00:00One of the major stories this week, obviously, has been this Brandon Soresby story.
00:04And he is, without a doubt, the storyline that may change college sports
00:09and how we look at it moving forward.
00:12Look, initially, a judge in Lubbock County ended up giving him permission
00:16for him to be able to go and play in the 2026 college football season
00:20for the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
00:22Came back, well, the Big 12 said pump the brakes.
00:26They started teaming up in Texas Tech.
00:29Programs around the country also started refusing to schedule respected programs
00:34with the Texas Tech sports programs.
00:37And Kirby Holcutt, the athletic director, had to do something.
00:41And he did.
00:41He basically told Brandon Soresby, look, you can keep your $4.1 million nil deal.
00:47However, you are not going to be playing in the 2026 season.
00:52So Brandon Soresby has now officially applied for the supplemental draft.
00:56You know, this is a story that really has galvanized a lot of people on what you should do
01:01when you have a player like this when we're talking gambling.
01:05Over 9,000 bets.
01:07Some bets, again, on the under on many of his teammates when he was at Indiana
01:12and when he was at Cincinnati.
01:14How do you sit and look and evaluate a player like this for the upcoming supplemental draft?
01:19By the way, July 10th, he has a pro day, and it's being reported that over 26 NFL teams
01:26are going to send their either general manager or their pro personnel directors to this workout.
01:32He's a first-round talent.
01:34Should he get the ability to have an opportunity to play?
01:36Of course he should.
01:38Listen, you know, in the National Football League, we talk about character all the time,
01:42and we talk about what kind of player and what kind of people you want in your organization.
01:47I get it.
01:48Gambling is a taboo.
01:49That's one of the things that really the National Football League frowns on,
01:53and there's really both sides of this.
01:55You know, there's a part of the media that says this kid will never play,
01:59and there's another part that says this kid should have every opportunity to play.
02:03Me, I think he should play.
02:05I believe in redemption.
02:07I believe in rehabilitation.
02:09I believe that the kids should have an opportunity to play.
02:12We're talking about over $100,000 in bets,
02:15which, by the way, is now legal in this country,
02:18and I do think the kids should get a chance to play.
02:21However, got to say it again.
02:23There is going to be a lot of pushback.
02:26Where's the NFL Players Association going to fall?
02:28Are you going to support the kid?
02:30Are you going to back him?
02:31Once he gets drafted into the supplemental draft,
02:34this is going to be a story that is going to be must-watch and must-see.
02:38Look, I don't think he's going to have any playing time in the 2026 NFL season,
02:44and I think rightfully so.
02:46Take it from somebody that went into the supplemental draft.
02:48Look, folks, that is not the way to go into the league.
02:51You've already missed a ton of OTAs.
02:54You've missed mandatory minicamp.
02:55You're behind.
02:57I never got caught up.
02:58I was never able to catch up when I got drafted into the supplemental draft in 1987.
03:04I even sued the league, and it took forever for me to catch up,
03:09and quite frankly, I don't believe I ever did catch up,
03:11because in the blink of an eye, your NFL career could be over.
03:16And make no mistake about it, going into the supplemental draft,
03:19you have a ton of obstacles and a ton of speed bumps for you to try to overcome.
03:24To see him try to get on the football field is going to be something to watch.
03:29Also, I would, if I were some of these teams that are quarterback hungry,
03:34I would draft a kid.
03:35You mean to tell me I give up a fourth-round pick in the following draft next year in 2027
03:41for a potential first-round kid?
03:43Look, if the guy was going to go into the past April draft,
03:47he'd have been a first-round draft choice.
03:49He is a first-round talent with not very good character right now,
03:54and National Football League teams have to come to grips and say,
03:58is this someone that can help me?
04:00I think half the league will be in a conversation for those guys to sit
04:05and make that selection here when it comes,
04:08the date that will be set for the supplemental draft.
04:11I hope the kid gets an opportunity to play.
