Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters AU - Season 1 Episode 1
Transcript
00:00:13Everybody's got a fear of sharks. Sharks are the enemy.
00:00:20The community is on edge this morning after man was killed by great white shark at a popular
00:00:26Gold Coast Beach. Attacked at Manly Beach. Pulled from the water unconscious.
00:00:31Two people are fighting for life in hospital after being mauled by a suspected bull shark.
00:00:37Stay out of the water. That's the urgent warning after four shark attacks in 48 hours.
00:00:45They are apex predators. They are big, they are powerful, but we can actually coexist with them.
00:00:52And we hope that your fear will turn into fascination and respect.
00:01:00I'm absolutely petrified. Petrified.
00:01:04You do a film, you just know you're never in harm's way. It's just a movie. This I'm scared.
00:01:10The Bahamas is the shark capital of the world. We are in their backyard.
00:01:16I'm aware that I might not come back in one piece. Bloody shark right there.
00:01:23So what are we doing? We're not getting in the water, are we?
00:01:27I know a little bit about surviving a shark attack. The more I learned, the more I realized how little
00:01:33we have to fear from them and how much they have to fear from us.
00:01:36It just was all a bit too much. We're going to be here to support you the whole way through.
00:01:44You need to listen. You need to pay attention and follow our instructions so that you stay safe.
00:01:50Panic will kill you just as fast as a shark. If that's like a past fell thing, then I definitely
00:01:55failed.
00:01:56Tell me we're going to have to afford the dog.
00:02:02Each shark encounter is going to escalate in danger. Bull sharks, Caribbean reef sharks, hammerheads.
00:02:09To get you to the ultimate goal of diving with tiger sharks.
00:02:15The hammer is quite under, guys. I can see it.
00:02:17We've got to have rocks in our bloody heads, Scott. Do you have any concerns?
00:02:21My only concern is whether or not I can get the wetsuit on and that's kind of it.
00:02:28Oh my God! This is not normal to feel that scared.
00:02:32There's a significant chance some of these guys won't make it to the angle.
00:02:36We're going to get you some oxygen. We've had to medically evacuate her for treatment.
00:02:42I'm not sure exactly what's going on. I'm not doing any until she's all right, I'm not speaking.
00:02:47Yeah. After my divorce, I lost a lot of confidence in myself.
00:02:54I want to show my kids. You can go through something difficult and you can still do incredible things.
00:03:00Oh, sorry.
00:03:04I lost my brother not that long ago and when I went down with those reef sharks, I felt it.
00:03:12I knew you were scared.
00:03:15Mwah! It's like I'd won Olympic gold.
00:03:17Shark!
00:03:18Yeah!
00:03:19They've been so demonized. They're seen as this monster and I didn't see that at all.
00:03:25Wow, wait.
00:03:26It was actually really emotional. It was fantastic. It was fantastic. It was just amazing.
00:03:34The Bahamas has changed me and I do have a great respect for sharks now.
00:03:47The Bahamas is a country composed of over 3,000 islands in the Atlantic Ocean.
00:03:55Since 2011, it has been a protected safe haven for sharks, allowing populations to thrive.
00:04:04Bhimini Island in the west is known as the shark capital of the world.
00:04:08And there's no better place to confront and hopefully overcome the fear of these apex predators.
00:04:30Every little shadow, I'm like, is that a shark?
00:04:33When people say they're scared of sharks, yeah, they're scared of sharks, but mine's actual phobia.
00:04:38It's my biggest fear in life.
00:04:40My name is Ariane Titmuss. I'm an Olympic swimmer.
00:04:44I have eight Olympic medals, four of them gold.
00:04:47I love being in the pool, but I don't really go on the beach where I can't touch.
00:04:53Each time there's a shark attack, it makes me, like, sit into my fear even more, saying to myself,
00:04:57yeah, I've made the right decision not to like the ocean.
00:05:00All these shadows here, girls. Come on.
00:05:03Oh, my God!
00:05:07Look, just here.
00:05:08Oh, my God!
00:05:13Coming from an Australian culture where we absolutely love the ocean,
00:05:16I definitely think there needs to be a fear of sharks, but a huge respect for them as well.
00:05:23My name is Sam Fido.
00:05:25People may know me as an ex-rugby league player.
00:05:29I played 16 seasons with the Brisbane Broncos.
00:05:32As long as they shut their mouths, I'm happy to jump in the water with these sharks.
00:05:37No smiling at me sharks, please.
00:06:08I'm Matt Nable.
00:06:09I'm Matt Nable for my social media presence. I have about 20 million followers online.
00:06:15Made it.
00:06:16Yeah!
00:06:17We made it. Let's see how long we last.
00:06:20I've always had a fascination with sharks.
00:06:23Go, go, go. You ready?
00:06:25I love the ocean.
00:06:26I just feel like I'm, I was a mermaid in another life.
00:06:30I like, like, getting scared, if you know what I mean.
00:06:34Like, I like that.
00:06:34You like the adrenaline.
00:06:35Yeah, it's exciting.
00:06:37I've been diving with sharks before.
00:06:39I'm really interested in anything that, you know, makes me afraid.
00:06:42I love it.
00:06:43Is that like a red flag?
00:06:45I think I'm more afraid of not being able to breathe properly underwater.
00:06:50Oh, the scuba side of things.
00:06:51Yeah, the scuba side.
00:06:52My name's Lynne McGranger.
00:06:54Probably best known for playing Irene Roberts on a little show called Home and Away.
00:07:00It's not the shark thing that bothers me so much.
00:07:05It's the scuba diving.
00:07:07I'm not great for gadgets, so anyway, watch this space.
00:07:11You know, I'm that person that answers the phone by picking up the remote control.
00:07:18It's not working.
00:07:20Hello?
00:07:22Guys, we're stranded here now.
00:07:24Oh, he's going.
00:07:25We are stuck here.
00:07:27Come back.
00:07:29I mean, he really is seriously going.
00:07:31Yeah.
00:07:32Bye.
00:07:32Does anyone know what's supposed to happen now?
00:07:35This is ridiculous.
00:07:46My name's Paul DeGelder.
00:07:47I think I'm best known in Australia for being that navy guy that got attacked by a bull shark in
00:07:54Sydney Harbour.
00:07:55Now I want to change people's perception of sharks.
00:07:58I want to show them how amazing they are, how beautiful they are, how we can actually coexist with them.
00:08:07My name's Annie Guttridge.
00:08:09I'm an underwater photographer, shark conservationist, and president of a marine nonprofit.
00:08:14I think the work I do is really meaningful.
00:08:16You know, sharks are depleted by one-third globally.
00:08:19They're in a lot of trouble.
00:08:21Sharks were here over 400 million years ago.
00:08:24They were here before the dinosaurs.
00:08:25They were here before trees.
00:08:27They've been here long before us, so I feel like if anyone has a right to this world, it's them.
00:08:35What's better, this beach or summer bay?
00:08:37Oh, this beach.
00:08:39Wait, look at this.
00:08:40Hey, I reckon they might be.
00:08:42I think these might be our guys.
00:08:44Save us.
00:08:45They've left us here.
00:08:47We're stranded.
00:08:50Pretty cool entrance.
00:08:52Oh, I love it.
00:08:53So cool.
00:08:55Woo!
00:08:57Yay!
00:08:59Get down to business.
00:09:01Careful, there might be sharks.
00:09:04I'd be disappointed if there wasn't.
00:09:07All right, celebs, welcome to the Bahamas.
00:09:10This is the shark capital of the world.
00:09:12I've worked here for many years with these sharks.
00:09:15My name is Paul DeGelder.
00:09:16Hi, Paul.
