The Junkies get on the viral trend and try Kool-Aid Pineapple!
Transcript
00:00We wanted to taste Valdez's concoction that he put together
00:03after watching probably 50 viral TikTok videos.
00:08The latest craze amongst the kids, amongst the youths,
00:12is Kool-Aid pineapples.
00:15I'm aware of the TikTok trend because you brought it up yesterday.
00:19Yes.
00:20I'm not aware if Valdez has TikTok.
00:22Do you have TikTok?
00:23No, it's all over every other social media.
00:26Yeah.
00:26But TikTok, it's on Twitter.
00:28It's all over.
00:29It's on your reels.
00:30And we talked about it yesterday.
00:33I commend you for getting the ingredients.
00:35I'm looking forward to this.
00:36So apparently what people are doing, it's the hottest thing out there,
00:40and on a refreshing summer day.
00:43I mean, today's supposed to be like 90 degrees in the D.C. area.
00:47It's taking spears of pineapple that are jarred,
00:52which I didn't even know existed before this trend came out.
00:56Like, I knew you could go.
00:57You just thought it was cubed.
00:58Well, I mean, I knew you could go to the store and buy a pineapple.
01:01Yeah.
01:02And you could be a manly man like Valdez and actually cut the pineapple.
01:05I don't think I've ever done such a thing.
01:07You can buy a cord pineapple where it's like circles of pineapple in like a plastic container.
01:13You could buy pineapple chunks.
01:14Yep.
01:15I was aware that they made pineapple spears.
01:18This is news to me.
01:19I didn't know either until I saw all of the videos.
01:22But what apparently you do is you take the jar of pineapple spears.
01:28You dump out the sugary pineapple juice liquid that accompanies the spears.
01:36It almost looks like a jar of pickles when you see it in stores.
01:40You dump out the juice.
01:43You take the pineapple out.
01:45You make Kool-Aid in the jar.
01:48You shake it up.
01:50You put the pineapple back in and you let it sit.
01:55And it's almost like the Kool-Aid pickles the pineapple.
01:58Okay.
01:59So it's like...
02:00It looks great.
02:00It's similar to like overnight oats, but it's not healthy at all.
02:04No, but with diabetes.
02:05It's overnight diabetes.
02:07That's what it is.
02:08Perfect descriptor.
02:09So I went out to Harris Teeter.
02:11Yeah.
02:12Harris Teeter getting so much run on the show, by the way.
02:14I mean, they should be a major sponsor.
02:17They should be.
02:17I mean, what's happening here?
02:18Into the guys.
02:19Yeah.
02:20He's got the...
02:21Especially if I go like twice a week.
02:22By the way, he's got the double-ply Harris Teeter bags in Maryland.
02:26I don't know what it costs in Virginia.
02:29Those two bags, that cost you 20 cents.
02:32Because it's 10 cents a bag if you don't bring your own bag to the store.
02:35We got the tropical punch.
02:37We got the purple flavor.
02:40And then the OG red.
02:41The purple.
02:44I think I'm going to love this.
02:45Can you give me some paper towels?
02:47Now, I got blessed hands, so it's going to be good.
02:50Okay.
02:51All right.
02:51Hold on, hold on.
02:52All right.
02:52And I got the best juice.
02:55So how are...
02:55Can you pass me the paper towels behind you, Jason?
02:57We have paper towels and forks.
02:59And we have cups if you want to take one out and put it in the cup.
03:01And not get juice all over the console.
03:03How are we supposed to get it out?
03:05Like, just dip our fingers in?
03:07Well, I would take a fork because your fingers could get stained.
03:10Fingers could be so red.
03:12Yeah.
03:13Red all day.
03:14Fingers are Aaron Lewis.
03:15Now, where did this start?
03:17You just see it online.
03:18I know.
03:19Was there one person that started it?
03:21Or...
03:22I don't get it.
03:24Just creative people are making it.
03:27Okay.
03:27Perfect.
03:27All right.
03:28So, Valdez, before I dip in, what flavor Kool-Aid is this?
03:33It's red.
03:34That's tropical.
03:35I think it's more of a Hawaiian punch flavor.
03:37Okay.
03:37And I've got the grape.
03:38Fruit punch.
03:38Yeah.
03:39I'm going with fruit punch.
03:40Jason has the purple flavor.
03:41Okay.
03:42And then, JP has a red.
03:45That's a fruit punch.
03:46Fruit punch.
03:46You know what?
03:47That's dumb to ask the flavor.
03:48I think it's just red Kool-Aid.
03:50It's just red.
03:51It's the OG.
03:52Yeah.
03:52Okay.
03:53Yeah.
03:53So, I don't understand.
03:54Do you just buy a Kool-Aid like this, or is Valdez making it and putting all the sugar
03:58in there and everything?
03:58You make it in the jar.
04:00Yeah.
04:01And then you shake it.
