00:02Thank you so much.
00:02Good luck.
00:03OK.

00:07OK.
00:07Time now for our second Olympian
00:09to take center stage.
00:10His name Kennedy McKinney as he
00:12goes against David Moreno.
00:14He's a gold medalist.
00:15McKinney is.
00:15So right now once again let's
00:16go to Tim Ryan.
00:17Tim.
00:17All right Jim.
00:18This is the bantamweight gold
00:20medalist at Seoul Korea from
00:22Memphis now living in Las Vegas.
00:24Kennedy McKinney three and oh
00:26and he'll take on David Moreno
00:27who has a record of 10 victories
00:29and three defeats with six
00:31knockouts David Moreno from
00:32Houston and here's a look at the
00:33tale of the tape.
00:34Moreno actually a year younger
00:35than McKinney and McKinney with
00:37the good height advantage.
00:39He is tall for his size.
00:40They both came in at 125 pounds
00:43in this six round featherweight
00:44bout.
00:46Same rules will apply here the
00:47Nevada rules and the referee is
00:50Davey Pearl tonight for this
00:52bout and let's take you to our
00:53ring announcer Michael Buffer.
00:56Ladies and gentlemen we go to
00:58six rounds in the featherweight
00:59division.
00:59The referee for this contest is
01:01Davey Pearl introducing first

01:06He's wearing the white trunks with
01:07blue trim and weighs an even
01:08125 pounds from Houston, Texas.
01:12An excellent professional record of
01:13ten and three six KOs introducing

01:23the red corner wearing the red
01:24trunks with silver traded.
01:26He also weighs an even 125 pounds
01:28originally from Memphis, Tennessee.
01:31Now residing in Las Vegas and
01:32fighting for the Las Vegas club
01:33stable undefeated as a professional
01:36with a record of three and oh two
01:38by knockout victory.
01:39Ladies and gentlemen gold medal
01:41champion Kennedy McKinney, Kennedy McKinney.
01:48I guess I said he was tall for his
01:49size, Clancy, which you picked up
01:50on.
01:51Obviously, I mean, he's a tall
01:52featherweight.
01:53My point, it is a nice height
01:54advantage for him.
01:56Final instructions from Davey Pearl.
01:58Shake hands down.
01:59Good luck.
02:00Judges are Chuck Giampa, Bill
02:01Graham and Paul Smith all from
02:03Las Vegas.
02:04McKinney three and oh with two
02:05knockouts.
02:06David Moreno, as we said, ten and
02:07three with six KOs and he was a
02:09good amateur as well.
02:10David Moreno, a twenty five and
02:12two record silver medalist in the
02:14summer on a victory loss to a
02:16U.S. Olympian Kelsey Banks.
02:18He is from Houston, Texas, trained
02:20by Joe Moreno.
02:23There's been eight rounds twice in
02:25his young career.
02:27Lost his last outing over eight to
02:29Mark Brooks.
02:30This is the first six round fight
02:32for Kennedy McKinney in the red
02:34trunks.
02:35Tim, I noticed that McKinney
02:36don't have that much sweat on
02:37him when he came into the rain.
02:41They should get it pretty quickly
02:43here in this hundred and twenty
02:44degree heat.
02:45Well, he might be able to fight
02:46Cabo in this heat.
02:50Now lives in Las Vegas.
02:52Managed by a consortium here that
02:54includes a UNLV Rebels coach.
02:58Gary Tarkanian.
02:59I love this way this Marino's
03:01coming right to work.
03:01He's coming right out right to
03:03work.
03:03He's not playing around at all.
03:05Rob, we've watched the Kennedy
03:07McKinney in the gymnasium.
03:08Once he gets here on the end of
03:10the punch the way he did then
03:11he'll come back and hit you with
03:12three or four more.
03:13Very, very accurate hands.
03:15He looks like he's got good
03:17defense too.
03:18I'll see him notice it.
03:21He's not giving him a chance to
03:22get away from anything.
03:24McKinney had 270 amateur fights.
03:27Very experienced young boxer.
03:29Twenty-three years of age.
03:30Over the next two years of the
03:32Ready by his Olympic coach.
03:34Ken Adams.
