00:00In Venezuela Executive Vice President Delsi Rodriguez highlighted the people's
00:12commitment to defending the nation during the formation of the Bolivarian grassroots
00:16comedies. In Brazil COP30 continues on its third day amid calls for social and
00:26climate justice in the Amazon. And in Palestine civil defence teams recover
00:33nearly 20 bodies buried under the rubble of the Sheikh Radwan Clinic in Gaza.
00:43Hello and welcome to From the South. I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:48We begin with the news. Stay with us.
00:56In Venezuela Executive Vice President Delsi Rodriguez highlighted the people's commitment
01:06to defending the nation during the formation of the Bolivarian grassroots comedies. In this
01:11context the Executive Vice President stated that the popular assemblies formed to create
01:16the Bolivarian grassroots comedies are calling on Venezuelans to continue guaranteeing peace.
01:21Delsi Rodriguez also reaffirmed that the people must be prepared to defend national sovereignty
01:27in the face of constant interference by the United States in the Caribbean Sea. In this
01:33scenario of preparation for defence President Nicolás Maduro has enacted the law of the command
01:39for the integral defence of the nation with the aim of ensuring the self-determination of the homeland.
01:45In Venezuela the upper phase of the independence 200 plan continues with the installation of
01:57integral defence commandos. The operations took place in Apures State, Cogedes State and also the
02:03capital district. In this scenario the Bolivarian National Armed Forces were deployed in a police
02:09military-military-popular union. These exercises aim to defend the country from foreign interference.
02:16As President Nicolás Maduro has reputedly stated, the Plan Independence 200 has been deployed since
02:22early September under the concept of active and permanent defence resistance and its upper phase seeks to
02:30optimize command, control and communications within the framework of the armed and unarmed forms of struggle for the
02:37comprehensive defence of the nation.
02:49And the Russian Senate urges parliamentarians around the world to reject the United States military threats
02:55near the Venezuelan coast in the Caribbean. The Federation Council calls on the Inter-Parliamentary Union
03:00and other parliaments worldwide to speak out in favour of preserving peace in the Latin American and Caribbean region.
03:08They also stated that the provocative actions of the United States against the sovereignty of Venezuela
03:14contradict the universally recognised principles and norms of international law, including the Charter of the United Nations.
03:24The legislators emphasized that Russia and Venezuela are bound by relations of partnership and strategic cooperation
03:32and renewed their commitment to continue strengthening collaboration with the Venezuelan National Assembly.
03:38And Colombian President Gustavo Petro ordered the suspension of intelligence sharing with U.S. security agencies in response to the bombing of ships in the Caribbean and the Pacific.
03:52Next, the Colombian President issued an order to all levels of security and military to suspend the transfer of intelligence communications to the United States.
04:02Petro emphasized that the decision will remain in effect as long as missile attacks against boats in the Caribbean and the Pacific continue.
04:11Furthermore, President Petro described the attacks as extrajudicial executions.
04:16According to reported figures, these actions have resulted in the sinking of 20 boats and the death of at least 76 people.
04:25Likewise, the United Kingdom suspended part of its intelligence sharing with the United States due to attacks in the Caribbean Sea.
04:38London expressed concern that Washington could use information from British intelligence.
04:44The United Kingdom, which controls several territories in the region, has helped the United States locate vessels suspected of transporting drugs.
04:53Therefore, this decision marks a significant break between the two countries.
05:00In other information, the candidates in Chile's presidential election ended their campaigns on Tuesday with five days to go before the ballots opened.
05:12The presidential candidate for the governing unity for Chile coalition, Janet Jara, closed her campaign with a rally in the historic Plaza de MaipĂş attended by around 20,000 people.
05:26The flag bearer for eight left-wing, social democratic and progressive parties, plus the Christian Democrats, expressed her excitement about the rally in this square where Chile's independence was sealed.
05:39For his part, the far-right candidate Jose Antonio Casta was accompanied by about 10,000 people in downtown Santiago at the Movistar Arena, where the conservative representative reiterated his intention to establish an emergency government to address insecurity.
05:58Precisely, on her final campaign speech, Chilean Communist Party candidate Janet Jara promised a government agenda focused on increasing public safety in neighborhoods without discrimination and hatred.
06:17I want to express my heartfelt thanks for your presence at this historic moment, in which not only a presidential candidacy is at stake, but also a national project that looks toward the future, one very different from other projects that place hatred, fear and hopelessness at their center.
06:41We do not want hatred. We do not want hatred. We do not want discrimination. We do not want the legitimate fear of many families of being mugged to be used as a political tool.
