00:00But De'Aaron Fox has become really a bit of an albatross for the Spurs
00:11in that De'Aaron Fox is still at times playing like he's the reigning
00:20clutch player of the year next to a bunch of rookies,
00:23and that's not really what's going on.
00:26De'Aaron Fox has largely been unclutched, inefficient,
00:32and not the guy who should have the ball down the stretch,
00:36and yet it keeps finding his hands.
00:39I understand there's a willingness that is necessary in moments like this,
00:43but Fox is far, far too willing down the stretch.
00:49So, Coach, I know you want to talk about his decision-making,
00:54but I do also want you to, after that, tell me if you really think Mitch Johnson
00:59would be crazy to put Dylan Harper in the starting lineup,
01:03and would you put him in the starting lineup for De'Aaron Fox?
01:08You know, it's amazing, Kevin.
01:10When they traded for De'Aaron Fox and you and I did the draft last year,
01:15we're like, there's nowhere to take in Dylan Harper.
01:17There you go, De'Aaron Fox.
01:19What do you need this kid for?
01:21So, they go and draft him.
01:23And Dylan Harper has been, in my eyes, the best guard on the San Antonio Spurs
01:31and, ready for this, the best player for the San Antonio Spurs in game number four.
01:38Okay.
01:39Took two shots in the fourth quarter.
01:41Two.
01:42One of them was a deep three.
01:44The other one is scoring the paint.
01:45So, when you look at De'Aaron Fox, you're saying to yourself,
01:49we got De'Aaron Fox because De'Aaron Fox is a veteran.
01:54De'Aaron Fox has seven career playoff games before this year.
01:59Seven.
01:59And you know what happened in game seven?
02:02Steph gave him 50 on his home floor.
02:05Thank you very much.
02:07And he was guarding Steph.
02:09So, you're sitting there telling me that you got the adult in the room?
02:13Do you know who the adult in the room is?
02:14It's Harrison Barnes, who does not play at all.
02:17Which is still, I find, to be like, when that lead was dwindling in the third,
02:22fourth quarter, and they were throwing out De'Aaron Fox out there,
02:26they should have put Harrison Barnes in there just to get an adult in the room.
02:29Just to get them to calm down and not take bad shot after bad shot.
02:33So, when you get to De'Aaron Fox, you know,
02:36the decision-making in regards to that lamp at the end.
02:41De'Aaron Fox is supposedly the fastest guy in the NBA,
02:45and he got chased out with a guy that pulled a hamstring three weeks ago.
02:50Three weeks ago, hold your hand and nobody pulled his hamstring.
02:52And he ran him down.
02:53I mean, he ran him down.
02:56Now, I also think this, Kev, the adult in the room, De'Aaron Fox,
03:02I think he was scared.
03:04I don't think he wanted to go to the foul end and shoot the free throws.
03:06He said, let me shoot this layup, let me get us up three.
03:10Instead of wheeling it out, getting fouled, and going to the foul end.
03:14Because you just saw Wimby miss two earlier.
03:17Can I just?
03:18I think that's interesting.
03:19I don't, I honestly, if that were true,
03:24I'd feel better about what happened, but I don't even think that's true.
03:27I actually think he tried to lean into OG and get contact,
03:30and that's what allowed OG to block the shot.
03:32I think he lost his mind.
03:33It was terrible.
03:34I think he lost his mind.
03:36But he did.
03:36Because if you're going to go into OG, Kev,
03:38you go in left, right, not off your left foot.
03:41You go up for two feet.
03:42You jump stop because you know that OG's going to go for the block.
03:45It was a disaster.
03:46It was a disaster.
03:47So let's get to, because I know we have to talk about the Knicks.
03:50Let's get to this part with De'Aaron Fox.
03:53I had Rick Kamla on my show, the coach's edge with JY yesterday.
03:57And he brought up something that I think Kev's going to agree with,
04:02and I'm going to agree with.
04:03I don't think a lot of people are actually going to disagree with us.
04:08I don't think he should start.
04:11I don't.
04:13I don't.
04:14And if he's going to start, he certainly as hell can't finish.
04:20Here's the other reason.
04:23That whole end of play with Brunson and NLB, that's De'Aaron Fox's fault.
04:29You know why, folks?
04:31Because when he came off of that, and he went to Wembe,
04:34and Wembe picked up Brunson,
04:36you figure Brunson would make try a walk down three, which he did,
04:41because Wembe's so tall, he's not going to take him to the basket.
04:45But De'Aaron Fox was not even near Brunson.
04:48That's a switch.
04:50Switch to OG.
04:52We all know the most dangerous guy on an out-of-bounds situation is
04:56the guy that takes it out.
04:59You watch Fox.
05:00He is in no-man's land.
05:02And by the time he turns, he knows he's screwed,
05:05and he doesn't even try to walk to try and get back into the play.
05:09He just turned and looked.
05:10When they ran past him, the Trayleys tried to get into the lane.
05:14De'Aaron Fox has been an absolute disaster for this team in big spots.
05:18He's a good player.
05:19I'm not knocking him as a player.
05:21He's a damn good player.
05:22For what this team needs right now and moving forward,
05:26they can't get this guy off the roster fast enough,
05:29and his extension starts next year.
05:32Adios
