04:02And we can do it
04:14And I'm still here
04:17Everybody can do it
04:22Yes. I was wondering if you knew anything about rhinos.
04:25I was hoping to tell the children a story about one.
04:28Oh, a rhino story.
04:31Well, as you know, I've travelled all round the world from Turkey to Timbuktu.
04:35But you know, I've never seen a real live rhino.
04:40I don't think I've ever heard a story about one either, come to think of it.
04:43Oh, that's a shame.
04:45But I could tell you a story about another animal.
04:47Oh, brilliant.
04:48Something very long and thin that slithers along the ground.
04:54Long and thin and slithers along the ground.
04:58What could it be?
05:00A snake, of course.
05:02Oh, a snake. How exciting.
05:05Oh, yes. I could tell you a story about a snake.
05:09In fact, I think they are some of my favourite animals,
05:12with their lovely colourful patterns zigzagging and looping the loop around their bodies.
05:17I bet the children would just love to hear a story about a snake.
05:20Oh, well, that's great because I have a wonderful story about a little snake that I met in Africa.
05:27That would be fantastic.
05:29Well, do you know, it would be good if we had a snake to be able to tell the story
05:34with.
05:35Sorry, Edie. We've got rhinos, teddy bears, all sorts of toy animals, but no snakes.
05:41Well, why don't I go and ask Archie to make us one?
05:45Make us a toy snake? Do you think he could?
05:47Oh, Archie can make anything. That's what inventors do best, don't they?
05:51Well, what are we waiting for?
05:53I'll pop over and see him right now.
05:55Great.
06:00So, I wonder which coloured house Edie will visit first today?
06:11Can you see all the different coloured houses sitting by the sea?
06:16Well, this part of the story in Balamore asks, Which is the house for me?
06:23Is it pink? Is it blue? Which coloured house are we going to?
06:29Yellow, green house, orange or red? Or should we go to the white house instead?
06:34Orange house, green house, red house or white?
06:40Pink house, yellow, blue? Which coloured house are we going to?
06:51Which coloured house are we going to? Tell me what do you think?
06:57Which coloured house are we going to? Tell me what do you think?
07:05Yes, it's the pink house because that's where Archie lives.
07:12Oh, strange.
07:18The chair should move forward when I press the remote control.
07:26Oh, fiddlesticks.
07:30Oh, hello, Archie. Oh, did I disturb you?
07:32No, no, I was just busy making an invention which, um, doesn't work. Have a seat.
07:37Oh! Oh, I think I've broken something.
07:40Oh, no, not at all. I think you've fixed it.
07:42Oh, great. Well, perhaps you could fix something for Miss Hooley and me.
07:47What exactly?
07:48A snake.
07:49A snake?
07:50Yes, I want to use it to help tell the children a story at the nursery.
07:54Oh, do you think you could rustle us up a lovely, stripey snake?
07:59Oh, yes.
08:00Uh, now, for a snake, we need something as long and bendy.
08:05Uh, well, these cardboard rolls would be excellent if we strung them together.
08:09Or a sock.
08:11A sock?
08:12Hmm. Socks make excellent snakes.
08:16Oh, it does look a little bit like a snake.
08:18Of course, real snakes are longer than this, so we need to.
08:24Ah-ha!
08:25What's up?
08:26Well, I'll need a little help.
08:28I need to rip up the newspaper and scrunch it up to fill the sock.
08:33Oh, right, right.
08:36Right there.
09:02I'm Sammy the snake.
09:05How do I look?
09:06Oh, fantastic, Archie.
09:08Oh, it just looks like a real snake.
09:11It's very long.
09:13Put a hand out with it to the car.
09:14Oh, that would be smashy.
09:19Smashy.
09:22Oh, dear.
09:25Now, steady it.
09:27Now, come on.
09:27Just as Sammy is all over the shop.
09:29It's a real snake, huh?
09:31Oh, dear.
09:31Oh, there he is.
09:32Now, stay where you are.
09:34Right, Archie.
09:54So, Edie, did you see Archie?
09:56Yes, and he's made us the most beautiful snake you've ever seen.
09:59Just wait till you see this.
10:04Oh!
10:05Oh, no!
10:06What is it?
10:07Oh, I must have left the door of the bus open
10:10and the snake has fallen out when I was driving along.
10:13Oh, what are we going to do?
10:16Have we got time to make another one?
10:18Oh, I don't think Archie has enough socks.
10:20Oh, no.
10:21I've already told the children about the snake.
10:24They're looking forward to seeing it now.
10:26What are we going to do?
10:28Well, there's only one thing for it.
10:30Call the police.
10:31You're right.
10:32If anyone can find a lost snake, it'll be PC Plum.
10:41I'm PC Plum and I'll tell you what I've done.
10:44I've peddled round this island more than once or twice.
10:49And if you call on me, we can make a cup of tea.
10:53I'll tell you all about the bees and birds and mice.
11:01I'm PC Plum and I'll tell you who I am.
11:05I'm your policeman and I'll always be your chum.
11:09With my magnifying glass, I can look between the grass
11:13and all the tiny beasties, we look at them run.
11:19You can bet you'll see me a-comin'.
11:23On my bike, I'm ridin' round the town.
11:28In the country, I check on all the wildlife,
11:32the people, trees and animals.
11:34I keep them safe and sound, safe and sound.
11:41P.C. Plum, I'm just a chicken.
11:56P.C. Plum, I love the country.