00:09:17Hi, Paul.
00:09:18Nice to meet you.
00:09:18There you go.
00:09:19My name's Annie Guttridge.
00:09:20I'm a shark conservationist, and I've spent the last 14 years
00:09:24researching these incredible apex predators.
00:09:27Hi, Annie.
00:09:28Hi.
00:09:28I can see you all taking a little glimpse at my enhancements.
00:09:32Yes, it was a shark.
00:09:34So I served in the Navy, and I was a bomb disposal diver
00:09:37known as a clearance diver.
00:09:38Wow.
00:09:39And in 2009, I was conducting a counter-terrorism exercise
00:09:42right in the heart of Sydney Harbour,
00:09:44and a three-meter bull shark attacked me,
00:09:48ripped off my hand, took my leg,
00:09:51and that shark attack changed my life forever.
00:09:54Now, previous to the shark attack, I actually hated sharks.
00:09:58I didn't understand them.
00:09:59I didn't know their purpose.
00:10:00I figured if we just killed them all, then we could swim in the ocean and be safe.
00:10:05It wasn't until I started to learn about sharks that the more I learned, the more I realized how little
00:10:10we have to fear from them and how much they have to fear from us.
00:10:14If a shark came into my living room, I'd get upset.
00:10:17I'd be like, what are you doing in my space? Get out. Same deal.
00:10:24I go into the ocean. It's their grounds. It's their living room.
00:10:30So I believe in conservation.
00:10:33You're all here in the Bahamas for your own individual reasons.
00:10:36Hopefully, all of you will leave with a changed perception of these beautiful, majestic predators.
00:10:43Maddy, how afraid of sharks are you?
00:10:46Afraid, afraid. Yeah, yeah. Probably an irrational fear.
00:10:50I mean, when I was a young fellow, I surfed a lot and it really didn't bother me.
00:10:53Since I became an adult, I think it's exacerbated over time.
00:10:58It's a real fear. Like, I'm not swimming out 150 metres at any beach.
00:11:03Ariane, what are you most fearful of?
00:11:05I'm fearful of getting bitten. Sharks are my biggest fear, like proper biggest fear.
00:11:11I've never been in the ocean, um, really. Like, when I go to the beach, I don't go past my
00:11:15knees.
00:11:16I just prefer being on land where I feel safe. Yeah, I feel very apprehensive.
00:11:22I've really come here because I think I have to literally be completely out of my comfort zone to conquer
00:11:30that fear.
00:11:31Over the next couple of weeks, you're going to come face to jaws with some of the world's most feared
00:11:38predators.
00:11:39Each shark encounter is going to escalate in danger until you face the final challenge.
00:11:46Diving with tiger sharks without the protection of a cage.
00:11:50Wow. Like, I grew up hearing about tiger shark attacks and I've always considered them one of the most dangerous
00:11:57predators.
00:11:58But I don't know, maybe here in the Bahamas they're a little bit chill. I'm hoping they are.
00:12:04Celebrities, first up, how to survive a shark attack.
00:12:08Now, this is something that I have an intimate knowledge of.
00:12:12And I don't want you to go through what I went through.
00:12:16Your hand ripped off, your leg destroyed, swimming back to your safety boat through a pool of your own blood.
00:12:23Thinking that any second you're going to die.
00:12:28So we'll see you, Doc.
00:12:32You're going to leave us with that.
00:12:33Good grief.
00:12:35Oh my goodness.
00:12:36Tiger sharks.
00:12:37Tiger sharks.
00:12:39You're right, it's going to go start off.
00:12:41It's going to escalate.
00:12:42Escalate as we go.
00:12:43Two weeks of it.
00:12:44But that's good, you'll like build up the tolerance.
00:12:47I know, but now we know.
00:12:49What if you're getting scared with the baby one?
00:12:50You said you wanted to know though.
00:12:52Yeah.
00:12:52You've got to go.
00:12:53I think you've just got to do it a day to time.
00:12:55One thing, one thing, one thing.
00:12:58Just be in the present.
00:13:00Deal with what you've got in front of you now.
00:13:02Don't think about tomorrow.
00:13:04It's very real now.
00:13:05Like there's no, I can't leave.
00:13:07It's happening.
00:13:08So, yeah.
00:13:23Oh my God, look.
00:13:26There's the fins.
00:13:27Oh my God.
00:13:30Oh, they're already freaking out.
00:13:34I don't want to have to do anything.
00:13:36No, no, no.
00:13:37It's okay.
00:13:38You'll be fine, honey.
00:13:40How you doing, guys?
00:13:41Hey.
00:13:42Welcome.
00:13:43Wow.
00:13:43Welcome to Bimini's Bull Sharks.
00:13:47Look at the size of that thing.
00:13:48Holy hell.
00:13:49Look at that.
00:13:49Oh my gosh.
00:13:52Oh my God.
00:13:55I have this big fear that I've never actually seen a shark this close.
00:13:59So to actually see them beneath me was intimidating.
00:14:06Right, well, celebrities, it's time to prepare for shark attack training.
00:14:11Over the next few weeks, you will be swimming and hopefully diving with hundreds of sharks.
00:14:17So you need to know what to do if something goes wrong.
00:14:23Each year, more than 16 million Australians swim in the ocean.
00:14:27Of all the deadly, fatal shark bites in 2023, nearly half occurred in Australian waters.
00:15:04Wow.
00:15:04Wow.
00:15:04That's right.
00:15:05You want to get out of the water as fast as you can, but as calmly as you can.
00:15:08Creating a panic, creating a thrashing motion in the water is only going to draw
00:15:13that shark in and probably a lot more.
00:15:17Panic will kill you just as fast as a shark.
00:15:20I have a question.
00:15:21If you're more anxious in there, like, can sharks sense that?
00:15:27Yes, they definitely can.
00:15:30Sharks, they have the five senses that we have.
00:15:33They have two additional senses.
00:15:35One that detects electrical fields, and they also have something called a lateral line that runs
00:15:39through their body and up through their tail, and that detects water pressure changes.
00:15:43So yes, in terms of heart rate, every living thing puts off an electrical field,
00:15:48and they can definitely sense increasing amounts of that.
00:15:54It's a lot to take in.
00:15:55They're really, really big animals, and this is something that we've been brought up to fear.
00:16:01I just need you to be brave.
00:16:02Deep breath.
00:16:04It's okay to be intimidating.
00:16:06They're an intimidating species.
00:16:08Yep.
00:16:09Just seeing the animals right beneath me on a PR where there's no railing,
00:16:16and I almost had these, like, visions of myself falling in.
00:16:20It just was all a bit too much.
00:16:22All right, we're going to show you exactly what it's like to get attacked by a shark.
00:16:26Let's get the dummy ready.
00:16:28What?
00:16:31Oh, no!
00:16:33All right, here we go.
00:16:34So we've got this dummy.
00:16:35He's ecological friendly.
00:16:36He's not going to poison the sharks.
00:16:37He's not going to pollute the water.
00:16:44Oh!
00:16:45Oh!
00:16:50That was a bad one.
00:16:53Oh!
00:16:54Bruce!
00:16:56Oh, mate.
00:16:59Oh!
00:17:02Oh!
00:17:08Oh!
00:17:09This exercise was designed to show you the worst-case scenario.
00:17:13Yeah, that was it.
00:17:14That... that... what happened there?
00:17:16That's... someone's dead?
00:17:18Absolutely. Oh, God.
00:17:21Really, really...
00:17:22..confronting just to see how fast that all happened.
00:17:24It was over in a matter of seconds.
00:17:28We're gonna be here to support you the whole way through.
