00:00Ted, I saw this over the weekend that Drake May came out as sixth favorite for the MVP odds for
00:06this coming season behind Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, and Joe Burrow.
00:12However, I did look at my FanDuel app today, and Drake's third there.
00:17So maybe things have changed over the last couple days, or there's just dueling sites on this.
00:21They have Allen one, Lamar two, Drake three.
00:25So that's a little more respect.
00:26How do you see this?
00:27Where should Drake be on this?
00:28It's interesting because you look at Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and all of them, and even
00:41Justin Herbert to some degree, all have changes in their coaches, whether it's head coaches or offensive coordinators.
00:50And so I do think Justin Herbert is going to have a better year because he's got the new offensive
00:57coordinator, Mike McDaniels, which I think he's a much better offensive coordinator than his head coach.
01:04Lamar Jackson has participated in offseason workouts for the first time ever.
01:09He's bought into what the new coach is bringing.
01:11Joe Burrow thinks that the roster that the Bengals have is the best roster that he's had since he got
01:18there.
01:19Josh Allen has a new head coach.
01:22Patrick Mahomes has Eric Biennemi coming back to coach the offense when he was in there.
01:29EB was there when he was lighting it up.
01:31See you.
01:32See you, go Buffs.
01:33EB.
01:34He's our guy, man.
01:35So all of those guys, all those quarterbacks are feeling kind of a renewed sense.
01:40They're very happy with where they're at.
01:42And Matthew Stafford is Matthew Stafford.
01:44So I understand why maybe a lot of those guys are maybe put ahead of them of May.
01:49I still don't think it's accurate.
01:52The only thing I can think of is why May is further down on the list is because of the
01:56schedule.
01:56It's just, it's a really, really difficult schedule.
02:01I mean, the Patriots, I know that now he played tough defenses in the playoffs, but MVPs, they don't include
02:08playoff performances.
02:09But they also got Vera Tucker.
02:11They got A.J. Brown.
02:12Maybe America just doesn't realize this stuff.
02:14They should know A.J. Brown happened.
02:15I mean, don't we think the offensive line should be considerably better?
02:19It can't be.
02:19I don't know that.
02:20Worse.
02:20I mean, I think it will be, but Vera Tucker may not play.
02:22Like, he's banged up all the time.
02:24You added another rookie tackle.
02:26So, like, I don't know.
02:27I don't know for sure it'll be better.
02:28I hope it is.
02:29I mean, Campbell was definitely not healthy in the playoffs, right?
02:31You would admit that.
02:32I guess.
02:33I mean, you know.
02:33I guess.
02:34I mean.
02:34Was he great before that?
02:35He was pretty good before the injury.
02:36He was better.
02:37It's true.
02:37He was better.
02:37But, I mean, he was just, it was awful.
02:40I mean, it was an awful display of what you saw there.
02:42I do think this is a bit disrespectful for Drake May, but I also think it's preseason MVP.
02:47Like, these guys are safe bets, you know?
02:49Like, Allen and Jax, these are guys who have won MVPs before.
02:53May's had one good season.
02:54I can see why preseason some of these guys would be safer, better, considered safer bets right now.
02:58I guess they're just bigger names with, I guess, better reputations long term.
03:02But it is when you, like, the Bengals were 6-11.
03:05Like, Zach Taylor seems to be like a mess.
03:07I mean, what's different about them?
03:10They added.
03:11Jake Browning was the quarterback most of the year, wasn't he?
03:13Yeah, yeah.
03:13So, I guess health and Dexter Lawrence is there.
03:15So, they did add a couple pieces.
03:17But don't you think, I mean, if you listen to, like, Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, Patrick Mahomes, they're all...
03:23Yeah, it sounds like the who's who.
03:24But they're all in probably a better situation.
03:29At least they feel the way they've talked in this offseason than they have been in the past.
03:33So, I think there's...
03:33It just depends on the coach.
03:34Like, if Joe Brady is a better coach, then I guess, Josh, it's...
03:38But he could be...
03:39Zach could be totally overwhelmed.
03:40What do we think about Joe Brady?
03:41I don't know much about him.
