Patriots clinched the AFC East division title- Is Drake Maye the NFL MVP?
Transcript
00:00And how can I not be great? Because an absolute walloping in New York yesterday for your New
00:04England Patriots, 42-10, the final. They end the season perfect on the road. And I mean,
00:12Mike Vrabel, I think if you watched him post-game yesterday, he is so proud of this team. He's so
00:19proud of Drake May. And everybody keeps asking, is Drake May your MVP? Is Drake May the MVP of
00:23the league? And he gives the same answer every time, you know, I don't have a vote in this,
00:28but there's nobody we would rather have to be our quarterback. And nothing is more true than
00:32that. Yeah. I mean, I think if you looked at that game yesterday, they dismantled the Jets,
00:37just like you said, undefeated on the road, the ultimate road warriors. I think the biggest
00:44thing is you, you, you start to look at this football team, a little bit of concern with
00:48some of the injuries that we've seen, especially with the Matt Collins one. I think what's he on
00:55I also, if he were to come back, it wouldn't be until, what would that shine be? AFC championship
01:00game. If you don't have a first round by, if you do have a first round by, he won't be back till
01:04the Superbowl. Right. So, I mean, he's one of those guys that it's going to be real. You,
01:08you know, you can't really count on him throughout the playoffs. You know, you roll the dice that he
01:12comes back that you get that far, but as far as this football team and the, the way, where they are
01:17right now, now you just sit here and you hope that some way, somehow the charges could be Denver
01:23in Denver, and that will be able to give you the one seed. You got to take care of business against
01:28a Miami team. That's scrappy. You know, they've been fighting. They, they, they beat, oh, who the
01:33hell Miami beat yesterday? Tampa Bay, right? Yeah. They beat Tampa Bay yesterday. So Miami scrapping,
01:39especially Quinn Hughes starting a quarterback. I think when you look at this Patriots football team,
01:44Drake MVP, very close. It's going to be come down to him and Stafford, but I ultimately think
01:49they're going to give it to Stafford. I agree. Shyam, I'm seeing already on the text line. Is
01:53there something up with my mic? People are saying that they're missing every other word that I'm
01:56saying. Oh, that's a them problem. Okay. Sound great. All right. Good. Um, no, very, very exciting
02:02yesterday. I also thought it was great to see Steph Diggs have a good game or Mondray Stevenson
02:06looked great. Um, there was a moment before halftime and I'm wondering if Wiggy could maybe have
02:11some more insight on that between Vrabel and Barmore. Oh yeah. I remember that. What?
02:15So the play on it, uh, the, uh, offensive lineman, the rookie kid and, um, uh, Membu,
02:23is that his name? I'm on Membu. Membu. So after the play, he kind of jumped on Barmore who was on
02:30the ground, like kind of hit him with a little cheap show, a little dirty play. Uh, cause the
02:35play had went by and he pushed him to the ground and Barmore was on the ground. You know, sometimes
02:38you see the offensive line lineman kind of basically do a suplex on the guy. That's what
02:44he did. Barmore didn't like it. And then Barmore was heated and Vrabel was trying to get him
02:49to cool down, but he was so caught up in the moment. It looked like they were going back
02:54and forth, but Vrabes, it looked like he was just telling him, Hey, calm down, relax that
02:58we know it's a dirty play. Don't get yourself thrown out of the game or in a situation where
03:03you could affect the team with a penalty or that kind of thing. Uh, also when do we get
03:08Will Campbell back? We're going to get him post season. No. So technically I believe he's
03:13eligible, eligible to return to practice this week. Right. But do you think we see him in
03:18Miami? Because yes, I understand he, they're a scrappy team, but the, the next thing that
03:21Vrabel wanted to do was win the division. They've got that AFC East, uh, after the bills
03:26fall to the Eagles, uh, later yesterday in the afternoon. Um, so do you think that there
03:32we'll see maybe guys not play in this one? No, guys will play. Yeah. Wiggy, I'm curious
03:37your thoughts. Cause I asked Ted about this yesterday on the football show, like knowing
03:41kind of you're locked in, you have a first round game at home. You're kind of unsure
03:46of, uh, exactly where you're going to be seated, but there's a light strong likelihood. You're
03:51going to be the two or three seed, right? Do you rest guys like in the second half at
03:55all? Just since you're not going to get a bi-week, do you give guys that time off to try
03:59and rest up a little bit, or do you just play them the full game and hope you get the one
04:03seed? I don't think you can, because you look at this great by the Philadelphia Eagles to
04:08beat Buffalo. So that ultimately locks you in with the division winner. The only issue
04:13is what time, let's see what time that charges charges game is. I believe both games are at
04:18four 25 game and the Broncos game. All right. So you can't sit your guys knowing that the
04:24door is still open for you to win the one seed, right? Because if the charges, uh, win
04:29you become the one seed. So you can't give that game away. The Will Campbell situation.