03:35You wonder how much these guys
03:36when they have all them in the
03:37amateur fights how well they do
03:38if they don't get burnt out of the
03:40probe.
03:42Well, I never believed in keeping a guy in the amateurs too long.
03:46Marv, 270 fights.
03:47There's a lot of fights as an amateur.
03:49Exactly.
03:51He lost only 10 of those.
03:53He knows what victory is about.
03:56Well, the feelings that this Marino now realizes that he's in a fight here.
04:00Marv, you'll notice once in a while that Kennedy McKinney pulls his right shoulder back
04:04and almost switches to his southpaw.
04:06But look at the way those hands are so active.
04:08Good combination.
04:09He's kept Marino on the end of all his punches.
04:11Big, long.
04:12He's got long reach.
04:13Well, that's what he does well.
04:14I just don't like the fact with McKinney that he pulls that left shoulder back the way he's
04:18doing now and he's susceptible to right hands.
04:21What I like about what McKinney's doing, he looks very calm and patient.
04:25That's those 270 amateur fights.
04:28He's been around.
04:30With that many fights, you've got to be fighting almost every day.
04:33Under a minute to go and round number one scheduled for six.
04:36See the way those hands move?
04:39Very, very accurate hands.
04:41What I like is that he's catching them on the long end of his punches.
04:44Right on the end of the punch.
04:49Right hand scored by Moreno.
04:51Under 30 seconds we go.
04:53I wonder what would happen if McKinney decided on just stepping in with those punches instead
04:57of just...
04:57Watching him in at Jimmy doesn't do it, Marv.
04:59A lot of his punches are all punches.
05:01Very stiff and very accurate, but he's very seldom pivots on the punch.
05:04Another right hand landed by Moreno.
05:06Well, we noticed that in the gym, Tim.
05:10Jim Tim.
05:11That's what's going to be.
05:13I see Moreno backing up a little bit now, and that's going to be a bad sign right there.
05:18He's not coming forward like he did in the first beginning.
05:21At the end of round number one, following Kennedy McKinney into the corner, met there by Percy Richardson, Ken Adams.
05:31How you feel?
05:32Pretty good.
05:33Hey, gents.
05:39What'd you say?
05:45You got to turn your right hand on there and back with the hook, okay?
05:50Right hand on there and up with the hook, okay?
05:52You with me?
05:52Right hand on there.
05:53Right hand on the back with the hook.
05:55But the right hand is there.
05:57That's Kenny Adams.
05:59Back into the first round action.
06:01There's that solid left from McKinney.
06:07Then he slips that straight right hand.
06:09And bang, right on the end of that punch.
06:13That was a great move.
06:15You can see Moreno buckled a little bit from that.
06:17Talking to young David Moreno this morning, he said, you know, how do you like being an opponent?
06:21All these Olympians getting the publicity in the press conference here in Las Vegas.
06:24And he said, well, I see it as a chance to prove that I'm a better pro than McKinney's going
06:29to be,
06:29and I'm not there to win tonight.
06:31I'm not here to be an opponent.
06:32He's had 13 pro fights and 110 of them.
06:35Well, his manager is Richard Discusi, and if he's anything like his father, he's a good manager.
06:39Because Lou Viscuzzi was a legend as a fight manager, and one of his fighters was the great Willie Pepp.
06:45I think that McKinney's mouth is bleeding right now.
06:47I think Memorial hit him with a good stiff jab when he first came out in this round.
06:53When he's going forward, Memorial, he looks a lot better.
06:57When he starts backing up, that's when he gets in trouble.
06:59But McKinney just takes advantage of him with a long reach.
07:01There is a little blood from the mouth of Kennedy McKinney.
07:04Marvin and David Moreno trying to take advantage of it.
07:10There's a good, solid jab.
07:11Nice, McKinney.
07:13The difference in the fight is the flurries by McKinney.
07:16When he hits you with one flea, he'll come back with two or three more at the moment.
07:20He's using that jab effectively now.
07:22If he can keep that snap on that jab, he can just use the jab all night and beat him.
07:31Nice.
07:32That's those accurate, accurate hands.
07:35Combination inside for McKinney scoring.
07:39He was the bantamweight champion in Seoul, but now a featherweight of four pounds.
07:49Well, you know, automatically, he's used to fighting guys at this caliber.
