Watch the highlights of stage 9 of the Giro d'Italia Women 2026, which took place on 07/06/2026.

Welcome to the 37th edition of one of women’s cycling's most iconic races! After having won the race two years in a row, Longo Borghini is again the cyclist to watch. But with an additional 9th stage joining the race this year and bringing the race to a total of 1177 km, she will have many rivals chasing after her title. With none more dangerous than Demi Vollering, who after a terrific spring season, is looking to take her first Giro victory and is by many pinned as the one to beat. Or will we see a surprise winner emerge in the Dolomites in the recently returned Marlen Reusser or Anna van der Breggen? With a mix of flat sprinting races and rough climbs in the mountains ahead of us, there will be plenty of excitement ahead of the finish in Saluzzo.

00:29Damie Vollering, focused and concentrated in the blue of the Maliar Azura.
00:34There was Elisa Balsamo in that Maliarosa, having won 4 stages, too.
00:41Looking good to bring that one home, but she'd need to complete the 145km.
00:45We did have an early breakaway of 4 riders,
00:48but that was wound in before we got to the first, first category climb of Montoso.
00:53And it was Damie Vollering in the Queen of the Mountains Maliar Azura jersey,
00:57leading across the top in a very select leading group as well.
01:02But that having happened, we had another advance party.
01:05Elisa Longoborgini, the defending champion and 2 time winner of the general classification,
01:09going over the top in a leading group of 3, being chased by Femke De Vries.
01:14Once again, Lauren Dixon, the British rider, was doing an incredible ride for FDJ Suiz,
01:20and, of course, her team leader, Damie Vollering.
01:25They would catch up with Femke De Vries, led by Anna van der Breggen,
01:29looking confident and in control in the Maliarosa,
01:32and swapping turns with the Maliar Azura of Damie Vollering.
01:39De Vries sitting in, and Lauren Dixon still doing everything she could
01:42to keep adding to that advantage and closing the gap, hopefully, on these three.
01:46The big advantage here was with Antonia Niedermeyer, the German rider for Canyon SRAM.
01:51Lauren Dixon was done, and it was back to Anna van der Breggen in the race lead
01:56to try and make sure she could close the gap on Niedermeyer, who was flying out front.
02:01Damie Vollering once again using the lifts in the middle of the stage
02:04on the Brondello climb to try and break Anna van der Breggen, and it worked.
02:09The four-time champion in the Maliarosa being distanced by Damie Vollering on the climb as well,
02:14and Vollering going solo in pursuit of these three riders.
02:17It was Antonia Niedermeyer who led over the top of Brondello,
02:20and further down the mountain, you could see the Maliarosa by herself
02:25chasing the Maliar Azura.
02:27Damie Vollering going on a charge to try and stay ahead of Anna van der Breggen
02:31and see if she could catch Niedermeyer up the road in that breakaway
02:35with Niamh Fischer-Black and Elisa Longo-Borghini, the Italian champion.
02:39It had all come down to this final stage.
02:41People were questioning and wondering whether the final stage would be enough
02:44to make up the gaps that weren't able to be gained on the Queen stage yesterday,
02:48but it was proving to be enough.
02:51We were watching the clock top left, and look at that.
02:53Damie Vollering catching up with Niedermeyer at the front of the race
02:56with Niamh Fischer-Black and Elisa Longo-Borghini,
02:58and behind an unlikely companion in Femke de Vries for, well, the race leader,
03:05Anna van der Breggen in the Maliarosa, desperately chasing this leading group,
03:10and Damie Vollering straight to the front of the lead group,
03:13watching that gap.
03:151.26.
03:16Damie Vollering has started the day just 49 seconds off the race lead,
03:21and she was in the race lead, of course.
03:23Coming back into Saluzzo, she just kept extending.
03:25Extending the group she was with, of course, delighted to see her there
03:29because she would just keep pulling and pulling all the way to the finish.
