00:00Yesterday's time trial to Nevegal was an incredible display of dominance by Anna van der Breggen,
00:06herself one of the greatest riders of all time and a four-time winner of the Giro d'Italia women.
00:12She would start stage five in the Maliarosa and it was a really tough Dolomite stage too.
00:20Starting out in the province of Bellungo in Longarone at the foot of the Dolomites
00:25and climbing up into those Dolomite mountains as well to take on four Cattle Guys climbs,
00:31two of them first category too. A massive day out and an opportunity for the likes of Demi Vollering
00:38and others to test Anna van der Breggen to see just how good she now is in this second comeback
00:44season
00:45for her where yesterday she really did look to be back to her best. Now we had a massive leading
00:50group,
00:50some 22 riders away from the front, none of them massive threats on GC but Lauren Dixon was in there,
00:56the British rider who finished sixth in the time trial yesterday.
01:01And in the group too, the likes of Marion Bunel, plenty of good climbing talent in there too.
01:08Caroline Anderson had taken the 20 points at the top of the Paso 3 Croce.
01:15And then next up they had the Paso di Sant'Antonio as well. Incredible scenery, beautiful weather it has to
01:22be said as well
01:22for this Dolomite day and it really was sorting things out. Lauren Dixon climbing really amongst the best of them
01:28along with Marion Bunel in what remained of that leading group too.
01:34Dixon's hard efforts paying off giving her 20 points in the Malia Azura competition as well.
01:42All of the Dolomite villages that the race passed through really turning out for the Giro d'Italia women.
01:46It was a stunningly beautiful day in the hills. Bunel was enjoying her time too
01:51but Dixon making sure she kept a close eye on the French climber.
01:57And then on the climb of Costa for the first time, Demi Vollering, the European champion,
02:02yet to win this race of course overall, going on the attack as well.
02:08She had with her the race leader, the Malia Rosa of course, Anna van der Breggen.
02:12And this attacking was doing damage specifically to Elisa Longo-Borgini who was having a tough day.
02:18She'd not ridden as well as she normally would in the time trial yesterday.
02:23She was battling to try and stay in touch.
02:27The two-time winner of this race, the Italian champion, Elisa Longo-Borgini, never gives up
02:32and that was certainly the case today.
02:33Now out front, Monica Trinca-Colonel had gone off the Italian rider for Jaco Alula by herself.
02:39She led through the finish line the first time.
02:43with just over 20k to go.
02:47That was the chase behind as well.
02:49The second group which had Elisa Longo-Borgini in there in company.
02:52Monica Trinca-Colonel settling in on the second ascent of Costa.
02:57But it would be that climb again, seemingly to the liking of Demi Vollering.
03:02She was causing trouble, really shaking out the legs in that group.
03:05In fact, Demi Vollering then forced a selection which became herself, Antonia Niedermeyer,
03:12Isabella Holgren in the Best Young Riders jersey and Anna van der Breggen, the Malia Rosa.
03:18We were seeing a full general classification shakedown in the Dolomites,
03:22which is of course exactly what we wanted.
03:25Anna van der Breggen taking the weight of the race on her shoulders.
03:28Don't forget Demi Vollering, a former teammate of hers and also a former charge of hers
03:33in the time that Anna van der Breggen was a sport director at SD work.
03:37She's now back in the saddle and back in pink, it has to be said, which is remarkable.
03:42This was group three, which had Oerska Ziga in there.
03:45Magdalene Valliere is the world champion as well.
03:48All the best riders in the world in this year's 37th Giro d'Italia women
03:53and in the Dolomites in glorious Italian sunshine too.
03:57Elisa Longo-Borgini had Nied Fischer-Black with her,
04:00but Fischer-Black wasn't able to help maybe as much as she'd want.
04:02It was a desperate chase from the two-time champion and she was never far off.
04:07Look at that, with 2.5k to go, still just 30 seconds off the front of the race.
04:12Elisa Longo-Borgini on a mountain time trial to try and stay in touch with the general classification.
04:18But under the flam rouge, these were the four that would go for it.
04:21Vollering, Niedermeyer, Holgrim and van der Breggen.
04:24It was initially Isabella Holgrim who went first and then came Demi Vollering.
04:29Demi Vollering going over the top.
04:31She's worked on her sprint the last few years and it shows.
04:34Look at the gap for the European champion.
04:36Demi Vollering rounding in on her stage win and she got it too.
04:41And what an illustrious leading group.
04:43A bubbling up a brilliant talent for Antonia Niedermeyer and Isabella Holgrim.
04:48But with them, two titans of the sport.
04:51Demi Vollering taking the win.
04:53Anna van der Breggen continuing to lead in the Malia Rosa.