00:17:30We love these sharks.
00:17:32We want to protect all the sharks,
00:17:34but we also want you to go on this journey with us.
00:17:36So find some comfort in knowing that we really are here for you.
00:17:40Oh, good grief. I was not expecting anything like that.
00:17:44But you know what? I feel like I've been a little on the...
00:17:47Oh, well, hey-ho, I'll be fine.
00:17:50So it was a good wake-up call.
00:17:52Right, celebrities, it's been a long journey to get here,
00:17:55get some much-needed rest,
00:17:57because tomorrow you will be in the water with these very bull sharks.
00:18:01With these? These ones?
00:18:03These very sharks.
00:18:04Wow.
00:18:06All right, team, get some rest.
00:18:08Okay.
00:18:09It's gonna be a big day. We'll see you tomorrow.
00:18:11Oh, yeah. Thank you. Enjoy.
00:18:13See you later.
00:18:15Yeah, that was really a lot. That was intense.
00:18:18Aw.
00:18:19Yeah, hard not to see something like that and not...
00:18:22..not have it, um, replay in your mind.
00:18:26What if you can't stay calm? Yeah.
00:18:28Personally, I think there will be enough people around us...
00:18:32Yeah.
00:18:32..to, you know, there will be safety contingencies.
00:18:35Of course there's a risk,
00:18:37but there's a risk every time you cross the road.
00:18:39Now, I guess, with the others, we have this little team,
00:18:41and I really don't want to let the team down,
00:18:43and I'm petrified that when I see the sharks in the water,
00:18:47but I'm not going to be able to get in.
00:18:55Coming up...
00:18:56How are you really feeling?
00:18:57I'm nervous.
00:18:58You should be nervous. Like, they're a serious animal.
00:19:01I'm scared.
00:19:02Sharks are a real fear,
00:19:03and I don't want to be in the water when they're there.
00:19:08Oh, my God!
00:19:12No, no, don't.
00:19:14Do they do put me away? Please, please, please.
00:19:16Then don't panic. I've got you in my arms.
00:19:19Oh, shit!
00:19:20We're going to have to afford the dive.
00:19:21Looks like they're calling off the dive.
00:19:23I wonder why they didn't stay down very long.
00:19:25Is she all right?
00:19:48Are you nervous?
00:19:50Yeah, I'm nervous. Very nervous.
00:19:53Out of the group of us, most definitely the two,
00:19:55who have got a real fear are both Ariane and I.
00:19:59How did you feel about yesterday?
00:20:02Oh, I probably wasn't expecting that.
00:20:05No, it was pretty for long, wasn't it?
00:20:06Like, I was really shocked by how big those sharks were yesterday
00:20:11and just how muscular and powerful they were.
00:20:14Yeah. It all became very real.
00:20:17I don't know really where my fear came from.
00:20:19It's actually a whole culmination of not just sharks
00:20:23but the entire ocean.
00:20:24Like, I'm afraid of the animals and what they're going to do to me.
00:20:28I just don't understand how we're supposed to get in the water with them.
00:20:31And also, I just, I hate the unknown.
00:20:34If I could have 1% of Tammy's excitement.
00:20:37Yeah.
00:20:38You know, I think that would really help me.
00:20:40Because I'm trying to think of this in a positive way.
00:20:42I'm trying not to take this experience for granted.
00:20:44To be honest, I'm actually quite a calm person.
00:20:47I feel like I'm really good at sitting into a moment and loving high pressure situations.
00:20:53That's why I've been able to perform on the world stage my whole life.
00:20:56But this is totally different because there's so many variables here that aren't up to me.
00:21:02The only way I can sort of approach this is just a day at a time.
00:21:05Yeah.
00:21:06One activity at a time and see how the experience is.
00:21:10And then maybe I get something out of this that, you know, makes me want to maybe come back and
00:21:16keep doing it.
00:21:17No, I just don't know.
00:21:18Though I'm afraid of sharks, I also see great beauty in these creatures, you know.
00:21:22And hopefully, by doing this, I might quell the irrational fear.
00:21:28What won't be good is if someone gets nipped.
00:21:31It's not good TV if one of us gets eaten.
00:21:43It was a couple of times I woke up last night overthinking with thoughts of today.
00:21:48We're getting our first little taste of what's it like to be in the water with sharks so close.
00:21:55Welcome back.
00:21:57They look so happy.
00:21:59You look really good, guys.
00:22:01You look like professionals.
00:22:03I'm honestly surprised you all turned up.
00:22:05We're surprised, too.
00:22:05But we have no choice.
00:22:07Let's do this.
00:22:10So, Matt, how are you feeling about today?
00:22:13Uh, nervous.
00:22:14I don't want to go first.
00:22:15Um, please don't put me first.
00:22:18Just seeing the sharks yesterday and seeing the mannequin just sort of getting pulled under very, very quickly, yeah, yeah.
00:22:24So, yeah, there's a lot to process, so, yeah.
00:22:26There is.
00:22:27Yeah, it's definitely a process.
00:22:29Lynn, I know you've said you're not the strongest of swimmers.
00:22:32I was just wondering how you're feeling about today.
00:22:33I am feeling, uh, a little apprehensive, and my nervous belly is not happy.
00:22:39I'm here to tell you.
00:22:40I had some issues.
00:22:44I'm sure everyone wants to hear about that.
00:22:47Too much information, Lynn?
00:22:48Yeah, I know.
00:22:49But anywho, oh, look, shiny thing.
00:22:52Well, very soon, you're going to be getting into the water with the very same bull sharks you saw yesterday.
00:22:58Oh.
00:22:59And you saw what those sharks did to our handsome dummy.
00:23:03Absolutely shredded to pieces.
00:23:06There's not a chance you're going to survive something like that.
00:23:09It's a pretty grim reminder of what could happen.
00:23:12Watching Paul hold up the wetsuit, the adrenaline is definitely pumping.
00:23:18I feel like the closer and closer it gets to, like, the actual moment,
00:23:23they're just more the nerves, like, build and build.
00:23:26So, there are more than a dozen adult bull sharks right now.
00:23:32These are some of the most feared sharks on the planet.
00:23:35They weigh around 250 kilograms and have over 300 razor shark teeth.
00:23:42Oh, jeez.
00:23:43They have a bite force stronger than a white shark, coming in at about 600 kilograms.
00:23:49More than a white shark.
00:23:50It is more than a white shark.
00:23:52300 teeth.
00:23:5412?
00:23:55Sharks is a lot.
00:23:56More than a dozen.
00:23:57Like, that's a lot of sharks.
00:23:58There's still time.
00:23:59I've been here when we've had 25, so...
00:24:02Don't rule anything out.
00:24:04So, after everything you've just learned about bull sharks,
00:24:08for this time and this time only,
00:24:10you will be diving with the protection of a cage.
00:24:13Bull sharks are the worst.
00:24:15I mean, I'm scared of all that.
00:24:16I'm scared of the stingrays, too.
00:24:17I'm scared of everything.
00:24:18And this is the only one with a cage,
00:24:19so I hate to think, God help me, like, when they're not in a cage.
00:24:23Are they going to, like, have a go at the cage?
00:24:25Yeah, honestly, it's really hard to say.
00:24:27I want to say no, but there's always exceptions.
00:24:31You know, a few years ago in Guadalupe,
00:24:34multiple sharks did get into the cage.
00:24:37So, no, you can't honestly rule any scenarios out.
00:24:40So, that's why we're going to be in there.
00:24:42You know, you're not going to be on your own.
00:24:43You know, we're at the hands of some wild animals here.
00:24:47We know and understand that we are going to be looked after,
00:24:50but it still doesn't make it less scary.
