A report has surfaced talking about the three teams Dylan Larkin would like to be traded too, but, is it realistic?
Transcript
00:00Oh, we'll get to Soresby this morning and the Larkin three team list.
00:05Good morning, 97.1 Jim Costa, John Jansen, Heather Park, Gov and Greg behind the glass.
00:10But just a second, because I was just stopped in my tracks by something in the update.
00:15The whole Tigers haven't beat anybody but Kansas City, the team that they're fighting to stay out of last place
00:20with.
00:21He said it, and I had to double check him on it, but he's right.
00:25The only team in the division the Tigers have beaten this season is Kansas City.
00:29Yep.
00:310-3 against the White Sox, 0-4 against the Guardians, 0-4 against the Twins.
00:36Yep, swept every single time.
00:39That's why I think if we're sitting there going, is this six-game stretch for real,
00:48then you've got to be able to do it against the division opponents.
00:51The Twins and the Guardians coming up, and Twins are home, Guardians on the road.
00:55Six games, very important six games at this point of the season.
01:02Twins, Guardians, and White Sox, three of the next four series.
01:06The Tigers are a combined 0-10 in games against those teams this season.
01:11Sorry, I know that's not what we were playing and starting to show it.
01:13I was floored hearing that.
01:16Yeah, I mean, if this is real, then we'll find out.
01:22Guardians lost last night.
01:23It's down to nine games.
01:24I know.
01:24They gained a half a game yesterday.
01:26Didn't even play.
01:27Everything is going the Tigers' way.
01:29And the Tigers get the Yankees twice coming up pretty soon,
01:31and Judge will probably still be out.
01:33Just saying.
01:34Don't let the Tigers get hot.
01:36Like I said, everything's going.
01:37Greg is pointing to you, Tom.
01:38Are you the first to buy back in?
01:40Not in yet, no.
01:41We really need to have a barometer of this.
01:43Like, you say too many nice things, we're going to say you're back in.
01:48I need to see bullpen more.
01:50Okay.
01:50I need to see these six games.
01:52All right.
01:52Back at home tonight.
01:53Yeah.
01:54I need to see the bats be consistent now that we've analyzed a Tigers
02:00no-game day, and they gain a half game.
02:04Sorry.
02:05We'll also get into the NBA Finals.
02:06I know last night was a big potential swing game.
02:09You know how I feel about the series.
02:10We can get to that.
02:11But let's get to Larkin.
02:12All right.
02:13Broke at the end of our show yesterday.
02:15Dylan Larkin has a three-team list, places he's willing to go.
02:20They include Vegas, Florida, and Minnesota,
02:25all led by some Team USA teammates.
02:28Boy, that group chat is crazy.
02:31And two of them have won cups.
02:32The other is on the edge in Minnesota.
02:34Yep.
02:35And I would think, I don't know what the futures say for next year,
02:40the way too early who's going to be Stanley Cup favorites.
02:44But I guarantee you, in kind of any order,
02:49you're probably looking at one, two, and three.
02:51In terms of, you know, Minnesota's probably three.
02:55Florida, I know that they were, you know, not a great season this year,
02:58but banged up.
02:59And they're, you know, hey, still the reigning,
03:01two-time defending Stanley Cup chance.
03:03They don't have a chance to defend it.
03:05And Vegas may be this year's Stanley Cup champ.
03:09So we're going to go into next year,
03:11and in the top five teams favored to win the Stanley Cup,
03:17the arrogance of Dylan Larkin to say,
03:21these are the only three teams that you can trade me to.
03:24That says to me, well, maybe I just don't really want to be traded.
03:31I don't, honestly, I go back and forth as to who I'm more upset with,
03:37and with Dylan Larkin saying, these are the three teams,
03:42and I'm demanding a trade.
03:45I'm not a top five center.
03:47I'm not a top 10 center.
03:49But I'm demanding a trade because I want to go win a cup.
