00:00But right now at 800-636-1067, you're the D.C. sports star.
00:05You're in charge of a team, okay?
00:07Call the Caps, the Nats, the Wiz, Local 53.
00:11You get one move and they got to do it.
00:13What's your move?
00:15Tos, I'm calling you first.
00:17Yeah, I'm trying to think of some different moves,
00:19and there are a couple that I would go for around the teams,
00:22but I think the one that is most pressing for me
00:24and something that would help this team immediately
00:27is I would go out and sign Stephon Diggs for the Washington Commanders.
00:32I would sign him yesterday, and it does two things for me, Danny.
00:36Number one, it helps out the receiving corps,
00:39which we'll get back to in just a second.
00:40Number two, it means I'm not signing Brandon Ayuk.
00:43Please no on that.
00:44No.
00:45No, no, no.
00:46Yes?
00:47No.
00:48Okay, hold on.
00:49Okay.
00:50Maybe?
00:50No.
00:51Ooh, ooh, ooh.
00:52Yeah.
00:53No.
00:53Damn it.
00:53Like, I am glad that Jaden and him are friends.
00:56It's cool to be friends with people.
00:57That's awesome.
00:58Yeah.
00:58Don't come play football here.
00:59Please.
01:00I see.
01:00I see.
01:00Do not let that happen.
01:01So, I get that Stephon Diggs brings his own baggage.
01:06It's not like he is, you know, blameless.
01:09But at the same point, it seems like all that stuff has gotten put in the past.
01:12I've seen him play football, Danny.
01:14You've brought this up plenty of times,
01:16and I think it's a great point with the Ayuk thing.
01:18I haven't seen him play football in almost two years,
01:19so I don't know what he is as a football player.
01:21And I'm getting all the extra stuff.
01:23I've seen Stephon Diggs play football last year and go for 1,000 yards.
01:27Bring me that guy, because I do not like the weapons behind Terry McLaurin.
01:31I do not like the options behind him.
01:33If anything happens to Terry, I think you're in dire straits.
01:37But also, I just think that you need help for your rookie contract quarterback
01:42to be able to get this done.
01:44So, help him out.
01:45Bring in Stephon Diggs.
01:46800-636-1067 is the number.
01:50That's Toby's answer.
01:51Signed, Stephon Diggs.
01:51Pretty easy one.
01:52What is yours, D.C. sports are for a day?
01:54You get one move, and they've got to do it.
01:56Let's go to Jay in Lake Ridge on line one.
01:58Jay, what's your sports move?
01:59What's up, Jay?
02:00My sports move would be to move James Wood into first base,
02:07providing a terrific target and a much longer reach getting guys out.
02:13We've already got sufficient outfielders.
02:16Jay, appreciate you.
02:17It's awesome out there.
02:17Yeah, thank you, buddy.
02:18Phone was breaking up there for a second.
02:20I'm an advocate of this.
02:23And my co-host on the radio program, Grant Harrison-Paulson, is not.
02:26He is out on that.
02:27He's like, you don't do that.
02:28I'm going, I do.
02:30I would 100% do that.
02:31I would have done it in spring training.
02:32I would look, and for a couple different reasons.
02:35I understand you want to be deferential to your superstar.
02:37And that's who he is.
02:38He is their best player.
02:39He's their most important player, et cetera.
02:42Here is the, I think it's a selling point.
02:45I go, let's save all those jogs out to the outfield.
02:48Let's save crashing into the wall.
02:50Let's save all the different things and put you at first base.
02:52You could absolutely, he's such a good athlete.
02:54He could learn it in an hour.
02:56Forget about Ron Washington going, it's incredibly hard.
02:58It's not.
02:59I'll tell you that right now.
02:59That's where they stick you.
03:01And his hands are so good.
03:03He's such a good athlete.
03:04He would be just fine over there, if not even plus, eventually.
03:07Again, I think he'd be very, very good.
03:08I have a glut of outfielders.
03:10I have a giant, giant vacancy over there at first base.
03:15You could be a slugging first baseman.
03:17What's the beef there?
03:17What's the problem?
03:18And it's not as if he was a gold glove caliber outfielder.
03:22If he was Jacob Young, I go, we can't move him out of the outfield.
03:25Sure you can.
03:26Very easy to move him out of the outfield.
03:27Again, I would have done it in spring training.
03:29I would have already done it.
03:30Now, the other part is, well, does that piss him off?
03:34Who knows?
03:35And I just have to talk to the player.
03:36And you obviously have to get some buy-in there.
03:38I get the feeling that not much does piss him off.
03:41I also know that the sands of the hourglass are already overturned.
03:46And this isn't a 15-year Washington National, respectfully.
03:49You know what I mean?
03:50I'm not saying you don't enjoy the time that he's here, because I will.
03:52I will enjoy it.
03:53I got four years left, basically, of James Wood doing James Wood things.
03:57I will cherish it every moment I get, but I would cherish him as a first baseman.
04:01Yeah, I think it could work.
04:02I mean, you're right.
