00:02stage six of the nine stage giro d'italia women and after the big dolomite stage yesterday it
00:10offered an opportunity to the sprinters if the race could be controlled to go that way let me
00:15remind you though only one sprinter in this race so far has been winning and that's elisa balsamo
00:20much of the delight of the italian fans of course the dominant italian sprinter and her team ready
00:26to go again if they could in breccello they started out in ala in trento alte adige and rode through
00:33the
00:33veneto through lombardia and into emilia romagna beautiful stage this again in glorious sunshine
00:40and once they'd headed out through trentino they were riding 66 kilometers along the banks of lago
00:49di garda lake garda in its glorious early summer conditions this is how the breakaway formed in
00:56actual fact it was sharon spemi of top girls faso bortolo who was the first to go she was in
01:01the
01:01breakaway on the first day of course and just like on that first day where we had a sprint finish
01:06four italian riders in the break all from uci continental teams camilla bezoni sharon spemi as
01:13i'd say gaya segato and irene cadnazzo back in the peloton a little bit of a day off for the
01:20general classification riders lisa longa borghini who'd had a tough day out yesterday chasing the
01:26group of four leaders out front and limiting her losses on the day she looked relaxed back there
01:32this always should have been a day off for the general classification riders and they also would
01:37have been hoping for a sprint however there's always drama on the giro d'italia women and there
01:43was a split in the peloton too caught in the back of that split marlon russa and the european champion
01:49demi vollering too it was never an enormous gap but those who'd taken advantage of it included the
01:53likes of mobistar who were pressing on well all that chasing and the closing of gaps meant unfortunately
01:59for the breakaway before they were caught with just around about 55 kilometers to go
02:06the split was still there though and it needed to be sewn up gradually that was happening but
02:13along the way we were also starting to think about the day's only intermediate sprint point the malia rossa
02:17sprint in hospitaleto and it was elisa balsamo looking the best of them and she always would have
02:24done as well in the malia rossa adding an extra 12 points to her red jersey lead balsamo ahead of
02:32femper heritzer ninka wienerven demi vollering and anna van der breggen the race leader of course also
02:38getting involved in that for those bonus seconds all the bonus seconds though went to elisa balsamo
02:44then we saw a daring late attack with 21 kilometers to go georgia serena the italian 22 year old from
02:51team medals spec e-work went off by herself and she did a brilliant job holding off a chasing peloton
02:57for
02:58just over 10 kilometers eventually caught with about 9k to go but it was a brilliant ride
03:04by the young italian rider human powered health were really up for this as were phoenix premier
03:13tech thinking of course of charlotte the cool human powered health we already knew with two very good
03:19options in lily williams and maggie cole's lister 3k to go it was elisa longer borghini of course
03:26working for uaa adq seeing if they get that stage win for lara gillespie the italian champion who's
03:33looked so good in the sprints in this race she was tucked in well behind elisa longer borghini when
03:38you've got someone like longer borghini working for you you know you've got to make the most of it
03:41we had a crash though with about a kilometer to go as well affecting milly cousins the british road
03:46race champion and three or four other riders too going under the flam rouge it was the dutch woman
03:50lucinda brand again proving her worth for elisa balsamo she had balsamo on her wheel brand was
03:57going all the way through the final kilometer by herself the dutch woman for little trek what a
04:02valuable rider she is for balsamo she's a big part of why balsamo is going so well not everyone
04:07wanted to let balsamo have it her own way though maggie cole's lister went for it early and tried to
04:12hang
04:12on but when balsamo came past her in that malia rosa there was only ever going to be one winner
04:17and she hasn't won three stages she's now won four what a dominant performance by the outright
04:25dominant sprinter four stage wins for the former world champion elisa balsamo is loving this year's
04:33gira d'italia women day off for anna van der breggen and the other general classification riders
04:38and a transitional stage tomorrow actually for them to keep a watch on each other balsamo of course
04:45continues to lead in the malia rosa competition the red jersey competition for the points best