06:56I want to tell you something. In my government, there will be greater public safety in neighborhoods with a preventive approach.
07:03We go now to Peru. The prosecutor's office reopened the preliminary investigation against former president Ollanta Humala for his alleged involvement in crimes during his service as a soldier in counter-insurgency operations.
07:20The first prosecutor's office, specializing in human rights and anti-terrorism, stated that the investigations will last for eight months, during which time evidence will be searched for that justifies opening a criminal trial.
07:35This new investigation includes former military personnel Tobias Uirangi Iranga, Nicanor Guerra, AmĂlcar GĂłmez and Russell Pela, who are alleged to be responsible for torture, murder and forced disappearance during the internal armed conflict from 1980 to 2000.
07:54And now we have a short break coming up. But first, remember, you can join us on Tik Tok at Telesur English, where you'll find news in different formats, news updates and much more. We'll be right back. Stay with us.
08:08Welcome back to From the South. The Guatemalan government has submitted 358 complaints of alleged corruption to the public prosecutor's office since the beginning of 2024.
08:30131 of these complaints are related to the administrative sector, 59 to health, 45 to infrastructure, 43 to security, 16 to labour, 14 to education and social development and 131 with other sectors.
08:48In light of the alleged attempt by the public prosecutor's office to cover up the case, the country's president Bernardo Arevalo reiterated that no case will be ignored or go unpunished.
08:59Arevalo explained that each complaint is rigorously reviewed and results in concrete measures that allow those responsible to be punished and new regularities to be prevented.
09:16We go now to Costa Rica. Hundreds of people took to the streets to protest against the policies of President Rodrigo Chávez's government.
09:23The protest is taking place amid growing public outrage after parliament refused to left the president's immunity so he could be tried for corruption.
09:32Chávez faces charges of extortion by the prosecutor's office, a crime that carries a maximum sentence of eight years in prison.
09:41However, a judicial proposal to remove his parliamentary immunity was rejected by legislators, generating severe criticisms from civil society groups and opponents who call the act a blow to democracy.
09:54On Wednesday, COP30 focuses its debates on progress in climate change negotiations, issues of adaptation, finance and the importance of health in the climate change.
10:13are being addressed from the city of Belém du Pará. More than 170 countries exchanged their views on the environment.
10:32However, challenges such as financing and the need to accelerate climate action persist on Wednesday and Thursday.
10:39Other issues related to health, employment, education, culture and human rights will also be discussed.
10:46In Brazil, hundreds of vessels participate in a boat parade during the first day of the People's Summit happening alongside COP30.
10:59For this, 5,000 people on 200 boats are sailing along the Amazon River basin as part of a symbolic mobilization that signifies a call for social and climate justice in the Amazon.
11:12The People's Summit brings together 20,000 participants from all continents who seek to pressure COP30 members to move forward with negotiations and actual solutions to climate crisis.
11:25It comes as well in a context where many do not believe on promises made at the conference on their way in Belém du Pará given the gathering's history of not taking sufficient action to tackle climate issues.
11:38After the devastating impact of Hurricane Melissa, Cuba makes progress in restoring basic services in the eastern provinces of the country.
11:59The National Defense Council inspected the most affected areas and continues to monitor recovery efforts in the provinces of HolguĂn, Granma, Santiago de Cuba and Guantánamo.
12:10In this regard, authorities specified that they continue to work on restoring power in Santiago de Cuba, the hardest hit province.
12:18The Minister of Energy and Mines reported the progressive re-activation over the next few hours of all the substations in Santiago in order to restore services.
12:33In China, Taiwanese authorities ordered the evacuation of more than 8,300 people from coastal and mountainous areas in anticipation of the arrival of a tropical storm caused by Typhoon Fenghuang.
12:48According to the National Fire Agency, most of the evacuees are residents of the eastern county of Hualien due to recent flooding and overflow.
12:57In addition, authorities reported that the rainfall left at least 51 people injured who are receiving medical attention.
13:04Previously, Typhoon Fenghuang hit the Philippines with the force of a super typhoon causing flooding, landslides, power outages and at least the 27 deaths.
13:16For its part, a study on the Global Climate Risk Index prepared by Germán Huach revealed that the number of extreme climate events between 1995 and 2024 exceeded 9,700, causing more than 830,000 deaths worldwide.
13:39According to this document, 40% of the world's population lives in countries particularly affected by this type of phenomenon.
