Listen to what Femke de Vries, Nadia Gontova, Antonia Niedermaier, Silvia Persico, Lore de Schepper and Lauren Dickson have to say ahead of stage 5 of the Giro d'Italia Women 2026!

Welcome to the 37th edition of one of women’s cycling's most iconic races! After having won the race two years in a row, Longo Borghini is again the cyclist to watch. But with an additional 9th stage joining the race this year and bringing the race to a total of 1177 km, she will have many rivals chasing after her title. With none more dangerous than Demi Vollering, who after a terrific spring season, is looking to take her first Giro victory and is by many pinned as the one to beat. Or will we see a surprise winner emerge in the Dolomites in the recently returned Marlen Reusser or Anna van der Breggen? With a mix of flat sprinting races and rough climbs in the mountains ahead of us, there will be plenty of excitement ahead of the finish in Saluzzo.

00:00Hello Fem, so first of all, how is going your Giro? Are you satisfied with the TT yesterday?
00:04Yeah, I'm super happy with how it went yesterday.
00:08We made a really good pacing plan and I followed it almost perfectly.
00:13I'm super happy with how it went, I was completely dead at the finish.
00:18I'm really happy with how the Giro goes until now.
00:20Looking at today's stage, it's going to be hard with a lot of climbs, so what do you expect?
00:25Yeah, it will be the first subset of two Queen stages.
00:30I think it will be hard, especially on the local laps.
00:33It's like turning and the twisty technical descents.
00:37Yeah, so I expect it will really be the first race.
00:41Anna did a super strong ride yesterday, but behind the differences are not that big,
00:45so a lot can happen, but I'm super happy.
00:47We have a super strong climbing squad with like four girls who can really be there in the final
00:52and then we can be prepared for everything.
00:55Looking at today, do you think there will be creating more gaps in the GC?
00:59I mean, this is going to be a GC day.
01:02Definitely, 100%.
01:03Yeah, there are so many opportunities to attack and then get plateau on top of the climb
01:07and then a descent and for sure there will be changes in the GC.
01:13Nadia, first of all, it's the first Giro for you, so I would like to know your impression
01:17and also if you have learned some Italian from your teammates Mathilde.
01:22Yeah, it's super fun so far and I think yesterday we all really enjoyed the fans on the side of
01:28the road during the time trial.
01:30It was really some good motivation and maybe a couple Italian words here and there, but so far not too
01:37many.
01:37Maybe some more in the next days.
01:40Such a great TT for you yesterday. Are you happy with that? And also how will you face today's stage?
01:45Yeah, I'm really happy with my TT. I'm happy to be riding at a good level.
01:51I think it's been a bit of a hard time getting here this season, so I was super happy and
01:56I'm excited for harder stages coming up.
01:58And yeah, I think today it really suits the team and we're in a good spot for the GC, so
02:03I'm doing what I can to support the team
02:06and maybe looking for some opportunities to get up the road to be there getting over the climbs.
02:13A downhill finish, but with a lot of climbs today, where do you think there will be creating gaps in
02:20the GC?
02:21Yeah, I think the group is definitely going to get whittled down pretty early and I think ultimately the last
02:30climb is where the selection is going to be made,
02:33but I think it's going to be pretty selective from the start of the day and I think it's a
02:38good opportunity to try to get up the road to get over some climbs.
02:41Thank you so much. Good luck.
02:43First of all, Antonia, how is going your Giro so far? And we have seen you in a great shape
02:48yesterday at TT. Are you happy with that?
02:51Yeah, the Giro so far has been quite good for me, for sure. I already had some bad luck with
02:55the flat tire on stage 3, but the TT yesterday was really nice.
03:00It was really hard and I really enjoyed it.
03:03Looking at Tuesday's stage with a lot of climbs, you could be one of the favorites, so what's your plan
03:08in order to face it?
03:09Yeah, it's a super hard stage today. I reconned it and I have to say it's like one of the
03:14hardest stages for sure.
03:16I expect a hard race and a lot of attacks, so I just try to follow and I think there
03:23will be a small group in the last lap.
03:25So yeah, maybe we can try something there.
03:28Looking at the GC today is a very important day in order to create the gaps. Where do you expect
03:34it's going to be more hard for maybe other teams?
03:37I think it will be hard the whole stage, so I think there will be no easy part, but for
03:42sure on the lap it's also really technical.
03:45So for sure there are a lot of key points.
03:48Thank you. Good luck.
03:48Silvia, first of all, how are you? How is going your Giro? We expect fireworks from today's stage.
03:54Yeah, I'm happy. I'm really happy to be here. And yeah, today is the real Giro. The first stages were
04:01a bit flat. So yeah, today it's the first stage. The first real stage after the TT of yesterday.
04:08So we will see, of course, it will be fireworks and not only from our part.
04:15Looking at the GC today, it will be important to reduce the gaps of Elisa. So what's the plan as
04:20a team?
04:20Yeah, we don't know. We will see on the road, but of course Giro is not finished yet. Yesterday she
04:27took some time, but big climbs are coming in the last days.
04:34How will it be important to face also the downhill finish? Because we expect some technical climbs, but after that,
04:40yeah, there will be a downhill finish.
04:42Yeah, it's a downhill finish, but first of all, you need to be on the top with the first group.
04:49So we will see. But today it will be a hard and tough stage. Thank you. Good luck.
04:55How are you? How are you happy with your TT yesterday and how it's going the Giro so far?
05:00Yeah, I'm good. I'm happy with yesterday and I'm excited for what's coming. And yeah.
05:05Looking at today's stage, another hard stage with several climbs. So what's your plan in order to face this hard
05:11stage?
05:11It's a really hard stage. We did a recon of it and it's crazy actually. But yeah, I think we
05:18have to survive today and try to be in the first group with the GC riders.
05:22And then that would already be a nice achievement. In order to create more gaps in the GC, where do
05:29you think the climb will make the difference?
05:31I think in the lap the most difference will be made. It's quite steep and punchy. And yeah, I think
05:40there a lot of attacks will be going and it will be attentive racing.
05:43Thank you. First of all, Lauren, how are you? How is going the Giro so far? Are you happy with
05:48your performance yesterday at TT?
05:50Yeah, I'm really happy. I'm really loving the Giro. It's my first ever Grand Tour and to come with this
05:56team is really an honour.
05:57And thankfully my legs have turned up as well. So, so far so good.
06:01Looking at today's stage, it's going to be so hard for the climbs. What's your plan in order to face
06:06them?
06:08I mean, yeah, it's going to be a really tough day. I think just absolutely give it our everything. When
06:13you're suffering, you know, everybody else is probably suffering too. So, you're not the only one.
06:19Could we maybe expect an attack from you to handle the Braggen in order, you know, to make pressure?
06:24You'll have to wait and see what happens. Hopefully you'll see us on the TV quite a lot. Thank you.
07:10We'll see you next time.
07:23We'll see you next time.
07:40We'll see you next time.
