00:00The following is brought to you by L'Oreal, Maybelline, and Garnier.
00:11From the 868 to the 876, Richard Nowell is taking Trinidad and Tobago to the Jamaica Fashion Week,
00:19the newest platform showcasing Caribbean designs and designers to the world.
00:25So Jamaica Fashion Week, tell me about the significance of such a platform for Caribbean designers.
00:31I think it's incredible for designers to have international and regional opportunities
00:35just because when we do fashion shows here, we partake in fashion shows here,
00:39we're more or less catering for the market that is here in Trinidad and Tobago.
00:43So when you go outside of Trinidad and Tobago, you get that exposure for the Caribbean and the world
00:49to see who you are, to see where you come from.
00:51And I think it's important that Trinidadians support these type of opportunities and their people
00:56because we are not going there just to represent, I'm not going to Jamaica just to represent me, Richard Nowell.
01:01I'm going to Jamaica to represent the brand and my country, Trinidad and Tobago.
01:06Caribbean Fashion Week was held in Jamaica and since the pandemic, we didn't have such an opportunity.
01:11So being able to now head to Jamaica and to be at the first ever Jamaica Fashion Week
01:16through the Jamaican Fashion Council, I think it's really important to see where fashion is going.
01:22So I was one of three local designers from Trinidad and Tobago to participate in Mission Catwalk,
01:28a reality TV show similar to that of Project Runway held in Jamaica.
01:32And from that experience, when they launched Jamaica Fashion Week,
01:37I got an email asking if I wanted to be part of this experience.
01:39And what is the name of the collection that they'll be taking?
01:43So it was supposed to be called Souvenir Applier because I came up with the collection while it's Aggie Beach
01:51and I saw the waves coming in and just how you look out, you see that different shades of blue
01:57and as the waves come in, it all turns to white.
02:00So I saw that and I was like, this is a perfect inspiration for the collection.
02:05So what you're going to see in Jamaica is a reflection of what I saw at the Toko Beach in
02:11Trinidad and Tobago.
02:12The true essence behind the Richard Nommel brand is styling and versatility.
02:18So this piece from our recent collection is called the Manzan Midi
02:22and I'm going to show you how I style it up.
02:26I consider this a style up, to be very honest.
02:28So we have Justine wearing the Manzan Mini Dress with our high-tide palazzo.
02:34So all I did was tuck the dress into the waist of the pants to create this voluminous moment that's
02:41happening here.
02:41The pants is pretty wide.
02:43If you could just spread for them to see.
02:46And it gives proportions.
02:49So it gives some drama here and then she has the long, flowy pants at the bottom.
02:53Style to perfection.
02:54Justine shows her accessories.
02:55I think she did an excellent job.
02:57And she's looking quite fashionable, if I must say.
03:00Yeah?
03:01And so you can wear the dress on its own.
03:03You can wear the dress with probably a different color pants.
03:05You can wear the pants with a different color top.
03:07You could probably tuck the entire dress into the pants and have a crop top and a long pants.
03:12That's how versatile our pieces are.
03:14Would you say the brand is all-inclusive?
03:16It definitely is.
03:17So one of our pieces that you will see here is engineered to fit size 2 to 6.
03:22How important would you say that is for fashion to have those kinds of offerings?
03:27I think it's extremely important because a lot of people feel like fashion is limited to one particular style because
03:32of what you see on the runway.
03:34But it's not the case because we don't always have fashion models coming into the stores.
03:39Right?
03:39So I think it's important that we cater to the everyday woman or we like to say the Caribbean woman
03:44because you don't see the Caribbean woman or the size represented that much on international runways.
03:51So I think as a fashion designer, I want to highlight those women through my designs.
03:55And I feel like we need to really understand that while you want to highlight the women, you also want
04:01to highlight men.
04:02And you want to give them the same opportunities that you would give to female models or you would give
04:06to females.
04:07And so that is the essence of what the Muse Initiative is, providing opportunities for everybody across the port without
04:14discrimination.
04:15There's a secret in my bag that I can't really stress yet, but I'm definitely taking one particular model we
04:20need to Jamaica.
04:22When I'm able to announce why I'm doing that, I would share it.
04:26Tell me about Posh Collections, is it?
04:29Because this is a space for exactly what you're speaking of.
04:32Posh Collections is my home, away from home.
04:34I come here like I live here.
04:36I think it's important to also have spaces where local fashion is highlighted.
04:42In the store, you see a bunch of local designers that a lot of people may not even know are
04:47local fashion.
04:48Because sometimes I'm here, you know, sorting out my rack and some people walk in and they're so amazed at
04:54what they're seeing.
04:55And when you tell them it's local fashion, they can't believe it.
04:58Because a lot of people don't know that we have such an industry in Trinidad.
05:03All right, Mr. Noel, well, thank you so much and keep up the great work.
05:08Another young local fashion designer making a name for TNT in the regional and global space.
05:15My name is Vanessa Cutting and this was Street Style.
05:18We'll see you again next week, Thursday.
05:26The preceding was brought to you by L'Oreal, Maybelline and Garnier.
05:31Bye bye.
05:31Bye bye.
05:32Bye bye....