04:58Going into the sprinter's stage, really, tomorrow to Brascello.
05:01It's going to be a flat, fast one in the Veneto tomorrow.
05:05Racing into Emilia-Romagna.
05:07Make sure you join us tomorrow for stage six.
05:15Congratulations.
05:15First win at Giro Woman.
05:17How it feels?
05:17How are you?
05:18I'm very happy to take the victory here.
05:20It's my first stage in the Giro.
05:24So, it's a nice one.
05:27How was the climb?
05:28We have seen you setting the pace on the climb and also on the descent.
05:32Could this be a message to Anna van der Breggen?
05:35Yeah, it was a really long and hard day.
05:38We started racing already very early.
05:40We wanted to have some riders of our team in the breakaway.
05:44and we managed directly with Amber and Lauren, like the plan.
05:49It was perfect.
05:50And, wow, yeah, they did such an amazing job.
05:54At one point, like, before we came here on the last climb,
06:04I still had Lauren in front of me.
06:07So, I managed to bridge and she did amazing work after on the flat
06:12and on the first part of the first climb again.
06:14And I maybe went a little bit too early.
06:19So, in the end, I could not really make a difference anymore on the climb.
06:22But, yeah, it was a really nice day.
06:26Like, we really raced with everything we had.
06:28and it was a real battle out there.
06:31Looking at tomorrow, you will have more time, you know, to rest,
06:35to maybe try to win that Maglia Rosa in the next stage.
06:41So, tomorrow, I mean, the situation will be the same.
06:44What do you expect?
06:45Yeah, tomorrow it's like a flat stage.
06:47So, probably something for the sprint is more again or a breakaway.
06:53Today was a big day, so tonight we will discuss for tomorrow, for sure.
06:58Thank you.
06:59So, Anna, congratulations, still in pink after such a hard stage.
07:03How are you? How was today?
07:05Yeah, let's say I'm happy. I'm still in pink.
07:08The last two days were, yeah, like, hard days.
07:11And also today was a really tough day, but in the end, yeah, the team did also really good for
07:20me.
07:20And I was really happy with that.
07:23And in the end, it turned out hard, but with a good fight.
07:27And okay, so I'm really happy with that.
07:29Looking at the GC, Demi Vollering is one minute behind you.
07:32Do you think she is the main competitor for the pink jersey during this year?
07:39Yeah, yeah, for sure.
07:40If you look to today, then Demi tried a lot, many punchy attacks also.
07:46I think in the end, everybody was tired, you could feel.
07:50But I must say the two youngsters also did really good to be there and Antonia also.
07:56And, yeah, I mean, it's also depending on recovery now and how it's going for the rest.
08:05I think everybody needs some good recovery and then we will see what the next stages are bringing.
08:11Looking at tomorrow, we won't expect something change, particularly in the GC or in the overall standing.
08:19So what's your plan in order to, you know, recover a little bit?
08:22Yeah, I mean, that's the main goal.
08:24Try to recover a bit, still long stages.
08:29But, yeah, also the last days will be really hard.
08:33So, I mean, we need to recover, but it's the same for everybody.
08:37So, no, really happy, still in pink and still keep on comp fighting to bring it home.
08:44Thank you.
08:45So, Isabella, first of all, congratulations.
08:46Are you satisfied with your race day?
08:48Thank you, yeah, I think it was a super tough day.
08:51Of course, in the final, it's not necessarily my favorite terrain.
08:55And, yeah, still learning how to race in the final like that with a small group.
08:59So, yeah, I'm happy with today.
09:02Looking at today, looking at the climbs, we have seen you, one of the main characters also from the pace
09:07made by Demi Vollering, always next to her.
09:11What can we expect from you, not tomorrow, because we know it's going to be a spring day, but also
09:16in the other stages?
09:18Yeah, I'm really looking forward to the next days with some of the longer climbs.
09:22But I think, yeah, it's such a long race, you just have to see every day how you're feeling.
09:25So, I'm really looking forward to the next days.
09:28The white jersey is again with you.
09:30I mean, now we expect you to keep it.
09:34It is your main goal, or maybe you are trying to make also other goals?
09:39No, I think the white jersey is something that just comes with the race.
09:43The main goal is still the GC and, yeah, fighting for the red jersey for Bartzi as well.
09:48So, if the white jersey comes at the end of the week, then that's a super nice bonus.
09:52A flat stage tomorrow, the perfect occasion to maybe take some breath and rest a little bit.
09:58Yeah, but I mean, you never know.
10:00Last year we thought the same with one of the stages and it ended up being super tough, so we'll
10:04see.
10:04But yeah, we're also going to fight super hard for Bartzi again tomorrow.
10:07Good luck. Thank you.
10:08Thank you.