12:00P.C. Plum, be careful crossing.
12:04P.C. Plum, I found your doggy.
12:09P.C. Plum, here's your handbag.
12:14P.C. Plum.
12:29P.C. Plum, I found your doggy.
12:30P.C. Plum, I found your doggy.
12:32P.C. Plum, I found your doggy.
12:33P.C. Plum, I found your doggy.
12:39P.C. Plum, I found your doggy.
12:41P.C. Plum, I found your doggy.
12:44P.C. Plum, I found your doggy.
12:45She found a toy rhino in her cupboard and wanted me to tell the children a story about him.
12:51But I said I wanted to tell them a story about a snake instead.
12:56Miss Hooley thought it would be nice to show the children what a snake looks like.
13:01So I decided to ask Archie to make us a snake.
13:05Archie used socks and newspaper to make a big, stripy snake in no time.
13:12But it must have slithered out of the bus as I drove it to the nursery.
13:20And now it's nearly story time and we don't know where the snake is.
13:26I know. I'll head back down the road towards Archie's and see if I can find it. Bye!
13:37Aha!
13:40What's this?
13:43Soggy socks.
13:54PC Plum should have been back ages ago.
13:57Looks like we're not going to have our snake to show the children after all.
14:04Plummy!
14:05I knew he wouldn't let us down.
14:08PC Plum, have you found our snake?
14:10Oh, well, I'm afraid there's nothing left of Archie's snakes, but just a few old soggy socks.
14:16Oh, no!
14:17The children would be so disappointed not to see a snake.
14:20Oh, what are we going to do now?
14:22Ah, well, I have an idea.
14:23What is it?
14:24I know where we can get a hold of some real snakes.
14:27Africa?
14:27Oh, no, no, no, a bit closer than Africa, my Suley.
14:31How close?
14:32I have a friend who goes round schools and shows children real snakes and animals.
14:36I've called him up and he'll be here any moment.
14:38Come on.
14:41We've got someone coming right now to show us a snake.
14:46And his name's Adrian.
14:49So we all say hello to him.
14:50He is here.
14:52Hello.
14:52Hello.
14:53Hello, Adrian.
14:54Hello.
14:54Come round to you.
14:55Come round to you.
14:55That's it here.
14:56Yes.
14:57You're looking forward to seeing the snake?
14:59Yes.
14:59Yes.
15:00That's good.
15:01Will we be able to touch the snake, Adrian?
15:03You will.
15:04Oh, you're going to have the opportunity today to touch the snake.
15:08Ah, look.
15:11Now, this is Coco.
15:14Hello.
15:15That's right.
15:16There we are.
15:16Now, can you see Coco sticking his tongue out?
15:19Can I see?
15:20Now, he's sticking his tongue out because he's smelling the air.
15:25Well done.
15:25You're very clever.
15:26You are.
15:28I'm going to come round and if you want, you can give him a little stroke.
15:31You can see what he feels like.
15:34Remember only if you want to, he is.
15:36Yes, that's right.
15:38So, here we are.
15:39Want a stroke Coco?
15:41That's it.
15:41Well done.
15:43Now, a lot of people think snakes are very wet and slimy and they're not very dry and very smooth.
15:49That's okay.
15:50I love them.
15:51Do you like that?
15:52Is that very nice?
15:53What does it feel like?
15:54Sean, what does it feel like to touch?
15:57You tell us.
15:57Is it really soft, isn't it?
15:59That's right.
16:00Are you having a touch lately?
16:02Well done.
16:04Well done.
16:05I want to lift them.
16:07Yeah?
16:07I want to lift them.
16:08Right, well what to do is put your hands like I'm putting mine.
16:11You see how I'm putting my hands?
16:12Right.
16:13Now, remember when I put it on your hands, you're not to squeeze because if you squeeze them,
16:16you might hurt them.
16:17Yeah, don't give my hands a bite.
16:17It's very important to keep your hands open.
16:19There we are.
16:20Oh, look at that.
16:21You make a very good branch of a tree.
16:23You're all right.
16:24Don't you?
16:24There we are.
16:26There you go.
16:28Fantastic.
16:29Isn't that okay?
16:29Well done.
16:30You're all doing well.
16:32Just very, very quickly before I put Coco away, what I'm going to do, are you watching?
16:36Yeah.
16:37All right.
16:38Look, look.
16:39Oh.
16:41Look at that.
16:42Look how strong he is to pull himself up.
16:45Yes.
16:45Adrian's got to take the animals by now so they can have a rest like you get a rest, don't
16:49Well, do you know, I would like to, I would like to thank you all very much for having me
16:52here today.
16:53I've had a wonderful time.
16:55Thank you, Adrian.
17:00So, what was the story in Ballamory today?
17:04It all started when Edie called into the nursery this morning.
17:12I asked her if she could tell the children a story.
17:15She thought of a story about a snake she'd seen on her trip to Africa.
17:19We wanted to show the children what a snake looked like, so Edie asked Archie to help.
17:25He made a snake out of socks stuffed with newspaper.
17:28It was a real beauty.
17:32On the journey over here, the snake slithered out of the bus.
17:36We called on PC Plum to search for the missing snake, but all he found was some soggy socks.
17:44PC Plum had another idea.
17:46He arranged for his friend, an animal expert, to bring a real snake into the nursery.
17:55So, that was the story in Ballamory.
18:05I'll see you next time.
18:07Bye.
18:14Bye.
18:18Ballamory.