00:24:52You've seen what a bull shark did to me.
00:24:54Jeez.
00:24:55I don't want this to happen to you.
00:24:56So, there are a few safety precautions that we're going to give you
00:25:00to make sure that you remain safe throughout the whole dive.
00:25:04The main one is keep your arms and legs inside the ride.
00:25:08Anything you present outside that cage,
00:25:10the bull sharks will identify as food.
00:25:13There's a bar inside.
00:25:14That is the only place you should put your hands.
00:25:17And you learnt this one yesterday.
00:25:19Remain calm.
00:25:20Don't panic.
00:25:22Breathe, relax, enjoy the experience.
00:25:24That's what we want you to do.
00:25:26We do need to assess you around sharks.
00:25:29Who's going to panic?
00:25:31Who's going to stay calm?
00:25:32And exactly how much training do we need to give you?
00:25:35That's what today is all about.
00:25:38The first diver in the cage.
00:25:46My man, Matty.
00:25:48Come on, Matty.
00:25:50Come on, Matty.
00:25:53Come on, Matty.
00:25:54Come on.
00:25:56Come on.
00:25:57Come on, Matty.
00:25:59Come on.
00:26:00Like, why am I doing this?
00:26:01You know?
00:26:02There's that.
00:26:02There's that.
00:26:04I shouldn't have put myself in this position.
00:26:07You won the raffle.
00:26:08People wore a raffle, honey.
00:26:09You won the first prize.
00:26:09You just won the meat tray.
00:26:11You won the meat tray.
00:26:12Woo!
00:26:12You're the meat tray.
00:26:15Oh, oops.
00:26:17I'm aware that this could go wrong,
00:26:18not from a shark point of view,
00:26:20but just from, you know, from a scuba point of view,
00:26:22from being under the water.
00:26:24Yeah, which is also part of the anxiety.
00:26:26You know, you're dealing with all this shit on you,
00:26:28and then the shark.
00:26:38Good luck, mate.
00:26:39We've been told white sharks, bull sharks, tiger sharks
00:26:42are responsible for most of the attacks on human beings,
00:26:45so apprehensive.
00:26:46Like, really apprehensive.
00:26:47Oh, my God.
00:26:48Look at the fish.
00:26:49They're throwing it.
00:26:51Oh, my God.
00:26:53Can he make sure he throws it not onto the cage?
00:26:56What if he gets it in the cage?
00:26:59Watching those sharks just circle that cage is next level.
00:27:07Quite frankly, it's terrifying.
00:27:08How are you really feeling?
00:27:10I'm nervous.
00:27:10Yeah.
00:27:11That's good.
00:27:13You should be nervous.
00:27:14Like, they're a serious animal.
00:27:19Yeah, I really don't know what to expect.
00:27:21Um, I just know that the sharks that we saw yesterday
00:27:23were really big.
00:27:25And they're the same sharks we're swimming with today.
00:27:26I'm not around.
00:27:35How many?
00:27:37Yeah, let's go.
00:27:42Jesus.
00:27:49Jesus.
00:27:55In the Bahamas, the shark capital of the world,
00:27:58the celebrities are about to dive with bull sharks.
00:28:02This is the first time they will come face to face
00:28:05with these notorious apex predators,
00:28:07and the only time they will do it
00:28:09with the protection of a cage.
00:28:13I'm scared.
00:28:14Sharks are a real fear,
00:28:15and I don't want to be in the water when they're there.
00:28:18I'll turn around.
00:28:23How many?
00:28:24Yeah, let's go.
00:28:28Jesus.
00:28:34Jesus.
00:28:41All right.
00:28:42It's up in the lid.
00:28:44They're just huge.
00:28:46Matty, do you hear me?
00:28:47Yeah.
00:28:48Credit-wise, they're just so big.
00:28:54How many have we got in here?
00:28:55There's at least seven.
00:28:57Seven or eight, O.C.
00:28:58we can see right now.
00:29:01Jesus.
00:29:02I reckon he's going,
00:29:04this is okay,
00:29:05I think I'm gonna be okay.
00:29:08Or he's passed out.
00:29:09It's still a very daunting experience.
00:29:12Oh, so...
00:29:13This is just the first step in their training.
00:29:16We're assessing them at all times.
00:29:18We're making sure they're safe,
00:29:20because they're working up to something that's pretty huge.
00:29:23There's not too many people around the world
00:29:26that are brave enough to go scuba diving with tiger sharks.
00:29:29This one, is this one the biggest?
00:29:31I think so.
00:29:33Oh.
00:29:34Oh, my God.
00:29:38Do you see how fast they go from totally relaxed to, like, bad?
00:29:44Incredible.
00:29:45So much power in their bodies.
00:29:48They're so jacked up.
00:29:50The turning power is wild.
00:29:53Oh, my God.
00:29:55Oh, look at this.
00:29:58I don't know how I'm gonna feel with no-cade.
00:30:00If I'm scared today, then God help me.
00:30:05Going up?
00:30:06Let's go.
00:30:08That's right.
00:30:09Yeah.
00:30:10Yeah, that was amazing.
00:30:11Amazing.
00:30:22That was an incredible experience.
00:30:24I didn't expect to be as calm once I was in there.
00:30:28He survived!
00:30:29Yeah!
00:30:32Woo!
00:30:32Woo!
00:30:34In saying that, you know, I was in a cage.
00:30:37I don't know what's gonna happen once I'm in the water without that safety, so...
00:30:41No!
00:30:42It's a nice introduction, but I don't think it's done anything to really, you know, quell my fear.
00:30:49No.
00:30:50So what I'm hearing is you want to do it without the cage.
00:30:52No.
00:30:53Right, if we can get a wrap on the cage.
00:30:54No, no.
00:30:55None of that.
00:30:57You were seeming pretty brave earlier, and then you started to feel a little bit queasy, huh?
00:31:01Oh, yeah.
00:31:03I feel like I'm gonna cry.
00:31:05I feel like I'm gonna cry, throw up.
00:31:08This isn't helping.
00:31:09It's very tight, claustrophobic.
00:31:11Enjoy it.
00:31:12Stay calm.
00:31:13They're beautiful animals.
00:31:14I want you to appreciate them.
00:31:15I want you to have a good time, so just relax.
00:31:17When I'm scared, I laugh and squeal a lot, which I'm actually really nervous about in this situation
00:31:23because they get interested in noise, so that they'll come towards you.
00:31:28Good luck.
00:31:29Thanks.
00:31:31But it's a reaction, like I can't help that.
00:31:34Do you see where the bar is?
00:31:35Yeah.
00:31:36There's two bars.
00:31:37Yeah.
00:31:38The first one is where you want to put your hand.
00:31:40Don't reach the second one.
00:31:41When I did the great white thing, I kept accidentally grabbing the other one.
00:31:45Don't do that here.
00:31:45I feel like, yeah, like...
00:31:47The white sharks are actually more forgiving than these guys.
00:31:50So don't put your hands on the front one.
00:31:52No.
00:31:52Okay?
00:31:53The fact that they can, like, sense if you're nervous, like, they can sense your heart rate
00:31:56and stuff like that, that's a bit stressful.
00:31:59Like, I'm excited, but the nerves are definitely still there.
00:32:08There she goes.
00:32:09Yay!
00:32:10Go, Tammy!
00:32:12Oh, my God.
00:32:15Oh, my God.
00:32:23Oh, my God.
00:32:24Oh, my God.
00:32:27Oh, my God.
00:32:44I feel like they're gonna get my hair.
00:32:52You're doing great.
00:32:53I know they're getting really close.
00:32:55You're doing great.