03:42I mean, but the only thing I'm thinking is that Joe Brady's the head coach because Josh Allen wanted him
03:47to be the head coach.
03:48So, he believes in the guy.
03:49So, Josh Allen's the head coach.
03:49Yeah, right.
03:50So, but you asked me, our boy Brian Hoyer.
03:54Yeah, he just put out his quarterbacks, right?
03:56He had his top five slash six quarterbacks rankings.
04:01I find this interesting.
04:03But if you ever talk to Hoyer, oh, my God.
04:06And even Castle, it's...
04:09He has number one rated quarterback in his top five, Matthew Stafford.
04:15I've never hung out with quarterbacks that love Matthew Stafford more than those two guys.
04:21Well, Stafford's not even on this list of MVPs.
04:23He's disrespected the most, I guess.
04:24That's unreal.
04:25That is.
04:25I just thought about it.
04:26That's unreal.
04:27You're right.
04:28But Hoyer has him number one.
04:30He has May number two.
04:31He's a big fan of May, just like I am.
04:34He has Josh Allen number three, Patrick Mahomes.
04:37Four.
04:37Four.
04:38He sees it like I see it.
04:40And then he has for his fifth rated quarterback, Brian Hoyer has Lamar Jackson and the most Brian
04:46Hoyer thing of all slash Joe Burrow.
04:48So, he's got two quarterbacks at his fifth spot.
04:52Yeah.
04:52Oh, I don't hate that list.
04:53Arcand, it's funny.
04:54Like, May...
04:54I don't think May is going to have, like, chip on his shoulder.
04:56Things went pretty well for him last year.
04:58But he does have some ammo to be like, people think I'm a fluke.
05:02Yeah.
05:02You know?
05:02And people think what you saw in the playoffs was the real me.
05:05Yeah.
05:05You know?
05:06And that whole regular season was just kind of, yeah, we were going up against bad offenses.
05:09Which I don't think that.
05:10But I think that that's sort of why this season, why A.J. Brown was such a big deal.
05:14Because coming into this season, I think people with the offense weren't sure what to expect.
05:18Like, we had this great regular season and then a really bad postseason.
05:22Like, he didn't have one good playoff game.
05:23You know?
05:24So, I think that that has people kind of...
05:27And then you get A.J. Brown and it's like, okay, well, even if he did sort of veer off
05:31towards being a playoff quarterback, what we saw in the playoffs, A.J. Brown will bring
05:35him back.
05:36You know?
05:36So, I do think that the ratings are pretty low.
05:39Like, surprisingly low, I would say.
05:40And maybe the variable stuff does factor in.
05:43My guess is a little bit of that.
05:44It's factored in.
05:45It's impending doom that still something's going to come out.
05:47But it's died.
05:48Like, it's just a dark cloud that's going to impact the team.
05:51A lot of teams that lose the Super Bowl, they have a hard time fighting their way back.
05:56But I would also...
05:57My argument would be, this is the first time, maybe since his high school years, that Drake
06:03Mays had the same coordinator two years in a row.
06:06He didn't have...
06:07He had a different coordinator every year when he was at North Carolina.
06:10He had a different coordinator every year in the first two years with the Patriots.
06:15And now he's finally got a coordinator for the second year in a row who's, I think most
06:19of us think, is a really highly talented offensive coordinator, Josh McDaniels.
06:24And to his credit, like, anything, any news you've seen from Drake May this offseason
06:27has been throwing the ball to Shime or, like, going to Worcester to play in the softball
06:31tournament or hanging out with the wife in the Caribbean or something.
06:33He's done nothing controversial at all.
06:35And it doesn't seem like that...
06:36I don't think he ever will.
06:36...in any part of his makeup.
06:38So, you don't even have to worry about that at all.
06:40Yeah.
06:41He doesn't seem like someone that's going to get, you know...
06:43No.
06:43Cotton Sedona.
06:44Right.
06:44I know, exactly.
06:45He does seem pretty wealthy.
06:48Cotton Sedona or else just totally, you know, putting his face out on every commercial
06:54and where that's...
06:55That marketing, you know, where he wants to make money off the field, too.
06:58It looks like he's just...
06:59All he wants to be is just a great quarterback.