04:01Then you shake it together.
04:03And then...
04:03Right.
04:04You take the pineapple juice out, and then you put in Kool-Aid.
04:06Yeah.
04:06So, how many teaspoons of sugar are in each of these jars?
04:09You know, I watched a lot of recipes about this.
04:13Okay.
04:13I like heavy sugar.
04:14A lot of them say, eyeball it.
04:16Eyeball it.
04:17Yeah.
04:17Yeah.
04:18I mean, I got blessed hands, so it's going to taste good.
04:20There's nothing worse than Kool-Aid than one sugar.
04:23Mine's pretty good.
04:23All right.
04:24I'm going to sample mine here.
04:25Hold on.
04:27We're getting it all over the place.
04:29It's really good.
04:30Yeah.
04:31I'm even going to take a second bite.
04:32Is it too sugary?
04:33No.
04:34I mean, it's very sugary, but I'm okay with it.
04:37I mean, it makes perfect sense.
04:38It's pineapple, which I like, and it's Kool-Aid, which I like.
04:42I like both things, and it's fine, but pineapple is a delicious treat given to you by nature.
04:51Standalone fruit.
04:52Yes, a standalone fruit.
04:54It doesn't need to be dipped in Kool-Aid and sugar to taste good.
04:58It already tastes good.
05:00This is just a variant on an already good-tasting product.
05:04Well, you embrace that in the soda world.
05:07Oh, absolutely.
05:08I mean, the soda that I'm about to consume, this is a Dr. Pepper zero sugar.
05:13Do you know how good this is?
05:14Now, I need this to combat all of the sugar that's in here.
05:18I need zero sugar left hand, all the sugar right hand.
05:22I'm Radio Raheem all of a sudden.
05:24I don't know how reputable the report is, but there's a lot of people that are saying that
05:31a jar of those pineapple, of the Kool-Aid pineapple, is about 10 full-sugar Coca-Cola.
05:38Oh, jeez.
05:39That's crazy.
05:40That's a lot.
05:40Now, have we seen spikes in both pineapple sales and Kool-Aid sales, like in the last
05:48two to three weeks?
05:49I would guess there has to be.
05:51I saw a video of a guy that went to Costco.
05:53He went to Costco, and he bought every pineapple spear jar that they had in the place.
05:59What, is there 100 of them?
06:01It looked like, it literally looked like a thousand jars.
06:04He had pallets.
06:04I mean, just his entire bed of his pickup truck was nothing but pineapple Britney's.
06:10Are there people that, there's no way people eat all of the pineapples.
06:14No, I wouldn't think so.
06:15I could easily eat all the pineapples.
06:17You could eat all of those in one sitting?
06:19Yeah.
06:19You could eat them during this segment?
06:21It's not advisable.
06:23Now, on the streets.
06:23It's only like five or six beers.
06:25I took three bites.
06:26That's about all I can take.
06:27On the streets, I finished my first Britney.
06:28That small jar, on the streets, that sells for about $12.
06:32This is $12, really?
06:33It sells for $12?
06:36Vendors out there are selling them for $20.
06:38But that's a small jar.
06:40It's about $12.
06:41So is this just a new cottage industry that's popped up?
06:45Like, are people just putting folding tables on street corners and they're selling these jars?
06:51I think people are driving around with a pallet out there and a cooler and they're riding
06:56around in different neighborhoods.
06:58Entrepreneurs.
06:58Like the ice cream man.
07:00Entrepreneurial spirit is all it is.
07:02Now, there is a missing ingredient that I've seen a lot of recipes have.
07:06I don't know if you want to try this.
07:08What's that?
07:10I don't.
07:12Here, turn around, Jason.
07:14Oh, some Hennessy.
07:14Hennessy.
07:15Now you're talking.
07:17No.
07:17I wouldn't mind that.
07:20I might just take a shot of it.
07:21How'd you like your purple spear?
07:23It was fine.
07:24I did three bites.
07:25That's about all I can.
07:25You mix that with the juice and that gives you the good juice.
07:29Yeah, yeah, yeah.
07:31That's going to wake you up.
07:33Yeah.
07:33You can say for the Hennessy, I don't need a cup for Hennessy.
07:36There's no chance.
07:37Yeah, I'm not.
07:38I'm not dealing with the Henny.
07:39I've had the Henny before.
07:40I'm not Clinton Portis before a game.
07:42I don't need to do a shot of Hennessy in the 8 a.m. hour.
07:46Put a little bit in there.
07:48I did enough damage to my body by drinking two vodka tonics at 3.30 yesterday afternoon.
07:54You're not going to have a little Hennessy.
07:55This temple is not used to that sort of abuse.
07:58No beers?
08:00I thought I saw an Instagram picture this morning.
08:02No, no.
08:02Here's what happened, JP.