07:52You can tell that.
07:56Looking very poised and confident.
07:58He just is fourth professional bout and first at six rounds.
08:01I think McKinney should go right back to that jab.
08:03Leave with the jab and that'll set up anything else he wants to throw.
08:05Big right hand by Moreno.
08:07And there's a scrolling under the left eye of McKinney from those right hands by Moreno.
08:12And another right.
08:13Yep.
08:14Moreno starting to score here.
08:15A good combination.
08:16Another right hand by Moreno.
08:18Now, McKinney comes back with a right of his own, but Moreno picking up his tempo.
08:22Under a minute to go in the second round.
08:25That's how Moreno does very well when he comes forward.
08:27When he stands back, that's when he gets in trouble.
08:30He has to work that right hand all the time, Mark.
08:39Moreno said he didn't want to be just the opponent here.
08:41He's looking for a chance to show what he can do.
08:44When he stays down low, Moreno, he does real well also.
08:46He should keep the head down and try to punch more to the body than fool him with something over
08:51top.
08:51Take a look at that.
08:53Kennedy McKinney, when he pulls that left shoulder back, Mark, he almost switches to southpaw.
08:57And he leaves a wide open for the right hand.
08:59Exactly.
09:00If Moreno pushes him, he can fall down.
09:03Yeah, but he's got, he looks like he's ready to shoot the right hand is why he's leaning in.
09:11This is where McKinney gets in trouble because he comes up.
09:15When he's down there, he brings his head back up.
09:17Final seconds of round number two.
09:19And David Moreno doing a good job in that second round.
09:24Certainly had the more effective punches, although the judges may see more scoring punches from McKinney over the round.
09:29Let's go into McKinney's corner, the Olympic gold medalist, and have a little better look as Percy Richardson.
09:34Let him go.
09:35You're not letting your hands go.
09:36Don't sit back and hold him.
09:38You understand, man?
09:39Get him.
09:39Get him.
09:40Get him.
09:41Percy Richardson using the inswell, that refrigerated piece of metal air to get the swelling down.
09:47And you can hear Ken Adams with the instructions.
09:50Pop right hand.
09:51Come, also, turn your now, folks, and the right hand under, okay?
09:54Okay.
09:54Come on, you've got to put more.
09:55You're not stepping.
09:56Jerry Tarkanian, coach of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, running Rebels basketball team.
10:02And as we said, he has an interest in Kennedy McKinney.
10:05It must be a big thrill for him to see his young man working here tonight on this big fight
10:11card,
10:11which will feature Leonard Hearns to the war, coming up later.
10:14And our telecast being seen around the world.
10:17Tim Ryan with Gil Clancy, marvelous Marvin Hagler at ringside, Jim Hill and Al Bernstein.
10:24The rest of our broadcast crew with lots of activity still ahead.
10:29Round number three.
10:31I scored that round for Moreno.
10:34I did too, also.
10:34So, Kennedy McKinney has himself in there with the young man who has something to prove and showed what in
10:42round two.
10:43You know, he's got to constantly keep coming, this Moreno.
10:46When he comes at him, he looks a lot better when he starts off fast in the beginning of the
10:49round with the body shots.
10:51And he gets relaxed out there, and that's when he gets in trouble.
10:55And, Marv, if I was McKinney, I'd do just exactly what you said he should do.
11:00Win the rounds with the left jab.
11:02Just the jab.
11:02The other punchers will come all by themselves.
11:04Exactly.
11:04See, that's how he gets himself in trouble.
11:06There was Moreno with a good right hand.
11:07And that backed McKinney up.
11:09Exactly.
11:10He knew he got hit with that punch.
11:11He knew he did.
11:11He's moving a little bit more now.
11:14He realized this Moreno wants to win.
11:17That's a mark of a good fighter.
11:22See, Marv, the way he just about faces the guy.
11:24He's coming right at him now.
11:25Moreno's coming right at him, and that's when he's more effective.
11:32If I was McKinney, I would be using that jab.
11:35Jab and side to side.
11:36That's it.
11:37Just boxing jab.
11:38Good right landed by McKinney.
11:40And another combination, starting to target his punches a little more.
11:44Did you notice that that was a right hand by McKinney first and then a left jab?
11:49That's right, it was.
