00:33Venezuela commemorates the 205th anniversary of the Carabobo Battle.
00:45Hello, welcome to From the South, I'm Lorena Fon from the Telesur Studios in Caracas, Venezuela.
00:50We begin with a new, so stay with us.
01:11The International Maritime Organization, a United Nations agency, started the evacuation of more than 11,000 sailors stranded in the
01:20Strait of Hormuz, following the memorandum of understanding signed between the United States and Iran to end the Middle East
01:27conflict.
01:27On Tuesday, I'm Secretary General Arsenio Dominguez said in a statement that the operation would be carried out in close
01:34cooperation with Iran, Oman and all other coastal states in the region, the United States and the maritime industry.
01:42This comes after the closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran in retaliation over the United States and Israeli
01:48attacks, leaving hundreds of ships stranded.
01:52Even though the recent peace agreement allows for maritime traffic once again, Iran stated that the Strait of Hormuz would
01:58never return to the pre-war status quo.
02:18In this context, the spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary General, Estefan Dujarric, described the evacuations as a significant step
02:26toward alleviating the humanitarian impact of the crisis.
02:34An initiative on the Strait of Hormuz from our colleagues at the International Maritime Organization, who tell us they will
02:40be beginning implementing an evacuation plan for more than 11,000 seafarers who remain stranded in the region.
02:47The large-scale operation will be carried out in close cooperation with Iran, Oman and all other coastal states in
02:53the region, all as well as the United States and the maritime industry.
02:58The IMO Secretary General, our senior Dominguez, said IMO secured the necessary safety guarantees and thoroughly verified the conditions for
03:07safe navigation to support these operations.
03:09The operation marks a significant step towards alleviating the humanitarian impact of the crisis on thousands of seafarers who've endured
03:17months of uncertainty, months of unrestricted movements and mounting welfare concerns.
03:28Israel and Lebanon initiated a new round of negotiations in Washington, D.C. aimed at establishing a permanent ceasefire.
03:35This meeting follows the memorandum of understanding that the United States and Iran reached, which includes an end to hostilities
03:41in Lebanese territory.
03:43The fifth round of negotiations between Beirut and Tel Aviv began on Tuesday, following mediation efforts aimed at achieving peace
03:50in the Middle East.
03:52The three-day negotiations will address security and political issues, including the transfer of responsibilities from the Zionist army to
04:01the Lebanese army.
04:02The negotiations come in the context of recent Israeli attacks against civilians in Lebanon.
04:07Let's recall that since March 2026, Israel has killed more than 4,000 Lebanese people and more than one million
04:14have been displaced from their homes as Zionist forces advance northward.
04:28Israel stated that it will not comply with the demands of its main ally, the United States, regarding a ceasefire
04:35in southern Lebanon.
04:37Israel's minister of national security, Itamar Ben-Givir, recently stated that the decisions regarding the situation in Lebanon rest with
04:45Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and not with President Donald Trump.
04:49He emphasized that Israel is not just another satellite of the United States and that, although they are good partners,
04:55there is no reason to act under its directives.
04:58The Zionist government confirmed that Israel will continue to operate without restrictions in southern Lebanon amid negotiations between Washington and
05:07Iran.
05:23In Lebanon, Hezbollah Secretary General Sheikh Naim Hassem confirmed that resistance is Lebanon's sole guarantee against the Israeli occupation.
05:32According to Sheikh Qasem, resistance remains the only credible guarantee for liberating occupied land, insisting that Israel has failed to
05:41achieve its objectives on the battlefield and will remain incapable of doing so, regardless of the passage of time.
05:49The leader further stated that developments on the battlefield were the decisive factor in shaping the current reality.
05:55Moreover, Qasem demanded a complete timed Israeli withdrawal from all Lebanese territory.
06:01He also urged Lebanese authorities to leverage Hezbollah's strength, pledging full cooperation with the national army while rejecting an Israeli
06:09interference in domestic affairs.