03:52It's not that I want to go to these 10 teams
03:55because these 10 teams are a better situation than I'm currently in.
04:01And if those are the only three teams,
04:05if Steve Iserman gets a call from whatever team four or five might be
04:10and says, this is the best for our organization,
04:13present it to Dylan Larkin, and he says, no, it's not in my top three,
04:16well, then it must not be so bad here.
04:19Interesting.
04:21In Larkin's defense, there is no defense.
04:25I'm sorry.
04:26You got to play ball.
04:28You just do.
04:29If you have three teams and none of them have much to offer Detroit,
04:33you got to understand, Steve Iserman is not obligated to give in
04:37and send you wherever you want.
04:39He has to be able to get a decent return for Detroit.
04:42Now, I'll contend it's going to be hard to get a fair return for Dylan Larkin,
04:45but you're not giving him much to work with here.
04:47There's very little leverage if you only provide three teams.
04:50This list has to be twice as long minimum.
04:52I mean, this needs to be a seven to eight team list where you allow him to properly canvas.
04:57They could all be playoff teams or playoff caliber teams.
04:59I totally respect a player who is going to be 30 and has dealt with this for his career.
05:04Again, I understand wanting out.
05:05I understand saying, Steve, you haven't done a good job, but you have to work with the team.
05:11You can't say, I want to go play in these three places, all of which have very little to send
05:15back to Detroit.
05:16A deal is just not going to get done.
05:18No.
05:19And I think a twitcher puts it best.
05:22And it's kind of why I asked the question, is he good enough to demand a trade?
05:27Dynasty Dan says, it's like he thinks he's LeBron.
05:30And that's kind of what I felt when Dylan Larkin said, I'm demanding out of Detroit.
05:37Boy, now, if he had come with a list of, let's push your number on it, seven or eight teams.
05:43I kind of said 10, but let's just say seven or eight teams.
05:46All right.
05:47I think you could probably work a deal with one of those eight teams.
05:52But by saying, I want to go to one of the top three contenders going into next year for the
05:59Stanley Cup,
06:00I want to be Matthew Stafford.
06:03I want to be Mitch Marner.
06:05I want to go from a team that my local team, the team that brought me into the league,
06:11the team that gave me the chance, and nothing is working out.
06:16I'm not going to take any of the responsibility myself.
06:19And I want to go to a team that is lined up to win the cup.
06:24Well, let's talk about what a no trade clause is actually for.
06:28A no trade clause is there so Iserman can't send him to Siberia,
06:32can't trade him to Calgary,
06:34can't trade him to a bottom feeder.
06:36A no trade clause is to protect a player from being sent to no man's land.
06:42It is not in a contract for you to strong arm yourself to one or two or three places.
06:49And that is how he is reportedly choosing to use it,
06:53which is why he's losing everybody.
06:56Even the people who said when the news broke, I get it, they're turning on Dylan Larkin.
07:02That's a question I'd have for Wings fans today.
07:05Are you turning on him?
07:072-4-8-5-3-9-97-97.
07:09I think the initial reaction, because the Iser plan has not gone as planned,
07:16that everyone was, not everyone, but a lot of people were initially upset
07:21and put the blame on Steve Iserman.
07:23Well, Steve created the mess.
07:24Sure.
07:24And hey, if you're still there, that's fine.
07:27There's still a lot of blame to be put there.
07:29Yeah, this doesn't let Iserman off the hook.
07:31No, but I think there is a sentiment now that we're starting to see the three teams,
07:37the only three teams, are Stanley Cup favorites going into next year,
07:42that everybody's looking at it going, wait a second here.
07:45I mean, hey, if you want out, okay, all right, you were good enough to earn this no trade clause.
07:53And yeah, you shouldn't go to Siberia to play hockey,
07:56but we also are fans of the Detroit Red Wings, not just Dylan Larkin,
08:04not just Alex DeBrinckit, not Kane, not any individual.