00:32:56Oh, my God.
00:32:58Oh, my God.
00:32:58Do I have to hold on to the bar?
00:33:01You need to keep your hands on the line.
00:33:03Okay.
00:33:04Oh, my God.
00:33:06Keep your hands on the bar.
00:33:08Tammy started really well.
00:33:09I felt like she was pretty comfortable, even though she was nervous.
00:33:13Oh, my God.
00:33:16Tammy, keep your hands on the bar.
00:33:19Oh.
00:33:19Oh, my God.
00:33:20But once the bull sharks kind of started to get closer, she definitely got anxious.
00:33:24She kept pulling her arms away from the bar.
00:33:26Oh, my God.
00:33:28I've been floating around too much.
00:33:31Oh, my God.
00:33:33Oh, shit.
00:33:37At one point, she let go, and actually her body lifted up into the water column, which is a big
00:33:42no-no for me.
00:33:43You know, I absolutely don't need anyone's arms or legs outside of the cage, and Tammy was definitely a risk
00:33:49for that.
00:33:49Tammy, we're going to have to report the dive.
00:33:52You're going to have to get out.
00:33:53Please just go up the steps.
00:33:55Just go quietly.
00:33:56I'm going to be right behind you, but we're going to have to report the dive.
00:33:59I'm really sorry.
00:34:00You need to keep me safe.
00:34:04Looks like they're calling off the dive.
00:34:06I wonder why they didn't stay down very long.
00:34:08No.
00:34:08Is she all right?
00:34:12Oh, here she comes.
00:34:14Yeah, Tammy.
00:34:15Yeah, Tammy.
00:34:20It's definitely, like, very intense.
00:34:25It was honestly just, like, sharks everywhere that you look.
00:34:29They're just, like, opening their mouths right where my hands were.
00:34:34I literally thought they were going to bite my fingers.
00:34:36I couldn't hold onto the bar.
00:34:38I was just sort of, like, flailing around, screaming.
00:34:41It's a bit embarrassing now.
00:34:42I feel so dramatic.
00:34:44I'm such a drama queen.
00:34:45I kept, like, letting go, like, the way they were biting.
00:34:50But if you let go of it, if you let go of it, and the current pushes you into the
00:34:54wall,
00:34:54and then you're scrambling looking for it, my hands might go out.
00:34:57Yeah.
00:34:57I kept, like, shoving my hands back on the bar.
00:34:59I kept, like, freaking out.
00:35:00I'm glad I didn't throw up, so that's a win.
00:35:03But I feel like they were, like, testing how good would be with the shark.
00:35:09And I feel like if that's, like, a pass-fail thing, then I definitely failed.
00:35:16Just seeing Tammy so freaked out, I could feel my emotions building.
00:35:23I knew this would be a really big challenge for me, but this is so much harder than what
00:35:28I thought it would be.
00:35:29I think it's just a lot of pent.
00:35:32A little?
00:35:33Yeah.
00:35:34This is a very scary scenario.
00:35:37For me to win Olympic gold, I needed to be fearless in the pool.
00:35:40And I feel like it's good to be fearless in life, too.
00:35:44And that was part of the reason why I came here.
00:35:46To push myself in ways I hadn't before, and to help me overcome some of that fear.
00:35:53Come on!
00:35:54We got this, honey!
00:35:55Get it, girl!
00:35:55Go, Ariane!
00:35:57Come to me.
00:35:59How are you feeling?
00:36:01I am petrified.
00:36:03Okay.
00:36:04You're okay to be scared.
00:36:05You know what I mean?
00:36:06Like, they're big.
00:36:07They're scary.
00:36:09I know.
00:36:09It's okay.
00:36:10I've just always been so strong in what I do.
00:36:12Like, I've never been scared of anything at my job.
00:36:15Like, I can stand behind the blocks at an Olympic final and be like, this is so different.
00:36:21Just seeing them so close, and seeing what they're capable of, I just, I think my fear
00:36:30is so much greater than I ever thought it was.
00:36:33Oh, my gosh.
00:36:34I'm stressed for it.
00:36:36Oh, my God!
00:36:44Oh, my God!
00:36:46Oh, shit!
00:36:57I knew this would be a really big challenge for me coming here.
00:37:03I have worst case scenario everything.
00:37:05Like, what if one gets in the cage?
00:37:07What if?
00:37:09That's how my mind works.
00:37:11I'm petrified.
00:37:12Absolutely petrified.
00:37:14Let's go, Arnie.
00:37:15Let's do this.
00:37:18Oh, my God!
00:37:21Oh, my gosh.
00:37:22I'm stressed for her.
00:37:23No, she's all right.
00:37:24She'll be fine.
00:37:24Yeah.
00:37:35Oh, my God!
00:37:38Oh, shit!
00:37:41Oh, my God.
00:37:42Oh, shit!
00:37:42Oh, my God!
00:37:45We're just closing.
00:37:46Oh, my God!
00:38:12She's got a lot of shots right next to the gate
00:38:33it was extremely intimidating and confronting being so close to those
00:38:37animals were just a bit of cage between you the bait was getting thrown a lot
00:38:46closer to the cage and I was just freaking out that it would end up in the
00:38:51cage. It just was all a bit too much I think I want to get out oh my god
00:39:11I feel really proud of myself I challenged myself to really stay down there as long
00:39:17as I could. They get like bloody close like that bait guy he seriously should throw a
00:39:24little bit further away. You know I'm literally facing my fears those animals
00:39:28they look you straight in the eye and it's incredibly intimidating that's
00:39:33really full-on yeah it's gonna be a real challenge for me to do that without a
00:39:39cage. I'm gonna be petrified this whole week I truly know that I'll leave here
00:39:43and I'll still be scared of sharks. Yeah god help me. We want you to enjoy
00:39:49it. We want you to have a good time. We want you to experience these amazing bull
00:39:53sharks in a safe environment where you can appreciate them. Yeah. And then we'll
00:39:58meet them later. Alright. Sounds good. No cage. You ready? Yeah let's go. Let's go. Let's do it.
00:40:04I think I'm a little bit different to some of our other teammates. Alright Sammy's up.
00:40:12Obviously a little bit of nerves but being of a Torres Strait Islander background I do have a
00:40:17strong connection to the sea, the land. My father grew up on a small island in the
00:40:26Torres Strait, Gamma Island and the ocean was a huge part of their survival at the end of the day
00:40:30so I know and understand how important every creature is in the ocean.
00:40:40I'm excited to get in there, see them up close and personal. I think yeah I'll be in hall.
00:40:45Let's see some bull sharks. Alright bull sharks, where are you? Let's go.
00:40:52Here we go. Wow wee.
00:40:55I love a splash. How good. Oh wow that's close. They are beautiful aren't they? They're so iconic.
00:41:08I'm just loving seeing all the wildlife, the fish, the sharks. It's so beautiful and clear down here too.
00:41:16It's so great. It's so cool. I'm loving this. Wow that's close.
00:41:24To be able to be in the water and see how incredibly beautiful they are.
00:41:29This is absolutely incredible. I'm having a really great spiritual experience.
00:41:45I really enjoyed getting in the water and seeing the sharks up close and personal.
00:41:50They seem to be really chilled out and relaxed with me in there.
00:41:54Wow they were so well behaved for you. I know. I was like, what is happening right now?
00:42:00They like me. I've never seen them behave so well. Yeah yeah.
00:42:04I don't know maybe it's a little bit of a, I don't know, connection. An island connection with them.
00:42:10Well done it's really awesome. Pass Mark? Yeah. Nailed it. Nailed it. Passed it.
00:42:14Thank you. How are you feeling, Lynn?
