00:35Nations General Assembly.
00:42And on Monday during the ordinarization of the National Assembly of Venezuela, the Prime
00:46Minister of Frida and Tobago was declared persona non grata.
00:55Hello, welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the LSU Studios in Havana,
00:59Cuba.
01:00We begin with the news.
01:13After making the landfall Category 3 Hurricane, Melisa continues to move through the east of
01:17Cuba, triggering devastating effects to different infrastructures.
01:20In the sixth-game report, the eye of the hurricane was located over the city of Contra Maestre.
01:24Melisa has continued to weaken since making landfall, its maximum sustained winds decreased
01:29to 185 km per hour with higher gusts.
01:32The Category 3 storm continues moving northeast at 19 km per hour.
01:37World authorities reported that Melisa will continue to weaken slightly over the next 12
01:41to 24 hours as it impacts the land.
01:44Authorities also registered heavy and intense rainfall in several locations.
01:48In the last hours, 124 mm of rainfall have been recorded at the Contra Maestre weather station
01:53in Santiago.
02:01Heavy rainfall will continue as Melisa passes through, with accumulations of between 200
02:05and 450 mm over the next 24 hours.
02:09Strong swells with waves between 4 and 6 meters will continue in the seas south of the provinces
02:13of Granma, Santiago de Cuba and Guantánamo, increasing to heights of up to 8 meters in
02:18the early morning, with moderate to heavy flooding in low-laying areas of this coastline.
02:34Cuba and President Miguel Díaz Canel addressed the people of the eastern region ahead of the
02:37arrival of Hurricane Melisa and called to act responsibly during and after the passage of
02:42the storm.
02:43At the same time, the Cuban leader affirmed that multiple brigades are already on site
02:47to start the recovery operations as soon as the weather conditions allowed them.
02:52I believe that we have worked intensively, responsibly, with great dedication and effort,
02:59in a timely and consistent manner.
03:04This has enabled us to evacuate a large number of people to safe places, and to take measures
03:12to protect the main resources of the economy, and the belongings of people living in areas
03:18that are particularly vulnerable to flooding, landslides, or other types of danger.
03:26Now the most important thing is for all of us to act responsibly.
03:32For the population to strictly comply with the measures and guidelines issued by the defense
03:38authorities, at the regional, municipal, provincial, and national level.
03:45It should be noted that multiple teams are already in the eastern region of the country, in the provinces
03:54that will be most affected by this hurricane, to work in the recovery of the damages caused
03:59by the hurricane.
04:01In other words, there are already electricity brigades, water resource brigades, communications brigades,
04:11and construction brigades, that will work together with the forces of each territory to repair the damages.
04:18In addition, United Nations agencies have made resources available to the country in advance,
04:26and a group of resources is already in place to provide assistance and care to those affected by this weather event.
04:37In Cuba, Army General Raul Castro Cruz participated in the video conference led by the President of the Republic,
04:43Miguel Diaz Canel Bermudez, with the National Defense Council on the provinces that will face the impacts of Hurricane Melissa.
04:50Through Brigadier General Jose Amado Ricardo Guerra, he conveyed that he was keeping up-to-date
04:55with the evolution of the phenomenon and the measures adopted, and will continue to monitor the situation.
05:01In a message, Raul expressed satisfaction with the responsibility with which the work was carried out
05:06and the level of preparation achieved, while reminding those involved of the need to maintain maximum discipline
05:11during the event and in the following phases.
05:16In other news, at least 26 people were injured when they reacted in panic to the collapse of several buildings
05:25following a 6.1 magnitude earthquake west of Turkey.
05:28According to the authorities' report, citizens were injured after jumping out of windows or running away in a hurry in the province of Balik Qasir.
05:35In this regard, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlukaya assured that there were no fatalities after the earthquake that occurred on Monday night.
05:43In this context, and on the instructions of the government, teams from the Provincial Directorate of the Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change
05:50remained deployed to assess the damage caused while removing debris in the affected areas.

06:26Welcome back.
06:31On Tuesday morning, the 21st plenary meeting of the ADF session of the United Nations General Assembly
06:36considered the resolution and necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba.