08:09We're fans of the Detroit Red Wings.
08:13We want what's best for the Detroit Red Wings.
08:16And only having three teams, you're starting to look at Dylan Larkin,
08:21like I mentioned, as arrogant.
08:24Are you kidding me?
08:26Who do you think you are?
08:27Yeah, because if he was McJesus, okay, you demand a trade,
08:33and now those three teams would 100% covet and give up so much to get him, McDavid.
08:42There's also a big difference, not just in skill level between McDavid and Larkin,
08:48in the contract length.
08:50See, McDavid set this up where he only has a fleeting number of years.
08:55Larkin signed for five more.
08:57Yeah.
08:58So you have to play ball.
09:00It's not like you could.
09:01Thank you, Greg.
09:02It's not like you can just say, well, I'll play disgruntled for 18 months and then stick you with the
09:08bill.
09:08Right.
09:09You got five years left on this deal,
09:12which I think is why he wants to be very particular in where he goes.
09:15But you have to also be reasonable.
09:18The team is not obligated to send you to your premier preferential destination.
09:25And there are more than three good hockey teams in the National Hockey League that you could go to
09:29and still achieve all your dreams.
09:30Yeah.
09:32Well, and if I'm Dylan Larkin, or if I'm Dylan Larkin's agent,
09:35and he comes to me and says, I want out of Detroit,
09:38here are the three teams that I would go to.
09:41Now, it's not just Steve Iserman that should be working to get the best trade for Dylan Larkin.
09:50It's his agent that should also be talking to those teams and saying,
09:54hey, I want to get this deal done.
09:57I want to get my client out of Detroit.
10:00So he should also, he or she, whoever it is,
10:03should also be working those three teams to say, hey, you know,
10:08we got to give up a little bit more.
10:09It's not going to happen.
10:10You really want Dylan Larkin.
10:11We got to, you got to throw in this player, throw in this player, throw in this asset.
10:14We talked about when this news broke, it benefited Larkin.
10:19Right?
10:19That he wants out, it gets public, it puts Iserman in a tough spot.
10:23Well, it wouldn't surprise me then you got to,
10:25this is going to get legislated in the public now.
10:30Yeah.
10:30Hey, here's his three team list.
10:33Look how bad he looks.
10:34So his only rebuttal now is to either sit and hope that Iserman
10:39caves or he's going to have to give a little.
10:43He's going to have to add a couple extra teams to that.
10:45No trade.
10:45If you just look at the three on the list right now,
10:48Vegas has no cap space.
10:50Vegas has very little draft capital,
10:52very few young assets to trade.
10:56For Minnesota,
10:57they gave up quite a bit to get Quinn Hughes.
10:59Their most attractive young pieces of goalie.
11:01One problem, Iserman's been stockpiling young goalies.
11:04The forwards that people are talking about project to be second and third
11:08line guys.
11:09Like that's just not going to move the needle for Iserman,
11:11nor should he run his team just to satisfy Dylan Larkin.
11:14And then the third team is Florida and their most attractive asset is the
11:17number nine pick,
11:18which helps nobody.
11:20Yeah.
11:20No Red Wing fan wants to hear.
11:21Well,
11:22our best return for this deal is a player who will skate in Detroit three
11:26years from now.
11:27Maybe.
11:27Maybe.
11:28Right.
11:29So I want to get to the phones.
11:30I want to hear from Wings fans this morning.
11:32Larkin's three teams.
11:33Are you turning on him?
11:35Kevin,
11:35good morning.
11:39Kevin,
11:39you're on.
11:40How are you doing this morning?
11:43Kevin,
11:43it might be an issue on our end.
11:44We're trying to get you potted up.
11:45We'll put you on hold.
11:47We'll figure it out.
11:48A little technical issue back here.
11:49We'll figure it out.
11:50We're up against it anyway.
11:50I tried to squeeze the call in.
11:52We'll get more feedback next.
11:53It's 97 one.