04:34I think if Will Campbell's healthy, ready to go, you play him, give him a game to kind
04:39of knock some of the rust off. But if he's not, he needs like another week. Um, for Darian
04:45Lowe has been playing well enough where you go, okay, we'll sit. We'll Campbell out for
04:49another week, but I don't think you could sit your place because that one seed is still
04:53available. There's a likelihood, you know, I don't know what the percentage is, but there's
04:58a likelihood that the charges could go into Denver and beat Denver because the charges
05:03are obviously fighting for, uh, where they're going to be seated when it comes to wildcard
05:09fifth, sixth or seventh, that that will determine where they're going to probably have to go on
05:13the road. Cause they don't have no chance with them losing to the Texans. They don't have
05:17no chance of basically being able to outdo, uh, Denver. So no, you don't sit. I don't
05:23think you could sit anybody in this game.
05:26Uh, yesterday was a big day for your new England Patriots after getting a, an absolute, just
05:31a cakewalk of a win over the New York jets. You got to sit back and watch Josh Allen choke
05:37away a win and you secured the AFC East because Josh Allen missed a throw that, uh, half of
05:44maybe, maybe all of the playoff quarterbacks would have hit at the end of the game yesterday.
05:48Just absolutely swung and missed on a wide open Khalil Shakir on a two point play that
05:53would have won them the game. Uh, when you had been, you know, held the Philadelphia Eagles
05:57to basically no offense in the second half could have taken the extra point and just
06:01played for OT because Jalen hurts did not complete a pass in the second half. And yet
06:05somehow the Eagles still won. So I like that call going for two down there. Do you at home
06:09though? Because here's the thing, right? I guess maybe the, the, the idea is what's
06:15the likelihood of you getting down to the three yard line and having an opportunity to score
06:21in overtime, right? I don't think you needed to though. Jalen hurts hadn't completed a pass
06:26in the second half. All you needed to do is kick a field goal in overtime, right? But there's,
06:29but there's no guarantee of that, right? There's no, there's no guarantee that all you need
06:33is a field goal. What if Jalen hurts, you know, gives it the sake one and he, now he goes
06:37the length of the field. Now you need a touchdown, a score and you got to go, you know, 70, 65
06:42yards, whatever it is where, when you're in that position and you go, okay, we're on the
06:48three yard line. We got one play, but if we, if we, if we make this play, we're going to
06:54win the football game and we're getting it from the three yard line. So I feel like maybe
06:57that's why they go for it down there. I guess so. Uh, to me, it, I would have taken
07:02what you were kicking, you were kicking Philly's ass in the second half straight up. Like
07:06it wasn't even close. Philly could not move the ball on offense. Right. I just
07:09felt like you take the extra point and play, especially cause it's at home. I
07:12understand if you're on the road, like if that was reversed and it was Philly
07:15going for it, I totally get it. But at home you were kicking ass. I would have just
07:19kicked the extra point. But regardless, the Patriots wake up this morning, AFC East
07:23champions for the first time since 2019. Uh, we're going to have a home playoff
07:27game. And Mike Vrabel was able to accomplish exactly what he wanted in year one, uh, with
07:34this franchise. He said at his introductory press conference, he wants to be playing playoff
07:39games at home again and winning playoff games at home. Now he has an opportunity to do that.
07:43You're going to draw most likely either the chargers or the bills in round one of the
07:48playoffs. If he finishes the two seed, uh, which I would love to see the chargers come
07:52into Gillette in a cold outdoor environment. I think that's a team you could absolutely beat
07:58in round one and sets up for a great path for the playoffs here. So I'm very excited.
08:02I cannot wait to see Drake may in the playoffs. It is, uh, one of the more anticipating anticipated
08:07things I have in 2026. Uh, and this is the year that I'm getting married and I can't wait
08:12to see Drake may, uh, play in the playoffs this year. So shout out to Drake may. I love
08:16him very much. I love it. I'm all right. Well, you, good morning. All right. Good morning.
08:19So when you start to look at this kind of to piggyback a little bit of, of shine's lead,
08:24but more so when you start to play out and we talked about this game against Miami, should
08:30you rest guys, should you play guys? Then it starts to factor in on the seeding element.
