The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has lodged a formal complaint with the Delhi Police's Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations Unit regarding coordinated cyberattacks on its post-result services portal.
Transcript
00:05In news just coming in, CBSC has now launched a complaint with Delhi Police regarding coordinated cyber attacks on its
00:12post-result services portal.
00:15All attacks, CBSC says, were successfully mitigated through 24-7 monitoring with no data breach or compromise of the system.
00:22But CBSC now taking the matter to Delhi Police, saying that the portal was launched on 2 June 2026 to
00:30facilitate services such as verification, re-evaluation of answer scripts for candidates who had appeared for Class 12 board examination.
00:37They are saying the portal was subjected to repeated and coordinated cyber attacks over the past three days.
00:44The attacks, CBSC says, involved large volumes of malicious traffic originating from multiple IP addresses within and outside the country.
00:53So what exactly is happening here? Let's get a word from my colleague Amit Bhardwaj.
00:58Amit, we are made to understand that the entire vulnerability in the CBSC need, even J-E Advanced portals, had
01:06been brought out by students themselves.
01:08What is the rationale behind CBSC taking this to Delhi Police? What are they alleging?
01:17Sonal, you would remember a couple of days back as well, the CBSC had said while stating that 56,000
01:24applications were filled for re-evaluation as well as verification on its website,
01:30it had also said as to how the post-result services portal was facing a lot of sophisticated attacks.
01:38And that is what they have also told the Delhi Police, this is a special unit of the Delhi Police
01:43rather, the ISSO, which is Intelligence Fusion and Strategy Cooperation Unit of Delhi Police.
01:50And the CBSC has now approached them with a formal complaint saying that sophisticated attacks have happened on its post
01:57-result services portal and as to how these were IP addresses which are not only within the country but also
02:05outside the country.
02:06They are also saying on the same note that while such attempts were made, the breach hasn't happened because of
02:14the constant monitoring and response of the cyber security teams,
02:19IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, the Digital India Corporation as well as the I4C, which is in a way India's most
02:28potent, you know, cyberspace intelligence unit.
02:34IIT Kanpur, IIT Kanpur, very quickly help me understand this, that, you know, CBSC recently had a change in leadership.
02:42We saw the top two bureaucrats transferred out.
02:45Is this how the new CBSC team is taking on matters, saying that we will not entertain any more checks
02:52by students, etc., we will take the matter to the police?
02:56Is that what we are seeing this go towards?
03:00So now we'll have to basically bifurcate this as well as to whether this complaint will also include the ethical
03:08hackers factor because we know, you and me, both of us know that as to how these were the schools
03:14as well as ethical hackers would expose problems in the system and safety concerns in the system.
03:19So the CDSC themselves will have to differentiate between what approaches were made by the ethical hackers and what are
03:26the malicious attempts that have been made on their services, post-result services portal.
03:32So that differentiation will have to be made and they would also need to ensure that when the Delhi police
03:38launches the probe into this matter, they don't end up harassing the students who had exposed the system in the
03:44first place.
03:45So your sensor is also at some place at the right place. And how does the IFSO will differentiate between
03:54malicious attacks or ethical hackers?
04:01Yeah, yeah. All right, Amit Bharatwaj, they're bringing us that nuance over there. At the moment, it looks like the
04:07new leadership in CBSC has decided to take the matter to Delhi police saying we are facing a lot of
04:13cyber attacks on the portal.
04:15Will this become a way in which CBSC files a case against all those who are making the attacks?
04:21Will this mean that all the students and the ethical hackers also get into the ring is something that we'll
04:29have to wait and watch for.