04:03He's so athletic.
04:04He's someone that's really, really good.
04:05And by the way, I think it's a really good point about him not having to run around out
04:09there.
04:10New York right now is dealing with their superstar, an outfielder who was massive.
04:14He ran into the wall a couple of weeks ago, and now he's on the shelf for four to six
04:18weeks with a rib injury.
04:19I don't know for sure if that is the case, but Aaron Judge has not been the same player.
04:23They pointed out this catch.
04:25Before it, he was hitting .256, had 12 homers, OPS over 1,000.
04:29The last 26 games since he ran into the wall on a catch, .237, five homers, .791 OPS.
04:35Still a really good player, but not the same Aaron Judge, and now he's on the shelf for probably
04:40going to the 60-day IL.
04:41So that is something that you have to consider.
04:43Vinny, seat pleasant.
04:44What's your move as sports are?
04:47What's going on, guys?
04:49How y'all feeling today?
04:49Now, this might be a little ridiculous, but Danny, we know how you love ridiculousness.
04:54That's true.
04:54So I'm going to go ahead and go with this here.
04:57I think we should tell the learners, because I normally would go with the commanders.
05:03I'm going to shift it.
05:03I think we should go ahead and tell the learners to do whatever they can, throw the book, throw
05:06the house, throw their underwear at, show a Ohtani, and get him here to win some of these
05:14games for my Washington Nationals, man.
05:16Like, we got to do something.
05:18I don't care if they build him a private island on a deserted part of the ocean.
05:23Just get that man over here to win some of these games for my Nationals.
05:27That's my pickup right there.
05:30Vinny, appreciate you.
05:32I respect you.
05:36And you did the assignment.
05:40I don't...
05:41How do I...
05:41I'm trying to do a little gentle letdown, because I've been broken up with so many times.
05:44So many girls have told me that it was not them, it was me, or something.
05:48Yeah, yeah.
05:48Tell me it was them, or whatever it is.
05:51I don't know if that one's realistic.
05:54Right?
05:55That's a nice way to say it.
05:57Yeah, it's not, but I appreciate the idea.
05:59Yeah, yes.
06:00And that's what we're doing here.
06:01There are no bad ideas.
06:03Yeah.
06:03Maybe except that one, Vinny, but I love you.
06:05No, I'm just kidding.
06:06I'm just being serious.
06:07Here's the...
06:08Because the Dodgers have him on the most affordable current contract in human history.
06:12Yeah.
06:12It's all deferred money down the line.
06:13He's making like 18 bucks to win the Cy Young and maybe hit like an MVP.
06:18Again, he's so unbelievably special.
06:20You would have to basically say, any player you want for the next 20 years, we'll give you.
06:27Yeah.
06:28And anytime you go, oh, we like that guy, we'd have to just give him to you.
06:31And they'd still say no.
06:33Like, there is no offer that Washington could make, realistically, that would pry Shohei Ohtani
06:39away from the Dodgers, right?
06:40I think he's probably the most untouchable player in all the sports.
06:43I think so.
06:44Like, good luck.
06:45By the way, you don't want to trade for that contract.
06:48That means when he's done playing for you, you have to pay him $68 million a year.
06:52Be a small price to pay.
06:54I mean, it would.
06:54It's on someone else's money, but yeah.
06:56It would, but I mean, unreal.
06:59800-636-1067.
07:00Daris, what is your sports star DC move for a day?
07:04Imagine that I am Daris Winger.
07:07Daris Winger.
07:08Or Daris Dawkins.
07:09I think Daris Dawkins is a little better.
07:11Daris Dawkins?
07:12What a silly name.
07:12Sounds like a badass.
07:13Yeah.
07:14That dude dunked on heads and now is running front offices.
07:17Yes.
07:17Daris Dawkins could play, bro.
07:20Oh, yeah.
07:21I'm Daris Dawkins.
07:22I am figuring out as soon as possible what the hell this Anthony Davis situation is.
07:28Do you want to be here?
07:30Do you not want to be here?
07:31If you don't want to be here, you're out the door tomorrow.
07:34I can't have this linger all summer long.
07:37I can't have my potential number one pick thinking he's going to play with Anthony Davis,
07:41but Anthony Davis doesn't want to play with him.
07:43I'm hammering this situation out as soon as possible.
07:46If I have to trade you, so be it.
07:48If it's for pennies, so be it.
07:49I acquired you for pennies.
07:50I can get pennies back.
07:51Why not?
07:52Are you willing to take a loss?
07:54I'm willing to take a loss.
07:55Like in other words, the trade balance sheet, it's worse.
07:58I'm willing to take a loss for the sake of
08:01for the sake of I need the stability.
08:04I need to know my stability is going into the season.
08:07Going into me drafting the number one overall pick,
08:09presumably AJ DeBasta could be someone else.
08:12I need the stability and I need the consistency.
08:15And if that is wavering at all because of Anthony Davis
08:18not knowing if he wants to play here or not,
08:21so be it.
08:22You're gone.
