Listen to what Kristen Faulkner, Elena Cecchini, Uttrup Cecilie Ludwig, Demi Vollering, Elisa Longo Borghini and Niamh Fisher-Black have to say ahead of stage 2 of the Giro d'Italia Women 2026!

Welcome to the 37th edition of one of women’s cycling's most iconic races! After having won the race two years in a row, Longo Borghili is again the cyclist to watch. But with an additional 9th stage joining the race this year and bringing the race to a total of 1177 km, she will have many rivals chasing after her title. With none more dangerous than Demi Vollering, who after a terrific spring season, is looking to take her first Giro victory and is by many pinned as the one to beat. Or will we see a surprise winner emerge in the Dolomites in the recently returned Marlen Reusser or Anna van der Breggen? With a mix of flat sprinting races and rough climbs in the mountains ahead of us, there will be plenty of excitement ahead of the finish in Saluzzo.

00:00First of all, Kristen, hello. How are you? How is going the Giro so far?
00:03Good so far, yeah. It's hot, but it looks like today won't be so hot, so it's actually a good
00:08thing.
00:09Looking at today's stage, this could fit well on you instead of the first one. What's your plan? How will
00:15you face it?
00:17Yeah, well, we're really excited. We want to win some stages at some point this tour.
00:21We also have Magdalene and GC that we're protecting, so I like days like today because they're unpredictable
00:26and you can have a lot of fun, and those are my favorite races.
00:29What do you think about the main obstacle of today, the mountainers' climb?
00:32Do you think it could be spread more, the GC, or maybe we have to wait tomorrow for creating more
00:38gaps?
00:39I think it depends how it's raced. If some teams decide to go full gas a bit, there could definitely
00:43be a GC split.
00:44I think if teams race it a little easier, like yesterday that had another steep pitch and it wasn't race
00:49full gas,
00:50then it probably won't have a split, so I think it depends on if teams with sprinters want to keep
00:56it together
00:56and keep it slow or if some GC riders decide to attack and get away.
01:00So I could see either one going. It just depends on how some teams decide to race it.
01:04Thank you. Good luck.
01:06So Elena, first of all, this stage will arrive in your places. How much energy and confidence does it give
01:11you?
01:11Yeah, it's a special day, you know, like it will be a hard stage. I think a little bit of
01:17fireworks in the final climbs,
01:18but always special for an Italian to pass your own village and to be able to see the people who
01:24help you so much in your career.
01:26So I'm going to enjoy it.
01:27Since you know well these places, what do you expect from today's stage, especially from the Montenars climb,
01:34how maybe the other teams will react?
01:37Montenars is hard and after that there is still something coming up, like in Gemona.
01:42It's a really tricky and I would say also technical part.
01:45So it's completely open and I think it will depend a lot how the teams will race, what the big
01:51teams will want.
01:53So yeah, it's very open. It can be a small group or it can be already like something for the
01:58GC riders.
01:59Do you expect a breakaway?
02:01Can be, can be, but I think an early breakaway for sure and maybe something coming up from the peloton
02:08in the final part.
02:09We'll see. Thank you.
02:11So Cecile, since I haven't talked with you, first, how are you? How are you happy to be back at
02:15the Giro?
02:15Yeah, I love to be at the Giro. It's always good and good vibes and yeah, good temperature.
02:20I mean, it's a little bit hot, but I'm alright.
02:23Looking at today, things get more serious with our ups and downs. What do you expect around today?
02:28Yeah, I'm just excited because we've had two flat stages and we're finally having a bit of hills.
02:33So yeah, and it should be an exciting final. I think it's getting hard towards the final, so we like.
02:39Nice. Looking at the Montenars climb, but what do you expect?
02:43And also during this stage, do you expect a breakaway from someone?
02:46Yeah, I think probably they will go breakaway in the beginning, but I think towards the final.
02:51I think we might even see the GC riders move a bit, especially the last super hard climb.
02:57But yeah, I think this is a stage that actually could end up in a breakaway, so we'll see about
03:03that.
03:03Wiz, you seem so happy, so good luck for today. Thank you so much.
03:06Today you will arrive in Booyah and a friend of you, we can call it, she's from there.
03:12Yes, Elena Cecchini, she's from there and she has been a very important teammate for me when I was in
03:19SDWorks.
03:20And still we are really good contact, so it's crazy to think about that she do her last Giro here.
03:27And that's really special, of course, to ride over her home roads.
03:30She's from Udine, from San Marcos, so I hope we can give her a warm welcome there.
03:37And yeah, of course, after she will probably enjoy a little bit more at home when she will be retired
03:44because less traveling.
03:46But yeah, I hope she has a good day on the bike today.
03:49Looking at today's stage, more ups and downs, more heels, more climb.
03:53What do you expect? Maybe some team will try to break away.
03:56Yeah, who knows? I mean, it's a little bit different.
03:59I think yesterday everybody was also ready again for a sprint, especially that Lorena was not there yesterday.
04:08You could feel the rest of the peloton not like, okay, new chances for us.
04:13But today it's a bit more hilly in the last part, so maybe that changed something.
04:19I'm looking forward for a bit, testing the legs a little bit more than the last few days, so we
04:25see.
04:26Another stage for the sprinters, but win more up and down.
04:30So what do you expect? Do you expect maybe a breakaway?
04:33Yeah, surely in the first half of the race I expect a little breakaway going up.
04:38But then it's a little bit unpredictable today because there are two climbs in a row.
04:44And if somebody wants to anticipate the sprint, there is plenty of space to do it.
04:50And yeah, we need to be very, very careful and with eyes wide open.
04:56Looking at the GC in order to create more gaps, do you think will happen something today or maybe we'll
05:03have to wait tomorrow?
05:05It depends. I mean, for sure tomorrow will shape the GC in a bigger way.
05:13But it depends the way the race will be played today also.
05:18So first of all, Nib, how are you? Which kind of boost of happiness gave you the win of Elisa
05:24yesterday?
05:25Yeah, a lot. I mean, there's nothing like pulling off a win as a team.
05:29And I think the last few days has been pretty special for us.
05:32And yeah, to also have the pink, it fills everyone with pride and confidence.
05:37Looking at today's stage, Elisa is confident about the possibility to keep the Maglia Rosa.
05:42So how the team, your team will support her?
05:46Yeah, I mean, it's another good stage for Elisa.
05:50And yeah, it's about, I think we take a certain responsibility when we have the pink jersey.
05:56So yeah, we take that on as a team, I think.
05:59And yeah, we make sure we will make sure that Elisa comes to the final in a good way.
06:05And yeah, I think the goal stays the same.
06:07Yep.
06:08Do you expect a breakaway today, maybe?
06:11It's possible, yes.
06:12But yeah, it's again something that we'll have to see on the road.
06:17And maybe it's a case of controlling again like yesterday.
06:21But yeah, we will see.
06:23Thank you. Good luck.
