00:01A guy not named Wemby tonight for the San Antonio Spurs,
00:04who has to show up tonight for the Spurs not named Wemby?
00:10Well, the whole team has to show up.
00:12You don't win by one person.
00:13I mean, it takes more than one person to win a championship.
00:16You know, I mean, if Wemby's struggling, somebody else has to step up.
00:20But a lot of the guys have to.
00:22I mean, the guy that I keep mispronouncing his name all the time,
00:24and I apologize for it, it's kind of like the French name and everything.
00:27He's got to step up.
00:28Wemby's zero for seven from three-point range.
00:31And you just have to be smart.
00:32Here's the thing.
00:33If the three-point shot is not falling for you, okay, you have to do something.
00:39Go to the basket.
00:40Go get an offensive rebound.
00:42Get out on the break.
00:42Find another way to score so you maybe get to the free throw line.
00:45Make a couple of shots.
00:46And then, even if you're a percentage shooter from three-point range,
00:49you don't just quit.
00:51If you get a wide-open look and a good opportunity, you still take it.
00:55But you don't just keep jacking him up.
00:57If you jack him up and they're not wide-open good looks at the basket
01:01and early in the clock.
01:02So, you know, guys like that have to step up.
01:05But they all just have to play the way that they've been playing
01:09and just play more intelligently at the game when they get a lead.
01:14They just don't play smart when they get a lead.
01:16They do hurt themselves.
01:18They're their own worst enemy.
01:19It's probably the best way to describe it.
01:21But the Spurs are their own worst enemy.
01:24They play hard all the time.
01:27But they play into their hands.
01:28They didn't make hardly any turnovers in the first half to the second half.
01:32They might have done some turnovers.
01:33Throw them all the way.
01:34Guys aren't doing a lot of things that cause them all kinds of problems.
01:38And so, and that's the inexperience.
01:40These guys, you know, a lot of young guys on this team,
01:42it's remarkable that they've gotten to where they've gotten
01:45with so many young players.
01:46That's just rare for that to happen.
01:48And it's hurting them right now.
01:50That inexperience really is hurting them
01:52because some of the things that they're doing,
01:55two, three years from now,
01:56these same players would never be doing the same thing they're doing now
01:59because they will have learned what to do
02:02and how to play in these types of situations.
02:06Rick, you played in the era when the Knicks were great
02:09and they were winning those championships with Willis Reed.
02:13I can't believe the NBA, the ratings right now,
02:16is it really just New York and what's going on?
02:19Or is it the fabric of New York's team
02:22of why people are so identified with it
02:24and Jalen Brunson and Blue Collar and what have you?
02:27I mean, they really have really brought the fans back.
02:32Well, here's the situation.
02:35New York has always been a great professional sports city
02:38and they love their teams.
02:40And the people now, they've had a drought.
02:43I mean, they've waited so many decades
02:45to have a chance to have a championship team.
02:47So everybody's all propped up and happy for it.
02:50I don't think around the country that people are all excited.
02:52It's the Knicks that are there.
02:53There's also a lot of people very excited about the fact
02:55that it's Wemby who's the exciting guy
02:57and the San Antonio Spurs, nice young players.
03:01It's just that they are playing exciting games,
03:04even though a lot of the stuff is crazy that's going on.
03:07And that will draw you.
03:08Close games bring people in.
03:09The quality of the play could be horse manure,
03:12but if the game is close, fans are excited about it.
03:15Okay?
03:15And so the games have been incredibly exciting.
03:17What is it?
03:18Eight points difference in all of the games
03:19that they've had to determine who's winning or not.
03:21So I'm looking forward to tonight's game.
03:23Let's see if the Spurs learn a little bit of a lesson.
03:25I'm hoping that they win
03:26because I would love to see them go back to play
03:28the next game, game six of Madison Square Garden.