13:46And the last of the 11 countries with the greatest climate impact include the Dominican Republic, Myanmar, Honduras, Libya, Haiti, Grenada, the Philippines, Nicaragua, India, the Bahamas and China.
13:58And in other informations in China, President Xi Jinping welcomed King Felipe VI of Spain to Beijing who is on an official visit to the Asian giant.
14:14King Felipe VI recalled that since the first visit by the Spanish crown in 1978, a solid bilateral relationship based on mutual trust has been forged.
14:25The Chinese leader recognized the Spanish royal house's contributions to developing relations between the two countries.
14:32He emphasized that together they have set an example of friendly coexistence and joint development between countries with different histories, cultures and social systems.
14:43The monarch who last visited the Asian countries during the 2008 Olympic Games stated that since then China's advancement and progress has been very notable.

15:41On Wednesday, Democrats of the House Oversight Comedy published three new emails which revealed that Trump was aware of the sex trafficking network operated by Epstein.

16:06The new information increases the public pressure on the White House to release the Epstein files containing the names of high-profile clients of the late convicted pedophile financier.
16:22Meanwhile, local media reports that Chris Lane Maxwell plans to ask President Trump to commit her 20-year sentence.
16:30Maxwell's prayer for clemency would be accompanied by legal documents prepared and provided by her defense team.
16:38Maxwell was convicted in 2022 for facilitating and participating in the sexual exploitation network organized by Jeffrey Epstein.

17:15after the ceasefire deal.
17:18Satellite images from international media show the destruction and advance of Zionist plans in Palestinian territory.
17:25In this regard, videos expose Israeli massive demolition of houses and buildings since the start of the ceasefire in October.
17:34The actual number of structures destroyed could be much higher due to limitations in satellite coverage.
17:40In this context, experts warn that Tel Aviv is clearly violating the ceasefire agreement and delaying its withdrawal in order to advance the occupation of the West Bank.
17:51When we stay in Palestine, civil defense teams managed to recover nearly 20 bodies that were buried under the rubble of the Sheikh Radwan Clinic in Gaza City,
18:08after the Israeli occupation forces exhumed the graves in their last raid.
18:14The civil defense declared that most of the corpses remain unidentified while it estimates that between 80 and 90 people remain buried under the clinic's rounds.
18:24Due to genocide perpetrated by the Israeli army, residents have been forced to bury their family members in squares and streets amidst a climate of deep grief and consternation.
18:35Search and rescue teams continue their efforts to recover and identify the remains of the deceased.
18:46Palestinian authorities reported more than 6,000 amputations in the Gaza Strip due to Israeli aggression.
18:52Health authorities reported that 25% of those affected are minors and 12.7% are women.
18:59They also warned that the lack of medical resources and support teams is increasing the suffering of amputated and injured people.
19:07They pointed out the urgent need for rehabilitation services and psychological and social support.
19:13In addition, the World Health Organization warned that more than 42,000 Palestinians suffered permanent injuries and require long periods of rehabilitation.
19:24In other news, in Egypt polling stations in Giza governorates began vote counting for the parliamentary elections.
19:37Under the supervision of commission chairpersons and electoral supervisors, employees began the process by opening the ballot boxes and destroying the seals before proceeding to count the votes.
19:49After two days of voting in several governorates, the count in the assigned areas continued without interruption.
19:56Other regions are still waiting for their electoral process to begin in the coming weeks.
20:02The objective of the elections for the House of Representatives is to allocate 568 seats through a combination of systems, individual candidacies and party lists.
20:14In other information, in Georgia rescue and emergency teams continue the search for possible survivors after a Turkish military cargo plane crashed near the border with a survey.
20:31Turkish emergency teams are also working at the scene of the accident to secure the area and prevent further risks.
20:39The Turkish Ministry of Defense confirmed that the C-130 cargo plane was carrying 20 military personnel, of which 18 have already been recovered, all dead.
20:49The wreckage of the aircraft was scattered over a wide rural area near the village of Sinhanji.
20:56Although the official cause of the accident has not yet been announced, Turkey is expected to launch a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances.
21:11We go to France now. Farmers demand that the national government not sign the free trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosur.
21:20Farmers expressed the rejection of the agreement as it would undermine their positions in the European market.
21:27In this regard, they proposed incorporating an agricultural safeguard clause and measures to prevent the import of products that do not comply with the region's standards, including health and safety, and also environmental protection.
21:42Farmers mobilized after President Emmanuel Macron expressed optimism about the European Union-Mercosur Treaty actions that were described by the sector as betrayal and abandonment of the countryside.
