Listen to what Urška Žigart, Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig, Alison Jackson, Amanda Spratt, Lauren Dickson and Elena Cecchini have to say ahead of stage 9 of the Giro d'Italia Women 2026!

Welcome to the 37th edition of one of women’s cycling's most iconic races! After having won the race two years in a row, Longo Borghini is again the cyclist to watch. But with an additional 9th stage joining the race this year and bringing the race to a total of 1177 km, she will have many rivals chasing after her title. With none more dangerous than Demi Vollering, who after a terrific spring season, is looking to take her first Giro victory and is by many pinned as the one to beat. Or will we see a surprise winner emerge in the Dolomites in the recently returned Marlen Reusser or Anna van der Breggen? With a mix of flat sprinting races and rough climbs in the mountains ahead of us, there will be plenty of excitement ahead of the finish in Saluzzo.

01:42Grazie.

01:56sono felice.
01:57Sei una delle ragazze che guardate oggi,
01:59guardando la stagione di oggi,
02:00cosa aspettiamo?
02:01Ho aspettato una stagione super, super stagione,
02:05perché credo che il GC
02:06può ancora cambiare,
02:09soprattutto perché è un buon giorno così difficile.
02:12quindi, sì,
02:13bisogna essere qui,
02:14bisogna essere in fronte,
02:15bisogna essere pronti.
02:16In order to keep the podium of Antonia,
02:18qual'è il plan
02:19e do you expect any kind of attack and wear?
02:21Sì,
02:21credo che il primo climb
02:23sarà super hard,
02:24credo che sul top
02:25ci sarà un gruppo super piccolo,
02:28e poi da qui,
02:29credo che dal resto della gara
02:30sarà attack,
02:31counter-attack,
02:32e poi la questione è
02:33se sarà stoppita
02:34e se saranno tornare
02:36e poi iniziare attacchiando,
02:37ma sicuramente sarà così tutto il giorno?
02:40Grazie.
02:41Grazie.
03:09Grazie.
03:23Grazie.
03:24Grazie.
03:43Grazie.
03:53Grazie.
03:56Amanda,
03:56first of all,
03:57today's gonna be such,
03:58you know,
03:58an emotional day
03:59because it's the last day
04:00of your last Giro.
04:02Yeah,
04:03I think, yeah,
04:03there'll probably be some tears at the end,
04:05I mean,
04:05it's a race that I did my first one in 2006,
04:08so a very,
04:09very long time ago.
04:10I've won the Muglia Rolls,
04:11I've had a stage win,
04:12I've been part of Giro overall wins with my teammates,
04:15so, I mean,
04:16it's been a really amazing Giro so far for our team
04:19with the four stage wins and the white jersey,
04:21red jersey,
04:22so hopefully we can have another strong day today.
04:23An important day today to keep, you know,
04:26the little track in such a good position,
04:28what's the plan?
04:29Yeah, I mean,
04:30I think with a shortened stage yesterday,
04:32it's still really close in the GC
04:33and I think a rider like Demi Vollering
04:35is not just gonna let that pink jersey
04:36slip away without trying,
04:38so we expect a really hard race,
04:39probably aggressive again from the start,
04:42good breakaway opportunity as well,
04:43we'll see if there's more focus on GC riders
04:45looking at each other
04:46and maybe there's opportunities there for breakaway,
04:49but one thing's for sure,
04:50it's gonna be hard.
04:51What do you expect from the first hard climb today?
04:55I think it will be hard, exactly that,
04:58I think it's almost 10% 9K,
05:01and I think it's really in the sun,
05:03as we see it's hot weather today as well,
05:04I think we're day nine as well,
05:06so I think we'll already have a very small group
05:08after that climb and whether it comes back together
05:10or we keep racing hard,
05:12I think it's just gonna depend
05:13what happens really on that first climb.
05:15Thank you.
05:16Gracias.
05:17Lauren, first of all,
05:18how are you?
05:19How is going the Giro so far?
05:20Yeah, really good, thank you.
05:22Yeah, it's been a hard set of days,
05:24but really, really good,
05:26we're really enjoying it,
05:27and I think every day our team comes out
05:29with full commitment,
05:30and we really try to execute our plan.
05:32Looking at today,
05:33the last opportunity to get the Maglia Rosa for Demi,
05:36what's the plan and when do you think
05:38you could maybe play an important attack?
05:40I think in racing your plan always has to be dynamic,
05:44but yeah, we really want a really hard race,
05:46and we're gonna give it our absolutely everything.
05:50So yeah, we'll just see how it plays out,
05:52but definitely expect some hard racing,
05:53I think there's gonna be fireworks.
05:56Looking at the SD works,
05:57how do you think they will act in order to keep the Maglia on
06:01and Anna van der Breggen?
06:02It's a hard one.
06:03I mean, they're a really strong team.
06:06I definitely think that Valentina is going to be key for Anna,
06:11and yeah, it really depends on how the race plays out,
06:13when the breakaway goes as to where all their riders are.
06:16Thank you.
06:18Elena, first question is kind of emotional,
06:20because today is the last stage of your last Giro.
06:23How do you feel?
06:24Yes, pretty exciting,
06:25and also to have Anna in the pink,
06:27I don't think it can get any better.
06:29Of course, it would be a dream to finish it off today,
06:32and it's a tough, tough day,
06:34and we will try to support Anna like we did the past days
06:37as much as possible,
06:38and we try to make it a good one.
06:40We expect a lot of attacks today in order to,
06:42you know, to keep the Maglia.
06:44Where do you expect them?
06:45everywhere, I think, from the gun.
06:48I mean, you know, the last stage is always complicated itself,
06:52because a lot of riders have nothing from this Giro yet,
06:55and they want to win the stage.
06:57A lot of teams are going for it,
06:58plus there is the GC still going on,
07:00so it's going to be a really hard day,
07:04and we are in five,
07:06but, you know, we will try to control it as much as possible
07:10and do our best.
07:11Yeah, looking at your plan in order to keep the Maglia
07:14for Anna,
07:16do you think being five could be a problem,
07:18or do you have, you know, something still in mind?
07:20Well, for sure, you know,
07:22like losing Lorena and Miki was a big thing,
07:25because they could still support Anna in the climbs
07:27more than me and Barbara, for sure.
07:30But, yeah, in the end,
07:32if the selection will be made,
07:33probably we will have three riders there,
07:35and it can be enough.
07:36Thank you.
07:37Grazie, grazie mille.
07:38Ciao.
07:58Grazie a tutti.
08:26Grazie a tutti.
08:44Grazie a tutti.