06:17We now have a ceasefire.
06:19We now have a ceasefire.
06:21The withdrawal must take place according to a timetable.
06:26Israel has no choice but to fully withdraw from all Lebanese territory without retaining an inch.
06:34The resolution is not ready for a ceasefire.
06:36We now have a ceasefire.
06:37In the meantime, the United States Senate approved a war-powered resolution preventing President Donald Trump from continuing hostilities against
06:45Iran.
06:46The resolution passed by a 50 to 48-8 vote with four Republicans joining Democrats to back a measure seeking
06:52to limit the United States' President's military authority.
06:55The vote marked that the first time a World Powers resolution had successfully passed the
07:00vote chambers of Congress.
07:02It would require the President to seek Congress' authorization to use military force against
07:06Iran.
07:07In addition, the vote reflects the growing discontent in Congress over the nearly four-month-long
07:13conflict and underscores the White House's growing isolation in its actions against the
07:18Middle East.
07:28The Democratic Republic of Congo has confirmed 1,048 cases of Ebola and 267 deaths, bringing
07:35the fatality rate to 25.3%.
07:38The new cases and deaths reported in the last hour highlighted the virus' rapid spread.
07:43Health authorities noted that this variant is mainly concentrated in Etude province, exposing
07:48a large portion of the civilian population to infection.
07:51They also reported that difficulties in accessing certain regions are complicating outbreak control,
07:58meaning the actual number of infected people could be significantly higher than officially
08:03reported.

08:41Welcome back to From the South.
08:43We continue now with the information.
08:45A computer glitch completely paralyzed a red network in Germany.
08:48Service remained completely suspended for an hour and a half before technical teams were
08:53able to identify the source of the problem.
08:56The operator, Dutch Van, reported that trains remained stationed at the stations due to failure
09:02in the communication systems.
09:04While technicians worked to restore service, the company began issuing taxi and hotels vouchers
09:10to affected passengers.
09:11Although service partially returned to normal after two hours, delays and cancellations continue
09:20throughout the night.
09:28The Flamenco protest continued for a 24th day in Albania's capital, Tirana, against a planned
09:35tourism project in the Svernek area of the coastal city of Blora.
09:40On Tuesday, a large number of people gathered at Skanderbeg Square in Tirana for demonstrations
09:45held under the theme Albania is not for sale.
09:48They protested against the planned sale at Svernek Beach as part of a tourism project linked to
09:54Ivanka Trump, daughter of United States President Donald Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner.
09:59Carrying banners and play cards, the protesters marched towards the Prime Minister's office on
10:04the matters of the Nation Boulevard, waving Albanian flags.
10:08Protests against the Albanian government have now been ongoing for three weeks in Flamingo
10:13resolution that began over a multi-million dollar investment to wield a tourist resort in a
10:18natural area at risk.
10:38The United Nations Security Council on Tuesday unanimously adopted a resolution on accountability
10:44for crimes committed against the United Nations peacekeeper.
10:48Resolution 2823 stresses that accountability for attacks against United Nations peacekeepers
10:53is essential to deter future attacks and safeguard the effectiveness of United Nations peacekeeping
10:58operations.
10:59It aims to push the Security Council to establish a more institutionalized follow-up mechanism
11:04to continuously monitor relevant developments and ensure the safety and security of peacekeepers.
11:10The resolution condemns all attacks against United Nations peacekeepers and emphasizes that
11:14such attacks may constitute war crimes in the sense China's deputy permanent representative
11:20to the United Nations, Sun Li stated that China is highly concerned about the safety
11:25of peacekeeping personnel and welcomes the unanimous adoption of the resolution.
11:38The current international security environment is complex and volatile, and peacekeeping personnel
11:44face severe traditional and non-traditional security threats, especially given the recent spate
11:49of attacks that have resulted in casualties among peacekeepers.
11:52Furthermore, the investigations and accountability efforts have been unsatisfactory.
11:58Therefore, further action by the Security Council is extremely necessary and urgent.