08:34Shine just talked about, all right, if you're the two seed and if the charges somehow, which
08:41it's going to be difficult when you will become the one seed, but can I just, there are some
08:48people in the text line that are saying that they're reading that the chargers, uh, situation
08:53is locked up. Like there, there's not true because if the chargers win, they would be
08:58the six seed locked in as a six seed. If they lose and Buffalo wins, there'll be the seven
09:03seven. And that was kind of, that was getting to my lead. So if Buffalo right now, if it
09:08went to chalk the way it is, like Shime said, you would be playing Buffalo at home, but Buffalo
09:15plays the jets next week who stink and the charges are on the road in Denver. So just based
09:21on that, you know, the likelihood charges be in Denver going to be tough, but they could
09:26do it, but the likelihood, not very good. So you being at the two seed, that means you
09:31would, that's why it's important for you to win. Cause if Buffalo wins, which they should,
09:37you'll be taking on the charges at home rather than having the bills come here and, and play
09:43you at home. Cause if you look at the AFC, the way it's going to shake out with the teams
09:47that are in the playoffs right now. I mean, what's the one team in this playoffs that
09:52really, really like scares you. If you watch the Pittsburgh Steelers yesterday and they
09:56got to play for their basically playoff life against Baltimore, it's really Josh Allen and
10:03the Buffalo bills. And I know he's dealing with that, that foot or ankle injury, but he's
10:08just so good that that's the one guy you want to try to avoid him as best as possible.
10:14He did look off yesterday though. That was not as bad. And, and injuries week after
10:19week, it seemed like Josh Allen's been banged up. So you just wonder if this is compacting
10:24every single week.
10:25But what they're down 13, nothing in that game. And he was able to kind of put that team
10:29back on his back. He made plays. I know he missed Shakir in the end zone. He's kind of
10:33rolling out to his left a little bit. And I guarantee you this, if he has that throw 10
10:39times, he probably makes it eight.
10:41Fascinating conversation during the broadcast. I don't know if you guys were watching
10:44when Tom Brady was discussing the different types of gloves that receivers wear. And
10:49when it gets slippery out there and then the plastic versus leather. Yes. I mean, it
10:53was talking about gloves. Can we let's not blow past the stop sign here. Tom Brady's
10:59outfit yesterday with the one gloved hand. Yes. What are we doing? It looks like a bond
11:04villain. We call that fashion. Is that what that is? That's what it is. I thought it was
11:08just living back his days. And when he played with the one glove, I don't even know, do
11:11guys still wear leather gloves, Tom? He was saying yesterday. They do? Yeah.
11:16Really? Yes. Apparently. Because during rain or when it's snowing, if there's any type of
11:21precipitation, the plastic gloves that usually have tacked and then they get slick. So the
11:26leather gloves, they switch over. I always like when the weather gets like that, you take
11:30them off. I didn't even know. Yeah. Because the ball went through Devante Smith's hands.
11:32He goes, yeah, there's those plastic gloves again. And I didn't know. I had no clue that they
11:36were wearing leather gloves. Oh yeah. He went on and on about it. It was a pretty interesting
11:39conversation. All right, Wiggy. Well, thank you. You got it. I am always fascinated at
11:44what quarterbacks buy their teammates when it comes to the holidays. And if you know
11:49me, if you've been listening to this show for the last year at least, you probably know
11:54where I'm going with this. Well, there's a few of them out there. It just depends on
11:57which quarterback you're going with. There's one in particular that this year specifically
12:01I had a conversation, a lengthy conversation with all of you about something. And there is
12:07one quarterback who I think falls in line with my thought that Jurassic Park is coming
12:11back. Oh, yes. Joe Burrow gifted his O-linemen last Monday fossils, real dinosaur fossils.
12:20Apparently he invited all the O-linemen over to his house last Monday. He had them on display
12:25and they all got to pick which fossil they wanted. Now, I would have rather a car or something
12:32like that. Right. That's very useful. But I think that, I mean, Ted Karras was talking
12:38to ESPN about it saying that he thought it was a really thoughtful gift. I believe he
12:41picked a woolly mammoth. Nice. Good choice. But for you, like if you're a player and your
12:47quarterback gifts that, I mean, you never look a gift in the mouth. What is it?
12:53Gift horse in the mouth. Gift horse in the mouth.
12:55Like, but is that, are you disappointed? I'm very disappointed. You are. I'm disappointed
13:00with Joe Burrow. I would be disappointed. Dak Prescott, you see what Dak Prescott got his
13:04guys? No. Oakley Sunglasses. And the guy's got a $300 million contract. They were talking.
13:11I want what Aaron Rodgers, he got the, the side-by-side, the Polaris, like ATV vehicles.
13:18Yep. Um, Brock Purdy, I think he was another one who got vehicles for his. ATV vehicles,
13:26like, okay, you're in, you're in Pittsburgh. So maybe these guys live out in the country,
13:29but it's not really useful for a lot of people. Shoot. Uh, the side-by-side? Yeah. Man,
13:34I'm going all, you live in the city. Yeah, but you could try that in the streets. You can?
13:40Side-by-side. Yeah. I don't think that those are street legal. Yeah. I mean, I think you can,
13:44they drive, don't they drive four wheelers in the street? Yeah. Yeah. All right. So you've
13:47just seen a side-by-side. It's, I'm going to look, it looks like a car. Okay.
