretty dang far.
01:18:08But Hawaii's pretty close.
01:18:09But winter and summer don't fluctuate a lot.
01:18:11They don't do it.
01:18:12They, like, it doesn't fluctuate, like, the length of the day doesn't fluctuate a lot near the equator.
01:18:17So, what, hmm, how do I, hmm.
01:18:21Why did we originally start changing the clocks, KB?
01:18:24Do you know?
01:18:25No idea.
01:18:26Okay.
01:18:27No idea.
01:18:27And I kind of like it.
01:18:28Life is so monotonous and banal.
01:18:31Yeah.
01:18:31Let's tinker with the clocks and change time.
01:18:35Just twice a year.
01:18:37KB, I've had this idea for a while.
01:18:39And if this passes, I'll never get a chance to do it.
01:18:43I've always thought it would be really cool to have a daylight savings party.
01:18:47Now, it would require you keep a party.
01:18:49Like New Year's?
01:18:49No, yeah, it would require you to keep the party going until 2 o'clock in the morning.
01:18:53But when 2 o'clock hits, and they have to, it would be when they set the time back an
01:18:58hour.
01:18:59You never had that, so in.
01:19:00Never did that in college.
01:19:02I was going to say, in college, the bars in Baton Rouge would close at 2 a.m.
01:19:06And so that was always a special night where you would get the extra hour before they turn the lights
01:19:12on.
01:19:13We had COVID when I was in the bar scene in college.
01:19:16Oh, that's so crazy.
01:19:16So we didn't do that.
01:19:17But I want to host a party where, yeah, it's like once, okay, 2 a.m., 2 a.m.
01:19:22Oh, wait, just kidding.
01:19:24We're going back to 1 a.m.
01:19:25And now we have a whole other hour of partying.
01:19:26Like, that would be fun.
01:19:27That'd be electric.
01:19:28It's also funny because you're saying that you're going to establish a closing time of your party.
01:19:32Yes.
01:19:33Like, at 2 a.m., like, sorry, guys.
01:19:34No, no, no.
01:19:35Like, you're going to pull the classic turn-on supersonic or whatever, you know.
01:19:39Sorry, guys.
01:19:40Got to pack up.
01:19:41Yeah.
01:19:41You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here.
01:19:43Yeah.
01:19:44Just kidding.
01:19:45Get out of the house, guys.
01:19:45Oh!
01:19:46I just want to do that.
01:19:47Do the Europeans do this?
01:19:49Are the Europeans on daylight savings times with us?
01:19:51This is...
01:19:51My instinct says no.
01:19:52My American ignorance is bleeding out of me right now.
01:19:55I don't quite know.
01:19:56I'm thinking that this has something to do with agriculture and farming.
01:20:02Maybe back in the day.
01:20:03And I have no idea if that's true or not.
01:20:04I was under the impression it was, like, a wartime thing.
01:20:06The Europeans do do it.
01:20:08Okay.
01:20:08It was, like, a wartime thing so the day was longer so you could manufacture more weapons.
01:20:12Sure.
01:20:13I mean, I don't know.
01:20:14Maybe.
01:20:15That could make sense.
01:20:16The biggest and maybe oddest victims of daylight savings are the people who live in, like,
01:20:22northern Indiana.
01:20:23And if you commute to northwest Indiana...
01:20:26Mm-hmm.
01:20:27...you're on a time zone boundary.
01:20:30Oh, yeah.
01:20:31What do you mean?
01:20:31You're jumping from, like...
01:20:33There's a pocket of northwest Indiana that is in the central time zone.
01:20:39Oh, weird.
01:20:39Despite the majority of the rest of the state being in the eastern time zone.
01:20:44So they have to have, like, two different clocks.
01:20:47Like, every time they schedule something, it's like an escape room.
01:20:50It's...
01:20:50That sounds miserable.
01:20:51It sounds hellish.
01:20:52It sounds like that would take years off of your life with trying to compute it all
01:20:55and figure it out every day.
01:20:56Right.
01:20:56Yeah.
01:20:57Look, I would say this.
01:20:58I don't know...
01:20:59Again, I don't understand how all of it works, but I think the majority of people want the
01:21:07sun to go down a little bit later.
01:21:10Is that fair?
01:21:11Yes.
01:21:11I feel like people...
01:21:12I always hear people complaining, like you were talking about, Ivo, when you're driving
01:21:16home at 5 p.m. and it's already dark outside.
01:21:19Yeah.
01:21:20If you work like...
01:21:20Yeah, after you work inside all day long, it's probably tough.
01:21:23Yeah.
01:21:24So...
01:21:25We shall see.
01:21:26Yeah.
01:21:27It's a classic we shall see situation.
01:21:29We do know, though, it's going to be light outside this afternoon for England-Argentina.
01:21:34So make sure you watch that right here on Fox.
01:21:36Coming up next, it's First Things First.
01:21:38Huge thank you to everybody on the show today.
01:21:40Thank you to Brandon for playing Hurt.
01:21:42Go check out Mostly Sports.
01:21:43We've got a Wake Up Barstool post-show show beginning in about 15 minutes.
01:21:48So come hang out on YouTube for that.
01:21:51See you tomorrow.
01:21:51We'll see you tomorrow.