11:50He just scored another right.
11:51And leads again with the right.
11:56This is what I was telling you, when he's in the inside, McKinney comes back up.
12:00He's got a bad habit of that.
12:01He picks his head back up.
12:03You know, Carvajal said he liked the slow pace of the pros a little better.
12:06This is like an amateur fight, the way these guys have fallen punches.
12:11McKinney landed another combination.
12:13He should have took advantage of that.
12:14He will catch that.
12:19Moreno having some problems with the McKinney jab now.
12:23Well, when he's getting caught with unnecessary punches, you know, McKinney should box more,
12:27like I said, and use the jab.
12:28Three more scoring punches from McKinney.
12:31You can just see that Moreno was so determined to him.
12:35He hasn't backed up, that's for sure.
12:37He's in trouble when he's backed up.
12:39Like right here, he's standing still.
12:40Another combination by McKinney.
12:43That's those hands of gold we were talking about the McKinney has.
12:45He can really put them together.
12:47He's got that reach.
12:48He's got a long reach.
12:52Featherweight, as you know, throw many punches.
12:55Under 30 seconds.
12:58You wonder how this heat has affected him at all.
13:01You wonder.
13:01I think Moreno probably more used to the heat than McKinney is.
13:05Went to the body for the first time, now back up to the head and backing Moreno toward the road.
13:10But look at Moreno, fire back.
13:11McKinney, he feels that too.
13:13Well, he knows he should have been back.
13:14He's coming back in.
13:16I think they're taking shot for shot.
13:19With a big round for Kennedy McKinney here in the third.
13:23Scheduled for six.
13:25Kennedy McKinney rallying from the tide, having turned to Moreno's favor in round two.
13:30Come on, this is there.
13:31Let your punches go.
13:32Let your punches go.
13:34You understand me?
13:35You understand me?
13:37Are you with me?
13:38Are you with me?
13:39Let him go.
13:41You're pushing him.
13:42Snap him.
13:44Snap the punches.
13:45Well, you can see McKinney a lot busier as we look at the ashton tape punch stat here.
13:50155 jabs thrown through the three rounds.
13:53And I venture to say a lot of those that scored occurred in round three, whereas he saw the percentage
13:59not that high.
14:00That's because he missed a lot of them in the first couple of rounds.
14:03David Moreno, on the other hand, 29 for 112, 26 percent effectiveness in his jab.
14:10His best punch so far has been the right hand.
14:14Did cause some swelling under the left eye of Kennedy McKinney in round two.
14:23Round number four.
14:25Scheduled for six.
14:26Featherweights.
14:26Kennedy McKinney, the Olympic gold medalist at the Bantamweight in Seoul, Korea.
14:31Three and 0, and David Moreno, a 10 and 3 mark, a young pro from Houston, Texas.
14:51That's what McKinney should be doing.
14:52Just using the jab and moving.
14:54Just keep him out there.
14:55Right now, the big difference is the accuracy of McKinney's punches.
14:59He lands such a high percentage of punches.
15:02You think that cut over McKinney's eye is an old cut.
15:07That's another thing.
15:08We've talked about staying too long with the amateurs.
15:10The way a lot of these Cubans did.
15:11270 fights, they wind up with scar tissue.
15:13When they turn throw, they're not as susceptible to cut.
15:18We should point out there's no bleeding from that.
15:20You're simply seeing a scar tissue from an old one, are you, Marvin?
15:23Yes, that's what I'm looking at.
15:24It looks like an angry red to the wealth underneath the eye.
15:26Right.
15:27Richardson's been working on it.
15:28Moreno just caught away with a nice right hook.
15:31Nice right hand.
15:31And a left behind it inside.
15:33No question, Moreno, once he gets in close, he's been effective in there.
15:37Another right lander.
15:38He's starting to back up out of there now, Tom.
15:40That's right.
15:44He's got to put the pressure on him.
15:45He's got to put the pressure on McKinney.
15:47He's got to throw punches.
15:48Keep him busy.
15:49This is a great experience for McKinney because if he can go six now to this, he'll be able
15:53to go ten on normal conditions.
15:56Good right hand by McKinney.
15:58Snap back the head of Moreno.
16:02Board right inside.
16:04Slips the chin of Moreno.