00:42:19Oh, I'm like, now the time is coming. I'm, wow that's a big one.
00:42:24I'm a little anxious. I was fine before. If I'd have been able to go first, I would have just
00:42:30got it over and done with.
00:42:31Bye. I love you all. Remember, song and dance at the funeral.
00:42:36But sort of now seeing how Ari and seeing how Tammy was dealing with it, now I'm feeling like, well
00:42:45it's, it's terrifying quite frankly.
00:42:4772 years old, you're such a great example for everyone. You're being brave, you're doing something you've never done before,
00:42:53something you've been scared of. So amazing.
00:42:55Thank you. Thank you darling. Thank you.
00:42:57Go on, get on down there. Yep.
00:42:59Alright, Lynnie's going in.
00:43:00Hi Lynnie!
00:43:01Hi!
00:43:01Yay!
00:43:02Go on, Lynnie!
00:43:04There's so many variables that make me very nervous. What if this doesn't work, you know? What if my mask
00:43:14fails?
00:43:15He could have taken me out for dinner first.
00:43:18That combined with the sharks possibly being able to eat my fingers is alarming.
00:43:24Go on, Lynnie!
00:43:31And as you age, bodies just don't behave like the 35 year old we think we are.
00:43:37You got it. You got it.
00:43:41You got it.
00:43:42You got it.
00:43:46You got it.
00:43:48You got it.
00:43:51You got it.
00:43:52Genie, I've got you.
00:43:55You got it.
00:43:56Then don't panic, I've got you in my arms.
00:43:58Don't panic.
00:44:05that's super brave man yeah yeah all right you got it Lenny you got it
00:44:14now let's enjoy this show here they come yeah this one hey yeah
00:44:25pretty incredible extraordinary they're so majestic and fearsome looking but I feel I
00:44:40feel very privileged to be honest
00:44:49amazing I don't think I've ever been up close to a creature with a mouth that size and with a
00:44:57head
00:44:57that size and they're eyeballing you oh hello I really it's quite emotional it's quite an emotional
00:45:09experience oh hello there they're extraordinary the bull sharks are truly magnificent creatures
00:45:19and it has changed my my view of them it was really emotional it was fantastic it was fantastic it
00:45:36was
00:45:36just amazing I loved it I loved every minute of it talk about inspiration to be in a cage and
00:45:45see this
00:45:46giant fearsome majestic animal swimming around me and all the other little fishies just made me
00:45:52realize what a remarkable world it kind of changes your perspective of the planets that it's not just us
00:46:05it was remarkable and it was an honor it was an absolute honor
00:46:27amazing oh my god I can't believe it this was a great opportunity to try and get these celebrities
00:46:33comfortable help build their confidence because ultimately at some point they're not going to have
00:46:39the comfort of this cage so this is a good kind of first building block for what's to come coming
00:46:45up
00:46:46oh my god welcome to honeymoon harbour home to some of the largest southern stingrays in Bimini this is
00:46:55insane everyone has in their mind what happened to Steve Irwin and I immediately think oh good grief are we
00:47:03going to get in with them I said don't move don't move you're one much behind you I didn't expect
00:47:11it to
00:47:12like have teeth for some reason or to like be able to bite me it actually hurt so it's right
00:47:18here
00:47:18I don't know
00:47:20he's in the orange hawaiian shirt
00:47:25he's got a can
00:47:26he's got a can
00:47:27sorry I'm late I had something big on that I had to finish renovating
00:47:30he's here to build a shark cage
00:47:42how are you feeling about it all it's quite surprising honestly like it's a mixed bag of
00:47:48people yeah there's a lot of emotions going on Tammy was very surprising because she was full gusto 100
00:47:56miles an hour and then minutes before she was going to get in the water she started talking
00:48:00about how she was going to throw up overconfident I see it all the time people are talking the talk
00:48:05they want to walk the walk and then when it really comes down to the crunch time things fall apart
00:48:10and
00:48:10I think that's what she did today I want them to feel a bit of fear because when you have
00:48:15fear then
00:48:16you're careful it's when people don't have that fear and they're feeling comfortable that's when mistakes
00:48:21happen that's when people get hurt obviously we're going to need to watch all of them because
00:48:27they're extremely inexperienced they all have a lot of nerves Arianne is one we definitely need to
00:48:33keep an eye on I think that once we start removing the cage we're getting with other animals I think
00:48:39it's going to be a problem for her yeah the problem is if that happens and she falls to pieces
00:48:43and she
00:48:44panics the thrashing that's going to attract the tiger shark straight to her there's no way we are
00:48:50going to let her get in the water with the tigers and she's behaving like that yeah me and Annie
00:48:55are
00:48:55going to coach her through it we're going to be very supportive because we don't want her to fail
00:48:58we want her to overcome something that has been a fear of hers her whole life
00:49:13yesterday the celebrities cage dive with bull sharks however when they eventually dive with tiger sharks
00:49:20they won't have the protection of a cage so for their next training exercise we need to build their
00:49:26confidence around marine life in the open water
00:49:39i wonder what we're doing i reckon we're going to be in the water with sharks swimming around us how
00:49:47do you think you're going to feel today i don't know if i prefer to be underwater around like three
00:49:52big sharks
00:49:53sharks or be in water at the surface with like 50 little sharks yeah but there might be other critters
00:50:00you know like i don't know stingrays yeah i'm petrified of stingrays i have this thing about
00:50:09stingrays with steve erwin you know they're actually cute and friendly but when they get aggravated they
00:50:14can kill you so i have two lucky charms i call them breasts ma i have a little turtle so
00:50:26maybe we
00:50:26might see turtles yes and i have a little starfish and hopefully beautiful they keep us safe paul and
00:50:33nanny will keep us safe yeah and these yeah
00:50:59they're everywhere oh my god
00:51:03we're all looking over the edge sure enough stingrays little ones great big ones huge ones and i've
00:51:14never had an encounter with a stingray before oh my god this is insane wow they're everywhere
00:51:25so what do you guys think oh it's amazing i've got a friend here already what an entrance look at
00:51:30this
00:51:31they're all lining up for you the welcoming committee welcome to honeymoon harbor home to some of the
00:51:37largest southern stingrays in bimini wow so we are going to get in the water because ultimately i want
00:51:44you to learn how to behave around the rays i want you to build your confidence because of course the
00:51:50end
00:51:50goal is to get you in the water with sharks without the comfort of a cage everyone has in their
00:51:56mind
00:51:56what happened to lovely steve erwin we all are very aware of that and i immediately think oh good grief
00:52:05are we going to get in with them the stingrays have a bob at the base of their tail it's
00:52:10not right at the
00:52:10end it's actually a lot lower down hello mate that's it don't move don't move don't move you're
00:52:15one way behind you matt don't move when you don't like being in the ocean suddenly you've got stingrays
00:52:21touching your ankles and feet that's really scary they have a bob it's a venomous bob and it has almost
00:52:29like arrows pointing down so when the bob goes in there is actually no way of it coming back out
00:52:34you have to surgically cut it back out why are they here a lot of animals will actually predate
00:52:39on these particularly big hammerheads yep so one of the reasons they'll use this shallow is to avoid
00:52:44big sharks coming in yeah makes sense there you go oh my god oh my god i'm afraid you're all
00:52:51right
00:52:51honey you're all right stand still stand still stand still right so we are about to get in
00:52:57it is really important that you listen to my instructions and follow my lead yes so i'm going
00:53:04to do a bit of a demonstration of how we're going to get in with these rays when they rest
00:53:08they will
00:53:09actually kind of shake themselves cover themselves with sand and you only see their eyes they can
00:53:14completely camouflage themselves so it's really important that when you're walking around you do
00:53:19something called the stingray shuffle and what that is is you're going to put both your feet together and
00:53:23you're just gonna make noise so they can hear and they'll see the sand kicking up and and is that
