00:00After the UE Games 2019 came the 2020 pandemic, putting a damper on the sporting event.
00:06It's 2026 and the Games are back on track to take off from May 21st to the 29th
00:12under the theme Reunited, Reignited, Ready.
00:15The Five Islands campus in Antigua and Barbuda will join the other four,
00:19Mona Jamaica, Cave Hill Barbados, the Global Campus, and of course the hosts for the very first time.
00:25Principal of the St. Augustine campus, Professor Rosemary Bell Antwine is anticipating excitement
00:31with student spirit and Caribbean excellence on display.
00:36And what a celebration it will be.
00:39More than 575 athletes and officials, 300 volunteers, national athletes,
00:48our 17 contributing countries, 10 sporting disciplines, 5 landed campuses, 4 major venues,
00:59and one unforgettable week.
01:03Fostering confidence, pride, belonging, and possibility, Professor Antwine says,
01:09that's the power of sport.
01:11Even small islands like ours, with limited resources, can punch above our weight
01:19and compete with the very best the world has to offer.
01:24And not just compete, but excel, win.
01:29UE's Vice-Chancellor Sir Hilary Beckles calls the inter-campus games
01:34a heartbeat of the student experience.
01:36It's also a practical showing of what the university is offering
01:40under the Faculty of Sport developed a decade ago.
01:43And our faculty has enabled all of our athletes to not only practice
01:50their various disciplines, but to engage in study and research around sport
01:58and possibly to imagine a status as the professional athlete.
02:06The students and their coaches are in preparation mode
02:08as athletes are aiming to do their best under an atmosphere of friendly rivalry.
02:14Chair of the Organizing Committee, Professor Derek Chady,
02:17sees it as a broad area of foundation and self-building,
02:21spanning past skill and physical fitness.
02:24There's a quieter, less visible work.
02:27The development of concentration, adaptability, discipline, and resilience.
02:34That is where the real challenge I'm at.
02:38You can get in on the live action online as all events will be streamed on UETV.