03:3310k to go, and the gap was 2 minutes and 14.
03:37Damie Vollering in the race lead virtually on the road,
03:40but she needed to finish it off.
03:42You never, ever underestimate Anna van der Breggen,
03:45two-time world champion, four-time winner of this race overall.
03:49Never, ever giving up.
03:51And amongst these leading fours that came to the finish,
03:53they knew the stage win of the ninth and final stage was in their grasp in Saluzzo,
03:57but who would it be?
03:58Damie Vollering, no doubt about it, would keep pushing.
04:01She needed as much advantage as she possibly could,
04:04and that's what she did to the line in Saluzzo.
04:06It was Niamh Fischer-Black of Lidl Trek ready to go.
04:10Antonia Niedermeyer also very conscious of her general classification position,
04:13so Niamh Fischer-Black went first,
04:15chased by Elisa Longoborghini.
04:19Longoborghini, the Italian champion,
04:20hadn't yet won a stage, two-time champion overall, of course,
04:24and she made that right on the final stage
04:27as she celebrated Damie Vollering behind being told
04:31she had enough of a gap to celebrate.
04:33It was the gap back to this rider, Anna van der Breggen,
04:37brought in by Femke de Vries,
04:39but on the final day,
04:41Anna van der Breggen, who'd looked so good after the time trial,
04:44had lost the race lead.
04:46Damie Vollering completes the triplet of Grand Tours.
04:51Incredible.
04:51Elisa Longoborghini delighting the crowd, of course,
04:54with her stage win.
04:55The Italian champion and the European champion,
04:58Damie Vollering, as I say,
04:59taking her first ever Giro d'Italia women win overall.
05:04That was the podium.
05:06Elisa Balsamo delighted the Italian fans also
05:08with her four stage wins,
05:09and the Malia Rosa as well as the best sprinter in the race,
05:14with no doubt.
05:14Damie Vollering also, without doubt,
05:16the best climber in the race
05:17and rewarded with the Malia Azura.
05:21Best young rider, breakout star,
05:23the 21-year-old Isabella Holmgren, the Canadian.
05:28Best team, Lidl Trek.
05:30No great surprise with their climbing prowess
05:32as well in this race.
05:34and a final opportunity for them on the podium
05:36before we see Damie Vollering
05:38holding up the trofeo Luce Infinita.
05:44Elisa, congratulations.
05:45A few days ago, you write that
05:47there are days that are more than a win,
05:49and we can say that this win
05:51is more than a simple win for you.
05:54Yeah, this means much more than a win.
05:57and this is a comeback.
06:03I don't say that I've been vulnerable
06:07these months, both in my body
06:12and also in my mind.
06:14There were days where I thought that
06:18everything probably would never come back,
06:21and I was maybe, yeah, done, you know.
06:27I've been very sick the past three months,
06:30and I worked very hard to come back.
06:33I'm not still 100%,
06:35but I didn't want to leave this Giro
06:38without leaving a mark.
06:40And today in the bus,
06:42I felt this anger coming inside me,
06:47and I was like, I have nothing to lose.
06:50I don't care about the GC,
06:52and I just want to go
06:54and I want to do it for my teammates
06:56that are simply amazing.
07:00And I just wanted to, yeah, to win.
07:04That was the only thing I was thinking today,
07:08to win.
07:09And this is a victory that goes
07:14to all the people that love me.
07:17and we celebrated a lot of riders
07:21that are finishing their career,
07:23but we never mentioned one of the riders
07:25that is one of the best domestic in the world,
07:29and is Elena, my teammate, Amiel Jusic.
07:32And this victory is also for her
07:34because it's her last Giro,
07:35and next year she will stop.
07:37So this is for you, Elena,
07:39and thank you very much
07:41for everything you did for me.
07:43We have seen a lot of people
07:45cheering for you,
07:46cheering for your anger,
07:48but also for your heart.