04:50climber is still anna van der breggen that will be worn by valentina cavala of course tomorrow the
04:56best young rider is isabella holgram who's been a revelation of this year's gira d'italia women
05:01elisa congratulations after this stage uh i think there is no one that can beat elisa balsamo in a sprint
05:08i mean when you have the best lead out in the world it's just easy i mean it's never easy
05:14but
05:14with lucinda everything is just so much easier because i don't have to fight for position
05:19i just need to trust her and i know she's the best one so i mean in most is most
05:26on air than on me
05:27honestly looking at the last kilometers we already talked this morning that was technical
05:33and today i see a lot of you know tension in the last kilometers can you tell us what happened
05:38what
05:38there was in your mind yes i think a lot of sprinters thought that it was a really good opportunity
05:44today
05:45so i could see a lot of full lead out in the last kilometers and me fleur and lucinda were
05:52just
05:52jumping and one point we found i think the perfect place behind the fenix and then this morning on the
05:58bus
05:58we said we want to take the corner at 1.3 k in the front i don't care if i'm
06:04in second position
06:05because i just want to be safe and then i can manage somehow but lucinda was just so strong that
06:11she brought me till 200 to go so it was perfect looking at this jersey the red jersey uh you're
06:18gaining more points so uh this is the main goal for the next stages i mean it could be you
06:24know kind
06:24of simple to keep it or what do you think about i mean it's never easy i need to arrive
06:29at cestria
06:30first but yesterday we did also the intermediate sprint because we really want this jersey
06:37and so now of course it's not going to be easy but i think we are in a really good
06:42position
06:43thank you grazie and now as we expect the maglia rosa is still with you how was today's race
06:50yeah today was good day i mean uh it was hard to see all the people on the beach but
06:55uh for us was
06:56working day no it's really a beautiful area to ride through and uh in the end everything's safe and
07:03everything fine so it was good day looking at the last kilometers we have seen a little bit of you
07:08know
07:08tension for uh the girls looking for the sprint and also some technical kilometers how it went the
07:14important is that you know you girls are safe and ready for tomorrow yeah i mean that's i think for
07:19the general classification right is that's that's the difficult thing like you don't want to disturb
07:24the sprint i don't want to sprint but you also don't want to lose time so that's always especially
07:29when when you have these corners in the end yeah you know it can be dangerous and there can be
07:35crashes it can be crashes so yeah you try to be in front and try to do it as safe
07:40as possible but
07:41uh yeah it's always quite hectic let's look at tomorrow because it's gonna be uh you know kind
07:48of tricky the first flat stage and then the part of the climb but um which will be the goal
07:54maybe to
07:54keep the energy for the last stages or maybe do you expect some attacks or some you know something for
08:00the gc it can be but i think if you look to the day after that uh it it's a
08:05really hard day so um for
08:07sure there will be attacks and and riders try to get in the breakaway but i think the main goal
08:12for
08:12us is yeah to to come to the finish line as safe as possible and don't lose time a bit
08:17the same as
08:17today so yeah thank you thank you isabella congratulations stealing right how was today's stage
08:23yeah today was super nice we started along the lake and yeah the views were amazing and then there was
08:29quite some wind and it was open so there were a few crosswind sections but yeah the team did a
08:34really
08:34good job to bring elisa to the line and she's just so strong and yeah she was able to pull
08:40it off
08:40again today looking at the team your team i talked before with elisa that say you have you know a
08:45kind
08:45of particular chemistry you for together with you girls this is maybe the thing that is going to make
08:52the difference and already made the difference at this zero yeah i think for sure like every everyone
08:57gives 100 every day for the goals of the day and yeah i think that's just yeah it's such a
09:04special
09:04team and i'm really proud to be a part of it looking at tomorrow's stage uh it's uh you know
09:09kind of
09:09tricky stage the first flat part and then the climb what do you expect and as a team what could
09:15be the
09:15plan yeah i think the plan will probably be to well it's always to win so yeah i think it's
09:21going to be
09:21another hard day but i'm looking forward to it thank you
09:24you
