00:00Hi there, and welcome to another episode of Trench Leadership, a podcast from the front.
00:05Before we begin, I'm humbled to be able to say that Trench Leadership, a podcast from
00:10the front, was listed as number eight in the top 20 for best Canadian leadership-themed
00:15podcasts in 2022.
00:17I can't thank all of my supporters and listeners enough as we've traveled along this wild
00:22ride.
00:23But stay tuned, because 2023 will have even more guests with rich and impactful stories,
00:29advice, and inspiration as we all continue to lead from the trenches.
00:33But for now, it's about this episode, so let's get to it.
00:38Fear is the most basic of human instincts.
00:41We need it to tell us when to be cognizant of impending danger, and there's a reason why
00:45there have been many episodes to talk about fear and the power and the dangers of it.
00:50The challenge with fear is that it can and wants to take over.
00:54Fear wants to keep us inside our comfort zones, keep us safe, secure in the knowledge that
00:59if we don't push ourselves, we can't get hurt.
01:02But for leaders, the question is, how can we harness this power of fear to not only survive,
01:08but to thrive?
01:09And so, in this episode, you'll hear from Richard Blank, CEO for Costa Rica's Call Center,
01:14who will talk about his experiences with fear in the workplace.
01:18Richard will use his personal and professional examples to talk about how emerging leaders can
01:22live with their fear. Use it to create strong and powerful teams.
01:27Lastly, Richard will give practical advice to leaders so they can use their fear to help
01:31themselves and their teams thrive.
01:33You know, as always, it's never about me. No one wants to hear from me.
01:37They want to hear from the guests. So I'm going to try and be quiet and introduce Richard.
01:41Hey, Richard, how's it going out there?
01:43Hey, Simon, I'm so happy to be with you and your audience today and got a lot of great ideas
01:48to share with you. And I believe that we're going to put fear to bed. It's something that
01:53I know we'll be able to take care of on this episode.