07:49Everyone thinks
07:51when you don't have enough legs,
07:53Elisa has the heart.
07:55This is maybe a message
07:56you want to send during this Giro.
07:59Yeah, exactly.
08:00When you don't have legs,
08:03you have to use your head
08:07and use your heart.
08:09The heart can do a lot.
08:11The will can do a lot.
08:13And in the end,
08:16we are humans.
08:17And it's fine to lose
08:19and it's fine also
08:21to stand on your knees,
08:24but to get up
08:25and to put your chin up
08:27and fight with pride.
08:30Thank you.
08:30Thank you.
08:31Jamie, congratulations.
08:32Pinks fit very well on you.
08:35What are the emotions
08:35on wearing the Malha Rosa?
08:37It's crazy.
08:38I think I cannot describe it yet.
08:42It feels so surreal.
08:44I mean, we made this plan
08:45yesterday evening already.
08:47Yesterday evening,
08:49a large hour de yes
08:50and Elisa Lott
08:51they came to our table
08:52when we were having dinner
08:53and they started to joke
08:55a little bit like
08:56prepare yourself
08:57because tomorrow
08:57is going to be
08:58a very long
08:59and very big day
08:59for all of us.
09:00And the girls,
09:01they were like,
09:02oh yeah, let's go.
09:04And from the start on
09:05they were on fire.
09:06They really tried
09:07to be in the breakaway.
09:08That didn't happen.
09:10But then my teammate,
09:12they directly put a pace
09:14on this long first climb.
09:16And yeah,
09:17Laurence,
09:18she was amazing today.
09:19She kept going.
09:21And then we made it
09:22over the top
09:22with a small group.
09:24and I just,
09:28today was all about
09:29daring to lose.
09:31I had to dare
09:32to lose it all.
09:33So I was able to
09:35and yeah,
09:36I let Antonia go away
09:38and I was like to Anna,
09:40I'm fine with also turret
09:41because second or third
09:42doesn't matter to me.
09:43It's now up to you
09:45to work
09:45and then I had to try
09:48to drop her somewhere
09:49and I really went
09:50all in on that last climb.
09:52I knew that was
09:53like the time trial
09:54of my life
09:55I had to do there.
09:56Well,
09:57and then it was
09:57still so long
09:58to the finish
09:59but
10:01I did it.
10:03We did it
10:03and I can still
10:06not believe it.
10:07We have seen
10:08your huge attack
10:10on the climb
10:10and when did you realize
10:13that the Maglia
10:14could be yours?
10:16Well,
10:16I only dared to dream
10:17of it
10:18when I only had
10:19already two minutes
10:20before I was really
10:22still like
10:23because also
10:23like I held cramp
10:25everywhere
10:26in my legs
10:27so I was really
10:28I was really
10:29like
10:30with still 20k
10:31to go
10:31I was like
10:32I hope I make it
10:33to the finish line
10:34but
10:35the group I was in
10:36was working
10:37really well together
10:37and
10:38yeah,
10:39it was quite a fast terrain
10:40so I was like
10:41okay,
10:42I think
10:42I think this might work
10:44and then I just
10:45I was flying
10:46I was like
10:48it gave me
10:49really wings today
10:50to have the thought
10:51that it was maybe
10:52possible
10:52as soon as I had
10:54the Gap on
10:54I was like
10:55okay,
10:55now I really need
10:56to give it
10:56everything I have
10:57with today
10:58you write the history
10:59what could be
11:00the next goal
11:01for the legend
11:01Demi Bollering
11:03of course
11:04I dream of
11:04the Tour de France
11:05but first
11:06I should enjoy
11:06this one
11:07because I also
11:08know how easily
11:09it's to
11:10to lose
11:10a Grand Tour
11:12it's not so
11:14sometimes I think
11:15it's really normal
11:16to win almost
11:17but I also know
11:18it's not normal
11:19thank you
11:20congratulations