16:06I think if I can sit here and stand this 120 degrees, I think I can stand anything.
16:10What was the hottest that you remember out here in Las Vegas for you?
16:15Oh, I think somewhere about the hundred and five, maybe.
16:18Nice combination by McKinney inside.
16:21Under a minute to go.
16:23Round number four.
16:25You know, Marvin, I remember you fighting here in Las Vegas and it was freezing.
16:28The steam.
16:28I like the cold.
16:29The steam was coming off your head.
16:30I like the cold on the rain on the Mugabe fire.
16:35A little blood from the nose of David Moreno now and a good combination scored by McKinney.
16:40And another.
16:41That's because he's backing up against him.
16:44Moreno backing up and getting himself into trouble on the end of those punches of the
16:49right hand by McKinney that staggered Moreno a lot longer on McKinney.
16:50Moreno doesn't have the hand speed or the skills of McKinney.
16:53He's in there strictly on determination.
16:56Right hand snaps back the head again of Moreno.
16:58I see McKinney dropping that left hand a lot.
17:01See the left hand down there?
17:03But now it's turned into target practice here.
17:06Moreno backing up a little wobbly.
17:08McKinney after him in the fourth round.
17:10A right hand by McKinney.
17:12That staggered Moreno.
17:13He's in trouble.
17:14That was a nice one.
17:16Combination.
17:16That was three-punch combination.
17:18Now he's punching it to the body to go back up to the head.
17:21I think McKinney felt something that way.
17:24Big round for Kennedy McKinney.
17:29Scheduled for six and David Moreno back to his corner but in some trouble now as he's met there by
17:35his dad Joe Moreno and trainer Bill Benton.
17:38You got the spare.
17:38Here it is.
17:46A very game guy David Moreno said he wanted to prove that he can fight with these guys.
17:52Let's listen.
17:52You understand?
17:53You have to take this round.
17:56Back in round number four.
17:58We'll see that right hand from Kennedy McKinney.
18:01And there's McKinney with his hand behind Moreno's neck.
18:04Maybe an amateur but he got some pro tricks.
18:07There's that left hook.
18:09And look at the accuracy of his hands.
18:12There he's pulling him.
18:13Pulling him forward with that left hand.
18:14Keep breathing.
18:15Let's go.
18:16Let's go.
18:16Let's go.
18:16Let's go.
18:17Keep breath.
18:17Come on.
18:18Some of the tricks of the pros and only his fourth fight for the Olympic champion.
18:22Kennedy McKinney in red.
18:23David Moreno in white and proud starting to really fill up the seats here at Caesar Palace.
18:29There will be 15,300 capacity by the time the main eventers arrive.
18:34In fact, we're all before that, I am sure.
18:36As we have Andrew Maynard and Ray Mercer still ahead.
18:39Two American Olympic gold medalists and Robert Guangila from Kenya.
18:44Also another Olympic gold medal winner.
18:46Tell my feelings, though, that if McKinney hits Moreno with another good right hand,
18:52it's going to be the end of this fight.
18:53One or two good solid punches is all they'll take right now.
18:56That's all.
18:57Don't waste your energy.
18:58Don't waste your energy.
19:00How effortfully McKinney just drops that right hand in there.
19:03Just slayed as an arrow.
19:05But he's dropping his left, though.
19:07That's a bad habit.
19:08Well, that's what we noticed in the gym, Mark, that he can be hit with right hands.
19:11They're going to have to work on that.
19:13See it there?
19:15Pulls it and drops it.
19:18That's what I'm talking about.
19:20Those hands are so quick.
19:21So much quicker and more accurate than Moreno's.
19:37Round number five, scheduled for six, this featherweight bout.
19:40Let's see how McKinney gets in trouble here now.
19:42He did take that left hand drop, and he's vulnerable for that right.
19:46See that overhand right?
19:47Left hand drops, and he pulls his left shoulder back.
19:49Faces the guy.
19:51Leaves himself wide open.
19:53There's a left, scored by Moreno.
19:56But right back comes McKinney with a combination.
19:58Three punches.
19:59Look at him dropping that hand.
20:00It makes me nervous.
20:01It makes me nervous.
20:02I promise you that Moreno won't hit you.
20:05Don't be nervous.