08:03I had two vodka tonics during a hangout, and then I went and took a nap, and then I woke
08:08up refreshed, and then I hopped in the shower, and I went and had dinner, and I washed it
08:15down with a 22-ounce Sapporo Japanese beer.
08:20Altaggio doesn't serve a Kool-Aid pineapple as a dessert.
08:24I'm going to guess if Mike Marr and I go to Altaggio in under a month, that this will
08:29not be on the dessert menu.
08:30If it is, consider me floored.
08:32Valdez, I'm going to Venmo you some cash.
08:34That's fine.
08:34I'll Venmo you, too.
08:36This is a good investment.
08:37Trust me, it didn't cost that much.
08:38I give you props.
08:39I like it.
08:42I would have this, like, if there was a party.
08:44Are you taking that home?
08:46No.
08:47I mean, it's fine, but I don't need to finish the entire spear, let alone the whole jar.
08:52I mean, there's no way people sit down and eat a whole jar of these at a time.
08:57I wouldn't think so.
08:57I've seen video where they do.
09:00Okay.
09:00Well, they're doing it for the video.
09:01Yeah, they're doing it for clicks and online cloud.
09:04That would be a lot.
09:05It's a lot.
09:06I would think your stomach would feel like butt for the rest of the day.
09:09Like, one of them is palatable.
09:10You can handle it.
09:12Multiple?
09:14You're going to be on a major sugar crash at, like, 11 a.m.
09:17I like the Hennessy better than the Pineapple.
09:19I'm sure you do.
09:20Don't blame you.
09:21Pretty good.
09:22You're a Hennessy guy.
09:22Look at you.
09:23I never drink Hennessy.
09:24Is it gas, as the kids say?
09:26Yeah, it's gas.
09:28All right, Valdez.
09:29So, I like the mix.
09:33You're a good Pineapple Spears mixologist.
09:36Blessed hands.
09:37That's what they say online.
09:38Have those guys had it?
09:39Have the other guys had it behind the glass?
09:41No, I'm itching to try it, though.
09:43Try it.
09:43Come get some.
09:45You want to try it.
09:45Get in here, Mike Marr.
09:46So, you have the original Kool-Aid, right?
09:48Yeah, I've got the red Kool-Aid.
09:49That's probably the one I want.
09:50He has the Tropical Punch.
09:51Yeah, this is probably the one you want.
09:52JP has the OG, OG Red, and then Jason has Grape.
09:56Correct.
09:56All right, I'm going to start with cakes, but I think I will try them all.
09:58Come in and get some.
10:01Get some pooping salad for lunch.
10:03I just can't believe these are going for 20 bucks, these jars.
10:06I don't know.
10:08Now, they're bigger jars.
10:09Bigger, yeah.
10:11I'm with you, Cakes.
10:12I didn't know you could buy Pineapple Spears.
10:14Didn't know that was a thing.
10:16Valdez is just emasculating me during the break because I told him I didn't really know
10:20how to properly cut a pineapple.
10:24It's not a thing that I grew up...
10:26I didn't have pineapple all the time in my house.
10:28I'm not rich.
10:31I live in Maui.
10:33I feel like pineapple is a higher tier fruit.
10:38Most people don't just have pineapple floating around their house.
10:42It's like a special occasion fruit.
10:43Mike Moore is going to dive into it.
10:47So what the kids are doing on the internet is they're trying the juice first.
10:50And then they're going in on the pineapple.
10:53I got the best juice.
10:54Yeah.
10:54Do that first.
10:56Juice.
10:57Juice.
10:58What do you think?
11:00That'd be a tour.
11:01I think it's Gap.
11:03But yes.
11:04I don't know what he just said.
11:06What did he just say?
11:08It has to be some 25-year-old jargon that I'm waiting to...
11:12Now we're about to try the pineapple.
11:13Now it's the real star of the show.
11:14Yeah.
11:15I mean, I have been patiently waiting for two weeks to try this.
11:18Okay.
11:19There you go.
11:19Mike Marr.
11:23Kool-Aid pineapple.
11:25Just making a big old mess.
11:27I mean, Eric Bickle's not here, but still a mess being made in his spot.
11:31Please spill someone on his chair.
11:33What are you thinking?
11:34That big guy.
11:35That big guy.
11:37No, it's really good.
11:38It's really good.
11:39It was worth the wait.
11:40I give it 10 out of 10.
11:42All right.
11:43Good stuff, Valdez.
11:44Well done.
11:45Well done.
11:46Blessed hands.
11:47Yep.
11:47Blessed hands.
11:47I didn't know that was a saying, but now we know.
11:50Now we know that's a thing.
11:52He likes it.
11:53Mike Marr's going to continue eating his Kool-Aid pineapple.
11:55Mike's going to finish the whole thing.
11:56When we come back, we're going to tell you who's fading the commanders this upcoming season
12:01in the NFL for 2026.
12:03We'll give you the skinny on that next.