00:53:29so they can hear you coming and we'll move away exactly they can we don't tread on them exactly
00:53:35there is a chance as i just mentioned they are prey to hammerhead so if a hammerhead is to appear
00:53:41stay calm and honestly listen to what i say exactly there is also a chance that we might see nurse
00:53:48sharks
00:53:48here if we see black tips which do again come into the shallows on it i will get you out
00:53:54immediately
00:53:54that is a shark i do not want in this situation and they have been coming here recently so that
00:53:59is
00:53:59a real concern again listen to what i'm saying stingrays and sharks sharks come in here i'm out
00:54:07i knew this would really test me but actually seeing stingrays and knowing that there was sharks lurking
00:54:14this is hard for me honey what is that swimming away over there is that a little is that a
00:54:19big fish that
00:54:20is uh that is actually a shark what is this shot this is over here now there's actually two sharks
00:54:27what sort of sharks are they these are black-nosed sharks in fact there's three of them we have about
00:54:3325 stingrays and now three black-nosed as well i don't want the sharks to come here ah he's terrified
00:54:41it's really it's quite confronting to see you know just how um afraid she is i think i'm gonna be
00:54:48able
00:54:48to get in i think i'm gonna be able to get in i think i'm gonna be able to get
00:55:07in you're alone
00:55:08i'm way more scared i thought i was why don't you guys just take five minutes just take a couple
00:55:14of minutes you can just come to work on your breathing just go and stand on the land to get
00:55:18you out of the water so you've not got to worry about what's on your feet just take a few
00:55:22minutes
00:55:22and catch yourself it's the unexpected changes for me that i really struggle with and so getting in
00:55:33the water with the stingrays and the sharks that weren't supposed to be there that was a real challenge
00:55:39for me sure see how they go and then yeah work towards it it's totally fine yeah yeah but i'm
00:55:47just
00:55:48going to look like the fears you won't people will absolutely understand how the hell am i going to
00:55:53do this show if i can't complete the challenge with braids and little sharks all right so i'll
00:55:58take these guys in i am surprised at arian but you know what i also feel like the more she
00:56:05sees
00:56:05us participating and not getting heard the braver she will become
00:56:13so when you do this guys you're going to put it down give it a bit of a shake so
00:56:17they can
00:56:17actually see it yeah and what they'll do is almost like a burst towards it and then just let it
00:56:22go
00:56:22i'll be real obviously people are worried about the barb and rightfully so yeah but they can actually
00:56:27bite um and they give you kind of a clamping feeling right um it doesn't draw blood but it will
00:56:33kind
00:56:33of burst blood vessels so you don't want to put your hand in there okay okay i missed all of
00:56:38that
00:56:39who wants a snack who have we got who wants a snack it's really cool go go go go you
00:56:46see the little
00:56:46acceleration yeah yeah i pinch myself that i'm engaging with british that could potentially kill me
00:56:55oh my okay we've got a party going on here and i just hope i'm not too overconfident this is
00:57:01honestly
00:57:02all part of the process like learning learning to stay calm is really what we're looking for
00:57:08that was good that was really good here we go trying to learn to stay calm in the moment but
00:57:13they
00:57:13were all very pushy and very hungry i dropped it they're like little like like a puppy jumping up
00:57:23for a snack can feeding some stingrays
00:57:35i didn't expect it to like have teeth for some reason or to like be able to bite me it
00:57:40actually
00:57:40hurt so it's right here you know what on day two bitten by stingray wasn't what i expected
00:57:50i love stingrays i actually think they're one of the kind of played down animals but yet they're
00:57:57pretty cool they're flat sharks as we know them they're an elasmobranch now they have a venomous
00:58:01barb but they can't kind of fire it they actually have to hit you with it we see hammerheads with
00:58:06sometimes three four five stingray barbs in their mouths where they're hunting stingrays and they're
00:58:12getting caught with their barbs i think there's some sharks behind us yeah yeah shot count one two
00:58:20three four five shots i don't see the nurses yet okay let me have a go you want to have
00:58:28a go yeah
00:58:29just the excel yeah i have to let it go as soon as they accelerate all right i'll be honest
00:58:33i didn't
00:58:33know what to expect obviously they could turn if they need to turn but uh it was just a really
00:58:38wonderful
00:58:39experience it was awesome very gentle listing rays okay here we go they remind me of elephants what
00:58:48what elephants do with their ears and their trunk
00:58:54and they just seemed like a a lovely creature there's like two sharks yeah quick shot count one two three
00:59:03well i think there's six now one two three four five there's actually six now um right guys as you
00:59:11can see we actually now have seven sharks here um they are becoming a little bit bold they're getting
00:59:20quite close oh we've got a nurse so we're actually gonna get out guys are getting a little bit too
00:59:29confident so just exit straight but i'm going to stand on this side there's one right here
00:59:34i knew i'd made the right decision i mean there was big nurse shark and half a dozen other sharks
00:59:41i'm going to stand on this side shuffle this way that's the trigger there's the shark
00:59:46it's the trigger so just shuffle your way out i'm worried if i can't do this one there's no way
00:59:51i
00:59:51can do the tiger diet i'm just going to have to come to terms with the fact that i might
00:59:55not be able
00:59:56to do everything here we go i'm good i'm good i'm good this is as hard as it's ever going
01:00:01to get
01:00:02for me in terms of facing my fears i'm really sorry we had to end it but as you saw
01:00:06you know
01:00:06the sharks were getting bolder we got into seven black nose i know the nurse shark's still around
01:00:11and so just want to keep everyone safe because there's still more to come tomorrow we're going
01:00:16to go and meet paul at predator corridor what the hell does predator corridor mean for god's sake
01:00:27couldn't you soften the name a little bit coming up are we here if this is where we're getting in
01:00:35i'm out this is in the middle of nowhere i've got swimming out 150 meters with sharks in the water
01:00:41there's a little shark there oh wow that's not little you're all right auntie saying a prayer
01:00:49oh there's another boat coming who's that
01:00:54he's got a camp how do you feel about coming to a place with such a daunting title as predator
01:01:00corridor
01:01:01well i'm not too happy about it at all paul the bloody shark right there now what are we doing
01:01:06we're
01:01:06not getting in the water are we
01:01:20do you just want nice little curls just just a few loose curls honey just so i don't look like
01:01:25i'm being dragged through the brambles backwards when i found out that lynn would be coming on this
01:01:30show i was so excited because i actually love home and away so getting to meet irene was great
01:01:37if you just said to me a year ago you're going to be in the bahamas potentially swimming with sharks
01:01:43i'd say you've got rocks in your bloody head having the opportunities to to do something like this yeah
01:01:50it's just amazing it's funny because your retirement from home and away basically coincided with
01:01:57my retirement so sad to see irene leave look uh it was coming for a while i was on home
01:02:05and away
01:02:05longer than she's been alive like that's bizarre and i look back and i think how on earth did i
01:02:16stay
01:02:16there for 33 years well i stayed there because i loved it how are you feeling about not doing competitive
01:02:24swimming anymore yeah um i feel like a big weight has been lifted and i decided to take a 12
01:02:31-month
01:02:32break after paris because i've been on the national team for nearly 10 years wow and a lot of things
01:02:38changed in my life just having a lot more time for things that you just can't prioritize when you're an
01:02:44athlete like yes i could never just randomly go to mom and dad's house for dinner just because you know
01:02:49she has devoted 20 of her 25 years to getting to where she has got it's extraordinary you know i
01:02:59never intended to retire but i had someone who was also a very good athlete say to me you want