06:43Several representatives of the international community reiterated the rejection of the blockade,
06:47which has been characterized as a violation of international law and the principles of the Charter of the United Nations.
06:52Since 1992, the UN has consecutively approved resolutions calling for an end to the blockade.
06:58This is the 34th time Cuba has presented such a resolution to the international organization.
07:03However, the United States rejected these claims intensifying the economic oppression on the island.
07:08The resolution will be put to a vote by UN member states on October 29th.
07:22And in this context, in use of a right to point of order, the Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez interrupted the US representative to provide a strong response to his address.
07:32In 61 and 68 of the rules, the permanent representative of the United States is not only lying, substantively deviating from the subject,
07:45but is also grossly and expressing against his president, against the dignity of the assembly and the member states.
07:55He is doing so in an uncivilized, crude and gross way that is not acceptable in this democratic forum.
08:08Mr. Walts, this is the United Nations General Assembly.
08:14It is not a signal chat, nor is it the House of Representatives.
08:21In an exclusive interview with Telesur, the Cuban Foreign Minister referred to the threat posed by the United States military deployment in the Caribbean.
08:30Well, I spoke on our strong rejection on the threat that the US government is creating against peace, security and stability in the region and also in the world.
08:53It is a military deployment that we know that it doesn't work to face scourges like drug trafficking, but it constitutes an existential threat against the independence of Venezuela and all other nations of our region against sovereignty of all states.
09:18Also, the permanent representative of Colombia to the UN, Leonor Zalapata, denounces the inclusion of Cuba as a country sponsor of terrorism.
09:27The unjust and unilateral inclusion of Cuba on the list of state sponsors of terrorism constitutes an unjustified measure that is aggravating the effects of the embargo and which ignores its historic contribution to peace.
09:48And Colombia can attest to that.
09:50And Colombia can attest to that.
09:53Cuba has been a fundamental actor in the pursuit of peace in our country, playing a central role in the achievement of the final peace agreement in 2016 between the government and the FARC-EP.
10:08And also supporting its implementation, particularly the processes relating to the ceasefire, disarmament, demobilization and the reintegration of ex-combatants.
10:21And Cuba described as a disrespectful speech by the United States representative to the United Nations General Assembly on the need to end the financial blockade imposed by Washington against the island.
10:31Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Ana Yancy Rodriguez, described as a disrespectful and uncivilized speech in Washington that diminishes the Cuban struggle and falsely accuses the Cuban government of threatening its national security and supporting terrorism, as well as violating the freedoms of its citizens.
10:47The Deputy Foreign Minister emphasized that despite the intimidating attitudes of the United States, the world will once again show overwhelming support for Cuba, as well as for the lifting of the blockade and for justice, truth and international law to be respected for the Cuban people.

11:21In the United States, the Senate approved a measure ending the national emergency declaration invoked to impose tariffs on Brazilian products.
11:23Legislators approved the measure with 52 votes in favor and 48 against, after some of the
11:29the legislators emphasized that such trade measures affect U.S. consumers.
11:30The national emergency was declared by U.S.
11:34President Donald Trump in July.

11:36for the indictment of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.

11:41in vote to impose tariffs on Brazilian products.
11:42Legislators approved the measure with 52 votes in favor and 48 against, after some of the
11:43the legislators emphasized that such trade measures affect U.S. consumers.
11:56The national emergency was declared by U.S. President Donald Trump in July, in retaliation
12:01for the indictment of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, accused of attempting a coup d'etat.
12:06The Senate's action takes place while the U.S. President is on a five-day tour of Malaysia,
12:11Japan, South Korea and China.
12:13The House is expected to approve other legislative measures to end Trump's tariffs against Canada
12:18and other countries around the world this week.
12:36In Brazil, at least 80 people died on Tuesday in Rio de Janeiro's most deadly police operation
12:41which targeted a major gun days before the city host global events related to the United Nations Climate Summit,
12:46known as COP30.
12:47Throughout the day, ambulances transported injured civilians and officials
12:51to the Quetulio Vargas State Hospital in Rio de Janeiro.
12:54Among them was agent Marcos Vinicius de Carvalho, who died upon arrival at the hospital due to gunshot wounds.
13:00According to health authorities, the hospital was overwhelmed after the arrival of the injured.