12:05Beijing issued a warning to Taipei following a massive multi-billion dollar weapons deal
12:10between the United States and Taiwan.
12:12Shang Han, spokeswoman for the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, stated on Wednesday that
12:18no matter how many weapons the Li Shang-tei administration purchases, it will not alter what she called
12:25the inevitable demise of Taiwan's cessation.
12:28The remarks from the central government came in direct response to a massive $14 billion United
12:34States arms sale recently approved by Washington.
12:38Beijing reiterates that foreign arms shipment will fade to change the cross-strait political reality.
12:50There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is part of China, which is a historical and legal
12:56fact that no one can change or shake.
13:00And it is also a common consensus of the international community.
13:04China's firm opposition to the United States' sale of weapons to China's Taiwan region is consistent
13:09and clear, we urge the US side to abide by the one-China principle and the three-China-U.S.
13:18join communikis, and handle the Taiwan question with caution.
13:24No matter what fallacies Li Shang-tei spreads or how many weapons he purchases, it cannot change
13:29Taiwan's status as part of China, nor can it change the ironclad rule that Taiwan's future
13:35can only be decided by all the Chinese people, including the compatriots in Taiwan.
13:40Nor can it change the inevitable demise of Taiwan's cessation.

17:21This national holiday, which honors the sacrifice of the liberators commanded by Simón Bolívar,

18:50Despite complaints from candidate Iván Cepeda,
18:53the National Electoral Council described the June 23rd vote counting process
18:57as one of the most closely monitored in the country's history.
19:00A commission of CNA magistrates is reviewing the voting telly as submitted by Colombia's 32 departments,
19:08as well as the results from Colombians living abroad.
19:11Electoral authorities emphasize that there is still no estimated date
19:15for officially declaring the winner of the presidential run-of-election.
19:28In a recent message shared on his ex-account, Colombian President Gustavo Petro
19:32is calling for the announcement of his country's recent presidential election,
19:36alleging direct and public interference by the United States.
19:39The President wrote,
19:40President Donald Trump's direct intervention invalidates the elections in Colombia.
19:44If we consider the international treaties that protect nations, including those of the United Nations and the OAS,
19:52and our own constitution, why aren't they speaking out?
19:55In this sense, he draw a parallel between the Colombian and Romanian cases.
20:00By what right does Western Europe annul an election due to foreign interference in Romania?
20:05Yet Colombia does not.
20:07Especially since, unlike in Romania, the act of interference is public and had been admitted by the what right?
20:13In states where there is only one reason for this enormous global contradiction of power,
20:20a power that claims to be democratic but allows genocide to occur.
20:25In Romania, the winner of the election was not a friend of Western Europe but of Russia.
20:47Colombia has secured its spot in the world qualifiers after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Democratic Republic
20:53of Congo,
20:54teams that put up a strong fight at the Guadalajara Stadium.
20:58The South Americans dominated the early position but Congolese goalkeeper Lionel Impasi was an absolute wall in the first half,
21:06making multiple incredible says to deny James Rodriguez and keep Colombia frustrated.
21:11The breakthrough finally arrived in the 76th minute.
21:15When back, Daniel Muñoz clinically smashed home the decisive goal after previously having a first half-effort rule out by
21:22Barr.
21:23The Democratic Republic of Congo pushed hard for a late equalizer,
21:26but Colombia held firm to claim all three points and take control of Group K.
21:47In a new escalation of its maximum pressure policy against Cuba,
21:51the United States government imposed new sanctions against five companies and one Cuban citizen.
21:56The affected entities include the financial firms Rafinha and International Financial Bank,
22:02the logistics company Universal Source, the state-run Geo Minera and the José Martí Steel Enterprise,
22:09which is the island's primary metallurgical complex.
22:12Additionally, sanctions were imposed on Analia Lilian Rueda, wife of Alejandro Castro's Pink,
22:17who was previously targeted by the United States Administration.