20:09Little blood again from the nose of McKinney.
20:11More damage has been done to David Moreno.
20:15This point.
20:15This right hand ball, McKinney, just done.
20:17Right hand on the left hand on the hook back.
20:19Let's go.
20:20Get in there.
20:22There are a minute to go in the fifth round.
20:25You know what I feel that is bad when the corner man is in there.
20:29Good combination.
20:30He's got him in trouble again.
20:31Moreno, a little unsteady on his legs, but gainly hanging in.
20:37As I was saying, Tom, where the corner is yelling, you can hear his corner yelling in,
20:41almost telling your opponent what to do, what you're going to be throwing.
20:45So you wouldn't advise that.
20:47It's supposed to be illegal anyway.
20:48It was supposed to be.
20:50Too much excitement out there.
20:54In the 30 seconds we go on round number five.
20:57Now I think this fight would be over, except for the heat.
21:00I think that McKinney's had to pace himself a little bit.
21:02If he put the pressure on Moreno now, this fight would be over.
21:11Mark, why are you pulling out?
21:13There's a right hand.
21:15You can hear his corner telling him, why is he pulling out of there?
21:19They want him to put the pressure on him now.
21:21He'll shoot the right hand.
21:22In the round number five, Kennedy McKinney and David Moreno.
21:27Well, McKinney's not breathing at all.
21:30Well, I hope he's breathing some, Marvin, but he doesn't look to be in a whole lot of difficulty,
21:37but he has taken some punishment from David Moreno.
21:42Well, still to come, more Olympics.
21:44And then the main event, Thomas Hearns arrived in his dressing room
21:48and just getting himself organized for the biggest night of his boxing life.
21:53The rematch he's waited for for nearly eight years.
21:56It'll be for the WBC Super Middleweight Championship against Sugar Ray Leonard.
22:03Thomas Hearns got himself in outstanding physical condition for this battle.
22:08Although, as we commented near the top, going back looking at Kennedy McKinney at work,
22:12there's some question about whether Hearns may have worked a little too hard to get down to the
22:16self-imposed or at least agreed upon unofficial limit of 164 pounds
22:23rather than the 168 mandated by the WBC Super Middleweight Division.
22:29And actually, it was 163 and a half, and he came in 162 and a half, one pound under the
22:34agreed
22:36for the stipulation in the contract.
22:38So, it didn't cost him any extra money, but whether it hurt him in any other way, we'll find out
22:43later.
22:43He's still in the middle of the year.
22:43He's still in the middle of the year.
22:44Meanwhile, round six, the final round here is Kennedy McKinney against David Moreno,
22:52fighting a very game young man from Houston, Texas.
22:56We have McKinney comfortably ahead giving the second round only to Moreno.
23:00You mentioned that McKinney wasn't breathing at all.
23:03He is breathing.
23:04He's breathing pretty heavily right now.
23:06His mouth is open.
23:08But he's pacing himself very, very well.
23:10He came back to the corner.
23:11He didn't look like he was doing much of anything.
23:13Short chopping right landed by Moreno.
23:16He realized the heat factor here.
23:18But McKinney continues to fire scoring combinations.
23:23This was the first time I seen McKinney get underneath a nice left hook by fighting inside.
23:28He doesn't bend too much, Mark.
23:30In the gym, they were trying to tell him to bend his knees, but he's a straight-up fighter.
23:35Take it away!
23:35Take it away!
23:37Take it away!
23:39Take it away!
23:39Take it away!
23:39Come on!
23:40Take it away!
23:40Moreno would have to score a knockout to win this fight.
23:43He sure would.
23:44And he's been taking the punishment here in round six.
23:50Left or the right for McKinney.
23:52You notice there's no pivot on those punches, Mark.
23:54He threw that right hand, landed right on the butt.
23:56Yeah, but you see the back-handed that he threw on the left jab.
24:02Well, he apologized for it, though.
24:03Yeah.
24:06It's illegal.
24:08Get it up, Mark!
24:10Let's go!
24:10Let's go!
24:12I think his corner wants him to work a little harder than in this fight.
24:16Well, I think he just proves in now, Mark.
24:19No sense, uh, doing any...
24:22Any foot in next time.
24:23Right.
24:24Under a minute to go in the fight.