01:03:04people
01:03:05to wonder why you retire why you've retired not when you're retiring yes and that really sat with me
01:03:10yeah you don't want to go out with a whimper yeah exactly you want to go out with a bang
01:03:16and if i was
01:03:17still training i there's no way i'd be able to have this opportunity to conquer my my biggest fear
01:03:25this is a really big period of personal growth for me this is about taking an opportunity to face my
01:03:31fears and use it as a tool to make myself a better person
01:03:52now that the celebrities have faced bull sharks in a cage they're just so big and experienced stingrays
01:03:58in the wild it's time for the next step in their shark training so i've asked them to meet me
01:04:05at one
01:04:06of bimini's most notorious shark hot spots predator corridor are you worried about what we're doing next
01:04:12yeah knowing everything's getting harder i just know that it's going to take every ounce of strength
01:04:17for me to get through this are you scared i don't know what we're doing yet so and it's called
01:04:23predator
01:04:24predator corridor that's not a great sounding name obviously it's going to be something with sharks
01:04:31maybe it'll be like the shark version of what we just did i don't know if we could head feed
01:04:35sharks
01:04:36though no i would lose all my fingers yeah are you actually not scared of anything or are you just
01:04:44pretending no i think my biggest fear is is failure and not and not being able to do it um
01:04:51and and like
01:04:52for myself like i've been in the water since i was a young kid and i've been around all different
01:04:58types of creatures in the water as well and i think that's really helping me in this there definitely
01:05:03is fear there but there's also a very deep cultural connection of the sharks even to the point where
01:05:10we have a couple of uh different animals which are you know assigned to you as family totems and the
01:05:16hammerhead shark is mine so i think that helps with this whole experience i'm still hesitant there is
01:05:26fear but i just i just face it differently never seen a hammerhead shark before
01:05:32uh seeing them on documentaries like to see one in the wild that would be absolutely incredible
01:05:41are we here i think yeah i think we're here
01:05:49where's this it i didn't think we'd be in the ocean i didn't think we'd be in the deep middle
01:05:52of
01:05:53the ocean i didn't think today this is stressing me out now i have a bit of the shakes
01:05:58i hate the unknown i hate waiting around i hate not being told what's happening
01:06:02and the guessing is the worst part because guess has become quite extravagant you all right honey
01:06:09say to prep there's a lot of nervous energy circulating if this is where we're getting in
01:06:14i'm out this is in the middle of nowhere i'm not swimming out 150 meters with sharks in the water
01:06:19there's a little shark there oh wow that's not little it's a big shot i'm not getting in here mate
01:06:25there's no there's no chance you're not getting any i'm not nervous i'm scared what what i'm afraid
01:06:32of is getting taken by a shark where you're swimming on top of the water right that's what happens
01:06:37that's that's the fear there was a shark attack at the northern beaches not long ago and some of my
01:06:46friends knew that man really well that event probably was a contributing factor for the irrational fear
01:06:54i have we're in the middle of nowhere stay calm stay calm i think he is
01:07:02someone i might have to you know put an arm around maybe we're all here for one another
01:07:07and we'll go through this as a team
01:07:20the celebrities have joined me a predator corridor for the next training exercise
01:07:27hello guys well this is predator corridor what are you guys saying what are you seeing here shark is
01:07:33there yeah there was a it's a nurse down there just no sharks or yeah little do they know no
01:07:39sharks
01:07:40are one of at least 12 species of shark potentially lurking in the water below
01:07:46is paul coming today i reckon he's gonna rock up on jet ski or something i hope paul just parachutes
01:07:52in
01:07:52with a scuba tank on his back straight into the water yeah
01:08:01you spent much time on boats mate i've got a nice fishing boat i've had fishing boats all my life
01:08:06you ever jump off it oh i do but close to shore not out this far no all right we
01:08:14might have to change
01:08:15that okay my name's scott ken i host the block for the last 15 years this is a shark sanctuary
01:08:26after
01:08:26all so what could go wrong well i think everybody's got a fear of sharks because we're australian sharks are
01:08:33the enemy i grew up in bono beach and every weekend the shark alarm at gallif which you know
01:08:41no one's ever heard a good siren sirens are bad that's where i think australia had a fear of sharks
01:08:47people who are oh we've got to look after the sharks it's their domain they're the people that
01:08:51have never lost anyone from a shark i just feel as though that you know animals yes but humans need
01:08:57to come first in this situation a little bit anxious for my first challenge i'm also
01:09:03excited about meeting the other guys that could be paul actually arriving right now well i don't
01:09:11think they know you're coming so it should be a surprise yeah we'll see is that paul
01:09:22there's paul there's an orange hawaiian shirt
01:09:29a card okay it's got a camp oh it's got in here
01:09:40oh there we go what are we doing here it's got a camp's a legend
01:09:45so I know my daughters would be very very jealous I'm sorry I'm like gang I've been
01:10:02free diving with the great whites of South Australia I met Scott before I need
01:10:13briefly at events and stuff but he's easy to get on with you know he's just a fella Sammy boy
01:10:17and it's wonderful that he's here you guys have experienced shark timers and I've done nothing
01:10:22this is my first day oh wow I'm sorry I'm late I've had so I had something big on that
01:10:27I had to
01:10:27finish renovating he's here to build a shark cage how would be good I don't like turning up late
01:10:34because I missed out on the first couple of days of camaraderie which is always very important in
01:10:38the first day or two but we'll be right it's a great team and we're all going through this
01:10:43together which is what I like all right Scotty you have missed a little bit of the action but
01:10:47no worry there's plenty more to come probably how do you feel about coming to a place with
01:10:52such a daunting title as predator corridor well I'm not too happy about it all Paul is this the
01:11:00corridor we're talking about yeah all the way through here this is known as the shark superhighway
01:11:08oh my god there's known to be at least 12 different species of shark in this area
01:11:26what is it that's nasty what is that shark that's a big nurse shark right at the surface
01:11:35oh wow but no go away those are what we can see but under the boat right now could be
01:11:42hundreds of sharks
01:11:45sharks there were sharks swimming around the back of the boat which is quite crazy I think but I'm
01:11:49trying to put that aside and I don't have to get in the water right now that ain't gonna happen
01:11:56can I
01:11:57ask you what your fear level was like when it comes to sharks well you know what there was a
01:12:01fear level as a kid in Australia but we never actually saw one but you know that that fear level
01:12:07goes into adulthood where you're swimming in dark water hmm that there might be a shark it's an
01:12:12element of like the unknown hundred percent yes like right here I wouldn't swim here for a million
01:12:17bucks what are we doing we're not getting in the water are we oh he might be you're joking
01:12:33right you all seem to have gone really silent on us what are you looking at Scotty looking at a
01:12:38shark
01:12:38at the back of our boat they're about to jump off I'm sure Channel 9 doesn't want me to die
01:12:45oh shit
01:12:50next time on shark in pairs you're gonna be swimming across predator corridor the celebrities face the
01:12:57shark superhighway I'm just petrified I've avoided the ocean my whole life this time there's no cage
01:13:06there's you met many sharks there we're gonna have rocks in our bloody heads Scott and no turning
01:13:13back oh my gosh the hammer is right under him guys I can see it oh my gosh don't they
01:13:24buy just back
01:13:25yourself up back yourself up but sharks are not the only danger she was pretty lifeless her body was
01:13:37quite limp then I'm just gonna open this up get you a bit cooler we're gonna get you some oxygen
01:13:42this is not
01:13:48good