08:22I'll take my loss.
08:23Let's move on.
08:24There is a section of the fan base.
08:27I don't know how big it is.
08:28Strobes might know.
08:29We'll call him in a second.
08:31That is over this.
08:33Yeah.
08:34And there's been no basketball.
08:36And they're over whatever this is.
08:38A new podcast every third week.
08:40Cryptic comments.
08:41I'm in, I'm out, I'm out, and I'm out, out.
08:42Rich Paul behind the scenes.
08:44You know, pulling strings like a puppeteer.
08:47How much of what you're saying is because of that?
08:49Because you're fed up already.
08:50I am.
08:51It's 90% of that.
08:54There's 10% of me that thinks, hey, there's a possibility
08:58he could stay here, play well, rebuild his basketball character.
09:05Right.
09:06And, you know, whether he stays here beyond that or not, it's fine.
09:09Whether I get trade assets for him because he rebuilt himself,
09:12that's fine too.
09:13Right.
09:13But the rest of me is just like, why?
09:15Enough of this.
09:16Enough of the drama.
09:18I'm trying to rebuild what this franchise is.
09:21I'm trying to make sure that people don't view this franchise
09:23as a joke anymore because we're not run by Tommy Shepard
09:25and Ernie Grunfield anymore.
09:26We're not run by a new regime.
09:28And we need people to realize that and recognize that
09:31and respect the organization for that.
09:32And Anthony Davis is not helping that with whatever this drama is.
09:36So I'm, of this group of four here, Grant is in the same boat as me.
09:41I've got kids, and I can't tell you the number of times I've said, bleep it, fine!
09:50For whatever it is.
09:51Yeah.
09:51I want this, I want that, or I don't want this, I want that.
09:53And I just throw my hands.
09:54It's not a good quality, but kids will do that to you.
09:57They have the Konami code.
09:58They have the passcode to wear you down, to steal your will, and deflate you.
10:03And I think that's where Darius is right now.
10:05Yeah, 100%.
10:06The stretch.
10:07Strokes, is your mic on?
10:08Yeah, this kind of piggybacks on what Darius has been talking about.
10:11I'm preparing for the future without Anthony Davis.
10:14Not saying that's happening now, because I think he's going to play here.
10:16I think he's going to win Washington's basketball games, recoup his value.
10:19It's going to be all good and fun, but it's not going to be a long-term thing.
10:21I think everybody here understands that's probably the plan,
10:24and that's probably the smart plan at that.
10:26So what I'm looking at is free agency options for the Wizards,
10:29because I think they do need a backup big right now,
10:31but potentially also finding a solution for somebody to play a long SAR
10:35in the meantime after Davis is not around.
10:37Whether or not they trade back into the first round to do that.
10:40I'm going to look at free agency right here,
10:41because the Wizards have $15 million they can spend in the mid-level taxpayer exemption.
10:46This summer, there's good options, I think, for backup potential bigs.
10:49Robert Williams from Portland, who's making $12 million right now.
10:52That's a guy I'm looking at.
10:53He's been in the league for seven years.
10:55Isaiah Hartenstein, maybe I'm checking in on him,
10:57because he's got a club option in OKC,
10:58but he'd probably be a little bit too expensive.
11:00I think they should look for another option to play as a backup big,
11:04because I don't know if Tristan Vukovic can give you enough defensively
11:06for what they're trying to do next year.
11:07Well, I know he can't.
11:08Yeah, I've got a pretty good feel for that, Stropes.
11:10That's a good chime in, as always.
11:12Let's go to Mike in Sterling.
11:13DC Sports are for a day.
11:14What are you doing?
11:17Hey, how are you guys doing?
11:18Good, buddy.
11:20Look, I'm taking Sonny Skiles, and I'm making him my start in safety,
11:26a la Sean Taylor.
11:28I think he'll have a bigger impact being that far away from the line.
11:33He won't get blocked as much.
11:36Interesting.
11:37Converted safety.
11:38Yeah.
11:39He'd be the biggest safety in human history.
11:42He's not like your Jeremiah Trotter-style fireplug linebacker,
11:47but he'd be one of the biggest body safeties we've seen.
11:50He's not as fluid as Sean Taylor, and not many people are for someone that size.
11:54So I don't know that he would be as effective as safety.
11:57I just disagree with the point of moving him further away from the football.
12:00I think in this defense, they're going to use him in a lot of different ways
12:03where they could have him mugged up to the line of scrimmage.
12:05They could have him off the ball.
12:07They could have him off the edge.
12:08I think using him in that way could be a little more valuable,
12:10but I do think that, to his point, he's going to be good in coverage for this team.
12:141-800-636-1067.
12:17One more set of calls on this.
12:18Matt Moore, Action Network, joins us at 3.
12:20You're made, D.C. Sports Czar, for a day?
12:23You get one move, and they can't undo it.
12:26They can't take it back.
12:27What's the move you're making to help one of the four major D.C. sports teams?
12:30Grant and Danny here on The Fan.