24:26McKinney with two knockouts and his three professional starts.
24:30There's a good short combination for McKinney.
24:32See the way that right hand just popped out?
24:34It's almost like a jab.
24:35And I like the way how he's just basically relaxed with it.
24:37Oh, he...
24:38Punches this throat.
24:39Oh, he flew.
24:41And McKinney used that long reach.
24:43He backs up, but you see that he attack you with it.
24:46He reaches you.
24:47Is this a championship prospect you're looking at, Marvin Hagler?
24:50It looks like it, you know?
24:52But, uh, they gotta take him along real slow, though.
24:55Kennedy McKinney.
24:56The Olympic gold medalist.
24:59The red trunks apparently on his way to his fourth pro victory without a loss.
25:04And one big punch from David Moreno.
25:07He's just, like, hitting a big bag right now.
25:09Yeah.
25:11Nice belly shot.
25:12Nice belly shot.
25:13Final seconds.
25:15The sixth round featherweight bout.
25:21He's dropping that left hand though.
25:23Good fight.
25:27There's Kennedy McKinney.
25:29And I think confident a victory.
25:31Our car would show him a handy winner over David Moreno.
25:34A game young pro from Houston, Texas.
25:37Just outgunned in terms of quantity.
25:39And you may see that on the Ashton Tate punch stat because
25:42Kennedy McKinney certainly was the busier of the two over the six rounds.
25:47David Moreno got his attention around, too.
25:50But McKinney kind of took things away.
25:53Through the remaining four rounds of this featherweight bout.
25:56And you can see that folks have filled up the stadium here at Caesars Palace.
26:03Bob, let's take a look at that Ashton Tate punch that McKinney landed 227 punches.
26:09A 33% average.
26:11Moreno only 134.
26:13I didn't think he landed that many.
26:15No, it didn't.
26:15With a 23% average.
26:17But, again.
26:18The punches thrown in there.
26:20Moreno did land a couple of hard punches.
26:22But I don't think he landed 134.
26:24It didn't look like that many.
26:26You know, but.
26:28It was a very good fight, though.
26:29You have to give it credit.
26:30Plus, especially, I give both guys credit by fighting in this type of heat.
26:34That's what I think if McKinney could go six rounds under these conditions, they could put him in an eight
26:38-round fight and not worry about him getting tired.
26:43Let's.
26:44Now, let's go up to the ring to Michael Buffer for the decision.
26:59Ladies and gentlemen, here's the official score.
27:02And Chuck Chappell scores about 16-54.
27:04Bill Graham has it 59-55.
27:06And Paul Smith scores it 16-54 for the winner by unanimous decision.
27:13Still undefeated.
27:16Kennedy McKinney.
27:20A round of applause for a very tough.
27:23David Beringo, ladies and gentlemen.
27:27Kennedy McKinney winning his fourth professional bout against no defeats.
27:31And, uh, Kennedy, uh, a tough young guy.
27:34Uh, I, are you pleased with your performance?
27:36Uh, you seem to get a lot of good work in.
27:38Well, no, I'm not really pleased because McCormick is not pleased with my performance.
27:40So, I just got to go back to the gym and work a little harder.
27:43He was a tough guy and he took a lot of good shots.
27:46Yes, he did.
27:46And, but he got your attention in round two as well.
27:49Well, yeah, he hit me with a, with two or three punches.
27:51But I kept my cool, you know, and I kept my hands up.
27:53I knew exactly what to do when I was.
27:55He didn't hurt, sting me.
27:56He didn't really hurt me.
27:57But I felt the punch.
27:58Well, you're undefeated as a pro and certainly every one of these, uh, fights in your first six-rounder.
28:03Uh, it's good experience for you.
28:05And Marvin Hagler is impressed with what he saw.
28:06And I think everybody expecting you're gonna be a fine pro.
28:09You know, I said hi to everybody at home.
28:11My mom, my family didn't make it out.
28:14I'm a winner.
28:15I'm going all the way.
28:16All right.
28:16Kennedy McKinney winning his fifth professional bout against no defeats.
28:20And now let's return you once again to Jim Hill.
28:23Okay, Tim, thank you so very much.
28:25So our Olympians right now are 2-0 on the evening and they hope to remain undefeated.