13:04Those members exceeded 80.
13:06The so-called contention operation mobilized about 2,500 security forces in favelas of Alamau and Peña.
13:11The National Assembly of Venezuela unanimously declared the Prime Minister of Finland, Tobago,
13:28Camila Persat-Vicesar Persona Non Grata for her complicity with the United States in its aggression against Venezuela.
13:35The decision backed by all political sectors in Parliament was a resounding response to the government of
13:40Trinidad and Tobago's decision to open its doors to U.S. military forces responsible for criminal acts in the Caribbean.
13:47The President of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez, emphasized the decision and supported all measures agreed
13:52by the National Executive to denounce and suspend all energy agreements signed with Trinidad and Tobago
13:57in response to the country's submissive behavior towards a foreign power.
14:07Trinidad and Tobago praises the United States' attack and calls for the elimination of all drug traffickers.
14:14Because the rule of law no longer exists.
14:21Because international relations cease to exist.
14:24Because international law is being brushed aside.
14:28And this lady should read a little about the history of Trinidad and Tobago
14:35so she knows how empires treat their colonies.
14:41So they know how Trinidad and Tobago was exchanged for Menorca in the Treaty of Amiens, because it belonged to the Captaincy General of Venezuela,
14:51and how, after some skirmishes and battles between England and Spain, the two kings shaked hands yes,
14:58and how they exchanged them like trump cards, give me Trinidad and Tobago, and I'll give you Menorca back.
15:05That is the fate of the colonies when they no longer serve the purposes of Marco Rubio.
15:14They will be discarded like rubbish.
15:17They will be exchanged for currency as they did in 1798 with Trinidad and Tobago.
15:24You should learn from your own history that this is the devil's embrace.
15:33That this will only lead to suffering and more acute poverty for the people of Trinidad.
15:43The President of the Venezuelan National Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez, also assured that for years Venezuela was generous with Trinidad and Tobago in terms of hydrocarbons.
15:54We don't need gas from Venezuela.
16:04When the mouse arrives, we'll see if you don't need gas from Venezuela.
16:09We'll see if it wasn't as generous as that energy agreement signed between one of the largest gas reserves on the entire planet located in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
16:36And a country that has completely depleted its gas reserves.
16:43In the fertile lands of the state of Aragua, Banana or Camburas it is called in Venezuela is not only a fundamental pillar of the local cuisine but also a source of employment that boosts the local and national economy.
17:11Our colleague, Alvaro Fragua, who continues to explore this great country, brings us the following report.
17:17Under optimal conditions of sunlight and humidity, plantains and bananas have become the heart of the economy in Santa Cruz de Aragua.
17:24Behind every fruit lies an organized community that lives from the land and in it has found a future.
17:30All the staff are around here on the farm.
17:37They're all locals, from different towns, some from llamas, and even some from Sucre.
17:45Right now, we have about 70 direct workers, and with indirect ones, we reach around 120.
17:53Each bunch requires precise care. The cut becomes art. Farmers learn from a young age how to cut, clean, and select the fruit, respecting the cycles of nature.
18:03It's hard work, but full of pride.
18:06To cut the bunch that's ready for harvest. Look, these leaves will be trimmed to make it easier to cut the bunch.
18:15The rope here, a small knot. All the leaves. Then he comes. Come and lift it. It's cut high so that this stem will feed the sprout. That's coming up that one will be ready for the second harvest.
18:38On the farms, women are also key. Their work and joy make the harvest a collective task, where production blends with daily life and family ties.
18:49Yes, yes. Well, they're almost like my family because I work with my mother-in-law and sister-in-law. And yes, we have fun here. We tell jokes, gossip, everything. We talk about a bit of everything.
19:01Once cut, the plantain is washed and prepared for distribution throughout the country, but also to Curaçao, Aruba, and Bonaire. With a stable weekly production workers are already thinking about the next step, global export.
19:14We're ready because we follow a cycle, a weekly harvest cycle. We already have a production plan for three to four years. And if we keep it up, with God's help, we'll last much longer.
19:34With the management we've achieved and the quality of fruit we are harvesting for the national market, we are now ready to export this fruit worldwide and open new horizons with the good work and careful handling we've achieved.
